I had the pleasure of eating here for my sister's birthday, and it was one of the best evenings of food that I have ever had. We both had been looking forward this immensely and were not disappointed. From the typically enthusiastic Yorkshire greeting from the sommelier to the actual food itself, the whole evening was one we won't forget. Despite the outstanding food and technical brilliance on show, there was also no hint of pretension which made for a relaxed and engaging evening. Well worth the trip to anyone who thinks they like food!

We travelled from Kent, to enjoy the most wonderful meal at chefs TABLE last night. The evening as a whole was just brilliant with exceptional food, friendly service, wonderful drinks provided by Paul and three chefs who obviously enjoyed sharing their skills and art with their guests. We will definitely be back and our children are wanting to join us having heard all about it!!! A huge thank you to all the team at TRUEfoods for a unique gastronomic meal.

We had the best evening. Starting with Champagne we all went into the industrial kitchen for one of the best meals I’ve ever had. All of us were blown away by the exceptionally high level of cooking and service. We had the paired wines and they were all a perfect match. I can’t recommend this experience enough. Will definitely be back! Thank you for such a wonderful evening x

A fabulous tasting menu. I particularly love this place because you’re up close to the action. As you sit alongside the preparation table. So you can talk to the chefs as they prepare the food. All of it is exquisite and the wine flight full of interesting wines - although I didn’t do the flight this time as I was driving. The tasting menu seems expensive, but actually we drove away saying what value it was for the experience and food we had received. The dining room is a kitchen on an industrial scale. There are pieces of equipment around the room that do all sorts of scientific/chemistry lesson /wizzy stuff with food. Even the herbs are grown in special tall indoor fridge style greenhouse operated remotely by some people in Southampton. The glassware, cutlery and plates are a conversation piece of their own. A Fabulous experience. Would highly recommend.

After so many Chefs, experts and connoisseurs have scored Chef's Table with the maximum score, I feel my contribution is hardly needed, except to say I had very high expectations and they were exceeded. The evening, with friends, was a totally unique experience, like being invited into a top-rated Chef's private kitchen to eat flawless food and drink perfectly matched wine, while enjoying the chat, and watching the artists at work. It was like that, because that's what it was. Thank you Mitch and your team.

If I told you that I was off to an industrial unit in a small village called Melmerby in Yorkshire for a culinary extravaganza……you would probably think I was slightly bonkers. But it’s utterly true!. Our second visit and yet again, cannot really put into words how amazing, exquisite, and unique, this Chefs Table at True Foods is. The food is inspired, the team talk you through every stage of the dish they are preparing for you, and you can tell straight away that they love what they do, through their enthusiasm. The careful selection of wines that are offered to accompany each dish, and wonderfully presented by Paul, is inspired. My husband and I have been privileged to eat in some of the worlds finest restaurants, so our expectations are high. True foods Chefs Table surpasses all of them. Thank you Mitch and your team. You have created something truly exceptional and unique. Until the next time…….. Ali x

I can usefully add little to Clare's review which is absolutely accurate but what I can add is that the wine flight, which she did not have, is stunning value and one of the best I have had.

Chefs table. Our second visit and once again superb. The initial approach to the premises (industrial unit) does not prepare you for what you see when you enter. The interaction between the chefs Mitch, Aled and Richard starts as soon as you arrive with each course being fully explained. Lloyd gives wine pairings and provides expert knowledge and we felt privileged to have eaten here. It is akin to a theatre production but you are on the stage being present in the kitchen whilst the food is prepared around you. This involves using all your senses and the attention to detail through the entire performance is outstanding. The food as you would expect is amazing and without doubt the finest food we have ever tasted or eaten.

Wow! We had such an incredible evening at this gem of a restaurant. It is way more than a meal out, it really is an unrivalled experience. The food is absolutely stunning and we have eaten in Michelin Started restaurants in several Countries and this knocked the socks off many of them. There were so many courses and the overall meal was well balanced and such good fun. The expert chefs are at the top of their game and work as a team being responsible for designing and presenting specific dishes as well as all aspects of service. They explain the dishes so well and are friendly, fun and incredibly kind and passionate. From the moment we arrived and were met by Hugh, the sommelier, we knew we were in capable hands. It was a lovely evening so we had a drink and snacks outside. We then got to see the most amazing kitchen and understand more about the processes. We got the opportunity to chat to all the chefs throughout the evening and it was a very different experience in the nicest way. The wine flight was amazing, tried varieties I had never even heard of as well as some more familiar varieties from interesting vineyards. There were various surprises along the way but I don’t want to give too much away! Words or pictures just do not do justice I would love to go back in the future. A special thanks goes to Hugh who went above and beyond!

Back again! Another fantastic experience. This isn’t just about the food - and wine- which is of course exceptional- but the whole event. To be catered for by such excellent chefs- totally at the top of their game - is an absolute privilege. They all make it seem effortless- clearly it is not! If you love food, love food company and exceptional customer service then try to come here. You will be lucky tho. 10 covers a night on 3 nights a week. Bookings go in minutes when released.

Visited with friends who are dedicated "foodies" amateur chefs - for their second visit since lockdown ended - its a must do experience for anyone who enjoys innovative incredible tasting food and the privilege of being catered for by these top chefs - who whilst cooking are happy to engage in banter and conversation - a simply unique experience. The wine choice was amazing - nothing you would really recognise from obscure hidden gems of wineries such as in Greece - it's expensive of course but the quality is exceptional and the cost cannot cover the expense given the generosity of wine and food - with a limit of 10 covers per sitting. if you love food and wine you must visit. They catered incredibly for my wife request for a beef eating vegetarian tasting menu! Avoided the lobster.... what a waste!

Hidden gem in a really unusual location but the best food and dining experience we have ever had! The atmosphere is so personal and the chefs talk you through each course and make the whole evening extremely special. Far superior to the Michelin star restaurants we have previously been to and worth every penny.

I’ve eaten in Michelin starred restaurants all over the world and there have been few experiences that rival this. From the start and throughout the whole night is interactive and inclusive. The food is amazing and the chefs are engaging. It is worth the wait. Sign up and join the queue. We’ll be back there as soon as we can!

This is the most unusual place to find the best food which we have ever eaten. We have been fortunate to dine at several Michelin starred restaurants and twice at Simon Rogan's L'Enclume in Cartmel. The CHEFStable at TrueFoods surpassed all those fine establishments with the passion, care, ingredients and techniques which went into our taster menu. CHEFStable is located on a small tidy industrial estate in the village of Melmerby and is open only a few weekends each month but it is still a proper restaurant. Bookings are taken online and there may be sometime to wait before a place comes up. The main building is used to prepare stocks, sauces and jus commercially for Waitrose, Fortnum's and Selfridges as well as for highly rated restaurants. The techniques are tried and tested and it is for this reason that they have well run enterprise. The chefs themselves all hail from well-known places but wanted to return to their passion of preparing amazing food for appreciative diners without repeating it every night for large numbers. Consequently, the care and passion which 'Mitch' Mitchell, the owner of TrueFoods, Aled Williams (a Gordon Ramsay Scholarship winner) and up and coming young chef, George, put into making everything perfect is patently obvious. They enjoyed showing us the techniques, processes and innovations which they use to produce an amazing menu. Described as 'snacks,' we were treated to intense flavours of mushroom in a set stock, melt in the mushroom puffs, charred celeriac with lobster, incredible. Main courses included, mallard, mutton, monkfish all with fantastic presentation and accompaniments, with 'cheese and biscuit' and petit fours made with honey from their own garden. The menu varies every time so it is difficult for me to single out anything to try as there is likely to be something equally fantastic on your visit. We enjoyed the plentiful flight of wines introduced by the sommelier, Hugh, and they balanced with the meal perfectly. I look forward to dining at the Chefstable a future date but selfishly I hope that there will still be a place when everyone else has discovered it.

If, like me, you always thought that the heart of a chef’s creations was their stock and therefore presumed that high-end chefs produced their own stocks and sauces, then you’re in for a surprise... Tucked away on a small industrial estate north of the city of Ripon is TRUEfoods, run by Mitch Mitchell and his small team of celebrated chefs. They provide some of the country’s top restaurants with stocks, sauces and pâtés, creating exacting bespoke products for the likes of Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay, as well as producing sauces for the individual consumer available at Waitrose and Booths, amongst other outlets. At the front of the unit they have an experimental kitchen where they develop and demonstrate their products to clients, and it is here that CHEFStable now delights foodies like me by becoming immersed in the preparation, and consumption (of course) of a multi-course tasting menu which surpassed my previous Michelin-star experiences, including Alan Ducasse at The Dorchester. The service is provided by the chefs, and an excellent sommelier, whose relaxed and welcoming manner make you feel like you’ve become friends by the end of the evening. I don’t want to describe too much, for the element of wonder adds to the experience, but for the most incredible dining experience of your life you need to get your name on the waiting list.

We had the most wonderful meal at the Chefs Table, after waiting many months to get a table we were treated like Royalty by a host of high class chefs, each preparing a course and explaining everything they were doing, we love food and are very interested in everything to do with food so this was mesmerising. We were so engrossed in everything we didn't tale a single photograph so have to try and remember every course! The premium wine flight was excellent with everything explained in great detail, we had an a fabulous evening with great people who clearly love their passion of food. It was so incredibly interesting and the food was to die for, the best meal we have ever had, will definitely be back. I am fascinated by chefs and 'special' food so I was in my element. Thank you for a brilliant evening.

When my husband told me that there was a ‘must go to’ place to eat at on Melmerby Industrial Estate outside Ripon, I was justifiably dubious. Oh my goodness was I wrong! To explain briefly True Foods principally make ‘stock’ for a great many restaurants. When I say restaurants I don’t just mean any restaurant I mean some of the very best Michelin starred restaurants! But if you are ever lucky enough to eat here and speak to the team then they will fill you in with the rest of the things they do. I will just say get yourselves to Booths and Waitrose and check out some of their fresh stock and sauces and you will see True Foods are responsible for many of them. However, I digress. Back to our meal at the industrial estate 😆. It was the snowiest of nights and I did wonder if we were completely mad coming from Carperby and Leyburn. We were ushered into a reception room which was toasty warm and met Mitch the head chef and was offered champagne and a nibble. We then entered the kitchen where two stainless steel tables were set up for two lots of four. I would say at this point that if you were a party of six that did want to sit together then that may not work for you. However, we were 4 so it was fine. The whole vibe of the kitchen was one of fun and food. It’s a cosy kitchen space where you can literally see exactly what they are doing, and exactly what goes into what. Not that you can recognise much of it! There were four chefs and dear Tom who beavered away out of sight most of the time washing up THE most beautiful crockery. We have been to many taster menus to some of the best places but rarely have I felt the excitement of anticipation that I felt last night. It was just one amazing course after another. Each chef who was responsible for each course told you what it consisted of and as much about it as you needed to know. The chatter amongst us all was fun and friendly and we came away feeling elated and thoroughly spoilt. The wine flight was an added bonus enjoyed by our friends. But as it was such a snowy night we decided to drive so did not imbibe! I could wax lyrical all day, but I think you get the message. I toyed with the idea of not writing a review as, selfishly, I would love to go again, and as they only open four nights a month the less people know about it the better! However, this is their hobby, their passion and the more people they are able to please then the more they will continue to increase their ideas and repertoire. We were on a waiting list from October last year, so booking is absolutely essential. But be patient you would never regret it. We would go in a heartbeat again. But Shhhh don’t tell everybody or we will not get in again! Thank you so much team Mitch 😘

We have been to Sarita’s wonderful cafe-restaurant a number of times now, and it is always fab! The food, service and ambience are just great. This was the first time we had tried the ‘Raj afternoon tea’, which Sarita and her colleague very kindly prepared for us, even though usually you have to order it 24 hrs ahead. It was sooo delicious, and especially nice to have some really good Indian savouries as well as the sweet treats. Sarita talked us through all the different items she had made, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. We even had some cakes left to take home with us. How she manages to make so many lovely things every day will always remain a mystery - this lady must never sleep! Thanks Sarita - you are amazing!

My partner and I visited The Lime Tree Inn for a celebration and everything was amazing! We stayed the night and enjoyed a very well kept, clean and tidy 5-star room with a lovely en suite, but the real impression was made on us by the food and the staff. We enjoyed the tasting menu along with drinks pairings and everything was perfectly cooked, presented and tasted amazing :) they even allowed us to make alterations to the set menu due to my partners intolerance to coriander! We thought for everything we got it was very reasonably priced and generously portioned - in particular the generous drinks pairings… The overall highlight of our trip had to be the staff… Daniel behind the bar was quick with the drinks service and made really good cocktails, Amy waited on us all night and was knowledgable about the menu and always smiling (we couldn’t believe it was only her third shift there as we learnt later!) and Adam steered the whole evening perfectly! He was clearly as popular amongst his colleagues as he was with us, incredibly friendly and funny. And even though we were the last ones in the restaurant, they allowed us to stop for an extra drink at the end of the night after we finished our meal, as we weren’t quite ready for bed ! We can’t wait to visit again and are looking for any excuse to book a room and another night in the restaurant !
