Unique and beautifully inviting pub in tranquil countryside which we stumbled across too late for anything more than one moonlit glass in the pub garden. Welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable landlord who knows how to keep and pull a great pint so we will definitely, definitely, definitely return when we have a whole day/weekend/week to sample some more of their wonderful hospitality

We stayed a couple of nights mid October (Two of us & a plus one - labrador) . Cannot fault the place. Excellent staff, stunning meals (dinner & breakfast). A perfect place to unwind. Morning sun-rise walks across neighbouring fields (well sign-posted footpaths). I only wish there were more customers. Hopefully not another example of 'use it, or lose it'. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

Put aside the minor-celebrity connections and take this place for what it is - a perfect blend of tiny inn, gastropub and locals hangout. Our stay was for two nights giving us the chance to take in the countryside and visit the cathedral at Salisbury. We were lucky with the weather which gave us the opportunity to enjoy the pub garden while the locals chatted at the bar. The food was tremendous (I recommend the cod or the duck). We had breakfast on both days in the oak room which is a great place to start your day. A special mention should go to the room’s shower (we stayed in the Wardour Room) which was astounding.

Nice lunch but sadly we were the only people in the pub and so no atmosphere. The food was good and simple fare. Would go again for that. The waitress was helpful but seem eager to rush away everytime we ordered anything. This seemed surprising as there wasn’t anyone else there. The landlady seemed really fed up and was full of negative stories about the trade at her pub and the area. Didn’t give a good impression sadly.

A beautiful little cafe hidden in the Chalke Valley. Tucked away behind the shop they serve a great choice of local cakes and coffee. The Dorset Apple Cake is a firm favourite. The service is amazing, always friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm. I would return anytime.

Friendly, welcoming, very helpful staff. I came to scout out the venue as I'd heard about the car meets they host & wanted to check accessibility. Courtyard/carpark is compacted gravel, thus wheelchair friendly & there is a ramp (complete with signs asking patrons not to block it with bicycles). Car parking is within a few metres of the door. I will definitely be back!

The roasts were ok but the puddings were so disappointing that I don’t think we’ll be back. The server over-sold the ‘special’ which was a white chocolate bread and butter pudding. It was awful - cold (you’d have thought she might have mentioned that), a watery berry compote and no crème anglaise as promised. The second, a cheesecake was only average. The chef obviously has skills but why try to mess about with the puddings (deconstructing cheesecake and serving solid cold B&B pud) The second Butcombe pub in a row that has been a disappointment so probably best not to try another.

Super nice small hotel, a perfect stop between London and Cornwall. There is small pub as well which we didn't have the chance to experience as we arrived late, but looked super cute. The yummy homemade cookies and the tea in the room is super nice touch

Love Z Hotels They have Sky which is great It’s tiny but got everything you need Slightly hard beds but it’s fine Be comfy with your partner as toilet and shower is not too private. But clean, brilliant and fun!

After suffering a mechanical whilst out riding the green lanes of Dorset my friend and I found ourselves stranded in the rain whilst a third member undertook the 2 hour round trip to get a rescue van. We looked for the nearest refuge and came across the Talbot Inn only a couple of miles away. After a tiring and wet push we arrived at 14.40 to a wonderful warm welcome from Venetia. Not only were we welcomed in and given excellent hospitality, but her and Son Theo (budding biker and rugby star) allowed us to remain long after the 15.00 closing time awaiting rescue. The food menu looks fantastic and a better experience we could not have wished for. I will be returning with my family (including Leo, budding biker and rugby star of similar age to Theo) for a Sunday roast in the near future. Thank you Venetia and Theo, you really saved the day. All the best Carey
