Renovation has made this previously tired area worth a visit. It is bright and airy especially on Market days and quite well supported. So give it a try when visiting Newton.

There should be a government warning about this pub. You should be warned about how lovely it is. So nice to walk into a pub that's still a pub. It's how a pub should be. We went with friends for the first time last week and we will certainly visit again. Great atmosphere with friendly locals, lovely staff and then the food ‼️ OMG this is what pub food should be like. Fresh, cooked on site and a desperate Dan size portion. I could not recommend this pub any more. It's a proper pub with proper grub. Go you will love it.

We all enjoyed a tasty, reasonably priced breakfast. Service took a while but that was explained to us and they were very busy. Good sized portions; my Eggs Royale (with smoked salmon) was delicious. Quite a noisy space, difficult to hear at times, again, probably due to how busy there were. Easy to park (and free!) Not sure where the ‘Italian’ theme has come from?

I am a fan of Chanbury’s and so are my two teenaged children. Ordered a Margherita and a a Pepperoni with Hot Honey plus some Truffle Pots with a dip. Arrived hot and within the time promised (as always). The Pepperoni was medium heat which was just about right. Kids enjoyed it all and as a parent I gave them priority to eat until they were done, so I was miffed they cleared the food quicker than usual. Sometimes there’s a couple of slices for the next day. Good consistent service snd food so another weekend treat sorted. Nice thin crust with dough bubbles and charring.

The service was excellent, couldn't fault that at all. The food was very good, generous portions, hot and very tasty. Table clean and chairs very comfortable. Pleasant atmosphere mostly but spoilt by a couple of dogs that kept barking. I don't blame the dogs but owners should have had more control. Advertised as dog friendly so not unexpected to see some there, they were very large dogs though with loud barks. Otherwise a very lovely meal.

We went for Mothers day as we have many times in the past. When we arrived the table wasn’t laid, we had to ask for the chips underneath the table to be cleared up. We had to ask for more cutlery, spoons for soup, salt and pepper etc Food was ok but not as good as normal. The room we were in was sticky, dirty and we all came away very disappointed. Female toilets were filthy, bin overflowing, no toilet roll and dirty basin. This is our local but unfortunately I don’t think we will eat there again. I think the problem was that it was Mother’s Day and busy. Only very young, inexperienced staff around and way too many customers booked in.

The room doesn't have usb points. Mild in the bathroom. Evening meal was poor. Now that Beefeater/ Brewers Fayre no longer provide food it is no longer a pleasure staying at these hotels. Very limited menu. Air fryer food. Breakfast was ok.

The 3 July was their last night in Beefeater as we know it. I’ve been a fan of Beefeater for 50 years from child to adult and its phasing out is rather sad. We came 9 days ago for a birthday meal that was great and tonight I came to say goodbye to staff. Great food and service under conditions which Whitbread PLC should be wincing at. Staff numbers and menu run to minimum only to replace by a poor stable mate in the future, I assume for residents only. Wish them all well and the duty manager on my last two visits was really great - lovely character and hope she goes on to excel in hotel/hospitality/tourism and leisure. A great night for me - in the end of what’s left of Beefeater Grandstand.

All I can say is how amazing customer service is here I was served by all three of Tensi, Tasha and mark and all three are such hard working individuals and giving it their all even with people becoming difficult as a barista/ manager I’d be super proud of how well this team is I hope they continue to work hard and keep giving their amazing customer service they are a asset to Costa

We tried this place for the first time yesterday. Fabulous location right on the river and clearly a favourite with dog walkers and ramblers due to the walks alongside the Teign. We had a very nice table indoors overlooking the river. Waited ages for drinks at the bar, then again when waiting to order despite there being at least three waitresses and a virtually empty pub. Apparently two of them were 'just back from University' as if this in some way excused the fact that they very audibly did not appear to know where they were supposed to be taking the food they had already twice carried from the kitchen. We had checked out the menu on the website before we went and were looking forward to the sea bass which is very clearly advertised, so it was a bit disenchanting when there was no sight of it on the physical menu. Our meals were therefore medium cod and chips, Devon ham with a 'brace of eggs' and chips and a ploughman's. The cod was tiny and overcooked. The tartar sauce seemed to have been produced from a bottle. My mother's 'Devon ham' looked as if it had been freshly taken out of a packet; wafer thin, processed, wet and shiny, not 'locally cooked on site' as boasted. The chips were very obviously frozen. My ploughman's had a nice salad, a decent blue cheese and nice, hot bread. Other than that, the cheddar managed to be bland, the brie was rock hard and completely tasteless, the chutney and pickles looked as if they had been served to someone else prior to me and there was a massive amount of a lurid purple something on my plate which I think was coleslaw but which tasted nothing like it. Vile. My mother complained about the ham and was told by the waitress that she would 'find out more from the chef'. She never got back to us. We used the lavatory on leaving which was upstairs, very poky and had urine all over the seat. A really disappointing experience. They have what I would describe as a 'tourist' menu in that they seem to think they can serve up substandard food at inflated prices and get away with it because tourists are transient. Terrible.
