Tried the Sunday lunch, what an underwhelming experience. Completely tasteless, the leek and greens completely masked any taste the thinly sliced pork might have had. Roasties were hard and probably frozen ones warmed in the oven. Complete waste of money. Lovely garden so will go back for drinks but pass on the food thanks.

Really good food and service that could not be faulted. This pub is a little off the beaten track but is well worth the effort to visit, it also has an excellent selection of beers. We arrived as it was getting dark but it looked to have a really nice garden for the summer.

What a shame, was really looking forward to Sunday lunch at the reopened Hampshire Bowman (we have been regular visitors here over the years). A limited menu (no issue with that) was limited further by two dishes not being available. This resulted in one of us just having a bowl of chips for Sunday lunch - not ideal. Food portions were much smaller than we’ve experienced here in the past. Roast was ok but expensive for such a small portion. Apple crumble consisted of synthetic overly sweet apple filling (not homemade or tasty) - all three portions ordered were sent back (and refunded without issue). Beer and drinks were good. Toilets dirty. Service was great and quick. Best stick to drinks for now until the food improves.

Great to see the Bowman open and fully functional once again. Fantastic friendly and attentive staff. Clutter free and now very clean. Improved range of beers particularly some from the Flower Pots. Outstanding improvements across the board except the food. Early days but there are no specials on the board, always a highlight of the old regime. The base menu is limited and similar to many average pubs put pricing is on the high side. I went for the safe option of a burger and chips £17. Dry and limited in flavour. Disappointing. I love the Bowman and will return. I won’t try the burger again but will try to find something that appeals. I hope they address the food issue otherwise it will simply be a stop off on a walk. That would be a shame.

Been a long time fan of The Hampshire Bowman and can comfortably say that the new owners have kept the rural independent feel whilst introducing a fresh and vibrant character to the place. The ales are crisp and dogs welcome. My only tip: call ahead! Even weekdays can be surprising busy so best to give them a call.

Great to see this local hero back up and running. Walked over for a few beers for the grand opening weekend. Not disappointed. Predictably excellent line up of local ales and family atmosphere made for an amazing trip out. Didn’t try the food but it looked pretty good. Despite being very busy we got our lunch in good time from the welcoming friendly staff. Bowman Swift One was in great condition. Food is wonderful value and prepared with skill and care and have to mention the generous portions too. A lovely well maintained garden is available for alfresco eating and drinking if you like. My husband, cousin and I went for lunch. There is a big car park so no issue with parking. Our meals were great. We all had different things and each meal was super. I had homemade steak and kidney pie with fresh vegetables and mash. The pie was delicious with loads of meat and a nice thin pastry. The staff looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. My cousin is unwell. The staff know him and were very understanding as his mobility is poor. We reserved a table and we were near the door which was perfect. We were visiting my cousin so it’s not our local as we live in Maidstone and he lives in Bishop’s Waltham. I can thoroughly recommend The Hampshire Bowman. You won’t be disappointed. It's not in the middle of nowhere. It's on the edge of somewhere. Proper country pub with an ever-changing selection of real ales and ciders, and great food. (The kitchen is currently closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but this may have changed by the time you are reading this, so it's worth giving them a call to check.) Massive garden for the summer months and proper log fires for the winter. This is a mobile phone free zone... If your phone or tablet makes a noise, or if you make a call indoors, there's a fine to pay to charity - it's one of the dwindling number of pubs where conversation still rules. That's not to say you can't use your devices there - they even have WiFi - just keep them on silent. They have a selection of board games to play if that takes your fancy too. Very much dog friendly and located in the middle of prime walking, cycling and horse riding country. Stunning sunsets. A fantastic pub.

What I also like about the pub is no mobiles phones in the public bar, so people do tend to chat to each other rather than being on their phones. First visit since before Christmas so we thought we'd go on Wednesday for the fish and chip deal. Gone are the lovely staff we remember. Despite being asked if we wanted any sauces they never came, the room was quiet with only one other table occupied as opposed to the buzz there has always been in the past. Have they all gone somewhere else? We will from now on. Very sad. End of an era?
