We have been visiting Crab & Libster for many years. We recently came for the Frank Sinatra tribute evening in October. We also attended the same tribute in February. The evening was fabulous from start to finish. Canapes & Champagne, lobster & fries. Phil Fryer as Frank was superb. What an amazing night. Cabr wait for the December Phil Fryer tribute sings Christmas! What a perfect way to celebrate Christmas. Well done to the Crabbettes Sasha, Maria, Kevin, Ines. It wouldn't be the same without you.

My wife and I went to the hotel for afternoon tea last Thursday ,a birthday present. We were very happy with everything about our experience and would recommend the Afternoon Tea offer. Staff were very polite and helpful from the outset and we took tea in a Conservatory at the side of the hotel. We were the only guests but the room was well laid out and our table nicely prepared. The afternoon tea was good and service throughout excellent. Lovely cakes snd savouries and tea and coffee whenever needed. If we had a suggestion for improvement it would be to serve additional hot water with the tea pot, and a cafetière of coffee rather than single cups. A lovely experience. Geoff Harris

27/10 we have just visited The Crab and Lobster for Sunday Lunch. From start to finish everything was exceptional. I had 3 courses starting with cheese soufflé and followed by roast beef they were both fabulous. My husband thought his sardines were the best he’d ever had and he loved his fish pie. All the small details made the meal sublime including the pudding of Cider Sticky Toffee Pudding with an apple puree on the side. With the service 10/10 and a fabulous atmosphere and a lovely band playing I think it’s clear from my review that we were very impressed. Having recently enjoyed great meals at Middleton Lodge and The Old Deanery we were thrilled to find this topped them all. Thank you Crab and Lobster, we’ll be seeing a lot more of you!

We had a fantastic weekend getting married at the Crab & Lobster. A massive thank you to all the staff who looked after us on the day and special thank you to Abigail and Innes. We had several suppliers and a lot going on during day, everything went to plan, and when we needed support the staff, especially Abigail looked after us superbly. We had food the night before in the private restaurant, we were so well looked after, whilst our guests had a brilliant night eating in the pavilion. Our guests commented how special the manor was, including the accommodation, our guests said they were well looked after by all the staff. Our food throughout the weekend was excellent, again our guests commented how superb the wedding food was , I agree. Highly recommended for a night away, food, and/or your wedding.

Just Spent a fantastic Saturday evening, Sunday breakfast here, celebrating our friends 50th. Had the Turnberry room which was very clean and well furnished. 8 of us ate in the private dining room. We had a great evening, lovely setting, fabulous food. Fantastic staff. Special mention to the girl who attended to us , she was great and added to the occasion. She fully engaged with the 40&50somethings letting our hair down and enjoying a kids free weekend. If you have a staff recognition scheme, please make sure she is recognised for her efforts.

We were slightly apprehensive about our stay after reading some reviews however no need as it was perfect! We arrived at lunch time, a few drinks in the bar (house rose champers was excellent. We had a really nice lunch, I went for al a carte and hubby had the 2 course lunch. We both had cheese soufflé with extra sauce 😍. I had the hake with red curry & a portion of truffle fries & hubby had chicken supreme. Dessert was treacle & pear tart and sticky date pudding. A special mention to Freya who was excellent front of house, so attentive and kind. She is an asset to c&L 👏🙌🏻 All was excellent. We checked in to Bird Island with its own Sauna & hot tub. It had some nibbles in the room and we took a bottle of fizz with us. It was no problem to provide an ice bucket & glasses. Thankyou for a great stay!

First timers for dinner with friends who had dined before. Food was amazing as was the service. We sat in the conservatory which was a lovely setting. Ladies toilets (both) were out of use and not flushing. Pleased I waited till we were leaving as think it would have put me off my meal had I have return to the table after using a toilet that wasn't clean 😩

We were recommended this place for dinner by friend and we’re looking forward to a lovely dinner. The place is unusual and you will have different experiences depending if you sit in the main restaurant or conservative. The food was tasty, but it left you wanting more - my fish soup, had 1 mini scallop, few brown shrimps, 4 mussels but no fish what so ever! I then ordered the main and asked for no potatoes, but unfortunately, this was not delivered as expected. We left feeling that we had a tasty meal, but with a sense of “could have done better” - would I recommend it? Maybe!

Went for afternoon tea, absolutely awful. Twice had to ask for my name, then had to ask for coffee as not offered as wasn't the complimentary prosecco, again had to ask! The brioche were so hard I couldn't cut it! Mentioned this to the girl with the overly white teeth who needs to work on her attitude! Scones were hard, although the preserve was great! Macaron was synthetic tasting as were some of the other cakes I dared to try...in fact I left the majority it was so bad. The only redeeming factors were the coffee, prosecco and Peter. Definitely wouldn't come here for afternoon tea again, it's not up to standard.

Arrived early (before 6pm) told that 6 tables had arrived before us and there would be a 45 minutes wait but we could have starters while we waited. Starters arrived 1hr and 5mins later but no order for a main. We left after 1hr40mins after being ignored and paid £60 for 2 starters ( brushetta and calamara) of average quality and low small portions together with 3 drinks. Very expensive for average food and dreadful service. Will never use again....which is a shame as we have used a few times beforehand...views are good bit Catch at Ryde is far better quality, service and food choice.

Sunday lunch in the restaurant. First visitedprobably 8 years + ago. First class food and service. Fixed price menu for 2 or 3 courses. Traditional beef, lamb or belly pork with vegetables etc well cooked and presented. Only downside was drinks slightly expensive at £13 for a glass of rose and similar for a small espresso martini. Very quaint setting with strange variety of artefacts hanging from the ceiling. My wife however was slightly concerned that there was accumation of dust on some items which were above our heads as we ate.

We booked this as a way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We drove into the restaurant first before being redirected to the Manor House behind. The staff that greeted us were cheerful and pleasant. Our room was beautiful and as we were dining at the restaurant in the evening we had informed them that my husband is Gluten Free, so a beautiful touch in our room was some GF cookies. My husband was absolutely delighted. We loved the sauna and afterwards we had a nightcap. The night staff member Chris was fantastic and really made our time feel special. He chatted to us at length providing us with lots of helpful local knowledge and just being a pleasure to talk to. We really appreciated this as all the other guests had disappeared! We would definitely come again, for the good food and the location, but especially for the good craic!

The Crab and Lobster is such a uniquely special hotel, the rooms are all themed meaning that no two stays are the same (unless you want them to). I'm only giving this 4 stars overall due to one thing, the rooms are starting to look a little dated and could do with a freshen up. We stayed in one of the lodges with a hot tub and it just felt a little old. The hot tub cover had some damage and there were lights that were no longer working. The bath in the room (it doesn't have a standing shower) was very slow to fill as the taps are loose and the pull out shower attachment had bits missing so water went everywhere when we tried to use it. Tea and coffee are available as in most hotels but the bottled water provided had no lid, so we chose not to use it. I give the staff 5 stars though, they were all friendly, helpful and I have to give a special mention to Freya in the bar/restaurant who was more than happy to go out of her way to ensure our needs were met. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice and a drink in the bar after checking out made a nice end to our stay. We will definitely be going back, and living only 20 minutes away means we'll be visiting the restaurant again too.

I recently took my wife to Crab Lobster in North Yorkshire for a surprise wedding anniversary afternoon tea, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to a charming pod located in the beautiful grounds of the restaurant. Peter, our attentive host, introduced himself and promptly took our drinks order. The selection of sandwiches, scones, and desserts was nothing short of delightful. Each item was exquisitely prepared and delicious. We were able to relax and savor our tea at our own pace, without feeling rushed—something rare in many places. Peter’s attentive yet unobtrusive service added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. He checked in on us to ensure everything was perfect and to take any additional drink orders. This exceptional level of service and attention to detail truly reflects the high standards we have come to expect from Crab Lobster. I would highly recommend Crab Lobster to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The combination of outstanding food, picturesque setting, and impeccable service made our anniversary truly special.

Rooms are themed so it's an individual score the room we had wasn't to our taste but we are sure it will be fine for others. The overall ambiance was fantastic we were in a group of 16 without a doubt that helps however we did see couples also having a wonderful time. The service was superb very friendly staff in the restaurant and bar area however booking out was slightly different for some of the group. Items added to their bill but nobody ordered those items were removed with some persuasion just left a bad taste. Would we return the answer is yes but we'd select a different themed room.

Very over rated, service was poor, We went for our wedding anniversary, the food was nice however, £13 for a glass of wine I thought was expensive, our coats were taken before we sat at our table, which was nice however when we went to collect them after our meal they couldn’t find them, they asked me to have a look in their so called cloakroom to find all the customers coats thrown onto a chair with most of them including my suit jacket on the floor… Our candle on our table went out, I kindly asked if we could have another and immediately, the waiter replaced it, however 5 minutes later that went out, so I politely asked for another, the waiter came along and banged a large candle in a holder on the table and said sarcastically, will that do… Anyway 2 drinks each 2 starters 2 main meals, mine fish and chips the bill arrives at £147…

We’ve made a tradition of visiting this legendary pub and restaurant twice a year on regular visits to North Yorkshire, but this will be our last visit - it’s really gone down hill. Over the years we’ve recommended the food to friends and enjoyed it every time. We weren’t able to visit in 2023 and really noticed a difference in many changes since the hotel and restaurant were taken over. We’ve always enjoyed the set menu on a Saturday lunch but as soon as we went in the pub we noticed small differences; ranging from no complimentary sausages at the bar, no homemade chocolates with coffee, less appetiser bread, and most importantly a more expensive but reduced set menu. It was at least half an hour before our order was taken and an hour and 15 minutes before we had drinks and our starters. My seared mackerel was raw inside and smelled vile. It was removed from the bill and another started offered with apologies. The starter had put me off so I said I’d rather wait for the main course which should have been fairly imminent. However, it was another 40 minutes before the main course came, and that was with chasing. All of the main courses were very good, it has to be said, but we were there for nearly two and a half hours, for two courses with drinks. Whilst we were there, two couples came in separately asking if they could have a drink and a snack, having checked into the hotel but we told that the restaurant & bar was full. There were several empty tables in the bar so presumably they were up to capacity in the kitchen. You could see the hotel guests were very frustrated. It’s a charming bar and dining room, but the staff in the bar and kitchen seemed in a state of disarray. It’s such a shame. We won’t return and we won’t recommend it after going all these years. It was another recent experience where reasonably high-end food fell massively short by being shortstaffed both front of house and presumably in the kitchen, and spoiled what should have been a lovely occasion. As a customer I understand the prices have risen by at least 25% recently and that those costs are inevitably passed on. But, because a meal out understandably cost us more we go out a lot less than we used to and it’s often for a special occasion, so when the food or Service fall short on that special occasion, but we’re still paying a lot of money for it, it just doesn’t stack up. This last observation isn’t just about the Crab and Lobster, it’s about medium-high end hospitality in general. Hospitality at this level is in crisis, and it’s feeling like a vicious circle with their rising costs and a labour shortage.

Our third dinner, bed and breakfast visit. Probably our last. Not terrible, just not value for money all things considered. The staff are courteous and friendly. The private hot tub lived up to expectations. The room (Serbelloni on this occasion) was spacious and nicely situated. Other than a linen change and a cursory clean, housekeeping must have skipped a proper job (dead insects in the corner of the bathroom, dusty surfaces). The (very low) wall hung toilet creaked when sat on (evidently botched up), the sink was cracked and the shower drainage was poor which resulted in some overflow onto the bathroom floor. Shabby chic it is not. Dinner was satisfactory - despite our request for ‘no dairy’ after a 30 minute wait for our chateaubriand (happy with the length of time it took to prepare) the restaurant manager advised us that the chef had added butter to the pan. I recall the question being along the lines of ‘how dairy allergic are you?’ As it was more a dietary preference, we accepted the food rather than face a further 30 minute wait. The Rioja Tempranillo wine we requested was not available. A replacement was provided (Caupo Gran Sellecion) and to be fair we were offered a taste. On reflection, a poor wine and not what one might expect for £63. Ahead of our visit, we sent an email to Matthew Robertson (at his suggestion) after a previous visit and some questionable food on that occasion. No reply from Matthew prior to our visit. In our opinion, there are many better ways to spend getting on for £500 in less than 24 Hours. Shame, but we are unlikely to be back.

superb seafood - never disappoints. I enjoyed the fish soup although a few more croutons and rouille would have been appreciated and my wife had a very sizeable crab. The stone bass and fish mains were very good with varying and complimentary flavours on the plate. a good value pouilly fume washed it down. The service was friendly if lacking in communication between staff - 4-5 star experience - 9/10 if it could be given we stayed in the crab manor hotel which was five star also

This is our 3rd time to stay and dine here. We always stay in the Manor Hotel. Fabulous room. Homemade chocolate cookies in our room which are delicious. Canapés in the bar between 5 and 6. Gives you a nice chance to chat to other residents. Our meal was amazing. I had the scallops with a Gruyère crust. My husband had the Moules. Then I had my favourite Lobster with garlic butter. Hubbie had sirloin steak. Then we shared the cheesecake as we were both full. We just love the atmosphere in the restaurant, the dreamy music and fascinating items to look at. We are now booking our next stay in one of the fabulous lodges.

We were 2 couples who had Sunday lunch at the C & L, we were all disappointed. The food was tepid, the roast potatoes inedible and the chips questionable. The service was inadequate and inattentive. When we received the bill we’d been overcharged according to the set menu rates but we weren’t interested enough to point that out. The venue automatically place a 10% service charge on the bill, we all particularly dislike this practice. For the same price you can eat in much nicer places, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Having not been here for many years (pre COVID) we decided to book for Sunday lunch. The interior is exactly as we remembered it, quirky, charming and so very intimate. The service was relaxed and good; not at all hurried but prompt and courteous. Great choice of dishes on the Sunday lunch menu, ranging from traditional roasts through lighter fish and vegetarian dishes. My husband was particularly pleased with his starter of prawns and crab. We both chose the traditional roast beef lunch and it was superb, a huge portion of tender beef, roast potatoes and veg, greens and an enormous Yorkshire pudding. Extra gravy and horseradish sauce. I was too full for dessert but my husband chose the rhubarb cheese cake and it was delightful. So pleased to see champagne served in traditional coupes rather than flutes, it does feel rather special. All in all, a lovely lunch, we very much enjoyed, and we felt a very reasonable bill for the quality.

My friend and I were having girls getaway and decided to treat ourselves to a superb meal plus the best villa for relaxation. For dinner we were greeted by Matthew and Andy and lead us to our seats and was always attentive to our needs. We both ordered fish and it was great plus the dessert was excellent especially the sticky toffee pudding. When we went back to our villa, oh what a way to end the night with our own sauna and jacuzzi at the comfort of our private villa. Kuddos to the whole team of the hotel who were so friendly and very attentive to all our request. What an excellent way to have bonding with friends. Imagine you have your own spa at the comfort of your own villa/room! what a treat indeed. We will definitely be back and have another get away and just relax and enjoy the amazing villas plus the sumptuous dishes and desserts at Crab and Lobster

Extremely good fish restaurant. We had a lovely meal. They do accommodate well behaved dogs in the bar area by prior booking. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.

We stayed in the Shangri-La suite. Beautiful room and service all round. We got engaged that evening, and the restaurant manager went above and beyond to ensure we were well looked after. We are so grateful for the service we received, it really made our day special. Thank you!

Sunday lunch with the family, haven't been in a few years and it never dissapoints us. Service from when we walked in the door was first class, as was service throughout lunch. They had a live jazz duo which a great added element. All the food we had was super and we will definitely be back again soon - thank you 😊

I’ve visited the Crab for over 20 years to eat and also stayed a few times. The last few visits for lunch were not good, I’ve visited with different friends and all felt the same. One time we had to ask for the table setting as things were missing and even had to get up twice looking for a waiter. Today I decided if it was still as bad that was my last visit, but have to say a big improvement! Waitresses very pleasant and the food was excellent. Instead of the conservatory we were all in the restaurant and quite busy. The prices have gone up and don’t like the service charge which has been on for a while, but it’s always removed when asked and prefer to tip the server rather than the company! We will return.

Dined for my birthday and was not disappointed, lobster is a treat and sadly not many places do it now, for me the crab and lobster does it best, dessert was cheese which was served table side and made the evening memorable

A much reduced menu. Dessert menu especially poor. Nothing chocolate based, no cheesecake, no meringue in any form. And they now add 10% service charge. I wonder why management no longer comments on reviews. Empty tables speak volumes.

the lunch value midweek is terrific value - two courses for £25 and full of fresh and high quality fish . it has been a while since we have been but the traditional decor has been supplemented with more modern tables - friendly service and fine chablis and very good deserts a superb lunch
