Visited sometime ago & it was good, but tonight fantastic. Service attentive & prompt, food was delicious & hot. Chef must be congratulated on a superb chicken vindaloo, which sometimes can be mundane, great flavors as well as the heat! Will be back & hope the high standards continue .

Travelled in on the way back to Berkshire..food was a huge disappointment. Asked for a chicken tikka bhutwa. Chicken was dry. Sauce very oily. It was literally served to the table in 10 minutes from my order time and was just plain old dry chicken. My partners shashlik was not good either. One peshwari nan forgotten too that was then rushed out. Garlic nan asked for well done wasn't good either. Sadly the staff didn't listen and it was nowhere near the standard I expect of a Nepalese restuarant. Overall appauling. Can only assume the reviews I read are from people that haven't eaten Nepalese or gurkha cuisine before or they have lost a couple of chefs. Hugely disappointed.

As a vegetarian, I always think a good way to assess a restaurant is by ordering a vegetarian main dish. If it contains uniformly cut frozen mixed veg (which I don’t use at home, so to my mind shouldn’t really have a place in restaurant cooking) that’s one strike. Sadly last night’s takeaway (veg dhansak) was also watery, under-seasoned and tasteless. The sag paneer side was ok but again, no depth of flavour. Onion Bhaji were good and very generous portions but I’m afraid we ended up throwing most of the meal away. Very disappointing given the reviews.

Outstanding meal. Best I've had in years outside of India. Memories of home (I was born and brought up in India). The staff were freindly. The service quick and the food amazing. Highly recommended.

Din not pay my salary for one month I have worked in this restaurant for about 15 months. I am supposed to get one month's salary but I have not been paid. Now that I quit, they won't answer my messages and phone calls. It's not 2024 it's 2023 the remaining balance. They are cheater.I cant recommend any job seeker.

Update to our initial review. The Gurkha Spice is now well established and a go to location for locals. The proprietor knows most regulars by name (and there is a hard core of regular take away users as well). We have visited many times now and our experiences have always been really great. The staff are Nepali and are very welcoming but the main reason you go is for the food. Menu items look similar to mainstream ones in a few cases but with more intense, rich flavours. You get taste rather than heat and apparently all ingredients are locally sourced (apart from the Gurkha beer). There are also some unfamiliar dishes which really are worth trying. The Momos are amazing with a zingy taste. The Napalese specials are worth trying (Pork Bhutawa, Masu Pudina, Achari Ghost and Garlic Kukhura in particular). All in all, unpretentious surroundings with amazingly tasty food at good prices. Really worth making a special journey for. A bit on the outskirts if you are visiting Winchester but only a 30 minute walk from the High Street.

We have recently moved to the area and thought we would try this restaurant. The booking process was very easy online, and upon arrival the staff were very friendly. Throughout the meal the staff were very attentive. The food was fantastic, every course tasted fresh and the range of flavours were well balanced. We will definitely be going back to this restaurant. The momo dumplings were very good!

I live in Winchester and have a Gurkha spice every weekend. It’s such excellent food, and fairly priced which makes our weekly takeaway the highlight of the week. The chicken dhansak is honestly outstanding, one of the best I have ever had, and I have had a few! All other dishes are brilliant of what I have seen. Always cooked fresh, doesn’t take an age to prepare and always well presented. I haven’t ever had a bad experience since this restaurant became ghurka spice. The owners are welcoming, warm and friendly, and my 4 year old loves going down there for a free chocolate while we wait. You don’t get better than ghurka spice.

Very good food to the table in 10 min

Having an overnight stay in Winchester and decided to go here based on the Trip Advisor reviews. It was a bit of a hike from where we were staying but it proved to be well worth it. The food and the service were both first class. I would definitely recommend Gurkha Spice.

We joined friends again last night for supper at Gurkha Spice. We were treated by the manager and staff like VIPs and the dishes we selected were as delicious as ever. I am particularly fond of Nepalese cuisine, with intelligent use of spices to create delicate flavours (as opposed to some Indian dishes, which often over-use 'sledge hammer' spices such as cumin). Gurkha Spice sits near the top of the league for Nepalese dishes, and our friends are very lucky to live within walking distance of the restaurant!

First time at Gurkha Spice and had a very nice evening with my wife. We’ll be back for sure.

Tasty range of interesting food, good service, great atmosphere.

I had watched the great reviews for some time, so when we got the chance we popped in for lunch, we were not disappointed. We had a lunch menu each, at £12.99 it is very good value for money. We tried the chilli chicken and onion bhaji to start. We had the chicken Karachi for main, rice and naan. We were so full we could only manage coffee for dessert. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Mango lassi was great, so were all the curries and naans. Really great service as there was a large group of us, but they managed it well.

Really nice little find this one, I happened to randomly give them a go and WOW! Curry/flavours amazing with really warm welcome on arrival. Can't comment on the atmosphere as collected takeaway but all very pleasant in the short time I was there. Will be back.

We have had a lovely meal in Ghurka Spice, Weeke. It was all very genuine, home cooked food. The staff were very friendly & it was a nice atmosphere. We loved it & will take our family next time. The drinks, wine & beers are just right to go with the various meals. We can't fault it.

I ordered a takeaway for the first time tonight (28/09/23) The phone was answered promptly and the man on it was pleasant and helpful. Not only was he knowledgeable but when I placed my order, it arrived before the expected time. When it arrived, It was piping hot. The food was amazing. I will definitely order again. Thanks guys. 😊

The food here is delicious and the service was great. I can highly recommend the Garlic Chicken Kukura and stuffed Paratha. Looking forward to our next visit.

I have eaten here 4 times now in the last 3 months. The manager and staff are super friendly and attentive and always provide excellent customer service I am gluten intolerant so am sensitive to any wheat or barley products. Each time the food has been cooked with this in mind but the quality is superb. No issue with any of the food. Just ask for Gluten Free ! Excellent , I look forward to the next visit

We had take-away of Goan fish curry, chilli chicken and chicken dumplings, they were delicious! Would definately recommend.

Really delicious meal, with plenty of fresh herbs and spices. Everything was full of flavour and nicely balanced. If you eat here, take the plunge and go for some of the Nepalese dishes. Momos and Goan fish curry especially good.

On the owner’s recommendation I had the Gurkha Spice Special Lamb and it was excellent………hot but not overpowering. My wife had the lamb biryani which was also brilliant as usual.

We were looking forward to our takeaway, especially given all the great reviews. Unfortunately it was really awful. Pre-cooked, dry chicken in a sickly sweet sauce (tikka masala) and the other (jalfrezi) had no fresh chillis or peppers. Whoever cooked this has no idea about good Indian food.

Ordered take-out. Decent portion sizes of tarka daal, jeera rice and what passed for Raita. The reason i say this is because Raita is traditionally salty and as they have mentioned on their just eats menu, it was supposed to have cucumber, coriander and cumin in it. Instead of this, i got plain sweetened yogurt. For 3.19 pounds. The dal, rice were ok.

Rang ahead to enquire about vegan options and was told that they offer NO vegan options whatsoever! The vegetarian options didn't look too promising either. Come on guys this is 2023....

A lovely warm welcome when I arrived and great service throughout. Perfectly looked after Cobra beer. A delicious Gurkha Lamb speciality dish and one of the best Saag Paneer that I've ever had (I order this everywhere I can). I count myself very lucky to have this restaurant relatively on my doorstep, and I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone should visit.

What a fantastic meal. I went here with my Mum who lives locally as I was visiting her. The proprietor was there to greet us and he clearly cares very much about his business. And it shows. The staff were fantastic, working under his supervision. The food was fantastic. Such lovely flavours, all beautifully presented and we loved our dining experience. The restaurant is lovely, staff wonderful and food fantastic. I highly recommend Gurkha Spice restaurant and we will be return customers in the future. Thanks and well done 👏🏽.

Lovely place, very good service. It's quite new and refreshing to have such a good menu using great spice. I ate alone as away for work, so had vegetable Byriani and Takka Dahl with green chilli and a plain name. Cooked quickly and delicious

Lovely Nepalese with excellent food. New restaurant and ownership etc since late 2022 and it is our new favourite Nepalese/Indian restaurant in Winchester and even better we can easily walk there :-) try the fish curry or special lamb! Momo's or pakoda balls to start!

We visited Gurkha Spice for a weekend lunch. The set menu is very reasonably priced with good portions and very tasty food. We would recommend it and plan to return.

Went on Tuesday 28th December. Quite and the staff were attentive and polite and quality of the food was the best I have had in years.

Mid week visit, very welcoming owner . The restaurant is tastefully fitted out with relaxing back ground music and its well heated. The food was excellent, one of the best Chicken Dhansaks that i have had in a very long time, very tasty thick sauce with the lentils properly cooked down and lean Chicken. Chicken Sag was equally good and not running in oil which seems to be the case in a lot of Indian restaurants. Can not fault the rice or Chapatis either. If i had to make one recommendation it would be that they serve a less runny Mango Chutney. Very enjoyable meal...

Yummy food! Such delicious food, this has been our third time since it’s been taken over from Balaka and wow such friendly service, with great tastes across the menu. Try the chicken momos! Meat is soft, and sauce is tasty. All fresh, what a great chef. This will be our regular!

Had three takeaways from this lovely restaurant in the last couple of months, and each time it seems to exceed our expectations. A good range of flavours and nicely balanced dishes with plenty of meat (unlike many in Winchester who seem to economise on this aspect!). Vegetable dishes taste very fresh. Friendly service.
