All the positives first.. great service, the bar staff and waitress were great! The wine was lovely (Chenin blanc) and really well priced. The pub itself is homely, welcoming, clean and traditional. The Ladies loo is an example of the attention to detail! Starters were soo good.... the mushrooms with the bread and sauce and teryaki beef. Perfect! The mains were just ok. The slow cooked pork 'special' was a very thinly disguised rehash of Sunday roast dinner, flabby fat, and dry sliced pork, a portion of typical sunday veg. The sauce was very nice, as were the roast potatoes. But not as you would expect a slow cooked pork dish in sauce would present. The fish and chips were disappointing, fish dry, the chips soggy and coated, i'm not sure they were hand cut. I'm also not sure but I would say the vinegar was watered down. However the batter was really nice and tasty. Not ones to waste food we did eat most, so not inedible.

We have over the years and pre covid visited the Fox on a regular basis. The owners are delightful and have been ever since we’ve been going there . The selection of beer is always varied and kept brilliantly, the wine is exceptional and is very well priced, compared to other local establishments. We quite often have Sunday lunch there and even if we haven’t booked the owners always some how find space for us . However after today’s experience at 6.30pm today I doubt we will be going back there for some time . They have a really rude female bar assistant working there . Dogs have always been welcome at the Fox , and we were rudely told to put ours on a lead even though the pub was virtually empty , not a problem, but perhaps there could be a sign saying so !! Even the owners keep their lovely old retriever off the lead ! The rather rude bar assistant then made a rather derogatory remark about me to her male colleague , thinking I couldn’t hear and was quietly told by her colleague to keep her voice down , at that point we paid our £42 bar tab and left . I wouldn’t dissuade anyone going to this lovely pub , but I’m afraid we won’t be back for some time . In fact the same bar assistant was very rude to us once before when we had a great Sunday lunch, but she messed up the order !!!

Great to be back at The Fox. Nice warm woodburners, tasty and delicious food which arrived in a reasonable time despite being massively busy. Pies were to die for as were the mushrooms yum yum 🤤. Staff were polite and patient, almost saint like despite having to deal with chronic moaners that were out for free meals. Yes it’s an old pub but it’s a free house. No it doesn’t have a baby changing room, but the staff will go out of their way to provide a baby changing mat and somewhere with plenty of room. Always been accommodating. Yes it’s low ceilings and the odd step here and there. But it’s character and it’s cosy and homely. If you can’t handle that, stick to your Wetherspoons or crypt. Keep it up folks! Will be back again before Xmas for sure!

Reserved table at 1.30pm. Food took 45 mins to arrive. Told the pie was chicken. When it finally arrived it was steak. Bit burnt on top. Liver and bacon dish: liver was tough. Fried mushrooms were cold inside. Ordered three hot drinks. Waited ages. Only two arrived. Clearly short staffed - especially in kitchen - and/or took too many bookings. Pub was cold. No heating on, just a fire nowhere near our table which wasn't enough on a chilly day. Miserable experience.

We came as a family group for Sunday lunch. Food was well done and roasts came out quickly. We were in at 12pm opening and it quickly filled up. One big point for us though was the lack of baby changing facilities. This meant that we had to cut our meal short to be able to take our 1 year old home to be able to change him. Ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend to families with young children and we will not be returning.

I attended with a group of friends and I am that nightmare customer who needs both gluten free and vegetarian. I rang the pub the week before to see if they could cater and they promised to get some gluten free veggie sausages ahead of time. When we arrived the bar staff were great, friendly, efficient and helpful. They were also ready with the chef’s suggestion of a special dish (stuffed peppers) that was both veggie and gluten free just for me. It tasted great and I was so relieved to able to eat with my friends (the Eton mess was also gf). Fab service but I think only fair to give them notice.

It's fantastic to find a proper country pub, with wood burner and great atmosphere combined with very good food. Rare these days. The Fox clearly has someone in the kitchen who can cook fresh food rather than just raid the freezer and warm things up. I had calves liver with colcannon and a great gravy. The liver was perfect, tender and tasty. There was a good menu with specials on the board. I thoroughly recommend it.

We had a chance of a night off from caring for Dad. We booked for Saturday dinner, overnight stay in one of the Shepherds hut, Sunday breakfast in a basket, and Sunday lunch. The Pub is lovely, service amazing, efficient and polite, the food was excellent, really delicious and quite reasonably priced!! The hut was sweet and comfy, great view out to the apple trees too! The only issues were the cleanliness of the sleeping hut and toilet hut, and the little (lacking) touches. But we decided maybe it was because we went out of season. One of the bottles of water was seal broken and 3/4 full, a kettle but no mugs.. we used the glasses! The milk pods out of date. The chairs outside the huts were dirty and had soaking throws / pads. And the breakfast had cereal but no milk. Still worth 5 though as we had a great time. Will go back again 100%.

Went for lunch yesterday as a party of 12 and had a lovely meal. Food and service were both excellent. Highly recommended.

Booked a table for 8pm, we were seated at 8.10pm to a freshly cleaned table. That's the only good thing I can say about the experience. I must admit I was expecting Nepalese dishes, everything on the menu can be found at your local Indian restaurant. One dish, the Chicken Chilli and I quote from the menu, a touch of ketchup in gravy or dry. We had to ask for the menus, then we had to ask for our order to be taken. I then had to ask at 9.20pm,(an hour and twenty minutes after entering) if we were in fact going to be severed, 10minutes later our food arrived. During this time my friend had finished his drink, at no point did the waiter ask if he would like another one. The plates were cold, the food was so salty it was inedible, there was no spice to either curry and the naans were bland. The restaurant did not have any heating, when it was -2 degrees outside, guests were sat in coats or scarfs and hats. Back to the freshly cleaned table, due to the cold temperature it remained wet for twenty minutes. We were later informed the landlord was refurbishing the heating system that's why it was cold in the restaurant. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone.

We thought it was good but no more. The staff were very polite and attentive. Excellent sourdough (although would of been nice to be included on a £49.95 for 3 course lunch) and cracking pigs in blankets. Cured trout was a lovely light starter. Beef fillet although accurately cooked lacked the wood fired characteristics. A fillet really doesn't have enough time to get flavour from the wood fired oven due to its size. Other larger cuts of beef with some fat would be a better choice. Accompanying veg were ok but the cauliflower cheese again lacked any of the advertised 'wood fired' flavour and cheese sauce a little thin. We also thought this recently when dining in the Avenue restaurant what a shame there are no real local sparkling wines listed. Yes Ridgeview is in Southern England but some 70 miles away. You've got excellent quality producers like Black Chalk, Hattingley Valley, Louis Pommery, Raimes, Candover Brook and The Grange all within 10 miles.

I paid for two lots of afternoon teas £49.50 They bring me out one afternoon teas, for me and my children. What they gave me is not worth and over priced what a rip off, I was not happy about it. Just be careful buying the afternoon teas. I met some nice customers in there. I won't be going back the third time. What a rip off. Not good at all.
