Echt Tandoori in Aberdeenshire

Great place, good food and service, reasonable prices

Slow service piece wire in my chicken waiter wasn't concerned about it. Couldn't get us out the door quick enough.

My wife and I had passed this restaurant a few times so it was on our bucket list. We visited yesterday evening at 5pm although booked for 5:30. I started with a delicious chicken chat puri. Lovely well cooked chicken in spicy chick pea sauce inside 2 well cooked puri bread rolled around the chicken served on drizzled tamarind sauce with lettuce, tomato and cool sauce dip. Almost a meal in itself. I followed that with a sizzling lamb dish with a medium spiced sauce containing fresh sliced green peppers and chillies. My wife ordered the chicken tikka Roshuni which came with a semi dry medium spiced sauce which she said was excellent. The pilau rice and garlic naan could not be faulted. Food and service were both excellent. After our meal we were supplied with warm towels and orange segments. Restaurant was busy by 5:45. We will definitely be back even though it's about 50 miles from Buckie.

Absolutely love the food here. Although it is a distance to travel for a meal, it is definitely worth it. I have never been disappointed. Food is delicious, reasonably priced and staff are pleasant.

Just got home from Echt Tandoori and as always it was worth the trip out from Aberdeen! Food is always tremendous, the service and attention to detail is stunning and I've already got my next meal there planned. Staff bend over backwards to be helpful. A firm favourite!

Had another tremendous meal here tonight as always. The restaurant has been here for 15 years and is consistently excellent. What sets this on another level to a lot of restaurants is the service and attention to detail that they give their customers. Already planning my next visit!

I cant comment on the food, but would like to say a huge thank you to the lovely staff member's who helped me last night when my car broke down. Ok was just water and the wifi code but it helped me and I would just like to say thank you so much..x

Fantastic food, we didn't have a reservation but were able to accommodate 6 of us, but probably best to book as it soon filled up. Very generous portions. Lovely meal.

Disappointing takeaway, 6 meals and all had more sauce than meat and meals all looked the same. Numerous calls to complain met with promises that manager to phone back but never did. Won’t be back☹️

I have been here several times and the quality of food never disappoints. It is quite a bit for us to travel for a meal, but it is worth it, the food is fantastic. I always have lamb samosas to start and slowly working my way through the menu. If I stayed closer, I would probably have finished by now. Lovely atmosphere and staff are friendly.

Ordered a takeaway to celebrate a family birthday. The food was ready on time and we all agreed the food was excellent. We had various main courses all were of a high standard and good value. Would thoroughly recommend. The complimentary bottle of wine was such a lovely gesture. Thank you Echt Tandoori for making our night a special one.

Our first visit here and not impressed. The older waiter was very rude and never smiled once. I liked the decor and the food was average.

Very disappointing. Confusion over our table when we arrived and then Took almost an hour from ordering our food to getting it. The breads were good but other dishes just so so. The butter chicken was way too sweet. Would not return.

Hello family friends travellers and followers of my reviews Barry here again sharing with you an excellent place I have been to eat out at and this one the Echt tandoori isn't just excellent it's absolutely wonderful the best I've ever been to in all my travelling days let's pop inside! Set in the wee idyllic village of Echt lies the tandoori a lovely old building with lots of parking and access for disabled folks, upon entering your eyes will be dazzled with the beautifully set tables crisp decor and the sheer spotlessness of the place there's lots of room and it looks wonderful! Next you will be shown to your table by one of the staff owned by Jony Sharif a truly great guy his staff are so so friendly and warm our table was set and were given our menus let's eat! To say the menu is fantastic is an understatement there's so much choice things old and new all cooked in a Bangladeshi Indian fusion style there is something for everyone vegetarians and vegans included we perused the great menu and my guest and I opted for the king prawn puri as our starter I chose tandoori king prawns with a Balti and a masala sauce with chapattis my guest going for the chilli and garlic king prawns with pilau rice we were hungry and waited for our food to arrive the starters came and wow beautiful is the word I'll use the thinest Puri melt in the mouth filled with the juiciest king prawns I've ever tasted nb at the Echt they used Bengal prawns which are the most flavoursome and cost more most tandooris use the cheaper ones not here! And the price so reasonable 17.99 which is a bargain the prawns were in a lovely creamy spicy sauce that just oozed with flavour and it looked so nice on the plate it comes with a ramikin of lovely garlic yoghurt sauce delicious we were very pleased onto the mains and readers wow wow wow my king prawns came sizzling to our table beautiful big juicy ones perfectly cooked with onions and peppers aside the sauces off the scale a gorgeous Balti sauce with fresh veg bit of sauce and a lovely masala sauce touch of spice and so very smooth just phenomenal cooking as I said best I have tasted! Bar none and I mean UK wide my friends garlic chilli prawn dish was also to die for big garlic and chilli flavours with the most sumptuous sauce five star the chappatis the rice all to the highest standard tasty to the last bite we ate everything that was served and sat back and chatted about our meal. These are just words I urge you folks to head here and try for yourself but this is seriously excellent cooking flavours that tickle your taste buds staff that make you smile ambience that make it perfect if your in the area don't go to any of the other tandooris on offer no offence but if you want a true Bangladeshi Indian taste experience this is the place to be food of the very highest quality and standard were going next week again thankyou Jony and all the team for a memorable night ☮️ and love Barry thanks for reading travellers enjoy!

This restaurant is a gem in the countryside, the staff always aim to please and at the same time are not pushy and in your face!

Food was good but aside from the waitress, the other two waiters' behaviour was strange and rude. They were condescending and rushing us.

Food was good. They have such a good reputation that maybe my expectations were higher. Quite a long wait between starter and main course - our table was booked for 6pm and received main course at 7:20pm. The restaurant can be quite noisy due to the space. Staff were attentive enough but you didn't have one server so you were often asked by several different members of staff for drinks/if everything was okay which interrupted the meal quite a lot. When we left, we put £20 as a tip (more than 10%) as none of us had anything smaller. One of the waiters was very quick to pick this up from the table with another then coming over to tell us they needed the table as he tapped his watch. I understand they are busy but we weren't given a time limit in which to leave the table and given that we had not long had our main meals delivered felt a bit rushed. My mum still had half a glass of wine. Had we decided to take dessert what would have happened then? A very disappointing end to the evening that I have shared with friends and family. I think they are relying a bit too much on their reputation and forgetting customer service. I felt very rushed to get our coats on and leave.

The food was excellent. The table was required back by 8pm and we were being rushed and reminded at 7.30, ruined the experience. We had finished eating but we still had drinks and were rushed out.

Been coming here for 14 years. Had a takeaway for 2 people last night. £40 and both meals really tasteless. Very disappointed!

Excellent service as always. Lunch to celebrate my father's 70th birthday. No advance notice to the restaurant but they presented us with a cake and sparkler after our mains. Great example of going the extra mile for their customers. Thank you all at Echt Tandoori!

I’ve been to a fair few Indians in my life. To me Echt Tandoori is the best in Aberdeen and shire certainly! Perhaps even Scotland. The team here perform to a consistent high standard of presentation and quality of food. I have celebrated birthdays, Christmas and even given a meal here as a wedding gift. I could not recommend the Echt Tandoori more.

Fantastic takeaway - ordered for a big group of friends and family - everything was delicious and a nice touch was clear descriptive labels on the containers - which took away the guessing- full marks for timing, service and the food - enjoyed by everyone. Not the cheapest but the best Indian Cuisine I have had. Decor, staff, cleanliness and most of all the food all get 5* The only thing I would add is the place is rightly popular and I would definitely book 3rd visit Even better. Consistent quality and great service.

A hidden gem , worth the drive ! Food was beautifully presented and delicious, service was fast , attentive and friendly. Surprisingly busy for a midweek visit the decor and atmosphere were great ! Will definitely visit again when we are next in town

My partner and I booked a table for two last night as our first eat out meal since moving to the area. We were initially very impressed with the food and with the service. However, the meal was totally ruined by one member of staff with a poor attitude who spent the evening repeatedly shouting at other staff members. Not only was this disruptive and ruined the, thus far, enjoyable atmosphere, this behaviour is also incredibly unprofessional and should not be tolerated in any work place, let alone in front of customers. From the direction he was giving the service team, this particular member of staff was evidently management and should certainly know better than this. We will think twice before returning, despite the enjoyable food - very disappointing.

Fantastic food and lovely staff. Huge portions which we couldn't finish - staff boxed the rest up to take home - far too good to waste. Highly recommended.

Great meal, good atmosphere and service

We went out with friends for a curry here. There is plenty parking outside the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing appropriate meals. The food was delicious, hot (but not overly spicy) and plentiful. We had a lovely evening and would recommend a visit.

This was a takeaway order. Food was ready on time for collection. The curries we had were really good and were certainly worth travelling a little further for. Would happily go to Echt Tandoori again.

Echt Tandoori never fails to produce a great meal, whether eat in or takeaway. They are my go to Indian, and this evening I had a Spinach Bahjee and Lamb Khazana. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic. Full of flavour and spiced to just the right heat.

We love Echt Tandoori and are regular users but takeaway last night of a Rogan Josh and Jalfrehzi looked and tasted the same, also poppadom oil made the food smell and taste badly. Disappointed and hope normal quality will resume next time around.

Excelente comida en el Echt nuevamente. No decepciona en absoluto, con un servicio de primer nivel. ¡Extrañé mucho a los chicos durante el encierro y el curry! Tuvimos algunas comidas para llevar y fue bueno estar de regreso en el restaurante disfrutando del excelente servicio del equipo.
