The BISTRO in South Lanarkshire

Visited here on both our trips to Scotland and wasn't disappointed. Will definitely be back again next time we come and visit. Hopefully we will be able to get a taxi back next time.

Visited for the first time to celebrate my mums 60th and definitely won’t be the last. Food was amazing (husband said best steak he has had in ages - cooked perfectly) staff were brilliant 10/10 and can’t wait to come back again!

First of all my husband and I have not been here for a lot of years but I was curious about the place and booked here for our 34th wedding anniversary today. Have to say that the tables outside are not exactly inviting... buckets etc and black bags on what was once the outside terrace don't look too good but I was ready to give the inside restaurant and food a really good review and I can certainly do just that.. The place is small and compact but cosy and spotless. The server behind the counter/bar knew instantly who we were and called us by name, good start... Shown to our table and surrounded by photographs of the family who own and have owned this restaurant in past/present configurations. The menu was the Sunday roast menu ( served until 5pm). I'm sorry but I didn't get the names of the 2 female servers and our drink order was quickly taken, 1 pint of draught Menebraea (only draught beer) and x1 large pinot grigio while we looked over menu. We were given plenty of time to choose and both went for the braised short rib of beef in a rich gravy and duck fat roast potatoes, they were plentiful and also a large dish of turnip, carrots, parsnips and green beans. I love my veg so was most pleased and managed to demolish that... The Beef was served medium rare which is perfect for me and my husband really enjoyed it too. The server discovered that this was a special occasion and offered us both a complimentary drink too. At this stage we had said that we were stuffed but had a look at the dessert menu and my husband had the Galaxy caramel sundae which he totally loved... I chose the warm chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, divine... We certainly will be back for special occasion dinners. The price was £62 for 2 mains, desserts and drinks. There are other menu's which I will be back to try. Priced well, great service and really tasty food and well portioned...

In my 37 years I've been to many great restaurants, cafes and so on. I've eaten many a good meal in these places and of course some rotten. I went here tonight with my gran n papa to celebrate my partners birthday. First of all again I'm so sorry for knocking that bloody glass over, stupid jacket of mine 🤦. Anyways so we got a friendly welcome and even happily switched our table so we had a little more space. It's not the biggest of places but it's warm and cosy with a nice atmosphere. I got the farmhouse pate to start which was absolutely delicious, like I mean delicious. I was gutted when I ate it all. Such great flavours and it was nicely presented. Then I had the steak pie and in the name of holy what a plate it was, as you'll see in the picture. There was more steak on this one plate than you'd get in 20 large Bells pies out of Asda 😂 it tasted amazing as well. The steak melted away like a chocolate Wellie next to a fire place and the gravy was so good it was difficult not to gulp it down off the plate 😂 but I thankfully remembered I was not at home and this was not normal in public 😂. The potatoes and veg were nicely done as well, very tasty. The staff were great from start to finish, very friendly and attentive. They even brought out a cake for my partner and played the happy birthday tune. My partner lit up like Rudolph's nose 😂. So all in what a wee gem this place is and if you haven't been then move your backside and get a table booked. You won't be disappointed. Oh and lastly compliments all day to the chef 👌you'd give Ramsey a run for his money with that high standards of cooking 👏👏

Came here tonight for an early birthday dinner with my partner, his gran & papa. The food was outstanding, 10/10 on both dishes. I got the bistro bites (highly recommend) and spaghetti with meatballs. The portion size of the main was huge, really worth the money, loads of meatballs. Staff were so friendly, even surprised me with a cake and sang happy birthday to me which was so lovely though a little embarrassing for me😂 can’t wait to come back and try more!!

out for family lunch at the bistro. amazing as always. I had the haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce was expected a couple of wee haggis ball like I've had before in other restaurants but no got 2 big bon bons just managed to eat them. had the bistro club sandwich it was huge and delicious. also got my dessert to go as I was stuffed. The family run bistro is amazing always take time to talk with the diners. will definitely be back.

Food is beautiful, came for the Sunday roast and prob 1 of the best ones I've tasted! My son loved his spaghetti bolognese too. Staff lovely and friendly

First bad experience I've had here,microwave rice and overall food not up to there usual standards🙁

Visited the Bistro today to try the Sunday roast menu. My husband and I can be fussy about our food but the Bistro did not disappoint! Husband started with the haggis bon-bons, said they were delicious and the sauce with them was excellent. I had the minestrone soup. Lovely chunky vegetables and very tasty. I had the roast chicken, absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth. My husband had the roast beef and was delighted with it. The roast comes with sides of carrots, green beans, roast potatoes, turnip and parsnip. We also ordered sides of macaroni cheese and cauliflower cheese… this proved far too much for us but tasted amazing! We are excited to return and would give much higher than 5 stars if we could! Thank you ❤️

Came for sunday lunch which was amazing. Been before and always delightful. Massive portions which were delicious and fantastic service . 5 out of 5!

Just back from a Sunday Lunch at the Bistro and it was brilliant as expected. We've been to this restaurant on several occasions and never been disappointed, but wanted to try the new Sunday Lunch menu and was blown away. The chicken was to die for and all accompaniments were perfectly cooked. We didn't need to, however indulged in additional sides of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese, and both were perfect. Only gave it 5 stars because there is no option for 6! Service great as usual too

Been going 2 The Bistro 4 years food & it’s always fab but went yesterday way friends, had the Sunday roast which was awesome. Would recommend The Bistro 2 anyone looking 4 a guid restaurant which sells guid food.

Booked The Bistro for Sunday Lunch and didn’t know we would actually be their first customers for this as previously they only opened in the evenings. Have to say we were not disappointed beautiful food quickly prepared and presented perfectly. Could have feed a family of 6 let alone 3. Many thanks to The Bistro

Great selection on menu. We were a party of four and all of us loved the dishes we selected. Food generous and fresh with great preparation. Definitely recommend.

Very nice and creamy carbonara followed up by a rich, warm chocolate fudge cake served with ice cream and strawberries, lovely!

Food was absolutely beautiful, quick service and a great cocktail! A lovely place that I would definitely recommend trying!

Brilliant food in a family run restaurant. First class service. Home made soup, mains and desserts. Good wine selection. Really worth a visit. Shame I don’t live here or I would he a regular!!

We came as a family of 13 for a wedding anniversary. The restaurant had been done up beautiful with the decorations provided. Cakes where set out on a separate table and presented so well. The food was amazing and all served together and warm! Not easy serving 13 meals at once! The staff made the visit extra special offering to take family photos, playing music and ensuring the champagne and drinks flowed. Even better they were not phased by our 11 month old being loud and throwing his food - they entertained him too. The chef even came and spoke to us all. Amazing family restaurant and would highly recommend.

The food in this wee place is absolutely amazing...I can't recommend it highly enough...portions are brilliant too... always guaranteed a good feed at a good price...will DEFINITELY return

We dined in the bistro on a Sunday. The food was amazing. The presentation was so modern and the portions were great .The staff were lovely efficient. The restaurant spotless . I recommend a visit I defo will be going back . Also the strawberry cheesecake with white chocolate was sensational 😋 👌

First visit to The Bistro definitely will be back ! Staff made us very welcome quick service and food was amazing and lots of it !! All for a very reasonable price !This small friendly restaurant is an asset to Rutherglen.

Restaurant lovely, food good, waitresses were both nice and both friendly. I just could not understand why we were seated right next to another couple (who were in before we arrived) as there were plenty of empty tables all over the restaurant! We could clearly hear their conversation and they could hear ours, too - so why not just spread customers out a bit?, at the very beginning of the evening, as we were in just after 5pm. I understand that you want to fit in as many clients as possible, but at the beginning of the evening, it would be better to space people around the place so that they can fully enjoy their evening in a much more relaxed conversation friendly atmosphere. I would go back for the food experience again but l would be requesting a table not right next to other customers at the very beginning of the evening. Also l caught the heel of my brand new shoes on your door mat, and it pulled the leather tipped heal right off of my shoe! 😢

Was Celebrating a good friend's 75th birthday at the bistro. The staff were great very attentive and the food was amazing, will definitely be back with my family.

We visited this gorgeous restaurant last night for a family meal. It was cosy, and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The service by the staff was superb, friendly and very attentive and a quick food service. The presentation of the food was amazing and was super tasty. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning again!

Went for lunch for my daughter's birthday and it was delicious, which to be fair every dish is delicious here

Food was lovely, young girl serving really nice n friendly but the place needs to get some kind of heating put in, it was freezing.

Was totally disgusted with the Christmas Dinner, £75 a head and we got a small bowl with 10 roast potatoes a small bowl of veg that was between 6 adults. Will not be back and will definitely not be recommending it to anyone, for the price we paid it was a total disgrace.

Went for the Christmas party night last night!! The food was outstanding, service excellent and such a great Christmas atmosphere!! Will definitely be back x

We had my husbands 30th suprise meal for 25 people last night. Everything from start to finish was amazing, the service was fantastic. The staff did everything to accommodate us and went above and beyond. Everyone commented on how lovely the food was. Would highly recommend and can't thank the bistro enough for such a lovely night.

Really cannot say anything negative about the Bistro. The food portions are more than what the prices reflect, the staff are so nice and friendly. Always enjoy a meal in the Bisto fabulous family run restaurant. Keep up the great work.

Went for something to eat with my pal and I had wings with honey mustard and then pizza with chicken and red onion and mushrooms both food where amazing and tased lovely my pal had the scotch buger and haggis Bon Bon’s and we enjoyed both and had a good catch up;)) the staff are so friendly.

Me & hubby ordered classic chicken fajitas & Cajun chicken from main menu. Finished it off with homemade raspberry cheesecake. Food was delicious and staff were attentive.

Visited last Saturday with my son and daughter in law and our wee grandaughter. Food was first class and the staff were all just lovely. So friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend you wont be disappointed.

Probably an oversight on my part but I thought main traditional meals where meant to have veg , I had steak pie (wich tasted excellent) and some roast tatties , my sister had the rib from same part of menu but she had roast tatties and veg (carrot green beans and tumshie) , I had none this detracted from my meal ad it felt incomplete (my sister offered me some of her veg after she smothered it in Salt I don't take salt) Terrys chocolate orange Cheesecake was also nice wich i took away

Food and service was amazing! Pate was homemade which we had for starters along with garlic mushrooms, both were amazing! They waitress (Dion) was very good with my Son also who is Gluten free! We were visiting the area so would recommend to anyone visiting or that hasn’t tried before!

Had my big 60th birthday here last night, service was great, massive portions I really like my food and I couldn't finish them, food was first class I promise you that you would not be disappointed all I can say try it and I can assure you that you will go back. Last word to the staff thank you for making us feel welcome 🤗

Enjoyed lunch here today. The restaurant is lovely and has a real cosy feel about it. The food was absolutely delicious, I had the smoked haddock fish cakes, beautifully presented and freshly cooked. I then had the chicken in a mushroom and brandy cream sauce with rice, again delicious. I thoroughly recommend this family run restaurant. I’ll be back soon

This was our first visit to this lovely,family run Bistro. We took our elderly aunt who used to go there every wednesday but with walking difficulties, hasnt been in a long time. They were brilliant with her. Made a big fuss of her and all came and spoke to her. They have a very good sized menu with decent prices. The food was lovely,big portions and well presented. I particularly liked that they have the option of small portions as well as seniors meals. The owner came and spoke to us and didnt charge her for her meal or drink. What a lovely touch. My husband and I will definitely go back for a lunch ourselves. Thankyou to you all for making her feel so welcome and making her day.

Visited tonight wasn't impressed, bon bons tough as if reheated, lamb lovely though swimming in gravy, hubby's meal enjoyable, over all not an enjoyable meal, definitely not worth the money😒

Booked a table for eight and everything went super smooth over the evening. Great selection on the menu I had the Lamb Shanks which was super soft and tender. Came with mash potatoes and gravy and the presentation was good. Generous portion sizes. My partner had the beef short ribs which she would also recommend !

Lovely family run restaurant. Food and service was fantastic. Every dish was bursting with flavour. Can't wait to go back.

I used to go here years ago and it was always fantastic.I’ve moved back to the area and I’m so glad to say the food is still as good. It’s such a lovely wee place the staff are amazing and so helpful It is so worth a visit.

Arrived at 12.45, managed to get parked close by (we were lucky) and got a table although we hadn't booked. Would recommend booking if you go for dinner. The food is delicious, portions are very generous and staff are lovely. First time eating here - it won't be the last. The food at every table looked great. Would definitely recommend this lovely wee eaterie.

Just bought a flat close by, so came here for lunch with the partner. The woman who served us was very friendly and the decor inside was lovely. The food was excellent, massive portions, fantastic presentation and tasted brilliant.

Went to the Bistro on Thursday and had a lovely meal. Very large portions and had to take a "doggy bag" home with me. Couldn't manage a dessert. Big menu to chose from. Will definitely be back.
