The best restaurants in Fishergate York Yorkshire and The Humber

We have been dining at The Gourmet Bar for so long, we never thought to leave a review before. But we really should, especially after today’s gorgeous christmas treat. Myself, OH and our dog eat here mostly on weekends. For those who have never sampled the delights of the fabulous chef here ( Dal…such a lovely person and his food is out of this world! ) then you are missing a treat. The Sunday lunches are superb. Today, we had a partial Christmas menu of the chicken and mushroom Wellington ( wow!), with the trimmings, plus a dessert of the trio of chocolate and the cheese board. The Wellington was simply delicious! The veg was cooked to perfection, the gravy…well, whatever the secret is, we need to know!…..the potatoes were perfect…but the melt in your mouth chocolate mousse, it was heaven 🤩 People really don’t seem to know how amazing the food is at The Gourmet Bar ( which is in the Novotel, Fishergate York) - I’m not certain people even know of the Sunday lunch menu. But it’s absolutely worth a trip. On normal Sundays, the Yorkshire puddings are better than anywhere else in the area, which is why we, as local residents, come back week on week. But the Christmas menu, which is on throughout December, is also fantastic. There is a huge selection of drinks…it’s dog friendly in the bar area, it’s stylish, clean, very laid back, and if you are lucky enough to have Dal there cooking for you, plus the wonderful waiting staff ( Salvi & Karl are always friendly and welcoming), then you can guarantee a lovely meal and perfect atmosphere. 🙌🏽

Wow! Sunnys proporcionó platos para mi desayuno de boda y fueron fantásticos! Se veía increíble y la calidad de todos los artículos eran realmente excelente! Todos mis invitados disfrutaron y estaban muy llenos después de que incluso los mayores comedores tenían mucho para comer. John fue tan servicial en responder a cualquiera de mis implacables preguntas que fue puntual y creó exactamente lo que pedí! Realmente estábamos muy agradecidos!

Excelente restaurante / cafetería, gran personal, y la comida es increíble. Real atención a los sabores y detalles, no te pierdas que es una visita obligada! El aguacate con huevos escalfados y croque monsieur fue el mejor que hemos probado. Mantenga el buen trabajo

Amway stir-fried yellow beef, Wenzhou stir-fried vermicelli! I personally also love the fried beef rice and must order it every time! I have been eating it for two years. My roommates from Xinjiang have certified it as authentic chicken, and people from Inner Mongolia have certified it as hand-made lamb! It’s so necessary to eat at an authentic stir-fry restaurant when you’re tired of queuing up when you come to York. You don’t have to worry about the spiciness not being enough. The boss is a Sichuanese cook. One word is authentic, two words are...

So this restaurant doesn't supposably open on a Tuesday, I was asked by friends to book it on a Tuesday before a show at the Barbican we were seeing, I tried by phoning them to be told, they didn't open on a Tuesday, yet when we past it going to see the show, it was open and I looked like a Pratt in front of my friends, get your act together!!!

The food didn't come. Please refund my money.

Wow...... amazing.....polite and friendly employees, the atmosphere is very homely and interesting design......the coffee is incredibly tasty....I recommend it

Discovered this gem of a pub while staying close by. Lovely staff who showed genuine interest in our travels as did the locals. Also must be the cheapest beer I have come across while travelling in the UK. Do yourself a favour and drop in for a couple. Only downside no meals available.

Great small cafe. Very friendly and excellent food. However, we also got her to make 30 cupcakes for a party, with 6 eing vegan friendly. What an excellent job she did.

Really rather good Chinese restaurant with real chinese (separate menu) as well as American Chinese options we both had chicken and sweetcorn and hot and sour soup to start and shared wonderful salt and pepper chicken i then had the fillet steak peking style which was very good although not fillet steak my daughter had crispy beef we shared a large portion of fried rice which was very moist which spoiled it somewhat but all in all a pleasant experience

Great corner cosy place for a reasonably priced hot beverage ☕️ and great yummy sandwiches 🥪 which can even been made gluten free for same price 😋

Service was good and prices were reasonable. However, food was average, and we found that different dishes had little difference, probably down to under spicing. I am a chef myself and cook british Indian currys regularly.

I’m not a cyclist. Here for the food! Brilliant food and lovely place! Definitely recommend the full brekky!
