Went here for the first time in many years last night, was lovely fresh food. My mum got the fish pie and she said it was lovely, I got fish and chips and it was all very fresh and delish. Normally, this sort of food makes me feel very bloated and a bit nauseas (worth it tho) but their food did not. It wasn’t overly greasy and tasted just so fresh. Will 100% be back. My only suggestions would be to advertise you are dog friendly and invest in an online booking system! We planned on bringing our dog and the restaurant were happy to accommodate, but I had to call up to book and check they were happy for us to bring her. Not a big deal whatsoever but personally I prefer an online bookings system. Oh… and please get coke not Pepsi 😉

Almost perfect and still one of the best fish and chips in harrogate. The food was great , fish was to perfection , also bagged a fish cake which tasted amazing (not the two slabs of potato, but fish and potato mashed and mixed, was one of the best I’ve had in years). The only slight thing, and it’s personal is I prefer my chips more cooked , again nothing wrong it’s a personal preference). Will defiantly be revisiting for another treat.

If you've read my review on The Guy Fawkes Arms at Scotton, you'll know my neighbours (and I) are investigating and assessing pubs/restaurants suitable for Christmas lunch 2023. Erm, assuming they are open on the day of course. Our second restaurant for assessment was Graveleys on Cheltenham Parade (rear of the theatre). Most of us had been to the 'old' Graveleys in past decades. We visited Graveleys on Wednesday 29th March 2023 between about 17:20 and 18:40. We had been to see 'Allelujah' at the cinema beforehand. Not a film any of us could recommend. Our group consisted of 5 persons: 3 female, 2 male. Of whom, 4 were 60+ and one 50+. We hadn't booked a table but, I think, as popularity will no doubt increase, it would be advisable for groups to book. After a 2 minute wait, we were shown to a 6 seater table. Perfect for us. We were presented with a selection of menus. We all chose from the Early menu. There was a special menu for, erm, what's the PC term today for people of retirement age, OAPs? But no one chose from this menu. For starters, 3 of us had the battered tiger prawns with chilli sauce and 2 had prawn cocktail. Everyone agreed - no complaints. Starters were tasty, not huge (just right size for a starter). As for the main course, 4 had cod and chips, with 1 awkward sod having haddock and chips. Again, food passed with flying colours. Tasty, well presented. No complaints. We all chose from the 'Early' menu. Two courses for £19. (Three courses £25.) Two of our group shared a pot of tea and two had a pint of beer. Wine was available. Everything was spotlessly clean. The toilet was immaculate. Layout of everything, tables, bar, toilets, etc. looked pretty much identical to pre -pandemic times. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Staff were (reasonably) efficient, helpful and attentive, without being annoying. Score out of 10? Probably an 8. It would have earned a 9 easily but for the following points. (Again, I stress I'm a grumpy old git.) 1. A pot of tea for 2 should, by default, include a separate pot of hot water. To their credit, we asked for a pot of water and it was brought immediately. 2. In a restaurant dedicated to fish and chips, it should not be necessary to request tomato ketchup. Again, to their credit, two pots of ketchup were supplied on request. But only 2 pots. For 5 people? A pot for each person should have been supplied, automatically. Fortunately ketchup was not supplied in little plastic pouches (ugh) which was a relief! 3. The menu should state explicitly and unambiguously that a serving of mushy peas is £2 extra. Alternatively, just include mushy peas or normal peas as standard and raise the two course price to £20, if needed. This caused a little confusion when paying for the bill but was settled amicably. To be fair, Graveleys has just recently reopened so minor teething troubles might be expected. And I am nit picking! I look forward to visiting Graveleys again soon. And I think my neighbours would agree.

Why oh why do chefs feel the need to soak dishes in cream, especially something such as smoked haddock and leak risotto which by nature is creamy enough and one orders it to try and be healthy? Had the £13 two course set lunch which is good value with a good choice. The smoked salmon was excellent and my wife's mussel dish was equally good with some nice crisp fries. All in all the place is very good and the fish and chips being served looked excellent. I find it hilarious that someone from Essex could be critical of Yorkshire fish and chips. Fair play to them they took the criticism of the risotto and did not charge me for it.

Went here while in Harrogate on business stop over - I love a good fish and chip sit down meal, and was quite looking forward to it. The restaurant on a Sunday night had three out of maybe 23 tables occupied. I order traditional haddock and chips with mushy peas. I don't like a lot of chips and told the lady that took my order .......the order came with lots of chips. The fish in its batter looked big. The bread and butter I ordered was forgotten. .I cut into the fish, which was nice, however there was more batter than fish. The mushy peas were served in a large pot and was way too much, they also were tasteless..I think this place relies on people coming to Harrogate for trade fairs etc, as I was.A few people had recommended this place - but under a previous name. I would not recommend it. Overpriced but mainly tasteless - not sure they care much either. Just going through the motions.

To describe Catch as a fish and chip shop, would be like describing Betty’s as a “greasy spoon”. It came highly recommended and it mostly lived up to the hype. It’s got a good location, on a street in Harrogate that has a lot of competitors, offering multiple cuisines. Catch has lots of attractive outside tables, which as we approach Autumn, may not be quite the draw. Sitting inside is no bad thing though. It is clean, modern but not without soul. The aroma’s from the fryer get the gastric juices flowing nicely. On our visit we were presented with a couple of menus. What could be called the main menu and a selection of alternative fishes on another. From this menu we both ordered Cod, which was served roasted and not coated with batter. My wife isn’t too fond of batter and if she does eat the more traditional fish and chips, spends most of her time pulling off the stuff. So full marks to Catch for offering fish prepared in a non-traditional way. The large(ish) chunks of Cod were beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. My wife had her Cod with all the trimmings but I was feeling really “fooded-out” after ten days of restaurant meals, so asked for the Cod just to be supplied with mushy peas - which it was. Full marks. We had a bottle of Gruner Veltliner with the meal, (excellent), which was another way that Catch rises above the standard “Chippy” mould - wine on offer.Desserts were OK but didn’t really match up to the main courses. I had something called a Strawberry Jam Fritter which wasn’t bad but was lacking in the prime ingredient - Strawberry Jam. Well there was jam in there but applied rather parsimoniously. Had some complained about it being too sweet? Whatever the reason, the jam was spread as thinly as Marmite. My wife moaned about a lack of fruit in her Knickerbocker Glory. She expected something along the lines of her youth, with a delicious mix of fruit salad, ice cream and whipped cream. Not bad but the fish was the star and not the average desserts. If you’re looking for a place that rises above the traditional “chippy” but costs less than a much more expensive, high-end fish restaurant - Catch should be your destination.

The restaurant and take away looked busy and so I was hopeful. We decided on a take away as parking seemed to be a challenge and although my order and money was taken after a few minutes the wait that followed was far from acceptable. Two members of staff serving with one focused on the Deliveroo orders and the other clearly inexperienced and not being helped by ‘chefs’ from the other side of the fryers taking prepared food from the counter including the chips as quickly as they were cooked. Eventually after 20 mins I had an apology for the delay (more than 30 mins in total) but still no sign of food as the deliveries and restaurant meals were being handed past me. When we did get our meal the order was wrong and the quality not good. Small fish in lots of batter, runny tasteless curry sauce and tepid chips. Staff not wearing masks and no screens. Not somewhere we will return to.

Visited on the last evening of our holiday in Harrogate. Decor of the restaurant is lovely - muted colours with a ‘hanging garden’ effect from artificial greenery. We dined early and the restaurant wasn’t busy. Efficient table service from very pleasant staff. We both ordered haddock, chips and mushy peas. It arrived quickly and looked huge, however looks were deceptive. The battered fish was mainly batter - and not very nice batter at that. The fish inside was very small, dry and pretty tasteless - there was a lot of airspace between the fish and the very thick, hard batter. My chips were ok, but my husband seemed to have a plate of chip-bits - like the fryer had been scraped out! Mushy peas served in a separate pot were fine, as was the tartare sauce. I was so looking forward to my dinner, but was disappointed. COVID measures: sanitizer was available on entry, staff not wearing masks.

We had monkfish, prawns and haddock. Monkfish was spicy and meaty. Prawns in crunchy tempura batter-yum. Haddock was haddock with chips, nothing left on our plates. Guest Ale was truly scrumptious. Good effort.

We dined on the covered terrace and the knowledgeable waiter gave good recommendations. We all really enjoyed the well prepared and unusual menu from an obviously skilful chef and we wouldn’t hesitate to return when next visiting Harrogate.

Great fish Restaurant with lovely staff and menu. You can get anything from fish and chips to oysters and shell fish. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the surroundings smart and modern. Wish we had something this good in Godalming, Surrey.

Anyone going here who were regulars at Graveley's will be very disappointed. £29 for haddock & chips plus 2 soft drinks. I wanted an apple juice but they were out of stock (lunchtime). The only other options for a fruit drink were orange, pineapple or cranberry. The fish was very nice but far too much batter, bitty chips and very greasey. 2 ladies left before ordering as they were obviously expecting the senior specials which are no longer available under the new ownership. I would not recommend and I will not be returning.

Originally visited this restaurant a few years ago and was impressed . The recent change in ownership has not affected the overall dining experience. As our visit was during Covid-19 restrictions we booked ahead for peace of mind but there was plenty of room to walk in on spec. The waiters were attentive, smart and polite and the food was very good. We also appreciated the very tasteful interior modern furnishings and corporate style decor and colour scheme. It is certainly an affordable reasonably priced eatery when compared with other more well known fish eateries in the Yorkshire region. Would recommend a visit both as a perfect lunchtime break or an evening treat as it is in a perfect central location amenable to all the other daily attractions Harrogate has to offer.Would have given 5 out of 5 if they had online offers and discounts to further encourage footfall with potential for regular customers.

Saw how busy this place was so decided to visit the following night (cancelled a reservation @ The Ivy to do so).The menu looked great, and we all the Monkfish wings (with the blue cheese sauce which was a strange combination) and crab and prawn nachos to start which was lovely and had the fish pie for mains. The glasses of wine were both quite warm which had to be replaced. My main grumble was the manager (I assume he was??) quite a large build chap dressed in all black was just very unfriendly and not particularly welcoming when we first arrived. He showed us to our table and just seemed off and he subsequently ignored me when I said goodnight at the end of the evening. The place evidently does employ a large number of young waiting staff, but he needs to be a far better role model to these other staff members (potentially he was having a bad night??) .I appreciate he may have had a manic night, but basic friendliness really are part and parcel of his role.Would happier have rated this place higher had he been more engaging.

Very disappointed. Fish and chips all precooked and dry. The same you would get at a take away fish and chip shop if you bought it in the middle of the afternoon when they are not busy and the fish and chips have laid there for ages. Awful.

Bought a take away fish and chips this evening and was taken back at the price! But thought it must be worth it so went ahead...Get back home to a dried up looking fish covered in cheap batter! If you are going to charge them kind of prices then the product needs to match! My advice to anyone... go to drakes in Starbeck or even the new one on chain Lane in Knaresborough! This place is crap.

My wife just bought takeaway fish and chips for us both. Was cold. Extremely disappointing. Never had a problem pre-change of ownership having used them for years. Whoever is in charge of basic standards must surely be asleep at the wheel sending out food in this cold condition? Wont be going back.

A fantastic meal and the staff were all outstanding. A beautiful fish pie for the boss and Sea Bass with monkfish pakora, rice and curry sauce for me. A 10 out of 10 from us and we'll be back next time we are in Harrogate.

A little pricier than other fish and chip restaurants but well worth it! The portion size was huge and the service was equal to the high quality food. Well done Catch !

Freshly cooked fish, chips and mushy peas. Batter was great, just the right thickness, crispy and not oily. Really nice staff too.

the lunch value midweek is terrific value - two courses for £25 and full of fresh and high quality fish . it has been a while since we have been but the traditional decor has been supplemented with more modern tables - friendly service and fine chablis and very good deserts a superb lunch

What a mistake I made when I decided to eat from here. The grey, dry fish was covered in the greasiest batter I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Not much could even be said of the cardboard chips. After a few brave attempts, I decided not to finish the self-inflicted torture. Also, I was very loose later that evening. Not a good experience. Giving a bad name to fish and chips. Disgusting.
