Hidden gem of Rutherglen, and a worthy trip outside Glasgow city centre. Value for money is incredible with portion sizes far exceeding expectations and the standard of food to rival any restaurant in the city. Staff are very friendly and courteous, but if you are the type of person who wants to eat in peace without seeing or hearing your server or chef, then go to that pretentious place in town. If you want to feel like your part of the charm of this place, and be treated like a long lost relative of this family run business, then book immediately. It's small inside with room to only seat perhaps 8 tables, maybe 10 tops, at a time, but not so small that you feel like you are sitting in another tables conversation. Decor is nice, nothing of a stuffy fine dining cuisine, but much more in keeping with the family aspect. It's clean and welcoming. Their motto, which is on the menu, website, and clear to see in some of the decor, is "let our family take care of your family", boy will they. You'll walk out that door ready to tell the people most important in your life to try it, and I'd be shocked if you didn't add this place to your list of must dine places. We've been back, and we'll be going back again. It was very clear that others do the same, as once you find this place, you're coming back. We can personally recommend the Lasagne, Cajun Chicken, Beef Shortrib and the Penne Amatriaciana. But everything else looked to the same high quality (and huge portion size!)

Always nice to discover a new place by chance. My friend and i were heading for breakfast at Wetherspoons Main St. Rutherglen but they were closed due to a water stoppage. At a bit of a loose end for options, a stranger recommended Niu Cafe in a side St off Main St. All the time i have lived in nearby Kings park and i never new this quaint little place existed. Seemingly, operating since 1999 this small cafe is run by a lovely chinese family. They have an extensive menu catering for all tastes and a special deal childrens 3 course meal. Breakfast is a complete joy, far better quality than Wetherspoons at a similar price. Every breakfast item you could wish for with tea, or coffee and toast included. Portions are huge. A very good deal indeed. Niu is situated on Greenbank St. A very short distance from Main St Rutherglen.A return visit is on the cards

A very nice dining experience on a quiet Saturday night. Food was of a good quality I particularly liked the sausage pizza due to the fact that it was cooked in a pizza oven. Friendly and efficient staff, but the atmosphere was dampened due to the lack of customers ( we ate at 8, but it was early February). Music was contemporary which we liked.

Extremely disappointed with service this evening. I was not treated when I approached the till to be made aware someone would be with me soon .To my great disappointment I was served my sitting in order in a take away cup.Wasn’t asked if sitting in or take away. There were at least 20 used take away cups stacked on the counter, so I’m guessing I was not the only one to be served a take away when sitting in. I could understand if understaffed or extremely busy and they needed to save time on washing up however it was really quiet. The service staff standing around behind the counter chatting and using profanities. I’m not one to be offended by this however I feel that this showed to me that the staff did not care one jot about my customer experience. I don’t come to Starbucks to sit in and drink out a paper cup . Certainly not at that price 😤

Went into the restaurant with my husband on 15/01/25 for late lunch. We had heard that there was a new chef in the kitchen from Chris the Leaseholder. The food and price were spot on. I had the cauliflower wings with sweet chilli sauce and they were so fresh and tasty. My husband had the jalapeño croquettes which he said had a little kick but they also made fresh to order. The chicken curry looked good but I thought a little short on chicken but when my husband stirred it there was plenty of chicken in there, served with boiled rice and prawn crackers. I had the freshly made smash burger with fries and gherkin on top. Everything tasted top notch and fresh. Would recommend this establishment for food anytime.
