I booked with slight trepidation after reading some mixed reviews. Staying at Fionnphort or 2 nights with my wife to visit Iona & Staffa and as the trip coincided with my wife's birthday I booked the Ninth Wave as a treat. We both eat out regularly in Scotland and abroad and have been lucky enough to visit some Michelin starred places over the years. The service at Ninth Wave was slightly quirky but very pleasant and the dining room small but very relaxed. The quality of food served was beyond expectations and on a par with some Michelin starred establishments. The format is akin to a tasting menu with 3 or 4 smaller plates (#4 is dessert), cheese as an optional extra and coffee / petit fours included. We shared a decent bottle of white from an interesting list. I had scallops and wood pigeon while my wife had the mackerel and crab stuffed courgette blossom. We both chose the half lobster "main" course. the Pigeon was slightly tough but otherwise the food was faultless. The lobster was exceptional and so refreshing to see it on a menu without the usual pricing supplement. Fabulous evening - thank you Carla and John. We will visit again one day.

Booked as a special birthday meal on the basis of previous recommendations on this and other sites. Sadly disappointed. The chef responsible for setting the place up is now working abroad and his stand-in, while competent, doesn’t live up to the billing or the prices. Small menu, with 4 starters and 4 mains. Scallops (3 for £13) were excellent but lost in a small dish on a large otherwise empty plate. My crispy chicken was not noticeably different from a Chinese take away version, again served in an enamel dish for £12 - very poor value. Salmon fillet was faultless but my lamb rump was just barely on the edible side of pink, no jus or gravy and a saucer if mint sauce was brought without comment from the owner who clearly had better things to do behind the counter than worry about customer satisfaction. The affogato desert was one scoop of average vanilla ice cream in a large coffee cup with a shot of espresso unceremoniously tipped over it by the still unsmiling hostess. Yes I could have sent the lamb back, but then the awkward wait and out of synch meal spoils your evening. It was edible, just. And at £33 a portion I wish I’d chosen something else. A bottle of average Montepulciano and 2 glasses of decent Prosecco set us back £140 so when we return to Mull this definitely won’t be on our itinerary. Less a Galleon than an overpriced CalMac ferry, I’m sorry to say.

Ate here whilst staying for 3 nights in Tobermory, and it was the best meal we ate. Filling, tasty, well cooked and presented. Recommended.

We booked lunch for a large group in October, and Helen was fantastic at liaising with us about our menu choices. The food was delicious - fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the spacious dining area and the views, and really appreciated the warm welcome of Helen and her staff. I definitely recommend eating here if you're on Mull!

We were staying locally snd wanted to get a bit closer to some of the famous highland cows. We were taken on a walk though the farm firlds by the owner Jane to meet the different groups of cows including some really young ones. Jane was fascinating providing insight into the running of the farm and Highland Fold business, the farm ecosystem and the North Atlantic rainforest plus of course the star attraction highland cows themselves! We had a fabulous afternoon and would highly recommend the experience plus the barn cafe where we had coffee, delicious cake and ice cream!

Great crab sandwiches and smoked salmon sandwiches. Lobster salad is also very good value for money and very tasty. Highly recommended

We ordered 2 takeaway pizzas while staying on Iona and they were soooo good!! I actually can't write this without wanting another one (shame I'm back home). I would definitely recommend Ailidh's if you're staying on Iona and don't want to cook - why would you, with this on your doorstep?! I was going to take a photo of the pizza but I was too preoccupied eating it 🤣

Since coming to mull and subsequently moving here, the whole team of ladies have gone above and beyond to welcome us in! They all take time to have fun with my daughter, chat and have a laugh. A real caring team with the best coffee and bacon roll combo 😋

Popped in here for some bottles of water and ended-up getting a treat for the dogs and a can of local soft drink too (Paisley Drinks Co.). The shop / cafe seemed pleasant enough and the staff were welcoming but I couldn't comment on anything past that as I was simply a passing customer and didn't stay / sit-in for food. I had a quick browse at the fridges and noted the meats and fresh foods to be local (smoked salmon, milk etc) which would be a dream to a local, and someone who liked fish. I do have to comment that two of the three items I bought were actually from over 300 miles away (water from Wales, dog treat from Reddish, England). A nice wee shop that I will visit again but I will be checking what I buy next time. *I've rated food 3 stars purely because I didn't have any so it must be a neutral rating.
