This little gem was booked almost blindly. We needed accommodation close to the nearby Swinton Hall Estate for family wedding. We had no idea what it was going to be like, nor how expensive the food was likely to be. Well, what a find! We arrived to be greeted by the very friendly landlord, Chris, and his wife. The accommodation is comfortable and clean with all the usual expected bits readily to hand. Downstairs in the bar you're treated to a friendly atmosphere, warm and cosy with a wide choice of very reasonably priced meals available to eat in the deceptively spacious dining room. The food arrived and it was fantastic! Big, hot plates, literally loaded with huge portions of good homemade food. I had steak and ale pie, chips and peas which, like everything else on the menu, was priced at £5! (Back home in Oxfordshire I'd have expected go pay upwards of £12 for the same meal). The following morning we all enjoyed a big cooked breakfast with loads of toast, tea and coffee. The landlord couldn't have been more helpful. My sister is gluten intolerant and Chris made sure she was catered for both at the evening meal and at breakfast.Absolutely fantastic! We'll definitely be back when we're next up that way.

It was everything I had hoped for. Beautiful, top quality food in a relaxed but resolutely professional setting. The chefs, Aled and Richard, are incredibly skilled and chatted easily to the table of ten while plating our 14 'snacks' - I was pretty full by round 10 but managed to squeeze in the fabulous final four sweet dishes. The team set an ideal pace, moving us along through the varied menu without feeling rushed. Paul, the sommelier, was a wonderful host. Greeting us with champagne on arrival and curating a varied and interesting selection of wine pairings with charming introductions for each one. He also doubled up as an excellent cocktail maker as the evening progressed. Book it now you won't regret it!

Called for drinks only and enjoyed ourselves immensley. A few locals were in chatting and made us welcome. The real ale was spot on. We had a great chat with the locals and enjoyed their fantastic humour. Wished we could have stayed longer. Will be going back again.

Haven't been here for over 10 years and it was always top notch food, service and professional. We decided to treat ourselves staying overnight at The Manor with dinner and breakfast. Overall we left totally underwhelmed. Reasons are: 1. Check-in. Went direct to restaurant bar to check-in and were directed back to our csr to take a short journey to the Manor. We witnessed many other couples doing the same thing traipsing luggage back and forth to the car. Not a big problem but was not made clear. Just a touch sloppy and unprofessional. 2. General maintenance. While sitting in bar alone we noticed part of the gypsum ceiling crashing to the floor. As the bar was empty I checked it and a large rectangular section had fractured and fallen into the cosmetic fishing net on the ceiling. Fragments fell on to the floor. I reported it to bar staff and they quickly got maintenance involved. As a builder I advised the staff what they could do. The staff apologised but didn't receive a thank you for raising the alarm. 3 Rooms. No problem with them. Very comfortable, stylish and quirky. Some complimentary snacks and coffee. Only issue was a leak on the bath. 4. The hotel offer complimentary hors d oeuvres in the hotel bar between 5-6pm. We ordered two drinks and a small plate of hors d oeuvres was later presented. I have to say they were absolutely rancid. They were stale, tired and inspid. Obviously the hotel want you in their bar to buy over priced drinks. Very very disappointing. 5. Restaurant. The meal was average and the service was poor. Some of the staff were professional while others were not. I ordered a bottle of chardonnay and somehow we ended up with Sav Blanc which after consuming a glass realised the bottle was not what I ordered. There was a 1 hour wait between the starter and main. 6. The bill contained a 10% service charge on the meal. This was not voluntary but landed on the bill. I don't mind tipping but only when satisfied. Overall, an expensive experience where quality did not match price. We will not use again. It seems it is living off its past reputation.
