Food was lovely, but service that night a bit hit and miss. Mixed up orders for starters resulting in a long wait for some party members and staff trying to clear starters before everyone had finished and as a result, mains probably stayed on the pass - steaks were warm not hot. Quiet night in the restaurant and had to go to the bar to request the bill as staff seemed otherwise occupied.

We had a most excellent stay at the Greenman from start to finish. As National Trust members it was a great location for visiting. The food was cooked to perfection & wonderfully presented. The accommodation was spotless & the public areas had great character. The general manager was most approachable & very warm as were her team during our stay but we feel we must mention George, Andy & Kerry who really did make our stay the best. We will definitely be returning.

This is a lovely old building. As mentioned by another reviewer the garden would be fine but is ruined by an industrial extractor fan which is so noisy it ruins what would be a peaceful garden. We stayed for one drink and won't be back.

Went for a family wedding, all went well was beautifully decorated with flower boxes, nice gardens plenty of parking. Food was good at the wedding dinner. Our room was OK except a few places I thought the floor boards were rotten and felt as if it was going to give way. Bathroom and shower looked beautiful only thing we couldn't get any hot water so no shower during our stay wasn't happy about that, did complain but just got a blank look and a sorry nothing done about it. Breakfast was supposed to be 7.30 till 9.30. We went down at eight and the breakfast wasn't put out till nine. Bacon was good and sausage and mushrooms, but I'm afraid the mushy scrambled egg was horrible everyone was saying in our party would I stay again NO

Nice evening meal out with our friends, friendly staff. Next time we would know to order extra veg as the vegetables served with the main meals were more for decoration than a balanced meal. Otherwise a perfect evening.

Excellent Sunday roast, beef was superb, the place is old and full of character, service very good, lovely garden area too, will be back thank you!

We had a table booked for Sunday lunch and after reading some of the previous negative reviews we were looking forward to seeing for ourselves what The Green Man had to offer. We were not disappointed, the venue is in a great location and has plenty to offer with a lovely garden. The staff were all friendly and attentive, the roast beef was delicious with plenty of fresh veg and extra horseradish when requested. There were three ales on tap, we tried the Butty Bach and the Atomic Blond both of which were brewed by Wye Valley Brewery and were both bright and tasty. Overall a very enjoyable Sunday lunch which I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

We didn’t have dinner here as we had a very late lunch sadly. Just had the most delicious smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, great espresso coffee, brought to us by Ceri, charming young lady who looked after us very well. Loved the room!!!!! Not a great experience. The building itself is a charming oldie worldie structure, but it feels tired and like it needs some TLC. We booked food for 7.15pm. It is pretty expensive and the menu is limited. Cheapest bottle of wine was c.£26 (remember it is a pub at the end of the day). We eventually got served our food over an hour later. They did explain they had a big party in and as a result, a fair amount of the menu had sold out (including what we both wanted). They did automatically discount the bill, which is fair enough. The customer service was mixed. It was ok in the evening. However, at breakfast the young lad was pleasant enough. The lady, however, barely spoke to us, let alone a ‘good morning’. No explanation of breakfast or where anything was. You order your hot food the night before, but there is a table set out for cereal and juice etc. in the adjacent room. However, unless you’re informed, you wouldn’t know. We took our lead from others in the room and eventually found the set up. No bread or juice had been restocked, so I had to ask the lady. No response or polite acknowledgment given whatsoever, although she did refill it I guess, so a win there. My feelings started with not wanting to bother them too much, to then becoming more irritated with the complete lack of acknowledgement or politeness. Anyone would think they were doing me a favour. The room was pretty standard. However, there was an intermittent loud raking type noise throughout the night. No idea what it was but it was horrible, resulting in a disturbed night sleep. Won’t be back.

Went to the Green Man for my niece’s Christening. The venue was lovely with our own function room. The staff were really friendly and I would like to make a special mention to Gemma for her amazing hospitality. I felt she went the extra mile to ensure that everyone had a great day.

We stopped in the middle of a very long journey for some dinner. Greeted nicely and went into a lovely cosy bar with a very welcome roaring fire. We loved the decor and ambience, also the warmth. Dinner was ok, but was luke warm. We found the portions small and not good value money. Businesses charging £20 for a roast dinner need to ensure their customers leave feeling it was money well spent. Staff we encountered were friendly and very polite, which is always appreciated, so thank you to them for their good service. Whoever is in charge of maintaining the car park needs to be aware how dangerous it is. No lights (so it was pitch black walking to car) and a massive pot hole where had my partner not caught me, I would have fallen and had a nasty injury. On balance, we probably would stop again for drinks by the fire, but not for food because of the value for money aspect.

We have just come back from a 1 night stay here, from start to finish it was absolutely lovely. Room spotless, the whole place was so charming and cozy, lovely and warm. We had a lovely man recommend the lamb, and it was perfect. Breakfast absolutely lovely, couldn’t have wanted more from a hotel, and we have stayed in many!! We also made it to get fuel as the staff gave us a route plan to the nearest fuel station as we were running low. As for the comments on the other posts to the creaky floorboards…. It’s an old charming inn, if you dint want crazy floorboards stay in the premier inn! Thankyou all. Amazing, and will return!!

I find it difficult to get over first impressions . So when trying to check in , being met buy a surly woman who was more intent on cleaning the coffee machine than acknowledging me it was an uphill struggle from there . However when I later asked to change rooms because me wife had difficulty negotiating the staircase a different young man was polite ,helpful and sorted me out ,no problem . The room was pleasant enough if you ignore the cobwebs festooned above the bed .The rest of the room and bathroom was spotless. Breakfast was ok but not excellent black pudding no more than 2mm thick rendering it hard and tasteless bacon even thinner and left for ages in a warmer again rock hard ,good sausage though . As a direct result of the breakfast we chose not to risk an evening meal ,shame that . The conclusion is nice characterful hotel with good and bad staff.Missing a trick by trying to save a quid or two at breakfast .

Stayed here as I have done a few times due to travelling but it was too noisy. I could unfortunately hear every snore and more from the room back to back with me and I was honestly exhausted from travelling and attending a family funeral. Food is 5* staff are 5* but sleep is 2* on this occasion.

Visited with my youngest child on the off chance we would get a light lunch on a Friday. I had scallops and he had mac n cheese. As a connoisseur of mac n cheese he said it was the best he’s ever tasted! Great meal, attentive staff, value for money in a beautiful setting. Will visit with the rest of the family again soon.

A gang of us locals, about 20 of us, all from Fownhope, who support The Greenman regurlary, we’re turned away on Saturday 9th December. We were all stood outside clapping a convoy of 90 tractors, all decorated in festive Christmas cheer. Decided to all go and have a drink, or two in our local, to be turned away, as a private wedding on, with NO SIGNAGE to let us all know this. We all congregated to The New Inn and all stayed for an evening of festive cheer. The Greenman - you need to sort your act out. Us locals are your bread and butter

Turned up on spec on a Tuesday and were met by friendly staff who fitted us in with no issues. Know the pub well but hadn't been for some time so nice to see its reatined all the cosy black and white "pubiness". Good welcome, good meal and lovely surroundings. Nice atmosphere with Christmas closing in. Happy to recommend and would visit again

Turned up at 6:50 as the website said last admission was 7pm, this was incorrect and we sat there for ages and it was really chilly Last entry was 7:30 The venue was lovely and festive and the Welsh lady singer was really good we danced a lot this helped us to keep warm The food was awful….. it was a boring beige buffet limited to meat sandwiches everything on cheap brown bread, pork pie, strange highly flavoured sausages, shop bought quiche slices, shop bought sausage rolls and a bowl of chips One member of our party was vegetarian so all she could have was a few chips and a tiny slice of quiche, so very poor value for money. I mentioned this to the chap who seemed to be in charge and he just said “we like our meat here!!” No salad garnish or any attempt to make it look appetising. The drinks were London prices so be prepared …… £10:95 for a large glass of wine Only one person behind the bar so took 20 mins to get a drink Green man you need to think more carefully about your events…… not good value for £22

Walked in just after 7pm on the off chance of a table for two. It's Friday night so we appreciate it'll probably be busy, but no harm in asking surely? Apparently not if you're the older gentleman - the owner / licensee I presume - who we had the misfortune to encounter. "What now? No chance!" Is it too much to expect "I'm sorry, we're fully booked tonight"? Manners cost nothing after all. Luckily we carried on across the car park to what seems to be deservedly the no.1 rated pub in the village where they greeted us, seated us and fed us. The new owners of the Green Man could perhaps learn a bit about hospitality.
