JR's Yorkshire Fish and Chips in Harrogate

Great as always!! Went there as I was coming for the first time in the UK. Three years later, in 2024 I went there again. Believe it or not it was one of the places I did remembered from my last trip. The taste was as great as the last time and the sauce he uses.... Don't know how he makes it but I just couldn't get enough of it!! See you next time guys!!

£11.00 for frozen fish & chips for one,skin on fish,lazy preperation,unsightly and not tasteful, chips frozen and hard,I reluctantly went here tonight, and can honestly say never again, family run,yes,business yes,but not a good food stop off,absolutely disappointed and ripped off,no no.

Fish and chip Friday! Turned up today not long after they opened for the evening shift. Parked up outside, went in, lovely welcome and our food was cooked freshly to order. We sat in, ate on the bench, truly beautiful crispy tasty batter over lovely flaky fish with chips. Plain sausage for the dog waiting patiently in the car. We will definitely return.

Good food, need to be open more often.

Sliver of fish (God I miss the 90s). You know that 'popcorn batter' on a steak of fish? Those days are gone. It's more like a loose crust on a plaice. Though they say its 'White fish' 70pc was millimeters thick. £7(take away trash) ,,,,, not again!

Just your typical fish and chips??? I ordered 2 fish cakes as I'm from the South and wasn't expecting Northern portions... home cooked and delicious, didn't need two due to their size but so yummy. Definitely recommend!

I visited this evening and ordered 2 Gyros. They absolutely amazing full of flavour and the sauce was perfect. I was served as soon as I came through the door and my food was fresh and just a short wait! The staff are professional lovely and always happy to help when I asked a question and wanted to add something to my order at minuets notice! I was greeted with smiles and left feeling satisfied with my food. I would definitely visit again and will definitely be telling my family and friends about this business it deserves the recognition!

Average fish. Had better. Queuing system needs signage better and you have to order fish so be prepared.

The best fish chips peas and curry I have had for a long time absolutely delicious... staff a bit unfriendly mostly interested in each other...but hey its the food that matters 😀 Tuesday 16th August...disappointed today the peas and curry where watery and the fish wasn't as fluffy, chips where good and the batter maybe just an off day. ..😒😏😥

Tonight after reading a lot about JR'S Yorkshire Fish & Chips Greek Gyros I thought I should take a walk down there, I'm certainly glad I did the staff were very pleasant & took my order for a Chicken Gyros, I have only ever been used to Pork Gyros in many parts of Greece before Athens, Corfu, Crete, Paros & Thasos but I needn't have worried it came with onions, tomatoes & homemade Tzatziki all served in a Greek Pitta bread, as much as I like a Doner kebab I find a Gyros much more palatable, I shall be visiting them again for another excellent meal & am really happy that there is another country's (be it only 1 dish) cuisine landed in Knaresborough, giving us a bit more diversity, anyway if you like a Gyros get down to JR'S Yorkshire Fish & Chips & have a little bit of Greece in your own home.

This the best fish and chips ever. Last year when I visited knaresborough i tried here and it was the best. This year the first thing i had is this fish and chips, still it stands best fish and chips. Especially the chicken nuggets Wow..

This is about JR'S fish shop in Normanton. What a disappointment the sauce's are watered down and you can tell the batter is very thin and disgusting last time I went in the batter was lovely and crispy and the sauce's was more gorgeous. i don't know what's gone on with this fish shop but I will not be going in it again as a customer and it's sad that they dont listen to customers when they try to give feedback. The 2 workers that are always in do everything so perfect and delicious and very well mannered. And in West Yorkshire we love our Yorkshire fish cakes and if they did start selling them for the RIGHT AMOUNT OF MONEY and made properly they would make more money.

We generally buy food from here once every week or two, and have done for the the past five or six years. In all this time I have never been disappointed. The team always provide a friendly service and the quality of fish and chips is up there with the best I’ve eaten. In my opinion definitely the best chip shop in Knaresborough / Harrogate.

Just called in for a sausage and chips..the chips were cooked to perfection didn’t feel at all greasy..lovely and hot and very very tasty.. Excellent covid precautions taken, clean premises and very friendly staff.. Keep up the good work all who work here..!

This is the best chippy I’ve found in this area ,,,went today and was dissapointed to be served re fried chips ....fish and batter as good as always , but chips had definitely been re heated , we’re very brown and dry . Please don’t do this , it spoiled my lunch

I was driving pass this shop on our way with my wife for a day trip in Knaresborough and decided to stop for some fish and chips! There is a parking outside so we had our food in the car! The fish was delicious and the chips crispy as we like them! The staff was very friendly and also very helpful when we asked where is best to go In Knaresborough! We will definitely stop again in our future visits in the area

Really disappointed with this meal & was looking forward to it after previous good reviews. We ordered two fish & chip dinners to takeaway & a scampi & chips. Upon returning back to our accommodation which was a 5 minute journey away we plated our meals & were extremely dissapointed! Both fish meals were the same....strangely flat, tough to eat not flakey & the fish was unevenly coated with batter. I say batter, however it was soft & not at all crisp!!!! Have only given it a rating of 2 as the chips were ok along with the scampi, but then it’s not very hard to mess up cooking scampi is it? Not recommended I’m afraid. Please see the attached photo of the fish which was promptly thrown in the bin with the other piece once the photo was taken.

We have had fish and chips on a regular basis from here,always hot always good fish and batter.well organized in the lockdown.

The staff that work there mainly a female named Jess has been sending round photos of the back of shop saying how she got in a mood and kicked it and left it over night and found it funny but there could be rats or anything with this behaviour she was also rude and just didn’t seem bothered when I did go in as a customer il still leave 5 stars because in the past it was great but just a heads up what’s going on whhen managers aren’t in

As a customer at the chip shop iv heard of racism toward one of the staff by another member of staff even going on a ought fighting and the manager trying to chat up one of the young staff members I have even heard them saying the oil hardly gets cleaned out all of this has added to my experience and I won't be back

Working away and this place was only down the road. Had small fish and chips with curry one day. It was really good! Only let down was the portion size but I did get small to be fair. The second day I got a deep fried cheeseburger which was interesting ha ha. Not a bad place tho would definitely go back.

Been to this chip shop for years and always rated it for generous portions. Got fish and chips on the 31/8/19 and was very disappointed with the size of my 6 inch long and 1.5 inch wide fish. They still charged me full price for half of a fish! With small fish before they used to double up, Not anymore!!! Will not be going there again!

I was really impressed with the fish n chips, they were really tasty, with white flaky fish. I dont usually like batter but i ate the lot. The chips where well cooked and lovely. I had irish curry sauce and again it tasted great. The staff were friendly and good value, no card machine so cash only but i was impressed with them n will happily go back again

Popped in on my way home from work to pick up some food for my wife and kids for tea and was recommended by a friend. As soon as I walked in my order was taken and the staff who were clearly busy were still friendly, polite and offered great customer service. Food was great, tasty and portions were generous. The kids and wife thought it was delicious too! Will definitely be back again soon.

Always hot fresh food! The two guys always friendly and really good service. Good prices and the kids meal is fun in the box with a drink, lolly and gift with a really good size portion!

The staff were very friendly and quick. Your order is taken as soon as you walk in the door. When your order is ready each one is wrapped in a polystyrene tray with lid then wrapped in a paper bag. The food is delicious. Generous portions of chips and the fish is cooked in a very delicate batter. The curry sauce was very tasty. Highly recommend.

Have been to JR'S chippy many times and have always found both fish and chips to be delicious. and with curry sauce even better. Really enjoy and have a hard job to find better.

Wet visited during our holiday in Harrogate, we ordered fish bites and chips to find out this was actually a fish cut into four or five and battered freshly, chips were well done just as we like, we never had better fish and chips, we only wish we could get them in Northern Ireland!
