This little gem was booked almost blindly. We needed accommodation close to the nearby Swinton Hall Estate for family wedding. We had no idea what it was going to be like, nor how expensive the food was likely to be. Well, what a find! We arrived to be greeted by the very friendly landlord, Chris, and his wife. The accommodation is comfortable and clean with all the usual expected bits readily to hand. Downstairs in the bar you're treated to a friendly atmosphere, warm and cosy with a wide choice of very reasonably priced meals available to eat in the deceptively spacious dining room. The food arrived and it was fantastic! Big, hot plates, literally loaded with huge portions of good homemade food. I had steak and ale pie, chips and peas which, like everything else on the menu, was priced at £5! (Back home in Oxfordshire I'd have expected go pay upwards of £12 for the same meal). The following morning we all enjoyed a big cooked breakfast with loads of toast, tea and coffee. The landlord couldn't have been more helpful. My sister is gluten intolerant and Chris made sure she was catered for both at the evening meal and at breakfast.Absolutely fantastic! We'll definitely be back when we're next up that way.

Recently had a 2 night stay. What a little gem of a place! Lovely quaint pub with a coal fire. The landlord and staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was really nice and clean with a huge tv (instead of the usual tiny ones you normally get in a B&B!!) The food was awesome, especially recommend the steak pie with the best gravy ever!!!! Also the sticky toffee pudding was to die for!!! The Full English breakfast each morning was great and set us up for the day. Well done Bay Horse!!

We looked for a hotel to stop in after our visit to the brilliant Black Swan and found this hotel for only £60 and we didnt expect such a great place. The breakfast was almost worthy of the £60 on it's own! The rooms are old fashioned but very clean. Great hospitality, great food and a nice place - don't be put off by the low price.

Stayed one night on a good deal on the way to watch my grandson's passing out parade at the Harrogate army college. The landlord could not have been more helpful, sorting out the best route for me to take the next morning, avoiding closed roads and road works. The room was clean, tidy, comfortable and, apart from creaking floorboards, very quiet. We were very fortunate in arriving on the inn's steak night. The "Bedrock" steak was the best that I have had in many years, with no fat or gristle. We had to leave early the next morning and had no time for breakfast. To compensate and keep us from starving, the landlady made us a couple of doorstop bacon sandwiches to take with us. Many large hotels should send their staff to The Bay Horse to learn what real customer service and hospitality is.

Great portion sizes for 'normal' evening meal. Rare-medium steak (special Wednesdays' steak night) cooked to perfection.

Absolutely amazing BnB!! Walked in and immediately felt like a regular. Warm welcome, clean tidy bedrooms, hot shower (and a bath if you want it), but without doubt the best thing is the food. Portions are huge, quality is amazing and I'm not a breakfast man so the landlord offered us a packed lunch for the day (which we happily accepted and was also great). This particular job is a two parter so we will be staying again!!

The class of 66 stayed here for two nights. Everything was to our expectations and to our taste. Ideal location very close to the A1. Meals are mouth watering and the rooms are warm and very cosy. Chris and Beverley run a very good pub and are helpful and approachable.

Really good quality traditional pub food, with generous portions. We opted for the standard pub fare (pie and scampi) but the menu offered a good choice including vegetarian options.

Stayed overnight so had evening bar meal and breakfast. Such personal attention, served with pride and pleasantness. So refreshing an experience. This village has very recently been cut off by a new stretch of the A1, so to find it you might need to use your latest Sat nav

We were treated to an evening meal here by my son and his partner. (Somehow I ended up paying?). This was a really lovely evening made all the better by Chris and Bev. First class hosts. I had the home made steak pie. The meal was served promptly and hot. I could NOT manage a sweet. The beer was obviously important to them as it was kept in such great condition and served with a smile. Rainton is a lovely little village, quiet and friendly. Sit awhile and watch the swallows flying around. (I think they were swallows anyway).

On a trip to Yorkshire for the weekend we decided to reserve rooms at the Bay Horse, reason being that we had stayed previously and the place is top notch.

Eight of us went for a family birthday, of which 4 were teenagers and can certainly eat. The choice of food is good and the portions huge, nicely presented, always hot and well cooked. The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly which is why we recommend it.

Stayed just one night - our wedding anniversary. Comfortable and clean rooms. Friendly bar. Our only disappointment was that we were there on a Thursday, which the landlord explained was their 'comfort food' night, when all meals are £5. The food was very good and certainly good value - it's just that we had been looking forward to something a bit more special for our anniversary meal. If the website had said that this was the Thursday menu, we would probably have arranged to eat out somewhere else nearby, but it was too late to arrange anything else by the time we had checked in. Not really the fault of the pub, but it would help if they mentioned their comfort food night policy on their website.

We had an overnighter here for our anniversary. As the pub was not open during the day on the Saturday we arranged with the owner to arrive at 1pm to get our keys. We parked the car up and went for a good walk in the North Yorkshire countryside.

The steaks are the best I've ever had. Everything looked good coming out of the kitchen. One of the best places I've ever eaten.... and I'm a chef.

Amazing. I am working my way round the granolas and bircher mueslis of Harrogate and Leeds and this one might have just taken top spot! The granola is delicious, chia yoghurt also, and so much fresh fruit. None of the compote nonsense so many places are providing! My friend had the pancakes which I also tasted and will be ordering next time (preferably tomorrow as I can't wait to go back) as they were so tasty (and not too sweet). The more savoury dishes looked excellent too. Staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The kitchen is open so you can see exactly what's going on and smell the delicious smells. The whole place is light, airy and clean. Great soap in the loos too! If I could rate it higher I would. My new favourite place. See you in there whilst I work my way through the entire menu.

After finding out about this new Hong Kong cafe in the Stray Ferret news, we decided to pay a visit for lunch. The menu was limited but boy, the food was exceptional! We had the fried dumplings and the prawn tempura with curry & rice, accompanied with milk tea. We’ll definitely go back and recommend you seek out.

Love coming to cocoajoes! I find it hard to resist going in every time I visit York. The service is so friendly and welcoming. I love the hot chocolates and the cold chocolate option. Honey I'm comb in a personal favourite. I wanted to try something a little different and the person who was helping me gave me options and let me try the chocolate beforehand. An excellent idea and I can't wait to visit again!

Stopped at the tearoom for lunch during a visit to Ripon. My wife had the savoury cream tea. It was the best scone she has ever had, delicious. I had the ham and cheese toastie. This was also delicious, better than any offering I've made myself. Definitely worth a visit.

The atmosphere was chilled and fairly quite. The menu quality ha a variety amazing options to choose for example the latte was £3.20. We had exceptional service from Euan and Iona! The hygiene was 10 out of 10 cleaning service state of the art. The prices are reasonable and not to expensive compared to the other cafes. Accessible wheel chairs is very good they can manage to get in and out to go through a magical a garden to chill out and have amazing time with their drinks! overall very outstanding service and definitely come back and we will look forward to see you again soon.
