Amazing, super friendly staff, great food and nice looking pub!

We were keen to rest up and have lunch after visiting nearby National Trust at Hinton Ampner. The staff could not have been more helpful, and food excellently priced.

The Fox Inn at Bramdean is a real gem of a pub and a rare find these days. The building originates from the 17th century, but much altered in appearance over the years, and is Grade II listed. By not being overly modernised, it has retained a genuine old pub atmosphere and it is all the better for it. The floor is made of old wide oak planking which creaks and squeaks when you walk on it. There are low beams and wood panelling in the bar area. The floor plan is idiosyncratic; the bar is ‘L’ shaped. It all provides for a delightfully aged, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Three real ales were on tap when I visited: Langham’s Session Bitter; Otter Bitter and Hopback Summer Lightning. I had Chicken Supreme from the lunch menu and it was excellent. The large chicken leg was cooked perfectly, so that it was still moist and tender; the cream sauce, with mushrooms and wilted spinach was well seasoned. Service was friendly and prompt. This pub is a bit out of the way but definitely worth taking a trip out to visit. Highly recommended.

Loved the old Tichbourne Arms but sadly this is a cash cow. Lacks the atmosphere of the old pub, the decent food and just didn’t hit the mark. The starter of chicken liver parfait was nice, the venison sausages ok and the double cheeseburger cheap and nasty. This pub is now catering to the masses who are obviously not particularly discerning. It is trying to be something it is not. As soon as we saw the outside covered eating area we knew it was a red flag. Why oh why do people who have money to invest rip out the heart and soul of a pub. We shall not return and nor will we recommend it. They have plenty of people not concerned to worry about our review.

We have just returned from our first trip to The Bush Inn at Ovington, and we’re very happy, thank you. The food was delicious, the service (Leo and the two female staff) was excellent and the atmosphere was welcoming too. Pick of the main courses were Steak and Ale pie, Haddock and chips, and the children’s Burger. Prices were reasonable and the selection of food was excellent. We will definitely be back, probably in the warmer weather, when we can use the large beer garden. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
