I went here for my birthday on 11/August/2024 The staff were very polite and very good at their job. I had the roast turkey it was very good turkey did not get any vegetables I ordered a prawn cocktail for starter a prawns cocktail comes in a glass with a big prawns What I got was very small prawns on a plate. It did not feel like a prawns cocktail. I ordered it to bring back memories of my childhood. I was disappointed with the prawns cocktail, would I recommend this restaurant? Yes, I would.

The Greyhound is a gem of a pub that stands out for its excellent service and family-friendly atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and attended to our every need with a smile. Their attentiveness and warmth were consistent throughout our visit, making the experience truly enjoyable. The children were delighted with the special table just for kids and they were brought out a very special chair . They had great fin and we go to relax.

I love this place, the service is attentive and the food, the best I had on this part of the world :-)

Found this place randomly whilst on a motorbike ride and very pleased we decided to stop. Service was excellent - staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent - easy to see how much care and attention is put into each dish. Would definitely recommend

This is a lovely pub. We went for Sunday lunch. It was all very good. I loved the wine list and was amazed to see Vega Sicilia Unico in the list - my first thought was next time I come I will have some until i saw the price. I know restaurants need to make a profit, but I can't reconcile why you would pay over twice what an expensive wine costs elsewhere. Anyway. We had a lovely lunch. Great atmosphere and sensibly priced. I will go again!

My family and I came to The Greyhound last week for my dad's birthday and all three of us said it was honestly one of the best and most special dining experiences we have ever had. The exquisite service from manager Alex and bar manager Jamie went above and beyond expectations and the food was impeccable. I had the very tasty Fried Duo to start consisting of Korean Buttermilk Chicken and also Crispy Squid, then the Steak au Poivre for my main which was so succulent and delectable. For pudding I actually opted for a couple of the after dinner cocktails which were absolutely delicious and made to perfection by Jamie - I definitely recommend trying these! If you are looking for a very special dining experience with first class staff/service and a beautiful environment then this is the place for you.

Lunch for four, two had the set lunch fish & chips, one baked cod and one wagu burger. All excellent, just as good if not better than when AWT was running the pub. The set lunch £20 for two courses was especially good value.

We had a lovely evening celebrating my mother in law’s 82nd bday. The food, service and ambience was just perfect and we will be back again.

I had high expectations visiting AWT's pub. I was not let down. The roast was top quality. We couldn't have asked for better service as they rearranged the tables for us to fit in two prams at the last minute with perfectly timed service throughout the meal. The pub itself is also beautiful and had been nicely decorated for Christmas.

Excellent service, cheesecake was to die for, drinks were amazing 🤩 service was also amazing really friendly staff - can’t wait to go back for my birthday in February!!

We chose the Greyhound for our family Christmas celebration based on previous experiences with AWT in the kitchen and Jane front of house. However our experience this time under new management was awful! While the food was still of a decent standard the service was diabolical! 2 of our party were 20 minutes late for the early sitting and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel under pressure to eat and get out. The manager consistently seemed flustered and the final straw came when at the end of the main course without request the bill was just plonked on the table without any offer of desert or coffees! We were also there a few weeks ago and had a similar experience in terms of service but gave the benefit of the doubt that it was just a one off, but clearly not. I’ve never eaten anywhere that would show this level of disrespect or rudeness and will not return until management has changed. Fortunately there are plenty of options in the area and I can’t see this place surviving while the current management are in place.

Went in for a Sunday roast, after waiting for a while we were eventually greeted and seated only to be told there are only three scotch eggs left, if you are wanting those, better be quick. Despite that, we placed our drink orders which arrived quickly and then we placed our food order, yes, including the aforementioned scotch egg. The soup was brilliant, as was the egg, both faultless. The main event, the waiting staff mixed up our dinners, not the end of the world. The potatoes left a lot to be desired, however when the waiting staff collected the plates we were never asked about our meal, like we were with the starters. After this we had to wait some time before anyone came over with the desserts menu which we declined and we weren't even asked if we would like another drink - which we would have had. Not the best experience, won't be returning.

We booked a table for two during lunch as we wanted to try this famous local restaurant. While located outside of Reading it's easily accessible by the local bus which is ideal if you fancy having a drink with your dinner. The service was great with friendly staff and prompt (but not rushing you) service between courses. The food itself was quite interesting, we had the Crab 3 Way for the starters and to be honest I was not sure what to expect, I'm now a fan of Crab Brulee 🤣. For Mains we went with the Venison which was delicious with it tasty sauce and crisp sweet vegetables. The Brill was a little bit of a let down, the portion seemed a little small and neither of us really thought it was superb, it was not bad, but equally not outstanding. For dessert we went with the 4 Selection Cheese board, this gave nice sized lumps of cheese, a tangy chutney and a variety of Bread/Biscuits/Crackers on the side. Would likely visit again when we next have a special occasion to celebrate.

Love this place, probably the best service I have received, friendly, knowledgeable really attentive. The atmosphere is really warm and quirky with different artifacts on the walls and ceilings. The food is just beautiful, the mushrooms stater is so tasty, we had the sharing tomahawk steak which was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend going here. The owner Anthony was sitting in his own restursnt eating the food so it shows you how good it is.

Absolutely stunning place for food and great time with friends to catch up. Amazing food especially steak! Definitely place to come back to! Great atmosphere without loud noise on the background so there is a chance to talk to your friends and family - whoever you invited for the dinner. Lovely interior and staff ! Fabulous place to eat and the cocktails are great. It is such a great location with a wonderful atmosphere. Though it was very good, as a 'top' restaurant with a celebrity chef's name it doesn't quite cut it. Service was absolutely faultless, friendly and helpful. My starter was superb and interesting. My steak however was poorly cooked with it over-chared on the outside giving the meat a bitter and burnt taste. The inside, perfectly medium rare. The vegetable portions are tiny and I don't expect to have to ask for extra hollandaise because what was given to me was miniscule. The puddings, whilst nice were unimaginative. But the real shocker was that they didn't accept American Express with both of us having to use our debit cards when we split the bill. The excuse being "they're fees are too expensive." Well for a lunch with no wine, one cocktail each at £90/head I think you are aiming for a higher clientele who will carry an AmEx card, your margins are sufficient and AmEx's fee are just the cost of doing business. AWT clearly is taking too bigger a cut.

Good quality food at a high price point. Starters were fantastic, mains variable ( my wife's tart tatine was a bit bland and the risotto over cooked but my surf and turf great). Cheeseboard very disappointing - cheese straight out of the fridge, chutney fizzy and no grapes or colour to add as an accompaniment. Poor presentation and no flavour. Overall slightly disappointing in the value for money side. Vegetarian options available but vegetarians may be put off by the hanging grouse and ubiquitous stuffed animals. (Some teddies, too, to lighten the mood,)

Always top notch food every time without fail. Surf ‘n’ turf is a favourite, but all the dishes that I’ve tried are excellent. Alex managing things front of house always goes out of his way to make sure everything is perfect. Recommended.

Had a wonderful meal here this week. The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was top notch. Set menu of £20-26 for 2-3 courses also looked very reasonable. I had the Trio of crab and then surf and turf then sticky toffee and all were fabulous. Service was so accomodating too. Highly recommend!

We had 2 delicious meals at AWT's The Greyhound over 2 days! We loved sitting in the garden, and the fit-out inside is so fun too. The staff were fantastic, and the cocktails were amazing. Highly recommend! Also, they had gluten free options for me, which is always a win!

Love everything about The Greyhound. Staff, location, ambiance drink and very excellent food.

Family dinner on a Thursday night. Was surprised how busy it was but delighted with the quality of the service. We all had starters and main course. No deserts. Lamb Shank was huge, my Hake served with a Spanish seafood stew was delicious, two of our party had steaks which they also found to their liking. We found good wine on the menu at a reasonable price. We would definitely return and can recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food with a varied and great menu. Very professional service and a beautiful atmosphere. Just a bit long wait between plates, but totally recommended.

Eclectic surroundings and very strong front of house make this a pleasure to be there. The menu is pretty steak heavy but good quality and well-cooked. My only suggestion to them would be to please have the lights just a bit brighter in the main dining room.

Outstanding food and such attentive service. This place is such a hidden gem!! We had ribs and salmon to start, then a filet steak for my husband that was cooked to perfection and surf and turf for me. The food, the setting, and the staff are all perfect! Highly recommend it!

Very cozy restaurant and great selection of grilled menu, all good portion and very well seasoned. A little bit disappointed about the fried duo, as the calamari could be better prepared. Drink selection is good and very like the pineapple tart tatin

Arrived at this lovely public house / restaurant in the cold pouring rain. The warm welcome our small group received certainly made up for the weather. We enjoyed a truly enjoyable lunch with fantastic service in beautiful surroundings. The wait staff were helpful and attentive without being pushy. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and at ease. I can not compliment the delicious food enough, everything was exceptional. Will without doubt be returning to The Greyhound in the future.

Have been here numerous times over the years but not since covid and unfortunately tonight did not match those previous trips. We went for my mums birthday as this was one of her favorite restaurants but she and we all left disappointed. Food was good but not the exceptional level it has been before but the service was what really let us down. Our dinner plates remained on the table for 25+ minutes after we had all eaten before being cleared because we stopped a server and asked for desert menus. We then waited 15+ minutes and nobody took our desert orders before we stopped someone else walking past and then we had to wait again for desert to arrive before sending it back. Dinner should not take 2.5 hours and feel like we are having to find the employees to place orders or have our table cleared. May have just been a bad night as previous trips years ago were fantastic or could be just how it is now

Now, First we went to the nearby Greyhound Inn, where a man was very rude to us and told us not to park in the car park as it was reserved (!!) Then when we said we wanted food he got very snooty and laughed at us saying " oh no you have to book a table to get in here" so we went to The Unicorn which was so different! Warm friendly and so accommodating. The menu was varied affordable and perfectly cooked. We sat outside in a lovely garden. The two young women who served us were called (I think) Rachel and Laura. Forgive me if that's wrong. They were so professional and knowledgeable.They described the dishes on the menu, looked after our every need, made sure we were OK without hovering and were both friendly yet polite. I recommend the staff of The Greyhound visit The Unicorn to see how it should be done. Visitors, avoid the Greyhound at all costs. Go straight to The Unicorn.This app made me put one star. The staff of the Greyhound were so rude I'm actually giving it zero stars.

One of the best meals I have ever had loved it

Sent an email asking for a table for 3 for 12:00 on a Sunday. Arrived at 11:45 to find the entrance to the garden closed and padlocked. A member of staff advised that as they served food from 12:00, the entrance would remain closed until then. Once we got in, it turned out the booking had been made for 4 and was challenged as to who made the error. Food was excellent, quick and well presented. Unfortunately let down by the welcome and staff attitude.

Expensive, although worth the extravagance; the finest food I've enjoyed for a long time. Substantial, yet light, delicate and delicious throughout. A birthday treat I'd recommend to anyone.

What an incredible pub and restaurant! They just have everything right here they really do. Had a pre-lunch drink in the lovely garden, great real ale. Lead waiting staff were on point and instantly make you feel at home. Starter of stream trout was just perfect combination of textures and flavours. Lovely wines too. Ribeye steak was unreal, AWT burgers for the kids too. Wife had the Sunday roast lamb which was the star of the show, not overloaded and every element just perfect. Creme brûlée and shortbread again on point. So relaxing and great service in harmony with awesome food. Just go there!!!

Sorry to say not a good meal, the staff were all excellent but the kitchen let them down. Despite specifying No Onions for my starter it was full of Red Onions. Then my main meal arrived, the Salmon was overcooked and the accompanying chips arrived later and had to be returned as they were obviously undercooked and still glowed white. By the time they returned my meal was almost over. The desert was excellent however. I do not like to post a negative review but unfortunately 2 bad courses out of 3 at this expected level of culinary excellence and associated price is disappointing.

I only popped in as it was the first pub I came across after dropping my daughter at a nearby paintball centre. I could not have been welcomed more. Initially all I wanted was a drink and to use the loo But after sitting on a very plush comfy sofa watching the staff meeting and greeting customers the smell of the food got me I only ordered a starter but have to say it was so delicious. I had the goats cheese and some lovely bread. It was great So to Josh and his staff. I thank you for making a mum on her own feel very comfortable and full of lovely food and a glass of vino Think I am going to drag my family and friend over for some food here soon Thanks guys you were defo a port in the storm xxxxxxx

Quite simply the most tasty and perfectly prepared mixed grill I've ever had, something special. Mixed with a Marlow IPA, it hit the spot for a cheeky lunch out locally, and I'm pretty picky!

Fantastic food always, though I find the 'unmade' dishes (roasts, mixed grill etc) in general less impressive.

Havent had a bad experience here yet. Food is delicious. Nothing but good. Spent most of lockdown either getting my coffee or roast from here. Im just sad i cant get my coffees and bacon rolls here on a Saturday morning. I like to eat vegetarian to save the planet sometimes so i knocked it down a star because of the vegetarian burger which is lovely but sometimes you want a simple Beyond Meat/Moving Mountains burger without the pomp and ceremony not just a Mushroom or piece of Hallumi. But as my Nan used to tell me - "you cant have it all dear, and the day you do have it all then its the day you wont want it at all"

The Greyhound is a fabulous combination of superb service, delightful venue and outstanding cuisine. The ambience is friendly and warm and this terrific place has rapidly wormed its way into our heart since we moved to the area recently.

Food very nice Unfortunately a very very rude female waitress made us feel very uncomfortable , luckily another gentleman took over and looked after us Whoever she was she needs to remember that my money is as good as anyone else’s!

Service was so smooth, we overran our time at the table so the waiters had made us some space in the garden for dessert. They checked on us often to make sure we were happy. The food was also great but my only suggestion would be to offer a bigger pot of sauce with their steaks. Definitely recommend going here!

Will cheerfully return. Could have easily eaten three or four of the Duck three ways starter. Main course and pudding equally delicious. Staff were the very definition of hospitable. All in all a treat.
