Nice lunch but sadly we were the only people in the pub and so no atmosphere. The food was good and simple fare. Would go again for that. The waitress was helpful but seem eager to rush away everytime we ordered anything. This seemed surprising as there wasn’t anyone else there. The landlady seemed really fed up and was full of negative stories about the trade at her pub and the area. Didn’t give a good impression sadly.

Chose this place as the reviews seemed good . When we arrived an elderly lady seemed to be propping up the bar , slouched reading a paper and feet on another. She pointed at us to take a seat and to what seat we had to occupy without getting up herself Waitress approached soon after , not wearing a mask at all but stood so far away we almost had to raise our voices . Wine arrived and placed at the edge of our table and we had to stretch over to retrieve as the server left . We realised they were PLASTIC goblets . Ok , not a huge deal but nevertheless odd for a high rated restaurant. Meals subsequently followed and to our horror were served on a paper plate and our WOODEN cutlery and sachets of sauces left at the end of the table as the server scarpered. We didn’t want to make a fuss but had to leave most of the meal as we couldn’t actually cut into the food ( apart from the veg which was so overcooked it fell apart) The most ridiculous part was as we were done and having had declined a sweet , server returned with a bin sack and asked US to dispose of everything on our table due to COVID precautions! Unbelievable. I assume this place does not have a dishwasher therefore would not recommend and would not return.

Met family for Sunday lunch today - very impressed with the thought that has obviously gone into opening in the current covid climate. Well organised in a way that made us all feel really relaxed. Excellent roast, delicious puds and lovely staff. Definitely recommend, dog friendly too and outdoors but under cover so no problem if it rains (as it did today!)

Went for lunch outside in the beautiful garden at the V&A yesterday and, with the Covid 19 regulations fully enforced, were well looked after by the staff. The food, as always, was excellent as were the range of drinks available. This is a lovely country pub just outside Salisbury. It is quite small and has a low ceiling with beams so looks really quaint. There was a good selection of food, but a tad expensive for my budget. However, would be happy to go there again. The only down side is there is very little parking so I had to park down the road.

What a wonderful little gem of a traditional village pub to find after a long trip from France to Portsmouth. We received a fabulous welcome and the food was delicious, a Mediterranean quiche, salad & chips for the vegetarian (vegan) & a no quibble, swap my rice for chips please, beef Stroganoff for the meat eater. The food was superb and the portions a good size, the beer great & a nice range of wines to choose from. We cannot recommend this lovely pub more highly. We will return when we can.

We were camping locally but due to the weather on the Friday night we opted to finding this little local pub to keep out of the bleak weather. It is a warm and welcoming pub with games and newspapers, lots to look at around the room. Regulars are very welcoming also. After speaking with them for quite some time they noted that we had forgotten torches and my boyfriend had forgotten to pack a coat, they offered us fleeces and torches to borrow for the whole weekend and this was a great help! Amazing service and would highly recommend.

Called in “on spec” as our hotel restaurant was having problems with their kitchen equipment, forcing us to find an alternative. The pub is a nice little place; thatched roof and cosy atmosphere. Dog friendly too. The food was delicious and properly prepared. However, the young girl who took our order and subsequently served our food and drinks was, between times, unable to stop constantly either wiping her nose with her hands, touching her face and, on two occasions, sneezing into her hands without then washing her hands before serving food and delivering drinks. Being concerned about hygiene we felt uncomfortable and left early, although our original intention was to spend more time there. We feel sad about having to mention this, but it was not pleasant to see. Where food and drinks is concerned, good hygiene is all.

We basically just stopped for lunch after previously seeing a sign pointing to the location, and was not disappointed. The pub was nearly full, and only had to wait for less than 10 mins whilst a table was being cleared. We had the ploughman's being 1 cheese, and 1 ham, and more so the ham as this tasted of a good quality product, whilst for me cheese is cheese, but still tasted good The warm bread presented with the meal was very tasty as was the salad (including the sliced apple), coleslaw, and pickles. They also had a good selection of beers which went down a treat. Every few months we go to the outlet shopping centre at Wilton, and pass along the same road, and this was the 1st occasion we decided to stop for lunch on our way home, and it will not be last with the intentions that we will call back again. Service was also of a high standard

We decided on a ride out for our bike group for a meet up on a fantastic bank holiday weekend. As we are fairly well spread out in terms of location, Salisbury looked to be the best venue for us all to get to. We found the Victoria and Albert on a google search for the intended area. Now this is not a biker haunt (that we know of) but a lovely rural pub with lots of character and charm. We were only a group of 10 so not too intimidating, but what a lovely little place. Could not do enough to make us feel welcome despite us just turning up. Lovely cold cider and a smashing burger ! The garden out back is just beautiful. Would highly recommend and hubby and I will definitely return. Thanks for making us feel very welcome and making us cheese and bacon panini's - lovely !

My partner and I decided to try out the Victoria and Albert Inn in Netherhampton, between Salisbury and Wilton, Wiltshire. So glad we did. A really lovely, small, quintessentially English pub. We were wise to book as they were full, a lovely log fire burning, the low ceiling hung with hundreds of horse brasses. Our reserved table was pride of place next to the log fire. We asked to move to another table as we were getting a bit warm. They were pleased to find us another table, nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The service is first rate and attentive. They offer an excellent range of beers, ales etc. We both ordered the ploughman’s lunch with cheese. It was excellent - piping hot, fresh ciabatta bread, with generous servings of cheese, salads and an unusual but yummy chutney. Sadly, we had no room for dessert. This is the place to go if you have visitors and you want to showcase an excellent traditional English Inn. For us locals, we’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menus and ales.

Located in Netherhampton village which is approximately 2 miles from Wilton and about 3 1/2 miles from Salisbury, this venue is in the centre of the village opposite the church. The Victoria & Albert pub is thatched. The interior is relatively small with authentic timbers and fittings. There is a beer garden which I gather is also used for meals, weather permitting. There is a small car park, but there is also adequate parking along the loop road through the village which runs parallel to the main road to Salisbury. This venue appears to be very popular so booking a table would be advisable. The food is good traditional pub food. There is a decent menu and blackboards with daily specials. The staff are friendly and the presentation is good. The venue also has a warm environment used by friendly locals and visitors. This Victoria & Albert is well worth a visit to appreciate the charm and environment. Recommended

This is a quant old pub serving home cooked food with a rustic slant. On the menu most of the main meals come with salad and chips, but at our request veg and mash were served with a slice of pie, but the mash was overwhelmed by the quantity of grain mustard. The meal was OK, but had the feel of being produced by a cook rather than a chief. But by the amount of people eating on a Tuesday lunchtime, perhaps we choice the wrong meal.

Mothers day...where to go. Driven past this pub hundreds of times but never had reason to stop. Friends suggested we try this for mothers day as it was half way between mothers needing lunch on a Sunday. We parked in the village opposite the Norman church and ducked our heads through the front door and I kept it ducked as I walked to the bar past the warm crackling open wood fire, filling the room with a wonderful smell and glow. The ceiling is low but the standards are not. Nice real friendly staff behind the bar offering a great range of beers and ciders, Black Rat scrumpy on hand pump at around 8% is a treat! I settled for a lower alcohol ale and wasn't disappointed. We ordered from the Sunday roast list, pate to start and various roast meats for main, I had a bean stew similar to a cassoulet as I am a vegan which caused no bother to the waitress or kitchen, a welcome change. The meats were well cooked and the roasties, veg, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding completed a very good meal. Desserts followed and again were of a high standard. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and deserved the tip we left. Well worth a visit for a drink or food.

It's already fabulous before you eat, with the fire, beamed ceilings, decoration (including entertaining signs) and well spaced layout. We booked on a busy day but the standard of food and service didn't suffer. Only proper chefs make chilli as it should be made - it amazes me how rare it is to see something other than bolognese made with the cheapest mince with added chilli powder. This version was perfect - as were the burgers our boys had (the best burger ever according to our eldest). Not far out of Salisbury this fabulous old pub nestles amongst the other period cottages. From the moment the latched door opens you are in for a treat. It's cosy, warm, welcoming and full of old world charm. It's a pleasure to sit here or in their large pretty lawned garden, where you can also dine on decking overlooking the beautiful meadows. If this gets you excited , there is more. They produce the best of food , including one of the best ever Sunday roasts! No soggy vegetables, no overcooked, dried out roast potatoes. Perfection, that is what you will find. This is a chef who knows how to really cook well but more importantly, why to serve it fresh. The choices of which are well thought out, so delicious that I returned with friend. Everyone was thrilled with their meal! The statistics speak for themselves that only 10% of reviewers rate this pub average or below. I am firmly in the 90% as this pub never fails to meet high food standards and an ever changing selection of ales. Friendly management and staff unless you're choosing to be awkward - if you're one of those I suspect there's a better pub for you in Salisbury town centre.Low beams, great food and drinks, lovely large garden in the summer. Only criticism is the log fire which belches smoke throughout the winter as the cowl on the chimney needs changing. It means you can't sneak in for a cheeky pint as you'll be busted for the smell of smoke on your clothes when you get home!

The owners have a good sense of humour and make you feel welcomed and it's great to see they've now got additional parking. Have eaten here often and happily go back.

Have seen the signs for this pub from the main road past Netherhampton many times. After visiting Downton fair we went for a swift drink, ended up staying for lunch. We ordered the VA Burger, It was the best home cooked burger we have had whilst dining out. I would recommend a visit and and meal any time. The owner Mrs. Scott was great and the young lady behind the bar was nervous. Easy to wind up, sorry.

I called up and made a reservation here for sunday for 4 of us.We arrived at the restaurant and there is very limited parking outside so we had to drive down the road and found parking there. We received no greeting on our arrival so we went to the bar and then the waitress pointed to our table. When we sat down the open fire was right behind us so this did become a bit smokey. No one came over to us to explain where the menus are or how we order food. After waiting 10 minutes my father went to the bar and ordered drinks. Once he had brought them back we waited a further 10 minutes before going up to the bar ourselves to ask the process. We were advised the menus are on the board. We ordered 4 carverys. I feel value for money was poor. It was £9.95 for the carvery and you can choose between turkey, beef and pork. The turkey was well cooked however the beef was a bit too undercooked and chewy. The potatoes were burnt and too crispy. The vegetables come out separately on a bowl. There was around 10 carrots, a few spoonful of peas, cabbage and some runner beans. The vegetables were okay and we ate what we could. 3 out the 4 of us had finished eating and the waitress came over to collect our plates. The waitress could clearly see the other person was eating however she still took the plates. I feel this was quite rude. I don't feel we got good customer service and the carvery wasnt great either so I don't feel we would drive out of our way to come here again.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of fish, game pie and scampi. The fish is freshly caught the day before and brought up from Brixham over night. Beautifully fresh and moist. Wonderful beer batter. Friendly attentive service. Lovely garden. Whole experience nothing but a joy. Can recommend this place highly enough.

Dined here yesterday with my wife and a fried. We don't ofter eat here because we live in the village. I have a quick drink most days. A brilliant place to catch up on the village gossip!Food is typical 'pub fayre', but is well cooked and presented.Well worth a visit. It can get busy as the pub is popular with ramblers. Best to book, if you want ameal.

Staying in the area recently we had dinner one evening in the Victoria & Albert pub. It's a very old building with lots of character. We were given a warm and friendly welcome and enjoyed an excellent meal and real ale. No hesitation at all in recommending this lovely pub. It was the last evening of our holiday so we couldn't go again but we certainly would have done otherwise.

We've just had a great Sunday lunch at the Victoria and Albert. Succulent roast beef, just the right shade of rare served with beautifully cooked veggies and all the trimmings. Luckily the kids had the haddock and chips so we could polish off their leftovers as well. The treacle tart was warm, light and not overly sweet. Great real ales and some friendly staff. What's not to like?!

This is a lovely old building, thatched and dark inside with a smoking fireplace. The landlady is a character and very active in her customer relations. The highlight was a glass of draught Erdinger non-alcoholic, which was fresh and foamy and one of the best beers of its kind I have enjoyed. Unfortunately the food didn't match the ambience. The menu was fairly unimaginative with the usual pub fare as in the days before the breathalyser, when beer was more important, and a pie and chips was the height of culinary excellence. For the record we had whitebait (hot but reheated), some bought ravioli type pasta on a bought arrabiata sauce, and about one eighth of a 'Hunter's pie', reheated and dried up with some chips probably ex-frozen. Presentation was sloppy, and I don't know if it was because the regular chef had a night off, but I gathered the cook was the son of the landlady. The prices were high considering the quality of the food, and I haven't had such a meal in a pub since the seventies.

Lovely characteristic pub in a small village. Great food and staff very hospitable. We visited on a Saturday evening and pre-booked a table, which I would recommend doing this as it did get full and most of the tables were pre-booked. Well worth a visit.

This pub is a true gem - beautiful inside and out. Ever changing real ales from local breweries are always available, served in excellent condition. Very good 'pub grub' and all served by charming and friendly staff.

We stopped here, completely by accident on the way home one evening. The pub is lovely, cosy and the food was good quality simple pub food. The staff were friendly and helpful even through it was busy and the log fire was a nice touch on a cold winter evening. We'll be returning (often I suspect as it's very close to home). Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Stopped at this pub for lunch with friends on the way into Salisbury to visit the Christmas Market. Good choice of English Pub Grub which was all freshly cooked. Burger and sausages a bit over cooked for our liking, but everything very tasty. Had to wait a long while after ordering but a very pleasant place. Worth a stop.

This lovely pub was very busy but they still managed to fit us in. The food arrived quickly. The roast beef was delicious. The stuffing balls and gravy are out of this world. All in all a very nice meal.

Love to find real pubs which obviously attract real "locals" and this is one of them. Gloriously olde worlde with a warm, comforting fire and equally warm , welcoming landlady. The food was very good too, lovely garlicky seafood pasta which really filled me up. Will make a pint of returning in the Summer as the garden looks great.

The Victoria and Albert is a small country pub. Four of us visited on a weekday lunchtime and it was pretty full (good sign!). It is therefore advisable to book ahead. We enjoyed our stay. The staff were great, the food arrived promptly and it was warmed by a log fire which increased the cosy atmosphere. I had been assured when I booked that my gluten free requirement would be 'no problem'. In reality we had to choose one of only two items on the menu that were GF, neither of which looked particularly attractive. We chose a salad based meal and, as seems often the case these days, the salad consisted of a generous plate of green leaves and precious little else. Surely it's time that people with serious allergies are given a better choice than this. This pub is run by someone with a serious sense of humour. Little jokes abound and, apart from the rather hard seats (I should have asked for a cushion), it is a very pleasant place to be. Worth giving it a go!

An excellent old fashioned where you are made to feel very welcome. Beware the uneven floors. Best to book if you are a large party or if there is Bank Holiday etc. Gets very busy on Sunday's and when the Salisbury Races are on!

I have been meaning to visit for quite some time and finally got the chance today. Beautiful little thatched pub with a warm and friendly greeting on arrival. Cosy, traditional and very English! Large garden with a window into the bar to collect your drinks! Food was tasty (but only had starters) and delivered with a smile. Judging by the quirky signage - a good sense of humour had by the owners! Fab.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Unfortunately unable to review accomodation, food or service as we were double booked. Apparently landlords wife responsible for this so she was summoned. Landlord then completely ignored us and didnt even offer us a seat let alone an apology, this was left to his wife. She didnt seem well and was apparently in hospital at the time of our booking. She went away, 20 mins later produced £140 to cover the cost at premier inn who had ample availability and she had phoned them. Premier Inn denied any phone calls from Helen. They had one room which went whilst we were trying to book it. Plenty of certificates of awards, shame they are so old and tatty like the pub. I hate being lied to but rudeness, lies and facing a night in the car... Dont book here, disgraceful performance. Tired and niaive, should have insisted they booked it in front of us! Took the edge off Bath Christmas market tbh!

We popped in this cafe during our 80 mile walk for some much needed hot food . The staff were fantastic, especially the waitress who couldn’t help us enough
