The 2nd time we have been here this year for carvery, both occasions good, we have been a few times for drinks in the garden which is pleasant with great views. I have to say everybodies opinions and tastes can be quite different depending on what youre looking for, this is mine.....quite busy but not full was 2pm, friendly staff, was shown to our table and offered drinks immediately which came quite quickly, me and my other half went for the carvery and my daughters went for the turkey and cranberry ciabatta and children's mac and cheese, the lady serving us said she would let us know when to queue for the carvery once the children's food was on the way which we liked do we could all eat together. Great carvery, choice of 3 meats, you can have all 3 if you want, great choice of veggies, all the trimmings, all cooked well to my liking. The girls food was good, nice fresh chips, salad and homemade coleslaw with the sandwich. The mac and cheese being children's was a bit bland and didn't taste much of cheese, I asked the waitress if we could have some cheese added to it and she brought out a complete fresh bowl being much cheesier. I do recommend the passage house and will definitely come again.

We’d not been here for some years, so when friends were visiting Torquay we thought we’d revisit given it was our half-way point. Early lunch sitting so not many tables occupied. The carvery chef was already grumpy so heaven help anyone on the receiving end at late lunch! Food adequate - although my mother on declining her Yorkshire pudding, found the chef then declining to pass it on to our friend who requested it. Times must be hard!

Food was ok but the place is looking decidedly tatty and grubby. The entrance hadn’t been cleaned in months, the plastic covered menus hadn’t been wiped in just as long. Some of the waitresses were not dressed appropriately including one with tights full of holes. Finally the toilet for disabled customers was unsavoury. Afraid it all gave me grave suspicion about the state of the kitchen.

Looked at the menu on line and because I have a gluten intolerance I decided I was going to have the ham, egg and chips. However, when I was handed the menu when we got there that option was not on the Sunday menu! Needless to say I was disappointed and had to go for a gluten free carvery as no other options apart from pizza which I did not really want for a Sunday lunch. We also noticed that regulars appeared to receive more attention, we were not even asked if the food was ok as the staff seemed more interested in their regulars! Might not be back for a while. My dad asked for the small scampi charged at £8.50 on the menu but not until we got home we realised he had been charged for a large scampi.

We have had lunch here in the past and it has been excellent. Not so today- the mussels were small and gritty. My husband’s liver and bacon was poor - tiny amount of liver, 1 slice of fatty bacon, perched on a small pile of what called itself bubble and squeak (orange colour, was it swede?) Not sure what the 2 battered onion rings on top were about. They would do well to spend less on decorating everything with pea shoots and more on basic ingredients.

Nice pub with good food and I have visited quite often (there's not too much competition in the area). The food is always good and staff are friendly but for some reason I can't fathom, the bar is almost always deserted. If you go to the bar to get drinks you will be waiting for some time. It's as if the staff never think to check who might be waiting occasionally. I can only presume that they focus so much on food that they don't care about the drink. That's fine if there's service at the tables, but there isn't. If you eat there (in that bar, it's fine in the restaurant area) and like a drink with your meal then you have to buy two before your meal arrives or the meal will go cold whilst you wait. Otherwise the place is great.

Absolute rubbish, the organisation of patrons was out of control. We were told there was a 1 1/2 hours wait for our table, when we got seated, and main course which mostly stayed on the plates was over we were told we would have to hurry up as another group was booked for our table. This is not acceptable everyone is as important as the next. I’ve fed leaner meat to my dogs, the PHI has long been a popular venue for us. I can categorically state that this is the last time we ever visit £170 waisted.

Lovely meal, however very rushed, closed at 10 and we were reminded on several occasions that they closed at 10 which meant be out of the pub at 10 on a friday night. despite spending over £200 as a group on food and drink. We paid by 9.30 but not allowed to stay to finish by staff who had their coats on ready to go. I understand that you need to have a finishing time but to made to feel rushed certainly put a dampner on the evening.would consider other venues when looking to book a similar evening again!

Very quite for a Saturday evening and having tasted the food I can understand why. Very poor service overall the food came before the cutlery which was just dumped on the table. Two of the meals were very poor a wedge of Pie which was dry and tasteless and a piece of fish which was very watery. We usually have deserts but decided against it.

We had a Sunday Roast and it was absolutely delicious. Plenty of food and a proper meat gravy. The chef was very very friendly along with all the members of staff. Another bonus was there was an option of a small roast at £10.95, the normal roast was £14.95. We would definitely return for another roast in the future. It was very busy which indicated how popular it was. I would recommend.

Went to Passage House Hotel 4 weeks before booking for Christmas Dinner, l said to my partner this Sunday lunch is fabulous, so we booked for Christmas Dinner, the starter was so good, we loved it, however, the Christmas Dinner had no taste at all, stuffing balls were hard, you could taste the spouts and parsnips ( which were huge), everything else was tasteless, gravy also had no taste, after paying £168.00, we will never go here again, what a disappointment from the Sunday lunch we had 4 weeks earlier .

We went for the Sunday carvery. The “small” carvery was for 2 slices of meat - I got 2 very thin slices which were not even full slices off the roast. Taste-wise, it was ok only with the vegetables filling up the plate. 1 pint of soft drink was £4.40 which was pricey. Overall nothing great.

Very tasty carvery at very reasonable price. I had a small carvery with a slice of beef and a slice of pork for GBP 10.95 with a large Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, crackling, and a wide selection of vegetables and lots of gravy.. The carvery is available on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday for lunch and Thursday lunch and dinner. The beef and pork were both tasty, easy to cut and succulent. A large carvery for GBP 14.95 has a choice of three slices of meat (beef, turkey and pork) and a larger sized plate which can fit more vegetables and roast potatoes. The Diet Coke and coke cost GBP 4.40 per pint which is more expensive than any of the other pubs we have visited in Devon. The waiters and waitresses were polite and helpful. The inn had a very cosy interior.

Five weeks ago I Booked a lunch for 5th November for a special birthday treat. Dined at the Passage House Inn twice since and checked my 5th November booking each time, all booked great! Turned up in the 5th and was told I hadn’t booked. I was so embarrassed as I was being called a liar and I knew I was right. They did find us a table but it spoilt the celebration. I paid the bill with a lady with a foreign accent, never seen her before, must be new. She was so rude and definitely needs customer care and people skills training. I actually looked in the booking diary on the desk and what do I see? My booking which had been crossed out and different name put next to it. When I challenged it with the manager (I think) he just said sorry about that but mistakes happen. Definitely a place I will not be back to.

Booked a table for 5 and a baby for 1700 today 10/9/23 A queue of 8 before me at the bar on entering at around 1600 similar to a previous reviewers comments The drinks were VERY EXPENSIVE ! Outside seating area very good by the river Inside the conservatory area our table was absolutely filthy Our 36 year old son scraped a thick layer of grime from his place at the table with his red carvery card !The tables were sticky but had been wiped ! The carvery was tasty but the small dish of roast potatoes had clearly been kept warm from lunchtime and would have made a good base for a dry stone wall ! The place was swarming with youngsters employed as staff and the only grown ups were 1 behind the bar and the chap serving the meat although he didn’t deserve a pat on the back for portion size at nearly £15 a plateful ! The toilet cleanliness was disgraceful warranting my comment to the other adult serving behind the bar ! Used to go there years ago but no never again

We had a lovely 3 course lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Sat outside enjoying the fabulous view. Such a great setting with friendly efficient service, especially from Mel. So lucky to have the PH on our doorstep.

Staff were very friendly but food was disappointing and not even up to the standard of average home cooking . I could have cooked better myself. We ordered Turkey and Thyme Pie, veg and new potatoes. The pie had obviously been reheated in the microwave...

My daughter and I had a ploughman’s platter which as advertised we shared. We were very disappointed, there was one slice of very fatty ham and everything else felt like it was being limited which considering it was fairly expensive we expected better. So we...

Staff were very helpful and polite, the food arrived surprisingly quickly! The cheesy chips were great. Lovely way to end the evening and hang out with some friends by the scenery :)

I have been to The Dolphin Inn several times now and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. There are homemade traditional pies and roasts offered on Sundays, and bar snacks during the week. I had forgotten my scarf and Sam had very kindly looked after it for me. I wish them a very happy and successful 2020!

Amazing level of service from one of the ladies at The Ridge Café. I want to thank the member of staff who offered and brought out to the car park, our order to me and my two rescue dogs, one of which, new to us, is very nervous following traumatic times in recent years. It was raining but this lady absolutely wanted to do it, and the dogs were able to meet her - one was enthusiastic and the new boy just looked puzzled, probably wondering who was so kind to bring out this meal to us. It was great, gentle, exposure for ‘new boy’ and a highlight for me too. I’m sorry that I don’t have the lady’s name but she was so good, thank you!

My friend and I lunch here most Mondays usually having fish and chips with the best french fries I have had. The fish is delicious with thin crispy batter. I cannot praise the staff enough for their friendliness, and attention to detail which makes it a pleasure to go there

We was on a pub tour of the area and passed this on a way to another pub and thought “oh this looks quaint” sometimes the most impromptu pubs are the best and this one certainly is! Four ales were on draft we opted for the salcombe gold Which was excellently kept. I loved the laid back atmosphere with dog friendly sofas. They have a beautiful boxer dog named boots who greets you on arrival who is loving in nature with people and dogs. Very chilled and dog friendly and I will certainly visit again and stay for longer when I’m next in the area. Whatpub online does not hype this place is much as it should.

We brought our grandson here after visiting the castle. he had the child's chicken and skinny chips plus juice whilst us adults enjoyed tea, and the fish dishes of the day. All was attractively served without having long to wait. Sensible prices which made our meals good value. Plenty of choice on the menu. Ample parking adjacent to the farm shop & cafe.
