Tichborne Arms in Winchester

Service a little slow when busy, asked several times for salt and vinegar. The hake dish was small and pricey at £26. Service charge added on £18 for four covers, a little cheeky. The waitress was lovely and smiley.

Found Tichborne Arms as a central location to meet up with old friends as we were all coming from different places and I was very happy I picked this place! The food was excellent (lamb flatbread and the massive double cheeseburger eaten). Nice beers available, too. Staff friendly and considerate. Nothing to complain about at all!

Yet another establishment not taking cash (nor did they warn me of it) what are people who don't have access to bank cards, and can only use cash do? I find it annoying and somewhat elitist.

Nothing has changed in terms of service since it reopened with a flurry of excited customers over-powering the kitchen. Still takes ages for food to come out randomly - five of us ordered and were specifically asked if the two starters (which weren't listed as starters on the specials board) were as mains and to come out together, which we confirmed. They came out first and were finished well before the remaining three received any food. Food is very good and coffees were comped, but that doesn't really fix a ruined meal, especially when it just keeps on happening.

We were not told, when booking, that our table would be outside. It was freezing cold (despite the proffered blankets which soon ran out as the place filled up). The outside heaters did not work. Other tables which were seated before us were served first. Most of our party enjoyed their food, I found the meat inedible but the servers were very friendly and apologetic. It’s not their fault that it was so cold and they did their best. Would go back if we were seated inside. Make certain on booking!

Delicious and interesting menu, fairly priced for the great quality. Amazing outside space, partly covered. Stayed overnight in the carpark in our campervan (contact pub first to check). Will definitely be back.

If you’re looking for a beautifully designed child friendly gastro pub you will love this pub. It is however more of a restaurant than a plain old fashioned proper pub so if that’s what you’re looking for it’s not the day for this one. Design, gardens, service and food all full marks. Especially the waitresses who despite being very busy were able to keep up the human side of good service.

What a gem of a pub! Best pub we've been to in a long time. The staff are all great and my God can the kitchen nock out a good gluten free meal! We stayed overnight so we had the pleasure of experiencing dinner and breakfast. Naomi was our host for the first visit and she was fantastic. The experience was so good we even changed our route around the new forest so we could stop in again on our last day before heading home. Again, a lovely time was had, fantastic gluten free dinner and breakfast and the staff are all so attentive. We will return for sure! Couldn't recommend more

Excellent gluten and dairy free fish and chips. Quite a few gf options and staff happy to check everything with the kitchen.

Nice place to sit out the front and have a drink. Not been in for food yet since the refurb. But I'm sure we will at some point. It looks good 👍

Really lovely pub. I had the chicken satay which I told the staff was possibly the best pub meal I’d had, it was so tasty! Thank you to our waitress Claire and bar tender Harrison who were both brilliant. Highly recommend

Very welcoming place, used the silent car park after 10pm, to sleep with my camper. I ate a pizza there with a rating of 4, I recommend something else.

Normally fantastic and generally sets a high bar but ...took an uncle of mine who came over from Kent as a celebration and was really disappointed. The Sunday lunch appeared to have changed, the veg was now served on the plate, not separate, the cauliflower was now an extra at £7. The beef was really poor, far too much fat and chewy bits, flooded in gravy, potatoes had been standing on the pass far too long. Normally really impressed with the service but again Sunday was slow, forgot our water....just a poor day alround. Normally wouldn't complain as there is generally nothing to moan about, only praise highly. I guess everyone has an off day, just a great shame it spoilt our day somewhat.

Even though they had a large event on that we were not part of, there was still plenty of space, and the service was first class. The lady they served us was so helpful and made great food recommendations. Even the bar staff were amused by my dad jokes (I think!???) We often drive along the A31, so will be taking a small detour here very soon.

Went for first time this weekend. Food was terrible. Salad inedible. Fish tasteless. Both boys who had the burger were sick during the night. Music unnecessarily loud. Service was good. Gardens looked nice. Good parking. Nice location. Putty about the food/ will not return.

We attended this place for the fist time in July 2024. There was a wedding reception taking place and I thought that that would result in the serving being slow and chaotic. The young woman who served us our food was polite, knowledgeable and knew the menu because she was able to make proper and informed recommendations. The Caesar salad was a pleasant surprise. I expected to be served a portion of lettuce with small pieces of chicken and a tiny bit of cheese. Instead, the portion was rather large (not that I am complaining) and it was well presented. Please look at some of my photos, some of which show the Caesar salad. Although we dined inside, there are many tables from which to choose outside the building.

A wonderful countryside English pub in the middle of nowhere, a very worthwhile stop for a meal and a few pints. The interior dining areas were great, but we sat outside as part of a large party. Food was excellent - especially the lamb pie - and the selection of beers was great. Highly recommended!

Had a roast there yesterday. Nice place, staff friendly. They took the drinks order and forgot mine 3 times. No sauces or salt & pepper on the table. Roast was rubbish. Beef was like chewing on an old boot - full of fat. Hardly any gravy. Left most of it and was charged the sum of £26 just for one roast. Rubbish roast for 2, 2 soft drinks and one dessert - £100. Won't be going back again.

What a delightful county pub. Looks beautiful from the outside and has plenty of parking. Just wait till you go inside, it's stunning! Lots of lovely seating, cosy pub feel in the main bar area then my goodness another beautiful room / dining area behind. And then outside ... wow! Tented area with tables, heater leading to a stunning garden area with pockets of seating, a little playground which closes at 7pm (great idea!), cosy shed with seating and cute deckchairs looking out over fields and cows. Honestly, a beautiful, well thought out exterior that I would happily sit in anytime. The gardens are blooming at the moment. I wish I'd taken photos - I need to go back!

Lovely country pub with modern atmosphere and pretty gardens. We had pizza from their outdoor pizza oven. Take a drive through our fantastic Hampshire villages and have lunch there.

This was one of the most picturesque pubs I've ever been to. Lovely beer garden, cows in the field next door, and amazing, attentive staff. We stayed there in a campervan as Britstop members and they were super accomodating. Located in a very nice area with lots of walks and things to see in the nearby village. Would recommend to anyone going to that area!

We were really impressed by the whole experience: great staff, easy parking beautiful setting. But the food was even better. Chef David showed us some wonderful gammons he was smoking; the Brisket Rarebit starter was truly delicious, as was the charred asparagus with soft boiled egg. We both then had the gammon, egg and chips which topped a perfect lunch. The care being taken to plant wildflowers throughout the garden makes this a place we definitely want to return to.

I rarely leave reviews, let alone 5 star reviews but the Tichborne Arms has been phenomenal! Right from the moment we walked in, Joel and his entire team were all extremely friendly and welcoming. All the food we ordered was impeccable, the service outstanding and overall an amazing family pub that we will definitely return to!

Superb pub, what a find!, perfect service and atmosphere. Came here for an impromptu lunch. We were warmly greeted and offered a table despite the pub having a large booking. Good selection of meals, and the ham, egg, and chips was faultless. All the time the service was as good as any fine dining restaurant. The pub has a semi-outdoor enclosed area for events and a lovely garden complete with outdoor Green Egg BBQ area. Highly recommended.

We were 10 adults and 4 kids visiting for a Sunday lunch and a birthday. Everything from the booking and pre ordering to service and quality was fantastic. I've been before and I will be back again.

Been here numerous times. Very good quality pub food, I guess even Gastro pub level though I dislike that term. Given the quality, it is more expensive than standard pub grub but worth it. Service is good and attentive. It is regularly very busy and therefore there is much murmuring hubbub which can impact on dinner conversation but to be fair, that is the same anywhere. Recent glazing in of the outdoor seating area is a welcome upgrade. One thing though, the custard jug needs to be 2 or 3 times larger than it currently is. Use the gravy jug size for custard too!

Having visited many times for lunch with my mum, we brought my family for Boxing Day lunch. Food was excellent, staff friendly and atmosphere was great! Highly recommend!

We didn’t have food just a quick drink. Very much set up for food though and it was super busy and very it’s great to see so many people out and about spending and supporting pubs!!

I could write an essay on how fabbo thos place is but I won't. Just visit to find out yourselves how amazing everything is. Wow.

We booked an extended family of 14 for Sunday lunch and the food and service was exceptional. Talented chefs and great front of house staff made it a lovely day for my dad's 85th birthday. Already looking forward to coming back in the new year

Looking for a great pub for food and atmosphere this is the place! Had an evening meal here on the way to the coast and liked it so much we came back for breakfast. Staff were amazing, friendly and tentative. Dog friendly with lots of indoor and outdoor dining, plenty of room for the kids to roam about too. Will certainly be back!

EDIT 19/11/2023, we were invited back to try again (on the house- sweet gesture) I must say this was the best experience here so far so, blankets for outside dining, roast beef was delicious, service was exceptional - my previous concerns were just a blip in service! We’ll continue to come back ! ——— This was our 4th visit on a Sunday early evening in the past 2 months. For context, the previous times were great in terms of service and food hence the repeat business. This time was a disappointment. We booked for 18:30 online to have an outdoor table. We arrived and the outdoor area was shut, fine, but it wasn’t acknowledged. We sat indoors and had a coke each. The coke was very weak and you could see it even without needing to taste it. We asked for replacements and they explained they needed to replace the syrup as it was running out. Ok. Our roast beef arrived and the parsnip was dried out and inedible, couldn’t even cut through it, the carrot was part-cremated, The greens were undercooked - barely blanched. The cauliflower cheese was flavourless, I’d say it was missing the cheese. The potatoes were few, I think I had 3 tiny ones on my plate. The gravy was lovely though. We ate what we could and by the time we finished our roast our drinks arrived. Ordered puddings as we were still hungry. The puddings were ok! Paid full price plus the 12.5% service fee for below average service and the dregs of what the kitchen had left. If the kitchen can’t provide consistant quality food then I’d suggest to limit the amount of covers for the day. Maybe this was a bad day but I made the comment about the roast quality to the lady serving us so the kitchen had the feedback but no one seemed to care. It’s a real shame as I’d rather put my hard earned money into the pockets of family run, independent businesses but I don’t know if I’d spend another £70+ for two people here. There’s better cooked food for better prices elsewhere.

Started and finished a ride here. Top food, service and beer in lovely decor and plenty of space - inside, outside and in the car park. Definitely coming back.

Absolutely stunning makeover for a hidden gem! We are locals and visited a few years ago, and it was nothing compared to what it is now! The new huge expansion and development of a traditional country pub, but created for the modern demands of customer experience of great food and local produce, captured by natural beautiful surroundings is a 10 out 10! The staff were really knowledgeable and very helpful. The service was relaxed, and the new extension we sat in was really impressive, and the garden area was picture-perfect for anyone whether socially with family, or friends or romantically, this pub would suite anyone wanting to visit a real country pub tucked away off the beaten track. The menu offers up some mouth-watering delights, and they have specials every day and offer gluten-free options, which is clearly marked. The portions are very generous but plated up with care and foodie flare! We enjoyed every mouthful. It's dog friendly, with free ample parking, and I can imagine this pub will be a hot spot for locals and outside visitors for many years to come. Highly recommended!!! Come rain or shine. Love this place but service is so slow, and we are never asked if we want more drinks or anything extra.

Menu not as good as it used to be. Haddock dry. Do you have a different chef, now? A pity. Hopefully, better luck next time.

Fantastic country pub with delicious food and great setting. We had a group of 8 including 4 kids and everyone's food was excellent.

Visited for Sunday lunch. A roast at £21 needs to be good, and it generally was. Loads of veggies done nicely. Beef was well cooked but lacked flavour. Roast spuds underdone & flowery. Had to move tables as the accoustics in the glass roof room are awful, a large noisy group meant we literally couldn't hear ourselves.

Fantastic lunch yesterday. Great service provided by Cheryl and Khalid. Mediterranean main dish finished off with, sticky toffee pudding and a flat white. Significant refurbishment of the pub just coming to an end so looking forward to a repeat visit very soon. Thank you once again.

Probably the best pub once been to. Staff are friendly, helpful and professional. The food we tried was the lamb bbq with pita bread and it was delicious. The gardens have been well thought out and designed and the bar area welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended

Honestly all I can say is the team have got it right! …The staff are super friendly! The atmosphere is warm! The food is amazing! The garden is beautiful! It’s my go to place to celebrate dinner or enjoy a dog walk and a drink. Thank you again guys will be back soon
