Greens Restaurant & Bar in Winchester

Had a great evening with friends at Greens Restaurant it was disappointing not to see many people dining at this restaurant as we all found the food excellent and the service was great. We are all look forward to going again . John.

Can't comment on food but the atmosphere, wine selection and complimentary glass of fizz made our evening

Food was nice and the staff were attentive and friendly. The red wine was well chilled, so could have been warmer to give maximum flavour.

Food is really nothing to cry home about, especially when they charge so much! 2 courses for over £30 and then most items also have a supplement charge! I found the supplement charge quite insulting and it’s something I haven’t seen before. Roast has the standard dry meat, boiled veg and the universal gravy…sticky toffee pudding was the only saving grace despite being obviously microwaved.

The staff here are wonderfully welcoming, as well as making sure that everything throughout the evening was all good. The food was also delicious and well presented. will be going back.

Such a lovely place to visit with kind, welcoming staff and a great atmosphere especially in the garden. The team go the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble. I cannot wait to try the food! Much better to visit than the other places in Wickham Square.

Remember this restaurant prior to covid being awesome. Sadly came for mother's day lunch to treat my mum and mother-inlaw and was very disappointed. Quality was lacking as was presentation and attention to detail. Salad was wilted and the cured salmon was dry, clearly been plated up hours before as was the veg so overcooked and dry I couldn't believe how bad the veg was. No check backs on starters or desserts despite having to swap one of the dishes. had to leave the table numerous times to find staff for any assistance. A real disappointment to a great memory held of the place, clearly a very distant memory it is. It's understandable food may be prepped ina dance when having a busy restaurant but take some pride in what you are serving. There's no excuse for items missing from dishes, wilted salad and over stewed veg. Upon payment not even asked if everything was alright or OK woth the meal or experience, food was poor as was the service. Shame as the majority of the staff are young and very green and in need of some service training, my advice to the management or who seemed as management (older lady and gentleman) focus on standards and training, and if a customer says something is preped badly its not an argument or a debate..... just correct it. You should be embarrassed to serve some of the quality you served on mothers day, I know I would be as a waitress or as a chef.... you don't deserve the job title.

The best meal I have had in a restuarant. Very friendly and accommodating. I had black pudding, crispy bacon and pouched egg to start, very tasty and a perfect, runny poached egg. I asked for the chicken without the Stilton and mushroom sauce because I don't like Stilton. They offered to make a special mushroom sauce, the whole meal was hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. The staff are friendly and polite but not intrusive. The food is a bit more expensive than other restaurants but worth it for the quality of the produce and presentation. I never review restaurants but felt that this one deserved the effort.

Getting to be a regular here and love the welcome family atmosphere. Staff seem happy knowledgeable and keen to make your visit the best it can be. Food is always that cut above alternative eating establishments and worth the wait as this place fills up to the brim and you must book a few days ahead. Do say if something is not quite right. I reluctantly mentioned a minor detail and was made to feel welcome the issue more than resolved and no fuss. Thanks guys. They deserve a medal for the sterling effort to keep going all through covid and now as we start to feel safe out again. Food great as usual. Thanks.

Consistently fabulous! We've shared many a birthday celebration, work lunch, NYE's and the in between lovely nights out with friends and family. It is the perfect cocktail of gorgeous food & wonderful service. Thank you team Greens!

A nice pub, unfortunately the experience was ruined by the terrible attitude of the barlady. Rude and unwelcoming this was our first and will be our last visit to the pub. We then went to the Square Cow which was fantastic. On speaking to some other customers it appears our experience isn't a one off. Until there is a change of staff I would avoid.

Phoned up and reserved a table, to be fair there was a few left, however it is still covid time and thought it was best. New staff tried very hard to be efficient. We had a lovely lunch, the roast became a duo, but was well cooked. The turkey was moist and the beef medium rare. Drinks were lovely

Our first time at Greens eating we were not disappointed. Celebrating a friends birthday, the service from the moment we walked in, to leaving impeccable. The Menu wasn't too over bearing, it had just the right amount of selection; and when it arrived, superb. A great choice of Wine to choose from. Thank you. Will be coming back for sure! .... and a year later we did return, after lockdown and into their gorgeous garden today. Wonderful service, thank you Carol and the young chap who was also helping, so professional. Good menu, good service, social distancing excellent, perfect. We ate here for our family celebration of our Golden Wedding anniversary, our party comprising two vegetarians, one vegan, two junior age boys, and two meat eaters with very different tastes. Every one of us was very pleased with our choices, which exceeded expectations as we felt the setting and atmosphere was somewhat traditional. There were two vegetarian / vegan options for mains, both of which proved very enjoyable. A kids' menu was also offered, which suited our six year old very well. The meat eaters had their personal favourites, steak and lamb. Service was efficient and pleasant, though I would have preferred the staff and the owner to wear face coverings, comparing unfavourably with a nearby restaurant we visited two days before.

Burger was tiny it looked lost in the roll, chips were ok, but over priced for what we got, seating area outside was nice, service was slow and they brought the wrong dish for my daughter, below average experiance

We booked for a family get together and as we were taking a dog we booked for the garden. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meals (burgers, risotto, Sea Bass & steak) and the puds were all lovely. The service was superb and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Bringing out rugs etc as the evening got a little chilly. Would absolutely recommend.

Five of us for lunch, we had to wait a little while for one couple to arrive but we weren't rushed to our table which was nice. Stayers arrived i' no time and were superb. Main courses of roasts all round were well received. Some of the party had puddings which were very good. Wine flowed and we left as it got dark so overall a good lunch.

Family meal for 6. The restaurant staff were really welcoming and the owner was delightful. Everyone enjoyed their food choice. Especially impressive since my sister has eaten scallops in fancy hotels all over the world and said that these were the best she had. Husband's burger was just the right side of pink and my lamb with Lyonnnaise potatoes etc reminded me just how much I like Lyonnnaise potato. This sounds odd but I couldn't not fault it.

We had an amazing time visiting Greens. We had drinks in the secret garden and delicious food inside. Service was excellent and we couldn’t have hoped for more on a rare night out. Thank you!

Met on arrival by a female not wearing a mask. Taken to a small area of 3 tables; one for 5 (already seated), one for 4 (no-one seated) and one for 2 which was ours. I felt uncomfortably close to the table for 5 and assumed the table for 4 would remain vacant, it did not. Within half an hour 4 people were seated,. There were too many people seated within this area, though an external door was opened. From what I could see, diners on other tables were similarly seated too close to each other. Food was, as always, excellent. Dessert was brought to the table by Carol who, besides not wearing a mask, managed to place herself as close as possible to us both while placing the dishes on the table. To cap it all, the waiter who took payment, removed his mask to respond to a question, Due to all this lack of COVID security, I felt very uncomfortable and anxious. We left as soon as possible, with the intention of not returning anytime soon. Very disappointed.

The pub seems well versed in their Covid procedures and my wife and I felt very safe. On to the important bit, the food. It was phenomenal. I started with the scolops with black pudding.... amazing, well cooked, personally I would have had the black budding a little less done, but was tasty none the less and beautifully presented (it looked so good I forgot to take a photo). I know this is a personal thing again but my lamb was perfectly cooked, slightly pink in the middle and melted in the mouth, the seabass was also lovely, tasted fresh and again fell apart, it was lovely and moist and had a lot of flavour, beautifully complimented with the sauce. The sticky toffee pudding was also very moist and not too sweet. The pub itself has a lovely homely feel, im not sure if it is family run, but it certainly has that feel to it. Very warm and inviting.

So before lockdown started we ate here for the first time with friends for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. The menu was just perfect and not overbearing, service excellent. So lockdown happened! Today we returned to their gorgeous secret garden. A wonderful Sheppards Hut in the garden, good distancing between tables, wonderful service provided by Carol & her team, good menu again not overbearing just the right amount. Love love love it here ... highly recommend it.

Sunday lunch in the lovely garden overlooking the water meadows. I had a nut roast roast, also ordered was a beef and chicken roast. Arrived steaming hot and well presented. It didn't disappoint and tasted perfect. Although already full, we all had the sticky toffee pudding - I think its the best I've ever had, it just melted in your mouth. Can't wait to return. Finally out of lock down visited Greens wonderful beer garden, they have outside serving with a shepherd's hut, great views across the meadow. Lovely staff, great food and drink and nice atmosphere. Can't wait to return.

Lovely restaurant. We went for Sunday lunch . The food was very good. The service was excellent friendly and polite. All in all a very enjoyable lunch .We will definately be going again.

The restaurant is very cold, we won't go back until the weather warms up. The food was just ok this time but in the past it's been better so I'll still give them four stars. Chips used to be very chunky but looked like frozen, maybe due to lock down just ending.

Been to Greens on many occasions and never been disappointed. The roast beef dinner was perfect , sprouts were a pleasant surprise , for me , not the wife !! . Had a good chat with the land lady , very professional and taking every Covid precaution necessary, we felt very at ease and would highly recommended going . The food here is always top class with top class service . Please support these establishments, they need us at this unprecedented time .

Just eaten the best ever lockdown pizzas from Greens. These were especially cooked for us after I raved about them so much during the last lockdown. These are seriously the best pizzas I have ever eaten in the UK and worth every penny. Seafood pizza has big chunks of white fish, shellfish and olives. Meat Fest was piled high with cheese and crispy Parma ham. Veggie one had yummy chunks of goat cheese, mushroom and red onion. Thank you Carol for the bespoke service. It is appreciated.

Delicious lunch for 3. Warm and welcoming. Carol and her well trained staff have adapted to provide a Covid safe environment without losing their lovely ambience. Well done, we will be back.

Visited on Saturday evening with my partners parents. Carol is always so friendly and welcoming which makes you feel at home. Had the pigeon for starter, sea bream for main and apple crumble for dessert, all were delicious! Great wine followed by an espresso martini. Will be back as soon as lockdown is over!

We always try to visit Greens when nearby. It’s our favourite restaurant in the area. Just wished we lived closer to enjoy it more often. Popped in 25 October for late Sunday lunch after a day out and we weren’t disappointed. My partner had salmon and crayfish starter while I opted for goats cheese and caramelised walnut salad. Both were delicious. I had the nut roast for main served with all the roast trimmings inc Yorkshire pudding. My partner had roast beef which also was cooked to perfection. Served with a selection of veg including cauliflower cheese. All so hearty and filling we couldn’t manage a dessert. We always find it a friendly and welcoming service with a nice warm atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff are attentive but not over the top. We had a late sitting and even though we didn’t finish till after closing time we weren’t hurried out. We’ll be back. See you soon Carol & Greens.

Disappointed with food and service was slow. After reading reviews was expecting more. Concerned as not really complying with covid rules. No direction from owner or staff when you enter re track and trace or hand sanitizer etc. Owner walking around without mask on. Waiting staff standing very close to tables. Table was sticky so not clean regularly.

Fantastic food, wonderful presentation and great staff ... what more is there to ask for? We asked for a quiet spot as two of our party are a little hard of hearing, not that it's ever a noisy place to eat, and this was accommodated perfectly. Everything is entirely C-19 safe too, so it was a very relaxed and enjoyable evening.

Food was nice enough, just not wow. Service was pleasant, although social distancing was not really observed. The whole evening was fine with no complaint, but for the prices that were charged in comparison to other restaurants I would have expected more. It just lacked a little finesse.

Went in for pre booked Sat lunch. Quiet which after being there is a real surprise. Totally Covid safe compliant, excellent staff and the food is amazing value and quality. I rarely give 5 stars but was left with no choice. Steak and Ale pie to die for!

After a family walk in wickham on a very hot day, we decided we needed a drink and a spot of lunch. We headed into the square and came across this. We were welcomed by a member of staff, lots of distancing, hand sanitiser available and felt very 'safe'. The restaurant was fairly quiet and as it was a beautiful day, we were invited to sit in the garden. Finding the garden was a little tricky but it was very beautiful and the owner was already in the garden who was just fantastic, spent time talking to us, lovely with our children and couldn't do enough for us.We have two fussy kids but the kids menu was great, with a 2 or 3 course option which is ideal and lots of choice. As a vegetarian, i ordered a goats cheese salad which was a starter so she offered to make it a main meal which was great. The food came out quickly and was honestly so delicious! Meals were clearly made fresh and we all had an empty plate. The goats cheese salad was amazing, and my partner had the gourmet steak burger which he said was delicious. The kids meals were lovely especially the fish. The toilets are spotlessly clean as is the rest of the restaurant and the garden area is beautiful.The place isnt the cheapest we've ever been too but was honestly worth every penny as we had such a lovely afternoon and we would not hesitate to come back - the owner being so friendly and lovely just made it even nicer - thank you so much!

We have just visited this restaurant we had the goats cheese salad and the salmon and crayfish salad omg it was amazing 10 out of 10 we are on holiday and we will definitely be back spotless amd clean and staff are so friendly massive Thankyou.

We tried, on the off chance of being able to pick up a take away at short notice, on a Sunday, and sure enough, they were obliging. 30 minutes later, a very pleasant lady put two beef roasts into the boot of our car, ready for the 15 minute drive home. The food was still hot enough when we got home and ready to eat. The beef was beautiful, as was the veg. More than we normally pay, but it is a restaurant that is offering restaurant standard take away food. All in all we were very impressed with the food and the service, and it was good value for money. Would we use it again; absolutely we will. Thank you to the Chefs and staff for providing us with a wonderful Sunday roast, in these difficult times.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Frank and Carol for looking after my partners Mother over the last few weeks. They have been providing takeaway meals on a regular basis, all of which have been great quality. Just what is needed for someone who is unable to get out on her own to get food etc. Great to see a local business supporting their local community. Thanks again to you both.

With a number of local restaurants providing a takeaway service during their closure, my friends and I decided to try Greens. We all ordered fish and chips. This was collected, paid for and distributed to our various households where we are in lockdown.Our disappointment could not have been greater when opening each parcel. A piece of badly cooked soggy fish,no more than 4 inches in length was revealed. We thought they had forgotten the chips, but underneath the fish were 8 overcooked small chips.The meai was probably the worst,and least, we have ever had. We chose fish and chips as a simple meal to cook. What could go wrong? I ask, was this a rip-off in difficult times or just meanness? I have been told that this restaurant has been good in the past, so was it incompetence? We have since had excellent, and cheaper meals, from another local pub/restaurant.One thing is sure, we will not use it again during the crisis and it is very unlikely we will go there afterwards.

Had a business meeting in the snug area before lunch, the tea was not great and cold very quick. Also the pot size is poor, literally a 1 cup and some dregs. But we then had lunch and it tasted great. Sea Bass was brill and so was the fish and chips. Service a bit hit and miss, our water was forgotten and the old lady behind me who keep making noisy smells was not pleasant but that is lunchtime in Wickham. To be honest I wish it has been busier as there was a lack of atmosphere here, I had the same thing last time which was eary evening but the food and wine was spot on so I would not hesitate to come back, even if I have to check smelly bum is not sat near me next time.

What can we say except 1st class food plus service. The scallops were cooked to perfection the best my husband has ever tasted, the flavours devine. Then he had surf and turf still great flavours. He said the flavours were dancing in his mouth. Felt really full but couldn't stop eating. Myself I had the muscles in garlic wine sauce even finished the sauce with the lovely freash bread. Next course I had the Sea Bream on sweet mashed potato, samphire and crayfish tails in a great sauce. The flavours all complimented each other. The owner was very friendly and chatted to us for a short time. She sat us by a burning log fire. Hope to visit again when we come down from London. Don't change a thing. Loved it all

Expensive, but Food is fantastic

It’s been a little while since we were last at Greens, however, the food is as good as I remember. Service is first class too.Varied choice on the menu with some of the starter available as bigger portions as mains. Wouldn’t hesitate in going back. I would highly recommend Greens.

Visited for lunch on my Birthday today. I love this place! The food is top quality but it’s not stuffy or snooty here. We have visited a few times over the years and the service and food are always fabulous. If you love fish and the one you want is not on the menu, they will go out to the fresh fish shop and get it and cook it for you. Lovely place for lunch, dinner, Mother’s Day, we’ve done the lot. You won’t be disappointed

Greens, is the most welcoming, warm and wonderful place to visit.

Six of us gathered for a family supper and although the pub was quiet, service was prompt and efficient. My wife's fishcake starter was the size of a large saucer, and much bigger than any fishcake I've ever seen. She reported that it was good. My steak burger came with triple cooked chips, which were crunchy outside and fluffy inside - just superb! Two three course meals, a bottle of merlot plus coffee and a cognac came to £50 each, with which we were very happy.

Fabulous 4 course set christmas meal.... great wine list, fantastic service.... definitely recommend...

Green’s is on Wickham Square and although it was very busy there was some car parking, but it should be mentioned that the machines are coin operated and 20p pieces are necessary. After a warm greeting we were shown downstairs to our table next to an open wood fire which was most welcome on a blustery wet day. Chris opted for Naked vegan burger with red lentil, courgette, cashews & field mushroom, triple cooked chips, salad & chilli dip, Jayne-Ann and Ann both chose Sea bass fillet, spinach, sweet potato mash, crayfish tail & white wine sauce and I went for Bowman's ale battered haddock with hand cut chips, garden peas & tartare sauce. We decided on sparkling water to accompany our lunch which arrived in quite good time. We were all delighted with our choices. Chris said her burger was delicious, Jayne-Ann and Ann said their sea bass was excellent and my Bowman’s batter was lovely and crunchy with a a super flavour, encompassing a tender succulent fillet of haddock with excellent hand cut chips. We couldn’t manage desserts, so finished with Americano coffees. Service was attentive and efficient and the entire meal was very good value. It was worth the drive through pouring rain on a gloomy day to spend a really pleasant lunchtime eating a lovely lunch with friends.

A reputation that did not fail to deliver, bustling atmosphere and nothing rushed at all. A very friendly welcome when walking in was continued throughout our visit, we had 5 roast dinners which we all agreed were delicious, 5 empty plates returned. Desert delicious and very generous portion size. Never at any point did we feel rushed or that we had outstayed our welcome...... Will definitely return.

Good food and drink , limited selection of hand pumps but what was on offer was good local beer. Would recommend
