Wonderful cosy pub with great food and drink selection. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was cosy with a good shower, but soft mattress was not for us and the soundproofing in room 4 wasn’t great. Overall highly recommended.

We have just come back from singing Christmas Carols in a packed pub and enjoyed every second of it! It was the most jolly Christmas thing ever! Superb!

The food and service was very good. Access to the pub is via a single track road and is not far from Tisbury and 'Messums' gallery and tithe barn. The pub parking is difficult, bordering on nightmarish given we visited on a cold Friday in December. I suspect lunchtime at weekends are worse with a trek from an overflow carpark.

Beautiful, old pub! The Sunday Roast was excellent, we enjoyed it very much. Lovely vibe but don't expect staff to go out of their way to put the fire on even around 4pm as they were not very keen or accommodating even after requesting.

Such a gem of a pub- delicious food and a really cosy setting in the midst of the countryside, with some really charming villages on the drive there! The building itself is full of history/character. Perfect place for a Sunday roast or a cosy dinner by the fire, or even to finish up after a long walk!

Unique and beautifully inviting pub in tranquil countryside which we stumbled across too late for anything more than one moonlit glass in the pub garden. Welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable landlord who knows how to keep and pull a great pint so we will definitely, definitely, definitely return when we have a whole day/weekend/week to sample some more of their wonderful hospitality

We had a cracking lunch at The Compasses. Great service. Super food. Lamb rump with beans and salsa. I had a fish pie. We both had puddings. Cotleigh on tap in great order and pot of tea afterwards. It's a country pub with fantastic character. Very few lunching on a Wednesday. Hard to get to but worth the effort.

Popped in for dinner as it came highly recommended, especially the food. It didn't disappoint. Very friendly, service and atmosphere was great. We sat outside and the views are beautiful. The food was delicious, the wines were also very enjoyable and affordable. We want to come back and stay so we can sit in the pub without worrying about driving home!

If you somehow find yourself in this part of the beautiful English countryside, do yourself a favor and go to the Compasses Inn for Sunday Roast! The food is very good (I ate every last bite of my rump roast), and it is worth highlighting their Scotch Egg! I have been on the hunt for a truly excellent Scotch Egg, and I can say it has been found here!

What a stunning country pub. It’s rare these days to find a pub that tries to keep a traditional feel and this place nails it. The food is excellent and the welcome wonderful. If you are looking for classic English pub that does it all then you’ll have to look long and far for anything better

Nestled in the idyllic countryside, this charming country pub offers an exceptional experience. From the moment you step into your room, the warm aroma of fresh cookies greets you, setting the tone for a delightful visit. The service is impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff making you feel right at home. The food is outstanding, featuring a menu that highlights local produce and traditional recipes with a modern twist. There was a folder in our room filled with maps of nearby scenic walks, but we missed it and walked to Old Wardour castle. (4.5 hours but worth it). We can’t wait to return.

A pub loved by locals (and recommended in publications such as The Times), tucked away the Wiltshire countryside. We have eaten here on numerous occasions. The food is always of a high standard both in terms of cooking, freshness and quality. Much of their menu is sourced locally and this is reflected in the dishes they serve. It is a traditional country pub in every way; old, rustic, cosy. The staff are dedicated, friendly and hard working. Booking essential at peak times.

Absolutely faultless experience here today. Warm hospitality, more like going to a friend's for lunch. Offered drinks as soon as we walked in and made to feel welcome. Lovely, cosy interior. In fact if I had to pick one thing to improve, it would have been to have had the fire going, but it IS the end of April and the sun was blazing, albeit with a chilly wind. Plenty of people were sitting outside though. The food was outstanding. We shared a chilli squid starter. Perfect crunchy batter and plenty of chilli, fresh herbs and lime. A good-sized portion. We had one chilli cheese burger and one regular. Both were excellent. There was honestly nothing to find fault with. Will definitely be returning. It's worth going out of your way for and there is gorgeous countryside and plenty of walks nearby too. 10/10 💯

Went to the restaurant for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was busy so making a booking was required. Food was excellent, service was very good and the staff were attentive. Location is challenging to get to with narrow roads, but worth it. Paving is uneven, and there are some steps if you have mobility issues.

Mercer's is a great cafe in the up-market town of Marlborough. My friends and I visit several times a year on our bikes and we always get a warm welcome. The food and service is always perfect. But I have a tale to tell! I arrived with my friends and ordered beans and scrambled eggs on toast. When the lady came to serve our coffees she asked if I would like my bread gluten fee, "as usual". I had completely forgotten to mention this and would have been etremely sick a few hours later had I eaten non-gluten-free bread. I will be eternally grateful! What service!! Thank you!

We walked here with our family and dogs. Very friendly atmosphere and welcoming to us all. Food needs to be booked in advance, table booking is advised. There is carparking to the side of the pub, but you can walk here from Lyneham village as well. Much better than the Mallard and cheaper as well. I can say I will definitely be visiting again 😁 Lovely and cosy atmosphere with a log fire and plenty of comfy seating. Really great pub.

No greeting as I walked up to the door, she was smoking a fag outside. Sullen face while I was choosing what I wanted. When I asked for crispy bacon you'd think I'd of asked for the earth. In all it felt like I was an inconvenience and the atmosphere was so negative. Whilst I was waiting for my order I noticed the signs dotted about warning you not to cross her. I'll never go back there. Shame because the food was ok.
