The Fox Inn at Bramdean is a real gem of a pub and a rare find these days. The building originates from the 17th century, but much altered in appearance over the years, and is Grade II listed. By not being overly modernised, it has retained a genuine old pub atmosphere and it is all the better for it. The floor is made of old wide oak planking which creaks and squeaks when you walk on it. There are low beams and wood panelling in the bar area. The floor plan is idiosyncratic; the bar is ‘L’ shaped. It all provides for a delightfully aged, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Three real ales were on tap when I visited: Langham’s Session Bitter; Otter Bitter and Hopback Summer Lightning. I had Chicken Supreme from the lunch menu and it was excellent. The large chicken leg was cooked perfectly, so that it was still moist and tender; the cream sauce, with mushrooms and wilted spinach was well seasoned. Service was friendly and prompt. This pub is a bit out of the way but definitely worth taking a trip out to visit. Highly recommended.

A Nice two course meal in a nice friendly pub/restaurant. The main courses are big and, sorry to say, we were both stumped to finish our dish. Very quiet when we visited on a late September Wednesday evening.

The food was lovely. Well cooked and good selection of freshly cooked vegetables. I had the pork and others chose the beef. Everyone was pleased with their choice. Sauces come in little glass jars rather than those awful paper cups. The service was excellent and staff very friendly. Would definitely come back again.

Visited at lunch time on a December afternoon. Warm and inviting with tasteful Christmas decorations. Very helpful staff. Interesting menu and the sandwiches we ordered, which came with very fresh salad and great string potatoes, were simply delicious. Nothing more to say really, heartily recommend this fine inn.

Title says it all. It's a proper pub. Lovely building, heaps of character, good mix of drinking and eating, proper guest beers on tap, and good solid "pub" food. We were there on Sunday night, and the menu is primarily roast-based with a few simple alternatives. All good & great portions. Starter of whitebait was fab - plate of that and chips would have done me! Lunch menu looks perfect - simple stuff all well priced.Staff all v welcoming, friendly and efficient. Looking forward to going back!

Popped in today with family for hot chocolate. The place is always busy as it has a good reputation. BUT, there has clearly been a change in staff and they simply weren’t coping with the volume of customers. The queue was out the door and the stress seemed evident, with one staff member being quite brusque with us when serving. The table we found hadn’t been cleared of the previous’ empties. They did sort this out for us relatively promptly. After ordering I had to ask for an additional loyalty stamp (according to the card it’s per hot drink, not visit) for the two hot chocolates I ordered and when the drinks arrived they weren’t as hot as either of us would have liked. Didn’t make a fuss, as by then the queue was out the door again and I didn’t want to stress out the already stressed manager. Next thing we knew, two younger male staff members sauntered out of the kitchen like they had all the time on the world, whilst the manager was still clearly running around like a headless chicken. Unfortunately the choc chip scones we had were dry. I think they had previously been frozen. To be fair we were offered these to be heated up for us but declined. Biggest issue is clearly training the new staff who aren’t pulling their weight. I feel disappointed as the staff used to be super here, efficient and friendly and it used to have a lovely atmosphere, even when busy. Unfortunately I feel there were neither here today. Really hope you’re able to iron these issues out. :)

My first time coming in here and I was not expecting the food to be so tasty! So much choice and not the bland food you always think of when you think of vegan choices. Pleasantly surprised.

Often visit this pub for a meal. On this occasion very disappointing menu. For example, No chicken on menu, only one vegetarian option which was a Balti Pie. Nothing like the busy pub we have visited before. Perhaps others feel as we do about this menu? Overall, for the first time not sure if we will bother visiting again
