Service was very slow. We were in for 1.1/2 hours just for soup and pudding and coffee

My visit was on a cold snow covered day. We had an early booking, maybe that was the reason for the young waitress not knowing and providing us with confusing info of the menu. Once that was sorted everything went well and a very satisfying meal was had by my family.

Ordered a £3.00 portion of chips to go along with our home cooked supper, paid an extra 50p through the app, bairn collected and paid by card at the shop. Was the soggiest chippy chips weve ever had, almost raw. We couldnt eat them. Wasnt going to say anything but i received an email to review and instead of a negative review i got the option to email you directly. Tried that option but your email address doesnt accept incoming emails so the email bounced back. So negative review it is

Loved our meal at this restaurant. Served quickly and great choices of dishes. Would absolutely recommend a visit here when visiting Ballater.

Came here for lunch and it was lovely. I had the mozzarella and roasted veg ciabatta and it was delicious, my mum had the lentil soup with a cheese scone and she said it was nice. The coffee was also really good quality.

I’ve been here many times over the years and loved it. Now twice in the last year I have been so disappointed. Gave it one last try, but now I won’t be back. The fish was good (not great last time). Fresh and crispy batter. Why I won’t be back? Something is wrong with the chips. I can’t put my finger on it. They are maybe dry and almost burnt taste. Dunno if it’s the oil needs to be changed or using frozen chips instead of making them. They were the same on my last visit but thought it might be a one off bad batch. This was supposed to be a treat while travelling but feel so disappointed. Read other reviews with the same comments around the chips but also people saying they love the chips - so I dunno if this is just every now and then they are bad.

So packed in now and chairs cannot be pushed back to get in. Sharp practice of serving large coffees at obviously higher prices when only a coffee had been ordered. Yes, there are two sizes but the server should ask!

Great wee place, food was brilliant and waiting staff were very good with my little daughter. Good environment. Will defiantly be returning.

THE BEST FOOD in Turriff they deserve 5 stars

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at the Tor-Na-Coille. It is an amazing place in a fantastic setting. The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful and friendly . The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was amazing. We Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and we will be back .
