The George Country Inn at Wath is an absolute gem. Owners Paul and Keren genuinely care about their customers and take pride in running a great establishment. Keren handles the management brilliantly, while Paul shines as the head chef. The regulars are a cracking bunch, and the banter is always good natured and welcoming. The pub itself is spacious, tastefully presented, and has that cosy, warm vibe with wood burning fires that are always roaring. The food is top notch, whether it's a full three course meal or a choice from the tasty bar snacks. All in all, it’s hands down the best pub atmosphere in the area. Highly recommended!

I visited here in the Summer after passing by. Afterwards I remembered I had stayed in the village about 30 years ago so it was nice to be back. I had not booked but we were accommodated which was great as they were preparing for a gig night and most tables had been booked. The staff were very friendly. I enjoyed a delicious pizza and my husband had the fish and chips. Great to see a local family with kids enjoying their pizza and to know that it is kid friendly too. Hope to be back soon.

My husband and I recently stayed The George Country Inn for 4 wonderful nights. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by the licensee Paul, who took us to our spotlessly clean, very comfortable room. Breakfast was included in our stay, and the choices were excellent, and delicious. We also ate dinner at The George Country Inn twice during our stay, and like breakfast, the meal choice were wonderful, and the food delicious. The bar and restaurant staff were always polite and friendly, so all in all we had a very positive experience. We wouldn’t hesitate staying at the Inn again, nor would we hesitate in recommending it to anyone for a meal, overnight stay or both. Many thanks to Paul and his team.

We visited The George based in a recommendation from our hosts and we were not disappointed! Plenty of choices of meats and a mixed one for those that like a bit of everything; There's a veggie option too. Plenty of delicious veg, crispy roast potato’s and a perfectly cooked Yorkshire pudding. The service was perfect even though it was a busy Sunday and great value for money too. For those that care the Guinness is great too! Highly recommended, a little off the beaten track but well worth the visit.

Great chance find, booked another Ripon pub but the booking wasn't confirmed as needed 48 hours. Driving through to find a local place that did food and found this gem, I asked if they did a walk in for 3 and the bartender was more than happy to accommodate us. She was extremely happy person and really really nice. We got the Sunday dinner, one chocked, one beef and a mixed meat and it was amazing, portions were big enough with great Yorkshire pudding, only missing nah but I am sure they would have served it if we asked 😆 The puddings was incredible and loads of custard. I would highly recommend this for a lunch out.

Visited the George on Wednesday evening with two friends. We booked a table for 7 o’clock, were served our starters at about 7.30 and our main courses at about 8. We were too full for dessert and from then onwards were ignored, there was no offer of more drinks or coffees. We were all a bit surprised when the host started petulantly spraying tables next to us and noisily upturning chairs. This took about two minutes and surely could have waited till after we’d left? At 9 o’clock the lights were all switched on and the bill unceremoniously handed to us. We paid up and left. There was no “Thank you and good night” as we went, just a look that said “Good riddance.” We were all concerned that we had said or done something to offend them and because of that our evening was spoiled. The following day one of my friends rang to see what it was we’d done to upset them so much and was surprised to discover that they close at 9pm and that was the reason we were being hurried out. Why not just come over and explain that? It’s not a typical closing time and we were unaware of it. There was no apology for making us feel so uncomfortable, had there been I would not be leaving this review. There were two other groups in the bar area, presumably B&B guests. Were they ordered to their rooms at 9pm? The meal was fine, the decor was great but the welcome was neither.

It pains me to report that the current management have run this pub into the ground. No food is served, even thought their online profile would suggest otherwise. No effort is made with regards to being part of a close community. It is clear the management focus their efforts on the (other pub) “the black a moor” and have no business sense when it comes to the George at Wath. A pub is the heart of a small village, although we have tried to support this business, this appears to have gone unnoticed and unappreciated. Therefore I cannot recommend this pub and no longer will I support it.

I wad struck by how nicely presented the pub was, the early evening atmosphere was pretty good and staff most attentive. But why do "country" type pubs believe that it is fair game to charge 50p a pint more than the average Ripon prices. And £5.75 a glass of rose plus 40p for a splash of fizzy carbonated water is utterly scandelous. Why do pubs in village's think locals are fair game? Locals are and can be the heart beat of a village pub. Instead of my partner and myself visiting maybe 4 times a week, I will use this establishment sparingly. I wish these young people all the best in their endeavours'.

We have eaten at The George on a number of occasions. The staff are excellent -always very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food is superb and of high quality. They offer a very good value Sunday lunch/dinner which takes some beating. Definitely some of nicest roast beef and pork I've eaten. Their desserts are amazing - some have a twist on an old favourite, a big well done to the chefs. Highly recommended.

My partner had the beef and ale pie and I had the Steak dish. Absolutely cooked to perfection and presentation beautiful. Harrison, the chef, clearly has passion for his art and it was obvious in the delivery of his food. The service was excellent and nothing missed. Highly recommended for any occasion. Loved the rustic surroundings and the warm welcome.

We popped in as a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. I had the hazelnut and mushroom open lasagne, with a herb and flowers side salad followed by ginger cake and rhubarb and my other half, the sausages, bubble and squeak and onions, followed by the coffee pannacotta. All the food was delicious - the flower and herb side salad was quite unexpected, and truly delicious.I am really surprised this place was not busier on a Saturday night. The service was excellent.I would have preferred to sit in the smaller dining room, and my only (small) criticisms (being very picky!), were that the dining room we were in was a bit too light and bright, to be cosy, the covers on some of the chairs needed mending and that bar area needs some baffling as it sounds very echoey - only mentioned to be helpful! And to improve on what is an excellent place, with some great cookery.

We had lunch at the pub on a Saturday afternoon and thought the food was absolutely stunning and very well presented. Between us we had the fish and chips, the open topped pie, the venison and the pheasant - and we finished the lot! Harrison and his team are incredibly talented and I'd recommend trying the food before the George gets too famous and there are waiting lists to eat there ;-)

We were staying at the pub for the night so took advantage of the food available.I could not resist the crab, apple & ice cream starter which was lovely, the different elements complimented each wonderfully. For main I went for the pheasant dish & my wife wanted the bubble & squeak but didn't fancy the sausages so the chef spoke to her & kindly did pan fried chicken breast instead, both dishes were superb! We rounded the meal off by sharing cheese and biscuits. The food was excellent, both fresh and tasty - very deserving of the 2 AA rosettes. We were served by Ellie who was attentive and made us feel very welcome.

Early evening without a hotel confirmed I booked this hotel last minute. This time of year it is going to be quiet... The welcome was great, my booking was only 30 mins before arrival (as a result the room was cold) offered a free drink in the bar to allow the room to warm. The food (fish chowder) was light / tasty and well presented. Staff all helpful / friendly and room offered was very nice (maybe especially because the quiet time of year)Summary- very nice place. Good hosts, good rooms, good food, very quiet.....zzzzzAnd not expensive

We had been out & about & were hungry so popped in here as we had eaten here before & enjoyed it. Didn't know it had been recently taken over. The young chap who served us was very pleasant & confident & the lady owner very pleasant. The food, though tasty was cold, the presentation was okay but a bit colourless, no green veg, all white & orange, never had a Sunday lunch without a green veg to brighten up the plate so it looked a bit strange. Shame because it was tasty, but maybe a bit more veg & no potato other than a couple of roasts so were still a little hungry!

Although living relatively local this was our first visit. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff, the pub is very tastefully decorated. Food was amazing and stunningly presented - almost looked too good to eat! Will definitely be back again and recommending it to others, thank you very much.

Stayed overnight at The George and ate dinner in the restaurant. Friendly staff, excellent service and lovely ambiance. Food imaginative, high quality and beautifully presented. Under new ownership and management who definitely know where they plan to take their business. We would certainly visit again.

Hugely disappointed to arrive for lunch on Friday at 1.45pm only to be turned away by the chef. The website advertises that lunch is served 12-2.30 but when we arrived we were told that all that they were only prepared to offer sandwiches. Not what we'd had in mind when we were planning a nice lunch out.Really disappointed given the menu looked interesting and the reviews are otherwise good. I doubt we'll hurry back given the frustration of having gone out of our way to try it out. It'd be more helpful if they stated on their website that they're not open for lunch or that pre-bookings are required...

We recently had the pleasure of staying at “The Cud Life” campsite in the stunning Yorkshire countryside, this campsite offers the perfect blend of tranquility, natural beauty, and good facilities. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The site itself is well maintained and most important quiet, with spacious pitches. Whether you’re pitching a tent, parking a campervan, or staying in one of their cozy cottages, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay. The shower blocks are clean with plenty of hot water. But what truly sets *The Cud Life* apart is the people. A special shout-out to Mark, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. His friendliness and genuine enthusiasm were infectious! He was always on hand to offer helpful tips about the local area and recommended some good sights to visit. Mark’s kindness and dedication truly made this a memorable stay. If you’re looking for a campsite that combines natural beauty, good facilities, and a warm, welcoming vibe, “The Cud Life” is the place to be. And if you’re lucky enough to meet Mark, you’ll understand why this place feels so special. We will return one day! Highly recommended!

Last weekend, we were recommended to try Vanilli’s Artisan 🍨at Harrogate– and it was incredible! We tried the Oreo & Vanilla and the Salted Caramel & Belgian Chocolate – which really amazed me because the combination of rich Belgian chocolate and sweet-salty caramel was magic. They also have dairy-free options, soya, coconut, sorbet.🍧 Vanilli’s is tucked away in a quiet corner, it’s a hidden gem you’ll want to find. Get there early though , especially on the European Artisanal Gelato Day on 24 March– flavours sell out fast! By fishenjoylife

Our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. On entering we were met by every seat in the house taken with ours waiting for us by the pass. Very attentive and friendly yet professional staff. There is a limited but also comprehensive menu covering all tastes. The wine list being very similar in its extent. The food was to die for and I’ve found a new favourite wine too. At £110 per couple including wine and our tip, I thought it was very good value for the quality of food and service.
