Lovely hotel. Gorgeous weather to go along with the day aswell. I stayed in the shangri-la, and it was one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed, the amazingly comfy bed, little treats in the mini fridge and the bathroom that was unreal. Staff were so welcoming and friendly, special shout out to Maria and Fabio. Who were very accommodating. Had dinner on the evening and the crab for me starter and the steak for my main were exceptional. The steak cooked over an open flame to the preference I wanted, i don't think I've had better. Would 100% come again!

We visited to celebrate a special birthday with friends and the experience could not have been more perfect. All the staff were friendly and welcoming the dining room was beautiful in the candlelight. We have visited before and have always enjoyed the experience but we felt extra spoiled this time with everyone going out of their way to make the evening memorable. The food was delicious. I think the lobster Thermidor is perhaps the best I’ve tasted, half was perfect for me but the birthday boy splashed out on the full one, and it was huge, served with a nicely dressed salad and amazing chips! The Pear Creme Brûlée was fantastic, the assiette of desserts shared by my friends topped off evening perfectly.

We enjoyed the most succulent fresh tasty Oysters and Lobster Thermodor King scallops and Fish all served beautifully presented. The assiette of desserts was truly delicious. We felt thouroughly spoilt for my husbands 60th Birthday and will return to taste more of their fabulous menu. Thankyou Vaughan & Josh .

After visiting this restaurant several times over the past 20 years the quality , service & presentation of this restaurant no longer reflects what it was ! We last listed 3 years ago & the service then was applauding on that visit but decided to try it again . My husband booked it as a Xmas present for me , the accommodation was nice , but the service , quality of food & presentation leaves so much to be desired ! No longer is there any garnish on the plate ! Everything looks plonked on ! We asked for 3 separate white wines , out of a choice of about 7 only to be told that they were all out of stock as they hadn’t been to the local stockists to restock , eventually the bottle we had was full of sediment & then to be told by the bar manager it must have been an old bottle ? The prices they are charging do not reflect the quality they present ! £88 for a lobster & chips? Breakfast took over 50 minutes to serve & half the food on the plate was undercooked ! The other half over cooked and inedible , with the kitchen staff then shouting & falling out amongst themselves using foul language which could clearly be heard in the restaurant! Gents becareful when washing your hands and make sure you hold the tap in place ! Did not make a pleasant stay or experience would not recommend or revisit again ! No wonder they now only have a 3 star rating. , they have done well to achieve this !

Haven't been here for over 10 years and it was always top notch food, service and professional. We decided to treat ourselves staying overnight at The Manor with dinner and breakfast. Overall we left totally underwhelmed. Reasons are: 1. Check-in. Went direct to restaurant bar to check-in and were directed back to our csr to take a short journey to the Manor. We witnessed many other couples doing the same thing traipsing luggage back and forth to the car. Not a big problem but was not made clear. Just a touch sloppy and unprofessional. 2. General maintenance. While sitting in bar alone we noticed part of the gypsum ceiling crashing to the floor. As the bar was empty I checked it and a large rectangular section had fractured and fallen into the cosmetic fishing net on the ceiling. Fragments fell on to the floor. I reported it to bar staff and they quickly got maintenance involved. As a builder I advised the staff what they could do. The staff apologised but didn't receive a thank you for raising the alarm. 3 Rooms. No problem with them. Very comfortable, stylish and quirky. Some complimentary snacks and coffee. Only issue was a leak on the bath. 4. The hotel offer complimentary hors d oeuvres in the hotel bar between 5-6pm. We ordered two drinks and a small plate of hors d oeuvres was later presented. I have to say they were absolutely rancid. They were stale, tired and inspid. Obviously the hotel want you in their bar to buy over priced drinks. Very very disappointing. 5. Restaurant. The meal was average and the service was poor. Some of the staff were professional while others were not. I ordered a bottle of chardonnay and somehow we ended up with Sav Blanc which after consuming a glass realised the bottle was not what I ordered. There was a 1 hour wait between the starter and main. 6. The bill contained a 10% service charge on the meal. This was not voluntary but landed on the bill. I don't mind tipping but only when satisfied. Overall, an expensive experience where quality did not match price. We will not use again. It seems it is living off its past reputation.

We were meant to visit in December but couldn't make it due to being ill. We contacted the hotel who were great and understanding and moved the date for us. Just arrived home after a great night away. All staff we came into contact with were so helpful and friendly especially the young lady serving drinks in the hotel bar and also the night porter. The room we stayed in was the Mount Nelson which was very quirky and also very clean ,the room was also stocked with some treats ,Cookies ,crisps and nuts , plenty of tea and coffee all included in the price. There was also a hidden Beer tap located in the hotel ,which I happened to find and sample a couple of times 😉. Spent a couple of hours in the hot tub and sauna on the afternoon which is another plus point. There is also a pitch and putt golf hole . We ate at the restaurant on the night which had a great atmosphere, the mussels for starters were one of the best I've had ,the only negative of the whole stay was the pork belly which wasn't cooked enough for me as I expect the crackling to be crispy not soft. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Highly recommended.

Beware!! This hotel does not honour the wording on their voucher which states ‘Gift vouchers are valid for monetary amounts, in exchange for services of equivalent value’. We tried to book a winter getaway ‘bed, breakfast & dinner’ package which was just short of the value of the voucher but were told we could only book bed and breakfast. Reached out to the general manager for explanation as to why our request was rejected and still awaiting a reply 16 days later.

I have left 5 stars for this place previously when I was staying as a standard guest, this time I am leaving a review as we just had our wedding here less than a week ago and as expected our experience was just incredible! We have stayed here 5 times now including our wedding and I can never speak highly enough of the venue and the restraunt, as we were here for our wedding this time with a booked out venue we had the privilege of seeing every single room and I can honestly say that every single one of our 41 guests felt exactly the same as us, every room is perfectly designed, unbelievably clean you won't find a specific anywhere even given the amount of artifacts everywhere! The food is so consistent and the staff are wonderful, for our wedding they honestly couldn't do more for us and our day was so much more than we ever thought due to the little touches that were done by the staff without us asking, we were made to feel welcome by all staff members from restraunt, hotel, night porters, cleaners to maintenence just everyone was incredible! I cannot reccomend this place enough and we know it took only seconds of being there for many of our guests to want to plan their next trip! Special mentions to Abigail, Ines and Faye, there are so many more we could name but these 3 made our day more than perfect!

We have been here for many years after a 4 year gap what a disappointment, our under flor heating didn’t work the room was freezing a maintenance man did try to sort it but to no avail we were offered an electric heater my husband had asthma so we declined that, our evening meal was booked for 8:30 we arrived at 8:15 and we told we were too early and to sit at a dirty used table till 8:30, we we taken to our table and had to wait 20 mins until I asked if our order would be taken I was told they were busy and someone would be with me soon, the food was bland muscles were scarce and most were empty, husbands steak was also bland and tasteless, when we paid the bill £50 was deducted because of hearing issue, various drinks which he had not had were added to our room this was sorted, they added £14 tip to the bill when we had written on the bill we didn’t want to pay this because service as awful, sadly we won’t be staying here again it’s an expensive luxury and we felt it was overpriced and didn’t enjoy the experience.

Looking forward to my husbands birthday lunch yesterday, we chose from the a la carte menus, we weren’t given the choice of the Xmas set menu, wonder why! would have nice to have been offered it. I chose prawn and crayfish cocktail with Bloody Mary shot, beware.. prawns were brown shrimps not juicy large prawns, no crayfish and no Bloody Mary shot price £16. To be fair main course of wrapped monkfish was excellent. I ordered 1 cheese board, what arrived was unbelievable, 2 small slices of Wensleydale cheese, 4 thin biscuits and 2 pieces of fruit cake. On arriving home and looking at all the menus, it appears we were given the set menu cheese plate, no explanation why, certainly not a cheese selection, but still charged the a la carte price. Considering we only had 1 small glass of wine and 2 beers, 2 ( 1 dubious)starters, 2 mains and 1 cheese, it was certainly overpriced at just under £160. Had we been given the correct order from the menu I may have felt more satisfied and would not be writing this review. Will certainly not be returning, overpriced and underwhelmed, not a patch on the Wensleydale Heiffer for less money.

Spent the night in the Las Vegas room, and had a great night! We checked in and were shown to our room by friendly staff members, the Las Vegas room is £345 a night. The room looks like photos but is quite basic, the bathroom looks fabulous though. Hot tub is great, the Las Vegas room is in an area with 2 other rooms but couldn’t really hear the other occupants, but could hear feet walking in the room above occasionally. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had a delicious breakfast the next morning, the only reason it hasn’t got 5/5 is because the skylight is broken has a pair of slippers propping it open, there were finger prints on the bed frame - we actually found it amusing trying to figure out what previous occupants had been up to, but could maybe have a better clean, the plug is broken in bath tub, had to use keys to release it, and the room decor is a little lack lustre. But we would love to come back and visit another room! We had an explore and I think the Raffles room is top of my list for next time!

The afternoon tea was good and service throughout excellent. Lovely cakes snd savouries and tea and coffee whenever needed. If we had a suggestion for improvement it would be to serve additional hot water with the tea pot, and a cafetière of coffee rather than single cups. A lovely experience. Geoff Harris

I had 3 courses starting with cheese soufflé and followed by roast beef they were both fabulous. My husband thought his sardines were the best he’d ever had and he loved his fish pie. All the small details made the meal sublime including the pudding of Cider Sticky Toffee Pudding with an apple puree on the side. With the service 10/10 and a fabulous atmosphere and a lovely band playing I think it’s clear from my review that we were very impressed. Disappointed with quality of starter, which was the fish soup. There is no taste and burnt toast. Main course of fish cakes was delicious. However, a visit to the bathroom left me speechless, no running water to wash hands, and taps were loose and just turned around. Staff were brilliant, and the service was fantastic. The Ambience of place was beautiful, but I don't feel it was up to the star level I read on their website. Don't think I would visit again which is disappointing as the place has so much potential. The place is unusual and you will have different experiences depending if you sit in the main restaurant or conservative. The food was tasty, but it left you wanting more - my fish soup, had 1 mini scallop, few brown shrimps, 4 mussels but no fish what so ever! I then ordered the main and asked for no potatoes, but unfortunately, this was not delivered as expected. The brioche were so hard I couldn't cut it! Mentioned this to the girl with the overly white teeth who needs to work on her attitude! Scones were hard, although the preserve was great! Macaron was synthetic tasting as were some of the other cakes I dared to try...in fact I left the majority it was so bad. The only redeeming factors were the coffee, prosecco and Peter. I'm only giving this 4 stars overall due to one thing, the rooms are starting to look a little dated and could do with a freshen up. We stayed in one of the lodges with a hot tub and it just felt a little old. The hot tub cover had some damage and there were lights that were no longer working. The bath in the room (it doesn't have a standing shower) was very slow to fill as the taps are loose and the pull out shower attachment had bits missing so water went everywhere when we tried to use it. Tea and coffee are available as in most hotels but the bottled water provided had no lid, so we chose not to use it. I give the staff 5 stars though, they were all friendly, helpful and I have to give a special mention to Freya in the bar/restaurant who was more than happy to go out of her way to ensure our needs were met. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice and a drink in the bar after checking out made a nice end to our stay. We will definitely be going back, and living only 20 minutes away means we'll be visiting the restaurant again too.

The selection of sandwiches, scones, and desserts was nothing short of delightful. Each item was exquisitely prepared and delicious. We were able to relax and savor our tea at our own pace, without feeling rushed—something rare in many places. Peter’s attentive yet unobtrusive service added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. He checked in on us to ensure everything was perfect and to take any additional drink orders. This exceptional level of service and attention to detail truly reflects the high standards we have come to expect from Crab Lobster. I would highly recommend Crab Lobster to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The combination of outstanding food, picturesque setting, and impeccable service made our anniversary truly special.

Rooms are themed so it's an individual score the room we had wasn't to our taste but we are sure it will be fine for others. The overall ambiance was fantastic we were in a group of 16 without a doubt that helps however we did see couples also having a wonderful time. The service was superb very friendly staff in the restaurant and bar area however booking out was slightly different for some of the group. Items added to their bill but nobody ordered those items were removed with some persuasion just left a bad taste. Would we return the answer is yes but we'd select a different themed room.

Just had an overnight DBB staying in Raffles, beyond superb, looks exactly like the photograph, real attention to detail, right down to gluten and lactose free chocolate brownies on the welcome tray and soya milk in fridge. Fabulously private, fabulous room, hot tub and sauna, with addition of super comfy bed. Booked for Birthday treat and certainly not disappointed, can’t wait to go back, such a wonderful relaxed break and the decor and gardens are amazing, plenty of colonial talking points.

The food - outstanding. Beautifully cooked and presented. The service was outstanding with different food from each course served at the same time. No one waited for food to be finished. The venue, well it’s simply brilliant. It’s a great place to be. Thanks to all the team who made this special day even more magical.

Had an evening meal in the bar as we had our dog with us. Fantastic food. Really delicious. Sweetcorn and chili soup to start - smoky and just right. Lovely bread. Wonderful fish pie and the pork belly was delicious. We struggled to manage desserts but had rice pudding and an ice cream. Can’t fault the food and staff were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Grateful that the dog was allowed in the bar area. Would go again if staying locally.

The bar area where there is a dog friendly section where we enjoyed the attentive service which was provided by the restaurant team.We would like to take this opportunity to mention Andy the Chef and his team on providing us with a beautiful meal in the evening which consisted of the best Cheese Soufflé we’ve ever tasted even our dog Poppy got spoilt with a sausage at breakfast next morning .I would like to mention Holly on reception ,Kevin the porter where nothing was to much trouble once again many thanks for a wonderful stay .

My husband and I met our son and daughter in law to be at the crab and lobster 🦞 for the BBQ evening with overnight stay. Followed by the afternoon tea the day after. It was amazing from start to finish and we certainly didn't want to come home. With a free upgrade to The Hermitage suite which is fabulous. The BBQ was very relaxed and all staff members were so friendly. The music just added to the amazing evening. The food was freshly BBQ, so tasty especially the swordfish! It was a buffet style evening with food, drinks and great music. We were blown away by the The Hermitage suite and the complimentary fridge too. Thank you so much for a lovely evening. The afternoon tea was beautiful and served in the conservatory looking out to the garden. Amazing presentation of delicious foods. Such a relaxing afternoon with family in great relaxing atmosphere.

Lovely place for a stay over. Hotel service good and lovely restful location. Crab and lobster restaurant was dissapointing. Waited ages to visit and there wasn't any LOBSTER! Although the food served was delicious and staff friendly it was rather off putting to ge told No Mussels, no lobster. Soon after other customers told sorry No whitby crab left and sorry No Tiger prawns! Dissapointing for such a renewed sea food restaurant.

Crab manor is excellent with great service, amazing themed bedrooms(we chose Venice) and a really cosy bar.So many interesting things to look out, things to do and you can enjoy the lovely gardens.Walking through the gardens you can spot the pine lodges, the jacuzzis and the thatched Crab and Lobster restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite dark with flickering lights that makes it look like the inside of an old galleon.Again plenty to see ,a lot hanging from the ceiling and all very interesting. The food was very nice, quick to come out and tasty. Finally a nice walk back to the manor for a nightcap in the bar.A really nice evening for a very special occasion.

Restaurant service shocking , main course arriving before starter plates cleared,we asked what cheese board was “ sort of Brie & something blue “ . was the answer.Asked for port & shown a bottle of sherry & a bottle of Dubonett. ( they did have port) . Had to ask for drinks , never offered coffees. Hang on to Kevin in the main house , he’s your best asset. Stayed many times in the past but tired & needs TLC .

Very over rated, service was poor, We went for our wedding anniversary, the food was nice however, £13 for a glass of wine I thought was expensive, our coats were taken before we sat at our table, which was nice however when we went to collect them after our meal they couldn’t find them, they asked me to have a look in their so called cloakroom to find all the customers coats thrown onto a chair with most of them including my suit jacket on the floor… Our candle on our table went out, I kindly asked if we could have another and immediately, the waiter replaced it, however 5 minutes later that went out, so I politely asked for another, the waiter came along and banged a large candle in a holder on the table and said sarcastically, will that do… Anyway 2 drinks each 2 starters 2 main meals, mine fish and chips the bill arrives at £147…

We’ve made a tradition of visiting this legendary pub and restaurant twice a year on regular visits to North Yorkshire, but this will be our last visit - it’s really gone down hill. Over the years we’ve recommended the food to friends and enjoyed it every time. We weren’t able to visit in 2023 and really noticed a difference in many changes since the hotel and restaurant were taken over. We’ve always enjoyed the set menu on a Saturday lunch but as soon as we went in the pub we noticed small differences; ranging from no complimentary sausages at the bar, no homemade chocolates with coffee, less appetiser bread, and most importantly a more expensive but reduced set menu. It was at least half an hour before our order was taken and an hour and 15 minutes before we had drinks and our starters. My seared mackerel was raw inside and smelled vile. It was removed from the bill and another started offered with apologies. The starter had put me off so I said I’d rather wait for the main course which should have been fairly imminent. However, it was another 40 minutes before the main course came, and that was with chasing. All of the main courses were very good, it has to be said, but we were there for nearly two and a half hours, for two courses with drinks. Whilst we were there, two couples came in separately asking if they could have a drink and a snack, having checked into the hotel but we told that the restaurant & bar was full. There were several empty tables in the bar so presumably they were up to capacity in the kitchen. You could see the hotel guests were very frustrated. It’s a charming bar and dining room, but the staff in the bar and kitchen seemed in a state of disarray. It’s such a shame. We won’t return and we won’t recommend it after going all these years. It was another recent experience where reasonably high-end food fell massively short by being shortstaffed both front of house and presumably in the kitchen, and spoiled what should have been a lovely occasion. As a customer I understand the prices have risen by at least 25% recently and that those costs are inevitably passed on. But, because a meal out understandably cost us more we go out a lot less than we used to and it’s often for a special occasion, so when the food or Service fall short on that special occasion, but we’re still paying a lot of money for it, it just doesn’t stack up. This last observation isn’t just about the Crab and Lobster, it’s about medium-high end hospitality in general. Hospitality at this level is in crisis, and it’s feeling like a vicious circle with their rising costs and a labour shortage.

This was my first stay at the Crab and Lobster, and I will definitely return. We had lunch in the restaurant, both the food and service were impeccable. We then stayed in a room with its own hot tub and sauna, absolutely wonderful. We joined the porter, Kevin, in the lounge for complimentary canapés and managed to put the hidden beer tap to good use! Kevin was brilliant, made everyone feel at home and relaxed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, and all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our third dinner, bed and breakfast visit. Probably our last. Not terrible, just not value for money all things considered. The staff are courteous and friendly. The private hot tub lived up to expectations. The room (Serbelloni on this occasion) was spacious and nicely situated. Other than a linen change and a cursory clean, housekeeping must have skipped a proper job (dead insects in the corner of the bathroom, dusty surfaces). The (very low) wall hung toilet creaked when sat on (evidently botched up), the sink was cracked and the shower drainage was poor which resulted in some overflow onto the bathroom floor. Shabby chic it is not. Dinner was satisfactory - despite our request for ‘no dairy’ after a 30 minute wait for our chateaubriand (happy with the length of time it took to prepare) the restaurant manager advised us that the chef had added butter to the pan. I recall the question being along the lines of ‘how dairy allergic are you?’ As it was more a dietary preference, we accepted the food rather than face a further 30 minute wait. The Rioja Tempranillo wine we requested was not available. A replacement was provided (Caupo Gran Sellecion) and to be fair we were offered a taste. On reflection, a poor wine and not what one might expect for £63. Ahead of our visit, we sent an email to Matthew Robertson (at his suggestion) after a previous visit and some questionable food on that occasion. No reply from Matthew prior to our visit. In our opinion, there are many better ways to spend getting on for £500 in less than 24 Hours. Shame, but we are unlikely to be back.

Hubbie had sirloin steak. Then we shared the cheesecake as we were both full. We just love the atmosphere in the restaurant, the dreamy music and fascinating items to look at. The Restraunt was busy and had a nice atmosphere . The main courses were lovely, the fish excellent . The scallop starter was disappointing - I wanted to try king scallops for the first time and they were described by staff as 3 large scallops . When they arrived they did not look like whole scallops and smaller than average . Our disappointment was not acknowledged.

Honestly. This place is nothing short of 5* I last visited roughly 2-3 years ago now, an I had the best calamari of my life. Ever since I’ve been searching for better and been disappointed at every turn. Never living up to FISK. I said to my-self before I visited today not to get my hopes up. They always say, don’t meet your hero’s… you’ll be disappointed. Disappointed I was not. The calamari was nothing short of exceptional, the Monkfish Curry was amazing and the dessert top marks.. lol… Thanks, Happy customer (STUFFED)
