This little gem was booked almost blindly. We needed accommodation close to the nearby Swinton Hall Estate for family wedding. We had no idea what it was going to be like, nor how expensive the food was likely to be. Well, what a find! We arrived to be greeted by the very friendly landlord, Chris, and his wife. The accommodation is comfortable and clean with all the usual expected bits readily to hand. Downstairs in the bar you're treated to a friendly atmosphere, warm and cosy with a wide choice of very reasonably priced meals available to eat in the deceptively spacious dining room. The food arrived and it was fantastic! Big, hot plates, literally loaded with huge portions of good homemade food. I had steak and ale pie, chips and peas which, like everything else on the menu, was priced at £5! (Back home in Oxfordshire I'd have expected go pay upwards of £12 for the same meal). The following morning we all enjoyed a big cooked breakfast with loads of toast, tea and coffee. The landlord couldn't have been more helpful. My sister is gluten intolerant and Chris made sure she was catered for both at the evening meal and at breakfast.Absolutely fantastic! We'll definitely be back when we're next up that way.

It was everything I had hoped for. Beautiful, top quality food in a relaxed but resolutely professional setting. The chefs, Aled and Richard, are incredibly skilled and chatted easily to the table of ten while plating our 14 'snacks' - I was pretty full by round 10 but managed to squeeze in the fabulous final four sweet dishes. The team set an ideal pace, moving us along through the varied menu without feeling rushed. Paul, the sommelier, was a wonderful host. Greeting us with champagne on arrival and curating a varied and interesting selection of wine pairings with charming introductions for each one. He also doubled up as an excellent cocktail maker as the evening progressed. Book it now you won't regret it!

Called for drinks only and enjoyed ourselves immensley. A few locals were in chatting and made us welcome. The real ale was spot on. We had a great chat with the locals and enjoyed their fantastic humour. Wished we could have stayed longer. Will be going back again.

Looking forward to my husbands birthday lunch yesterday, we chose from the a la carte menus, we weren’t given the choice of the Xmas set menu, wonder why! would have nice to have been offered it. I chose prawn and crayfish cocktail with Bloody Mary shot, beware.. prawns were brown shrimps not juicy large prawns, no crayfish and no Bloody Mary shot price £16. To be fair main course of wrapped monkfish was excellent. I ordered 1 cheese board, what arrived was unbelievable, 2 small slices of Wensleydale cheese, 4 thin biscuits and 2 pieces of fruit cake. On arriving home and looking at all the menus, it appears we were given the set menu cheese plate, no explanation why, certainly not a cheese selection, but still charged the a la carte price. Considering we only had 1 small glass of wine and 2 beers, 2 ( 1 dubious)starters, 2 mains and 1 cheese, it was certainly overpriced at just under £160. Had we been given the correct order from the menu I may have felt more satisfied and would not be writing this review. Will certainly not be returning, overpriced and underwhelmed, not a patch on the Wensleydale Heiffer for less money.
