This is our local Chinese takeaway and we have eaten from here for a number of years and been incredibly impressed by the food quality. The service has always been great and the food delicious, but I’m afraid the last few times we have been the food has been of poor quality, the chicken has been questionable and the MSG content has been really high. Very disappointing since it was such a wonderful Chinese Take Away before. It’s a shame, and I can only assume that maybe it has changed hands

Great food & service, love the salt & pepper crispy chilli squid

We had come away for the weekend and arrived late on the Friday night. The hot wok was one of the few places open. We got a friendly welcome and they sorted our takeaway for us very quickly. Comfy little waiting area to sit in. We weren't from the area but it seemed regulars were coming in to pick up there orders. Definitely worth a visit for a takeaway fix.

We come from Caversham to have takeaways from here because it is the best cooked and tastiest Chinese food locally. Always friendly on the phone too.

Very slow service, cheery man though

Staff were friendly and really happy to swap sauces, mostly tasty, hot and good portions but let down by really doughy undercooked batter around chicken balls. Shame as the rest was really good.

No good no tasty!!!! I did not receive what I ordered no good service i am the one who is not happy 🤬

We have just finished our takeaway from Hot Wok in Sonning Common tonight. It was absolutely delicious! In general the whole meal was perfect.would thoroughly recommend it! We will be using Hot Wok, Sonning Common more often 26.08.22 update! We have just had another fantastic takeaway from Hot Wok in Sonning Common! Yet again another amazing meal. Great value and really delicious food! In my partners words?..blxxxy beautiful! Cannot recommend enough!

Great take away food every time

We had an absolutely delicious meal here last night - the food was really hot, fresh and so tasty! Very generous portion sizes. The BBQ ribs, shredded beef, chow mein and black bean tofu were the best of any takeaway we’ve had. Very friendly staff and would highly recommend! Thank you!

I love Chinese food so when i moved to the area i tried this place in 2015 - it was terrible. So in 2017 i gave it another go hoping management had changed and i was sadly disappointed. Then went again in 2021 and what an awful experience. Food took about 35 mins and was not great. Have yet to find anywhere in the area that does good Chinese. Gave it 2 stars because the lady was friendly.

Some dishes are wonderful. Seen a few people in the shop without a mask on so will order before hand to avoid ignorant people

Hot Wok has become our usual Chinese TA. I found it is the best of the bunch locally.

I ordered from Hot Wok for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and have since been fixated on eating from there again! My son's family have been coming to Sonning Common from Henley just for "the best Chinese takeaway" and I'd totally agree, having tried it. In fact I am about to order dinner tonight! 😋😋

Another vote for the salt and pepper squid from this place. Delicious! Their dishes are tasty and generous with no skimping on prawns or meat. Has improved over the last couple of years to become my favourite chinese takeaway.

last time i had a take away from hot wok was 6 months ago and was terrible , tonight is the first time since then with new owners and it was actually worse and more expensinse , you have to be joking.will stick to go sing caversham

This is our local takeaway and I rate it quite highly. The food is piping hot, fresh and tastes nice. It can get very busy so get your order in, in time. One thing I have noticed, I have eaten Chinese takeaways from other outlets and woken up at night and had to drink lots of water. Not from here though, they obviously don't put masses of salt in.

We have long been customers of Hot Wok, 23a Wood Lane, Sonning Common, and Its precursor Yeungs. We have not normally had any concerns, but twice recently we have found meat in our food. (We are vegetarian, and always clarify this when ordering from restaurants and takeaways.) On the first occasion (maybe a few months back) I returned with a sample and the assistant agreed that the fragment appeared to be chicken. We had a polite discussion about the possible causes, and thought no more about it till a couple of weeks ago. On this later occasion, we again found a fragment of what appears to be meat in the takeaway food. I have retained a sample. If one was a carnivore this might seem trivial, but if for whatever reason a person does not eat meat then this is a serious matter. Next time glass or a cockroach maybe? Yeungs was better.

Main dishes were very good, sweet and sour pork and Kung Poa chicken. The rice, egg fried rice, noodles, chow mein, were not exceptional but good enough with the main food dishes. Service was friendly as fast on a busy Friday night.

Excellent takeaway. Great ribs, excellent beef, tasty prawn curry. Cut above your usual Chinese Takeaway

Very very slow service when under the smallest pressure. Meal for two was ordered for 7.00 PM. Finally got it at 7.25 PM!

I have been in the village, and until today have never tried the hot wok until tonight. Will definitely be returning

Sadly has let it's "Scores On The Doors" rating drop from 5 to 3.. No real excuse for that, so I'm afraid I need to drop my rating from 5 stars to 3 as well.

Council environmental health rated as poor for food hygiene. Please improve guys and we'll come!

Friendly staff good service nice food.

Large portions but quality of beef very poor. crispy beef way too tough to chew, same as another beef dish. Padded out with the cheaper ingredients. I won't be going back, Yeungs was much better food.

Pork balls too stodgy and special fried rice over cooked

Easily the best takeaway I've had in years. Very friendly staff and great food. Would recommend to anybody.
