An end of Summer family visit for a Sunday roast and pudding afterwards. This pub has been consistently excellent over the years and is our go-to place for a decent meal. Always a no hassle attitude and they're always ready to help. It really makes a difference for us. The fact this place is dog friendly is so special! Really nice pub with good food and friendly staff with a really chilled out atmosphere. The Sunday roasts are amazing. The lunch menu during the week is equally mouthwatering. The staff are really hard working and polite. Best pub in the area easily!

Very nice country pub, nestled in the small village of Sparsholt, nice setting clean and tidy, staff very friendly and approachable, good selection of drinks, roast dinner was my choice very nice well cooked meal although a bit expensive for a roast of that size and deserts were a bit expensive too. But given that it's out the way a bit could understand the price increase. The main issue was I wasn't asked about if I wanted to pay the table service tip charge which added 10% on my bill unexpectedly and feel this should have been stated by the server other than that a very nice and welcoming visit to a hidden gem of a pub.

We had the chicken roasts. Very well cooked. Vegetables. Not to soft or hard. Service was very good. Friendly staff. Only thing I would say is it's a bit over priced for a Sunday Roast and the quantity given. I don't think nearly £6 service charge should be added tho. But would try it again sometime.

Lovely pub! Food great, service great. High end prices, but worth it. Spoilt at the end when asked, quite abruptly, why we had taken off the disrectionary service charge, that gets added automatically. It was everything you'd expect it to be for the prices, why do we then get made to feel bad when we can't pay extra for tips. Shame

Stopped here after dropping off cat at a cattery close by. Didn't know the area but then we saw The Plough and spontaneously decided to stop for a drink. Ended up having a meal. Food was lovely and staff too. Lovely to see families in the garden enjoying themselves. Also dog friendly and there was even a dog menu and biscuits at the bar. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we will return even though we come from Newbury.

Located on a quiet oad off Sparsholt village, this pub has plenty of parking. Access to and from is from two points. Loads f outside seating. Kids/family area. Inside good sized tables/seating options. Inside is slightly on the dark side. Everything is clean and tidy, including the toilets. There is a good food and drink options. This pub does don't accept cash. Very popular and so there are times when food waiting times can be quite long, so be timely if you don't want to wait.

We were staying in the area on our honeymoon, and this was the closest pub to our lodgings. It's an absolute hidden gem! We were made very welcome by the landlady who even bought us both a drink to celebrate our wedding! The food was pricey (like most things these days!), but most definitely worth every penny! We left with full bellys and fully satisfied! Our only regret was not returning on our last night. We tried another pub of which was more expensive and no were near as good or welcoming. This is the place to go! We are very much looking forward to returning on our 1st anniversary!

Our first visit to the plough in 8 years after living overseas. Fair to say this pub isn't what it used to be!! Under the previous ownership you got restaurant standard amazing food. Now it's another freezer to fryer pub like too many others in the UK. Friendly staff but the food just not good enough, salad leaves were not fresh and just dumped on the plate with no dressing. My partner paid 16 quid for what was mainly a bag of rocket. It's a shame as the pub used to be fantastic, might pop in for a beer when cycling through but I won't be having food here again.

Food was ok but not great considering the price. We ordered 2 fish pie, £17.50 each, it should be called potato pie instead. I would say the dish consisted of 10% possibility fish and rest is just potatoes. We gave the feedback to the lady serving us, she kindly took 1 of the fish cake off however I still feel this is not deserving of the price £17.50. The venison sausage and burger was good, I would recommend. The service was not good, 2 course meal took far longer to be served. After our starter was taken away, we had to wait another 40 minutes for the main course. When we asked about our main course the lady at the bar attitude was extremely defensive and uncaring, the same busy excuse was used. I really don’t think we should have paid for the 10% service charge of £11.68. Finally the cutlery provided to us was not even matching, there was no side plates or butter provide with the bread. Very disappointed with the overall service and food quality. We decided to get the bill and leave straight after main course, not recommended currently till further changes are made by owner/ managers.

Very disappointed - bland tasteless expensive food. This would have been 2*s but the manager managed to raise it to three stars at the end with her interaction with us. In short the pub is beautiful and would be a great place for a drink but sadly the food was completely under seasoned and very disappointing especially for the cost of the food - which was on the high side. When we mentioned the lack of taste to the waitress she appeared to handle it really well by saying how important it was to get feedback and she would pass it on. We were therefore expecting the manager to come over and have a conversation with us but sadly that never happened. The issue was never mentioned again and when the bill came it was for the full amount. When we were leaving we mentioned our disappointment to the manager who was very apologetic as this was the first she had heard of our issues (the waitress had not passed the message on). She kindly offered a refund for the mains but this was not what we had been after - all we wanted was an acknowledgment that things had not gone as planned. It looks like the Sunday roast is brilliant and we might give that a go but don’t bother with the main menu.

We thought it was good but no more. The staff were very polite and attentive. Excellent sourdough (although would of been nice to be included on a £49.95 for 3 course lunch) and cracking pigs in blankets. Cured trout was a lovely light starter. Beef fillet although accurately cooked lacked the wood fired characteristics. A fillet really doesn't have enough time to get flavour from the wood fired oven due to its size. Other larger cuts of beef with some fat would be a better choice. Accompanying veg were ok but the cauliflower cheese again lacked any of the advertised 'wood fired' flavour and cheese sauce a little thin. We also thought this recently when dining in the Avenue restaurant what a shame there are no real local sparkling wines listed. Yes Ridgeview is in Southern England but some 70 miles away. You've got excellent quality producers like Black Chalk, Hattingley Valley, Louis Pommery, Raimes, Candover Brook and The Grange all within 10 miles.

How can you mess up a Ploughman’s Lunch? Come to the D&C and see. Microwaved half baguette that went dry, crisp and stale immediately. Cheese was appalling. The worst type of cheap, tasteless, doughy cheddar. Pork pie that was missing the pork. We will not be returning.
