The best restaurants in Sonning Common South Oxfordshire South East

Not often that a pubs food is as good as it looks on Trip advisor, and tastes even better than anticipated! We booked for a large group for Sunday lunch quite last minute and were located in the very cool (but warm) garden tent and looked after very well by the team.

We visited to celebrate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of my parents-in-law as a party of eleven. Everyone loved the decor of the Greyhound and the service and food were faultless - excellent in fact. Nice relaxed atmosphere, busy without feeling cramped or forgotten and perfect for groups of all sizes. Thoroughly recommend.

Visited with friends as it's their local. Very good food large portions. Shame the landlord is moving on. The village will miss them.

The pub is enjoying a renaissance under new management. Excellent meals - hot and tasty. New tables in garden - just waiting for the right weather!

Best Fish and Chips I've ever had. Freshly prepared and cooked food. Nice staff and atmosphere. I Would highly recommend it to anyone.

Escondido en el corazón de la ciudad, The Tandoori Connoisseur es un auténtico restaurante indio que promete un banquete para los sentidos, desde sus especias aromáticas hasta su cálido y acogedor ambiente. I used to drive to Sonning Common when I wanted a Chinese because Henley's Chinese take aways were so poor. If you chose wisely, the Hot Wok was ok - never first rate, but good enough. But some menu items have always been poor, and the overall standard seems to have declined since the 'front of house' staff changed. About one week ago, I dropped in and ordered special fried rice, Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken (I avoid the pork here) and spring rolls. I got home to find I'd been given none of the above, but instead a cold, clammy bag of chips, two portions of sweet and sour chicken balls, and a portion of chow mein. It was by then after their closing time, so I had no means of getting the error rectified. The Chow Mein was the worst I've ever tasted - like something from the kitchen recycling bin, and the chicken balls were dense and dough-like. I ended up making toast and marmite, because the food supplied was completely inedible. And none of it was what I had ordered. I dropped in yesterday to complain, and the chap behind the counter recognised me, and knew why I was there. He offered no explanation, no apology, and no offer of a refund or a replacement meal. I double checked that he was not going to do anything about it, and walked out. I can only warm people that this place is capable of being both terrible and completely unapologetic. STAY AWAY!

Una vez más, otro almuerzo de domingo muy agradable. Una cálida bienvenida, deliciosos y sabrosos asados con proporciones muy generosas, y el chef salió a nuestro encuentro. Recomiendo a fondo.

Three of us had exceptionally good meals (and beer) with friendly and helpful service. My liver and bacon was a modern take on an old dish but it was most enjoyable and each item (liver, bacon, black pudding and mash) were perfect. We will come again.

No puedo comentar sobre la comida como haber llegado allí para el almuerzo con mi padre anciano nos dijeron que la cocina está cerrada los lunes y solo pastel y bebidas disponibles, bastante justo, pero había revisado el sitio web y llamé pidiendo reservar una mesa (ya que mi padre es mayor y frágil) como se dijo que no aceptan reservas, pero eran tranquilos, así que no hay problema, bastante molesto y el encogimiento de hombros y el comentario “así es como funciona un lunes” no ayudó. Deje claro en el sitio web al menos por favor.

Lovely little establishment had lunch with the children the staff were very accomadating and attentive lovely food and a fair price would definitely recommend.i now visit most mornings.

We went to the greyhound last night to celebrate my husband’s birthday , we had a fantastic evening all of the staff were amazing so friendly and very attentive! Special mention to our waitress Laura who was awesome! What a lovely young lady ! The food was sublime! I had the whole sea bass omg out of this world ! I cannot recommend this place enough , such a stunning restaurant in a beautiful location! We were just planning our return trip when I heard they were closing down in 3 weeks time , so disappointed and sad for the owners and all the staff what a shame what a sad loss 😞
