We tour the country with dog shows. This is the best tasting and best value fish and chips on our tour. Freshly cooked to order. We look forward to it every year.

We recently visited southgate Fish & Chips in Ripon and I must say that it was exceptional . The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great fish and chips . We have recently visited the coast numerous times and havent found a chippy as good as this.”

Called here after being disappointed with other fish shops in Ripon, batter sticking to paper scrappy chips etc,ordered a regular & small cod & chips with peas for £13.50 and the sizes are generous plus they come in cardboard boxes rather than paper so no batter sticking to the paper! The fish was excellent nice golden batter perfectly cooked fish chips were excellent too no scrappy ones.Will definitely be back and can 100% recommend.

Another good reason why I moved to Ripon this fantastic fish shop. Visited for the first time this evening. My fish & chips were piping hot when I got home. I got a small portion so glad I didn't go for the medium as I struggled to finish them but I did 😉 Staff very pleasant. Definitely on my list for a repeat visit.🙂

Just a short drive outside of town center but easy access with road side parking and outside sitting area. The front service area is very neat and clean!! The cod is well cooked, the batter is light and crispy. The scampi kids meal is good value and tasty. The staff is friendly and efficient.

Not a good place fish was dry as if it had been frozen fish couldn’t eat my dinner

Great service everthing is cooked to order so it's really good quality food friendly staff didn't have to wait long even though there was a que theirs good offers like a big red is £16.99 and you get 2 large fish and chips and 1 large fish and you will be able to choose from either a large tub of curry or peas or gravy to go with the fish and chip your even able to phone up and order the food so you can just pick it up straight away and its always ready on time and it's hot and has just been cooked fresh for you which makes it even better if you are in a rush or have someone picking up the food for you Definitely recommend this fish and chip shop

Not very nice fish and chips at all. Expensive as well at £7 50p. Couldn't finish even though I was hungry. I don't think the fish was cod or haddock.

Really good local chippy we tired on the recommendation of the neighbors to a holiday cottage we were renting, a little out the way but we'll worth going to... Just be aware it closes fairly early

Fish had soggy batter took that off , fish was not bad throw chips away . Reviews were good may have hit a bad day but won't go back .

Never disappoints. Everyone argues about where to get the best fish and chips in town. It's here, isn't it? - you know it is really. Fish and chips is not my top choice, but this is good and it takes the edge off being overruled.

Very nice fish and chips however could taste the fat/oil they were cooked in. Reasonable portion and cooked to order.

Called here after passing a couple of times and noticed the “award winning fish and chips” banners outside. The takeaway was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and eager to greet us on entry. We asked for a large and a standard cod and were told they didn’t have any, they had only been open 15mins so they hadn’t ran out, just mustn’t have had any full stop. We had to opt for haddock, again I opted for the large (advertised as the house special) The wife chose fish cake as she doesn’t like haddock. The chips were very nice but the “large” haddock was the thinnest/flattest fish that I’ve ever had anywhere and for £8:35 to take away I was expecting so much more. I’d hate to see the small one, you’d need a magnifying glass!

Visiting Ripon and decided to treat ourselves to a fish supper. Trusted the reviews and had a nice meal at the side of the river laver with our fish and chips. All four of us enjoyed them.

We haven’t had a takeaway at all for all of lockdown and we really fancied fish and chips before I return to work next Saturday. We read online reviews of this lovely establishment and travelled specially over from Harrogate . Well worth the trip , spotless premises, beautiful outdoor seating area , it’s like being in a pretty garden although it was pouring down so we sat in the car. The staff were extremely friendly and observing social distancing and health and safety procedures and the fish and chips were amazing. We’ll definitely be back. My Brother lives in Scotland and always loves his Yorkshire fish and chips when he’s home, I’ll be pointing him towards Southgate Fisheries from now on , he’ll be delighted , and so were we !

I wouldn't miss my Friday fish and chips from Southgate for anything. Excellent and consistent quality - always freshly cooked. Just give your order when you arrive and it will be ready piping hot when you reach the head of the queue. Absolutely the best value is the "Fun-sized" (small fish and chips twice for under £7) In better weather yo can sit outside at comfortable tables.

Lovely fresh food cooked while u wait, outside seating, beautiful on a sunny day surrounded by potted plants, well looked after and very clean, staff very helpful, I had a fantastic fish supper.

We were delighted with the food and service from Southgate Fisheries last night at our Fish n Chip n Quiz evening. We had a large group of 70 and everything went like clockwork. The food was piping hot with all orders ready at the same time and we received so many compliments about the food. The owner gave us a really generous deal. Well done Southgate Fisheries and Thank You. We'll be back!

Delicious fish & chips we called at teatime with my husband & 3 grandchildren after a afternoon at near by Newby hall we sat outside on the picnic tables lovely tasting fish all enjoyed & they do small portions for the grandchildren who eat the lot.x

Always good. They do smaller a size which is great. I am a small person and have always had to throw the excess away. No waste now.

Never had a tastier fish and chips than from here. Chips are at least double cooked and the fish is always freshly cooked. You may wait a while but its worth it.

We were staying in the area and was having a drive about to find somewhere for some tea, we saw the sign at the end of the road saying Award winning fish and chips! So we arrived at 6.30 and wanted cod but they were completely sold out of cod, so had sausage in batter and chips instead. We sat on the benches outside and thoroughly enjoyed our chippy tea .. Hubbie loves chippy chips and can often be disappointed too soggy, too greasy, taste funny 🙄 but he actually said he thought they were the best his Ever had 🙀👍 Would definitely recommend. Thank you

I usually go to Drakes fish shop in Ripon ( which is excellent), but noticed a sign saying 'award winning fish and chips', while driving through a different part of Ripon so thought we would try it. The chips were really disappointing and didn't taste very nice at all and both my mum and l ended up throwing them away. Needless to say l will be staying with 'Drakes'.

I am often in Ripon and a visit to Southgate Fisheries is always a highlight. All fish freshly cooked to order, banter with staff and great prices. My mouth is watering writing this!

The best fish and chip shop in Ripon! Close your eyes and you could be in Whitby. Their deals such as "Little Ted", "Mr & Mrs" and our favorite "Fun Size" which is two smaller fish and chips for £6.75 (at time of writing) are excellent value. The smaller fish and chips is plenty for most folks.

Decent fish and chips but they close too early. I finish my shift at 8pm and rush over (5 minutes) to get chips before they close at 8.15. But, they’re often already closed when I get there 😔 The one time they actually were still open, the chips were cold and must have been sitting a good while.
