Quite disappointing. Staff friendly and attentive, but lots of repetition of different members coming and asking the same questions. Had to wait for a table despite a reservation. Staff apologetic, which was fine. Menu wise, no Wellington. Ordered some other dishes, two of which had rosemary fries. Five minutes later was told they had run out and only had fat chips. Food when it arrived was fine. Then dessert menu came. I ordered a fudge and chocolate dessert, only to then be told that wasn't available either. I didn't like any of the other few desserts left on the menu, so went without. The menu wasn't extensive, so to have several items out of stock by mid afternoon have put me off making the 45min trip there again.

The most amazing Camembert, beautiful, silky, so full of flavour! Nothing will compare to the Camembert here, the bread is amazing and crunchy on the outside beautifully soft on the inside. I would come back just for the Camembert alone but the staff, atmosphere, regulars and food are second to none. Beyond worth the money ❤️

We were travelling from France on 2nd Dec and wanted to break up our journey home. We found The Bush Inn in Ovington through social media on UK pub stopovers for Motorhomes. We knew we wouldnt get there till around 7.30 and had booked a table to eat and stay in there parking area for the night. There was a hold up on the motorway and Jenna and the chef very kindly organised food for us after a few phone calls. We enjoyed very tasty food when we arrived of good quality with a lovely bottle of wine. They couldn’t do enough for us and we would definitely visit again when in the area. They are very dog friendly and very welcoming. The parking area for the Motorhome was level so no ramps required. We woke the next morning and had a magical walk along the river Itchen alongside the Bush inn, the bird life and setting was truly special. Highly recommend. Well done The Bush Inn 😊 🐶

Both myself and my husband went to the bush on the 19th this month for what we thought would be a lovely lunch. Waited a long time for the food which we had to eat because we were hunger it was cold and very small portions for the money when we complained we were given 10.00 off a meal that cost 70.00 . Will Never Go again it’s an insult to serve such food at that price and cold.

Returned after 50 years. Nostalgic visit to this place after around 50 years. Came with my parents when I was very young, but remembered the tranquility beside the river. This evening, Jenna, a lovely south African lady served me steak pie followed by sticky toffee pudding. It was just lovely. Nice 😎

A beautiful, old pub in the midst of the Hampshire countryside, with wonderful walks nearby. It has a cosy, welcoming ambience with very friendly staff. For many years, the food was outstanding. Sadly, it is now so-so quality at high prices. For example, my burger at £17.50 was over cooked and dry, the bacon full of tough sinew so virtually inedible. My friend’s chicken sandwich was over £12 but had hardly any chicken.

Feeling hungry on our way home from a day out, my wife did a quick google search for pubs and came up with The Bush. A quick phone call to see if they had a table spare and we reset the sat nav to get us there double quick. The Bush is a quintessential English pub, hidden away in the stunning Hampshire countryside. Walking through the doors we were delighted to see that the owners obviously value the charm and character of pubs of old. This place instantly feels cosy, homely and welcoming. The kind of place you're reluctant to leave! The service was outstanding. Attentive, polite and genuine without being overbearing. The food was freshly prepared, served in good time and delicious. I will happily take a detour to go back to The Bush and will be recommending it to all my friends.

Lunch was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and delightful. We both chose from the specials, I had trout and my friend had chicken supreme. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but the lovely waitress actually came and said that the chef had asked her to tell us that it would be ready in 8 minutes!! Well, I can honestly say that it was worth the wait. Perfectly cooked fish and chicken, we both agreed that it was truly delicious and very good value. I am looking forward to going back.

My partner suprised me with a trip here for sunday lunch but have to say it wasnt as amazing as id have hoped, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the ambiance was glorious ! my roast dinner was very small not a lot on the plate at all tbh, the yorkshire pudding was very over cooked, i had to ask on 6 occasions for extra gravy as it was in a tiny tiny little jug, my partner had the mixed roast (beef, chicken and pork) there was more fat than meat on the beef and the chicken was the smallest chicken drumstick you ever did see no actual chicken meat, there was also a charge for extra stuffing (which we didnt get anyway) i really was expecting something better as we heard great reviews about this place and i was really excited to be going but unfortunately it wasnt as expected - but we did have a nice walk around the grounds by the river. Would i come back here ?? Probably not, its quite a drive from basingstoke and would have to be so much better than that to make the journey again. Thank you for fitting us in at short notice and great service.

We've not been to The Bush for a few years but were in the area one Saturday Evening. I called to book a table for 8pm but was bizarrely told that wasn't possible but 7pm was OK - as if we would have eaten up and left in one hour! When we arrived there were just three tables taken and by the time we left just two. For a Saturday night alarm bells were ringing. Quite a few meals on the menu were not available. I opted for fish and chips and the fish was tasteless. The rest of the family were equally unimpressed and we left without dessert or a second drink.

What a great place to go after a walk along the river.🐟💧🦆🦢 The Bush Inn - You are welcomed by the old beams, quirky rooms and something a little bit different in terms of the shapes, style and the oldness of the building. The pub inside hasn’t been spoilt by the over painting or the removal of the historic value of the interior of the past. We were blown away by the validation of the people of the past still being included in the present day of the pub. So many pubs have lost this! You could easily imagine seeing the villagers of the past sitting at the bar and chatting together whilst enjoying a drink. We were welcomed in by the friendly staff and took to a table by the window- radiator on and cosy , the fire was lit, in the smaller room however people were enjoying this already; we hopefully, will get to sit there another time. Can’t beat the feeling of an open wood fire.🔥 We were left for a few minutes to get settled and then waitress brought over the menus for us to look at. What a selection of food to eat- we liked the option of the nibbles we could order instead of a starter, however we ordered nibbles and a starter because we were excited by the different options to try, and we shared this between us and our friend. This was not a disappointment, we loved especially the lightness of these dishes and the way it was presented. Once finished we then waited for about 30 mins for our mains to come . We had an apology from the lovey manager as she said there would be a slight delay, but we didn’t mind as we would rather it was cooked with care and enthusiasm rather than a stressed out chef, Thank you for telling us, nothing worse than a long wait without the communication. 👍 The wait was worth it, delicious steak pie and gravy, the steak and chips just melted away in your mouth, the curry was delicious and not too hot, a lovely addition to the menu. Yummy 😋 We didn’t have pudding as we were stuffed after our main , so we will try thoes next time. Can’t wait. We asked for the bill and were offered a quality chocolate out of a posh box, to send us on our way. 😁 We felt cared for, looked after and overall had a good experience. 🤩 The Bush Inn wasn’t packed but had enough people in to spread the atmosphere of the people that were chatting, certainly reminded us of the past, an unspoilt pub that with ongoing support from locals and visiting tourists as the year goes forward ,we are sure will help keep this special place alive and the pub will go from strength to strength. Thank you for a lovely visit- we will be booking again. 🤓😎 Cheers T and D A final note, the garden at the moment is in winter mode, however in the Spring and Summer, the view and atmosphere of being next to the river will draw you in for a packet of crisp and a pint of your favourite drink and if you got enough time - have a meal! 🍽️ Wishing the team there lots of luck with the year ahead. 🤞

We said never again after last time but circumstances prevailed and we ended up here again . What a total disaster but at least the radiators were on , fire just a pile of dead ashes of course and about one degree above freezing as usual .First to arrive but taken through to Siberia back of the last room away from any warmth , dead daffodils in vase with no water , then gradually filled up with extremely noisy families ,parents even louder than kids talking at decibel levels that made it difficult to chat , service slower than slow as usual and food was just about edible Luke warm and at least an hour wait for main course. If it was my husband and me we would have walked out to start with but awkward with our friends who didn’t want to make a fuss .Think it’s busy because of location but sadly and badly run . Never again .

The setting is lovely. On this visit at the beginning of October we took our Canadian family there for lunch. I can’t remember what we each had, but everyone seemed more than happy. I must praise the twice baked cheese soufflé! Love them. This was a hearty version with a rich bacony sauce. Gorgeous. Thank you Guy (the chef). Hope it’s still on the menu?

Lovely pub in a lovely spot. Staff were good. Ambience was good. Food unfortunately very hit and miss. Steak and Ale pies were good. Mushroom starters were mean and dried. Vegetarian option for main was a massive bowl of pasta with a tasteless sauce with almost zero vegetables (supposedly asparagus and broccoli) which unfortunately is a fairly usual cop out. We have visited many times over the last 30 years and suspect the pub relies on its location too much. The quality of the food needs some serious attention.

As I have been publicly accused of lying by this business's management in their response to my original review I am forced to repost. I would like to make clear that both this and my original review were an honest, factual account of my experience at this establishment. I am not lying. Three of the five dishes we consumed were among the worst dishes I have eaten in a British pub. The seasonal vegetables (pic attached) and the padrón peppers were unseasoned as per my original review. This is not a lie. The seasonal vegetables dish was also one of the worst meals I have been served anywhere. The business's response also implies that because we finished two of the three offending dishes and did not complain on the day this must mean we actually enjoyed our food. We finished two dishes because we were very hungry on arrival and the starters took a prolonged period to arrive despite the pub being nearly empty on a Saturday lunchtime. It was purely a reflection of our hunger and the length of time they took to arrive and not the incredibly poor quality of the food. I did not complain because I am English (a national character trait I suspect is highly advantageous to this business) and was with my elderly, disabled mother on her birthday weekend and did not want to upset her even more than her food had already done. I am intrigued what ill-advised, offensive response they may make to this review or whether - faultless from a public relations perspective - they will now publicly apologise to me for both our food and their original reply. Or, failing that, maintain a dignified silence.

I had the lamb shank for dinner. Lamb in most forms is best served pink and rare; however, lamb shanks need slow, low-heat cooking to render all the masses of collagen to delicious jelly and leave the delicious meat dropping off the bone. Alas, not...

Warmly welcomed. Menu not hugely extensive…..Starters we both had vegetable soup. Maybe a bit more seasoning wouldn’t have gone astray but tasty enough, with warm bread. Roast beef and Vegetable Wellington. The Wellington was fairly flavourless but plenty of tasty veg. Partner’s roast was tasty,...

Have been wanting to visit for a while since the new owners took over after many recommendations from friends. Finally got to visit and was not disappointed. Took my parents for lunch. The food was amazing, service impeccable and the renovations of the building are fantastic. Looking forward to revisiting soon.

I just can’t see how their prices are sustainable. Charging over £4 for a flat white with oat milk is outrageous, so I won’t be returning.
