Lovely country pub with lots of atmosphere. Food was delicious & well presented. All staff were very friendly & helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Sandra exceeded her hospitality & made us most welcome. Would highly recommend this pub for food & drinks. We will Definately return again. Thank you.

Our company has been going here for our Xmas meal for the last 10 years and we have always been happy with the service and the food. This year - WOW what a difference!!!! Staff - rude, slamming plates down on the table, throwing serviettes on the table and they all seemed cheesed off and not happy in their work. We paid corkage of £15 per bottle of our own wine which would have been acceptable had the staff done their job and served the wine at the table! Food - outstanding as always but the staff did not compliment the hard work and commitment of the kitchen. Venue - the large dining room at the rear where we always dine was freezing cold. The fire had been put on as we entered the dining room and the heating was off. We all ate in jackets and made a quick exit to the bar once we had finished our food. Accommodation - very nicely decorated but so very cold with no heating. Cleanliness of the rooms was awful - cobwebs in every corner (room 8) and the bathroom too. Broken tap on the bath added to the frustration. Breakfast - again the food was very good but the staff were rude, did not answer when spoken to and again food was delivered with a directness not expected after a stay at the pub. Needless to say, this will be the last time we go to the Greenman in Fownhope which is a great shame. We spent over £800 for our meal and was expecting a warmer reception with better service to compliment the good food, sadly this did not happen. Come on Greenman it wouldn’t take much to turn this round if you have the incentive to do so!

Food was lovely, but service that night a bit hit and miss. Mixed up orders for starters resulting in a long wait for some party members and staff trying to clear starters before everyone had finished and as a result, mains probably stayed on the pass - steaks were warm not hot. Quiet night in the restaurant and had to go to the bar to request the bill as staff seemed otherwise occupied.

The perfect English pub! This secluded place in the centre of the Woolhope Dome is in a unique location, too, as geologists and geographers will appreciate. The food and the service were friendly and excellent. The atmosphere inside is the epitome of the classic English pub. The views from the front are lovely. Approach it from the west on the narrow road over the hills and through the fairy-tale-like Haugh Wood. The Crown Inn and Woolhope are worth a trip to visit their own right.
