The best peri peri chicken wings in the UK so far... well done guys! Update 22 September 2024: Just had the most amazing Sunday lunch (roast) at the George with good friends from overseas. So impressed with the quality of the roast and trimmings and the Rhubarb crumble was fantastic. Good value for the portion size too. Well done guys keep it up.

I visited the George Country Inn for a meal with my wife. The menu choices are fantastic, and the food was delicious and portions generous. The staff are friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Situated on Wath High Street both access and parking is easy. I would highly recommend this venue for a visit.

Great chance find, booked another Ripon pub but the booking wasn't confirmed as needed 48 hours. Driving through to find a local place that did food and found this gem, I asked if they did a walk in for 3 and the bartender was more than happy to accommodate us. She was extremely happy person and really really nice. We got the Sunday dinner, one chocked, one beef and a mixed meat and it was amazing, portions were big enough with great Yorkshire pudding, only missing nah but I am sure they would have served it if we asked 😆 The puddings was incredible and loads of custard. I would highly recommend this for a lunch out.

Booked an overnight stay because of some good reviews. What a find! The room was compact, but very clean, comfortable and newly refurbished. The food was a very pleasant surprise; good quality ingredients cooked by someone who cares what food tastes like. Will definitely be back for Sunday lunch. Wath is only 5 mins from the A1 so a much better option than a service station!

Had 2 nights here on the 19th and 20th of April 2024. Right from the start, our host and staff were very friendly and welcoming. Couldn't do enough for us. Our room was of a high standard and really homely. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding. There was a tapas night on our first night, which we had. Very good food at a reasonable price and the service was great. Breakfast was included in our stay and was the best full English breakfast I've had in years. Great service again and very good quality ingredients. The pub itself was very nicely decorated. Modern and comfortable with a nice atmosphere. Every member of staff was very friendly and happy to chat. We highly recommend this place and will definitely stay here next time we're in the area.

Then the cider belly pork with crackling and black pudding: melt in the mouth pork, crispy crackling, really tasty. But I’m going to give a special shout out to the lemon posset. Best I’ve ever had. Visited the George on Wednesday evening with two friends. We booked a table for 7 o’clock, were served our starters at about 7.30 and our main courses at about 8. We were too full for dessert and from then onwards were ignored, there was no offer of more drinks or coffees. We were all a bit surprised when the host started petulantly spraying tables next to us and noisily upturning chairs. This took about two minutes and surely could have waited till after we’d left? At 9 o’clock the lights were all switched on and the bill unceremoniously handed to us. We paid up and left. There was no “Thank you and good night” as we went, just a look that said “Good riddance.” We were all concerned that we had said or done something to offend them and because of that our evening was spoiled. The following day one of my friends rang to see what it was we’d done to upset them so much and was surprised to discover that they close at 9pm and that was the reason we were being hurried out. Why not just come over and explain that? It’s not a typical closing time and we were unaware of it. There was no apology for making us feel so uncomfortable, had there been I would not be leaving this review. There were two other groups in the bar area, presumably B&B guests. Were they ordered to their rooms at 9pm? The meal was fine, the decor was great but the welcome was neither.

We came here for two nights, to enjoy some walks around Fountains Abbey and explore the peaceful area. The pub is on a road in a pretty, quintessential English village ( more of a Hamlet really, houses, pub and a church, no shop) The George is beautifully decorated throughout, modern but cosy, with the attention to detail impressive. With friendly staff, tasty pub food, beautifully presented, it certainly is value for money! Bar is only open late afternoon, hours clearly stated on website. It pains me to report that the current management have run this pub into the ground. No food is served, even thought their online profile would suggest otherwise. No effort is made with regards to being part of a close community. It is clear the management focus their efforts on the (other pub) “the black a moor” and have no business sense when it comes to the George at Wath. A pub is the heart of a small village, although we have tried to support this business, this appears to have gone unnoticed and unappreciated. Therefore I cannot recommend this pub and no longer will I support it.

Visited The George for some food last week on a Thursday evening. The food was really good, home made and freshly cooked. Three out of the four of us braved the sharing platter, usually a sharing platter is adequate for one, it consisted of fish goujons, black pudding fritters and camembert Cheese...they were amazing and only £12 each although here comes the warning...they need to be shared!! The drinks were great too, good selection of Gins with Fevertree tonics, Cruzcampo lager or Amstel and two or three beers. It is a family run business which creates a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit and deserves top marks.

However there were another couple and a group of five also dining. The food was ok but swimming in gravy. We both ordered a roast dinner, chicken and a beef. Having been a supporter of local businesses and more particular pubs. I eas most encouraged when moving into Wath to find a potentially good local. On bringing the family for a couple of early evening drinks and maybe some food. I wad struck by how nicely presented the pub was, the early evening atmosphere was pretty good and staff most attentive. But why do "country" type pubs believe that it is fair game to charge 50p a pint more than the average Ripon prices. And £5.75 a glass of rose plus 40p for a splash of fizzy carbonated water is utterly scandelous. Why do pubs in village's think locals are fair game? Locals are and can be the heart beat of a village pub. Instead of my partner and myself visiting maybe 4 times a week, I will use this establishment sparingly. I wish these young people all the best in their endeavours'.

We popped in as a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. I had the hazelnut and mushroom open lasagne, with a herb and flowers side salad followed by ginger cake and rhubarb and my other half, the sausages, bubble and squeak and onions, followed by the coffee pannacotta. All the food was delicious - the flower and herb side salad was quite unexpected, and truly delicious.I am really surprised this place was not busier on a Saturday night. The service was excellent.I would have preferred to sit in the smaller dining room, and my only (small) criticisms (being very picky!), were that the dining room we were in was a bit too light and bright, to be cosy, the covers on some of the chairs needed mending and that bar area needs some baffling as it sounds very echoey - only mentioned to be helpful! And to improve on what is an excellent place, with some great cookery.

The young chap who served us was very pleasant & confident & the lady owner very pleasant. The food, though tasty was cold, the presentation was okay but a bit colourless, no green veg, all white & orange, never had a Sunday lunch without a green veg to brighten up the plate so it looked a bit strange. Shame because it was tasty, but maybe a bit more veg & no potato other than a couple of roasts so were still a little hungry!

Not what we'd had in mind when we were planning a nice lunch out.Really disappointed given the menu looked interesting and the reviews are otherwise good. The bar was small and a little noisy due to a private function taking place, so unusually noisy. Food more than made up for it.Look forward to visiting again.

A warm welcome on arrival. Lovely and very comfortable en suite room, large enough to accommodate our 2 Border Collies. The village of Wath is very handy for the Cathedral town of Ripon, Fountains Abbey & Studley Gardens for some great walks.Dining, from the hearty breakfast to the evening dinner was excellent with a varied menu.First time I tried squid ink risotto, and it was a delight. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Interested in where you'd been for the day and loved our dogs!We would certainly return to The George if we were back in the area.

We booked an over night stay and evening meal and breakfast for our sons pass out parade. Before our journey to the George, I rang to find out the postcode. I was met with a very rude (yet well spoken) man who told me i wasn't booked in there at all and he knew that because they only take bookings for 6 or more. Whilst trying to explain to him that we were in fact booked, he interrupted me saying, and i quote, "be quiet madam and let me speak." Really rude! This issue was sorted and he in found our booking. No apology. When we arrived, we were greeted by the manager who was so lovely. He was extremely helpful and even offered to take my husband and I in to Harrogate. The bus stop is literally across the road and was only around £6pp return so we did that. In the evening we were joined by family members who were also staying over. We had a beautiful carvery which catered for everyone. The chef and waitresses were so polite and friendly that we forgot about how the day began. Afterwards, we had drinks in the bar and played some pool in the games area until late. The rooms were very cosy and well decorated. Our only issue with the room was the shower that did nothing more than a trickle. We were told that breakfast was between 7:30 and 10am which would have been perfect as we had to leave by 9am for the parade and a full english is what we needed before the long day ahead. Unfortunately, when we went down for breakfast at 8am, the place was dark with no staff anywhere. After packing our things up, we tried again at 8:40am and this time the dining hall was open but we were told we couldn't have the cooked breakfast as it wouldn't be ready in time. Not exactly what you want to hear so we left with tea and toast. All in all, The George is lovely and i would recommend it to friends.

We visited here last night and had a wonderful evening! We found all the staff welcoming and polite and the pub itself is warm and cosy. The food was absolutely stunning! You can really tell the chef has put a lot of love and effort in to what he produces. I really wish Harrison and his team all the luck in the world as it is obvious to me that they deserve it. We can't wait to visit again soon!

We visited the George on a recommend to us for a Birthday treat. Our meal was fantastic and very well priced. The new owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We also noticed that they do a steak night for two with a bottle of wine for £30 which looked to die for. This restaurant is a must for any occasion. I guarantee that you won't be dissapointed.

We called in for a drink which led to 3 or 4 drinks. Harrison was kind enough to make us up a Cheese board even though he had finished serving food. Three different cheeses which were all really nice, also nice to have something different rather than the usual cheddars. It would be an ideal bar snack for those not wanting a full sit down meal. Highly recommend a visit.

We visited the George for a family Sunday lunch. We had our four legged friend, so say in the bar for lunch which was nice. Food was delicious, and presented beautifully. I would personally recommend the roast beef and sticky toffee pudding. Yummy!! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will return!

On 2 night business stay, dined in both evenings. On Saturday, the bar was buzzing and the atmosphere was pleasant. V good pea and parmesan risotto, chicken salad and stupendous fish and chips. The ingredients were fresh and expertly handled. A good range of local beers on tap, also fine wines.

Expensive and poor value for money. The carvery is £9.95 and nowhere near as good as a lot of carvery's at £4.50

A warm welcome, great service and very tasty food. I had the shakshouka today which I only photographed half way through! Both eggs beautifully runny and the tomato sauce was delicious.

I have just read the managers new reply. OMG, shocked. I think the tone and the fact that my mobility issue had to be on show for all to see is an insult. As we were offered a short low down bar stool as my wife has mobility issues. Lady who showed us in, then didn't seem happy we were not accepting the stools. She took us back outside to wait outside the door and told us we would have a long wait and asked us to wait until the table came free. NOT THE QUEUING PROCESS that was the problem. It was how we were spoken to and treated because we didn't accept what was offered. Lady talked to us like a school mistress, then pointed and was aggressive at one point all because i moved to look in the shop window and away from the queue point she had placed us at. We were not there to be spoken to like naughty school children, so we left. All because we weren't standing in the right spot outside, whilst only us were there. Raised with the manager who seemed to think her attitude was OK, as does the owners reply to my review, not exactly a professional reply, just excuses for poor customer service. Shame as I was taking my husband there for the first time and with a wedding in mind for an outfit, as it came highly recommended. Will be sharing my experience with others. My advice avoid as they might have great food, their customer service wasn't great, and the owners' reply is not accepting perhaps they got it wrong. DISAPPOINTING 😞

Wish i could leave 50 stars! Beautiful quiet and peaceful campsite with beautiful views of the countryside and surrounded by cows and sheep. Tanya is lovely to deal with and Mark who manages the site is an absolute legend. He's friendly, knows loads about the area and goes out of his way to make sure everyone has a great time There are only 2 loos and showers on site (both unisex) but with such a small site we didn't have to wait at any time. The showers are great, no button to keep pressing and adjustable temperature. There's a baby change unit, hairdryer and straighteners. Fridge outside with an honesty box for local produce, and a wonderful cookery equipment shop which also sells amazing cakes Bus stop not too far away and absolutely loads to see and do in the area 100% going to be returning
