Lovely place and cracking breakfast which was such good value for money

Very loud on a Saturday with live music which made it difficult to have a meal and a conversation!

Dreadful service, had to ask 3 times for a glass of coke. Chicken burger was dry as a bone and my friend finally received her dish 25 .minutes after the rest of us which wasn't as stated on the menu, it was more like a large salad instead of a poke bowl. The family near us also had meals arriving late/missing. You couldn't say they were understaffed so no idea what was going on.

Popped in here whilst doing a bit of shopping in Wickham. Very friendly welcome, good service and lovely food. Will be happy to return.

Popped in on a Monday morning for a coffee and ended up having a bit of breakfast as well. It’s not the cheapest place for breakfast but our food was prepared very nicely, poached eggs perfect. Coffee was excellent — not the burnt bean taste you get in your typical high street coffee chains. So thumbs up.

Pleasant pub with good beer from a local brewery

Came down from Yorkshire to stay with my sister for a few days. Visited the Square Cow. 4 of us had the steak and ale pie. Superb. One of us had the mussels. We were all envious. Had a chat to the chef Shaun and he said to let him know next down we were visiting and he would try to make sure he had enough mussels for us . What a great chef. Thanks Shaun we. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food and service, we both chose off the special board, we asked if we could meet there chef as they quite often don't get the credit they deserve, he came out and sat chatting to us about the food there, seemed like he was really passionate about his food. Will definitely be back.

Cute pub with nice atmosphere. Had lunch here with the girls. Not sure I would come back for food. Ordered pie which lacked filling and came with very limited amount of vegetables on the side. I do not feel it was worth the price. Would be. Nice pub to pop in for a drink though.

I visited with my mum tonight for an evening meal and had rang and reserved a table. We also were able to take our little dog which was great. We were served by Laura and Danny and they were very attentive throughout and always checked if we need anything extra through out. I had the chilli off the specials which was HUGE but also delicious. My mum the Sea bass which was also on the specials and she said the fish was superb. Thank you to everyone we will be back.

Lovely atmosoheric, well run pub. Two main eating areas, quiet reflection area, and a more generous atmosoheric eating bar area with ground and upper floor. Reasonable prices. Toilet in pub. Pub is situated in the beautiful Wickham viIllage square. Large low-cost public parking in town square, right outside!. Lovely interesting shops, and walks. Ideal for families and meeting up with your friends.

We booked a table for 5 with an autistic 8 year old. Despite being early our table had been given to another party. We were shown upstairs and given a table for 4 so they stuck a chair on the end. Totally inappropriate and unsafe By now m granddaughter was in tears. We left. It seems they take bookings despite not having the tables available. It was a special family celebration. They didn’t care. Too busy My advice don’t plan a Sunday lunchtime. Your booking may not be honoured

Beautiful scone well presented they just looked to great to be left , pic doesn’t do it justice.such a great place to come .Liam makes the best pina colada’s ! You need to try there cocktails, they all a great bunch very proud to have them in our village 🥰

What a beautiful meal: pie followed by homemade sticky toffee pudding. Met the lovely Frank who owns the pub, a real character and was introduced to the lovely sous chef who cooked the amazing pudding! Just gorgeous! Well worth the calories.. Superb atmosphere....it was our first time but it definitely won't be our last! Absolutely 5 star!!!

Wow best roast ever, obviously very busy so waited a little, the main pub area is quirky but sadly room to the right as you come in lacks the same feel

Went here 29th December. The pasta dish was amazing. Service was perfect and was such a lovely pub. Highly recommended.

As always we had a fantastic night at the characterful Square Cow on NYE. Frank and Trish create a truly welcoming atmosphere and the food was delicious. Add a live singer to the mix and the place was absolutely rocking! So nice to see all the locals “out out” and partying with new faces. Would highly recommend this pub.

Had lunch here today and really enjoyed the experience here,the venue was clean and well presented and the was a table available even though we had not booked,we were greated as soon as we entered and the staff were brilliant,I would highly recommend this pub for a meal and or a drink.

Visited for lunch with my husband and our dog after a walk in Wickham and will definitely visit again. The food was very good, all cooked fresh to order with quality ingredients used. The service was also excellent, with very friendly helpful staff. I would recommend to anyone looking to visit.

I had a late breakfast here with friends. We arrived just as breakfast finished but they were very accommodating & let us order off the breakfast menu. The full English was freshly cooked, delicious & filling. The coffee is as good as advertised too 🙂. The pub is old but beautiful, the staff friendly & service excellent. I'll definitely be going back.

4 generations of our family turned up and we could see reservation on all the tables but the staff were brilliant, we sat in the garden and had a fantastic meal with excellent service and we were able to take our dog, we absolutely loved it

All staff amazing,they went the extra mile to please everyone who walk through the door, there was nothing they wouldn't do for you. The food is great and worth every penny. It was great that you could walk in to a place and every one got on with each other.its well worth another visit. Had a Sunday lunch which was out of this world, very good value for money. Staff were excellent and could not do enough for you. Would recommend any body going to Wickham do not pass this pub go in and you wont be disappointed and you will not go hungry. Would also recommend the sandwiches on offer in the week fantastic. If we ever went back to Wickham then we will surely go back to this pub

Lovely friendly staff, nice food, tho we were a group of 10 so couldn't choose specials on the day (Sunday) (n sadly I don't do roast dinners) but the food was still excellent!

Updated August 2023. Sunday roast. Five people. And oh my. Huge plates of food, great tasting meat veg and yorkies. Great banter, kind people, good music, fun atmosphere. Highly recommended. Originally...No-one does food on Mondays it seems except for a few places. So Serendipity took my wife and I to this place on a whim. A quick phone call whilst driving to check they did food, table sorted and job done. Chili prawn starter brilliant. Jan and eggs good, and the pie was fab: proper pie, crusty all the way round, a "sufficiency"of gravy, roast carrots and parsnips great and they were very easy swapping the mash for yummy chips. Parking easy... It's free after 1700 so no worries there. Nice place, nice people.

What a great pub. All that a 'local' should be; the regular customers mixing easily and in a friendly manner with visitors. A great range of drinks, cheerful, friendly service, competitive pricing, an historic building maintained well without destroying the 'old' atmosphere. A great 'secret' courtyard and a nice outdoor area to the front of the pub allowing customers to while-away-the-hours watching all that goes on in a very busy town square. Recommend a visit ... even 2 or 3!

Had a full English breakfast here at 9am Friday morning . It was lush good quality plenty of it and piping hot well worth a visit. Plenty parking outside 50p per hour

Popped in for a drink with family, It was quiet in the bar area but didn't dull the spirits of the Waiter and Waitress behind the bar. Lovely service!! Food smelled amazing and unfortunately we left it too late to try but will definitely be back!

We ate here this week! Excellent food reasonably priced and tasty. The drinks were reasonably priced and Georgina our server was superb she couldn’t do enough for us and was super attentive.

Popped in with pooch for a quick pint after dog walk in the rain. We managed to get seated upstairs with dog in tow and decided to stop for a roast and so pleased we did! Food was excellent, fresh, hot, tasty and great value for money. Would definitely recommend. Friendly attentive staff too and dog enjoyed a tasty sausage.

Delicious Sunday roast with generous helping of meat ( 4 good slices). Service was a bit slow but the meal made up for it. Friendly atmosphere with live music. Also very reasonably priced.

What a friendly local pub, real ales, great choice of guns and low/no alcohol options but the piece de resistance is the food Sunday roasts are epic!! The meat is tender and full of flavour, roast potatoes are crisp and tasty and the Yorkshire’s are HUGE - lashings of gravy and the horseradish sauce tasted home made Conor was an absolute star and looked after all of us As a party of 11 we pre ordered our meals which arrived all the same time - piping hot We will come here again definitely !!

The staff are friendly but the food so disappointing. Mains were ok but over priced and bland. The food is better at Wetherspoons. The desert was the worst I’ve ever had they run out of the blackberry or blackcurrant cheesecake I can’t recall so put some concoction together and called it strawberry cheesecake. Awful crunched biscuit and a topping that was like squirty cream, pink absolutely awful I returned mine. My wife’s desert didn’t come they had run out but didn’t bother to tell us. I got a refund for my pudding and drink which was nice. However, people are currently struggling so a meal out is a treat for some for these prices I would expect a good meal! So unfair.. and taking advantage of people.

We were probably the annoying type of customers ordering hot chocolate to takeaway on a Saturday night in a pub… also asking for vegan milks and asking for extra hot as we had a long drive. And changing orders etc etc. However the staff member- sorry we didn’t catch his name- but he was maybe the manager was so warm and friendly. He cared for our drinks and explained that we should be careful because of the cups on our drive. On our recent travels we have encountered so Many unfriendly or untrained staff which can make the nicest interior designed place feel cold, unwelcoming and confusing. However in this authentic English pub, despite not particularly modern - we could have stayed for hours feeling comfortable and welcomed. Thank you for this lovely experience! People make places! Please keep training and encouraging your staff to be this attentive and engaging.

Stopped in Wickham for breakfast when out on bike ride with cycling buddy and we had the the best full English we have ever had ! Just superb and very generous portions ! it kept us going well into the evening. Will definitely go back when in the area again. Many thanks !

Came to the square cow on recommendation of a friend to try the roast dinner all i can say is omg it was brilliant had roast beef and pork had so much meat everthing was great and Frank and his staff were great the most friendly pub ive visited in years will definitely be back and will tell all my friends

Never been here be4 it was absolutely lovely the best Sunday lunch we've ever had , we had the Roast Lamb, loads of veg the cauliflower cheese was amazing. Friendly Frank and his staff were very welcoming, friendly and really helpful. We will definately go back again and again, an absolutely lovely place comfortable and fabulous food. 👌

We went for a Father's day Sunday lunch as a party of 10. They do a lovely roast dinner, very welcoming.

My local holds a special place in my heart this is where I had my Harry met Sally moment but instead it was my Harry met Manby moment . It's Michael Manby here and this pub used to be top notch but wasn't impressed yesterday the beer I was getting served was like horsepiss I think the pipes need cleaning or something. To top it off I had to watch Barry Lipscombe all night pick his nose and wipe it under the bar.

Had a lovely vegan Sunday Roast. Loads of gravy, the nut toast was tasty, and the roast potatoes were lush. Staff were lovely and very friendly. Highly recommend. Would definitely be a regular if we lived closer.

It's OK could do with comfy chairs and they need to to fix that horrible smell of rotting bodies and could do with more lights in the bar area

Very poor food quality. The bangers were rock hard, the stuffed lamb was virtually cold( nice roast potatoes though). The scampi was just adequate and unimaginatively presented. This was poor pub food. Pleasant service. A waste of £100.
