I was introduced to this cafe by Ashfield Kitchens, another 'hidden gem' in Handcross. Great atmosphere, superb coffee and the cinnamon buns are out of this world, not to be missed or ignored. Finally the friendly, busy, staff are the secret behind the success of this wonderful cafe. Go out of your way to visit. Thank you. S
I’ve been wanting to try this place ever since they featured on a BBC program. I was not disappointed. I arrived with a friend and my wife, both Bajans originally, and my dog. I thought erroneously my small dog would not be allowed in but she was welcomed in. It was late afternoon on a Sunday so maybe that was in her favour as the restaurant was quiet.
The food was outstanding. I chose brown stew chicken with rice and peas. It also come with fried plantain which was a bonus and a small pot of coleslaw. The chicken was succulent and tasty, a slightly sweet savoury sauce covered it which was soaked up by the rice. The coleslaw was also as is the tradition, slightly sweet but this was offset by a little sprinkle of brown mustard seeds giving a buzz of pungency which hit the spot. My fellow diners had the grilled tilapia and the escovitch fish. All three dishes were of generous proportion. The vegetables medley with the tilapia was aromatic and had a well-balanced growing heat from chilli.
Unfortunately due to lack of time our group had to forego a pudding. That will be for next time.
A lovely evening enjoyed with excellent cooking and great bonhomie from the staff.
While I do agree with all the wonderful comments regarding the food, service and general friendliness I would strongly advise anybody who is getting sick to death of cyclists taking over a place to steer well clear.
Sadly the cafe has been ruined by hoards of them who are not just contents with taking over the inside by moving tables about and shouting at each (other thinking they still have helmets on) but now lean their bikes up against the new Flower boxes, windows and outside tables making it impossible to sit anywhere.
I do understand the financial considerations of this particular type business but as other cafes have now discovered this could be at the detriment of regular customers who will of course spread the word to others.
Really sad that we had to walk away yet again today as we simply could not get to a seat either inside or out because of them so will not be returning.
Happened to see this and tried it, having never been to a Filipino restaurant before. The pork belly was really good, as was the kassave cheesecake (much more appetising than it sounds). The calamansi juice tasted great and was really refreshing.
Cosy and vivid!
This is a great cocktail bar in Worthing, and they don't just serve whiskey. If you're hungry you can order pizzas from PizzaFace next door and they'll deliver to your table. There are small tables and chairs downstairs, or sofas in the lounge upstairs. Friendly staff and table service - definitely recommended.
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere and service. We enjoyed a selection of sushi alongside the sea bass and beef with honey and chilli sauce from the hot menu. I recommend all of it and look forward to returning soon!
Comida deliciosa y bien presentada en un entorno agradable y acogedor sin pretensiones. La presentación también es extremadamente alta y los precios razonables.
Muy recomendable.
We ordered chicken chat puree and Tarka Dall for starters. Main course was Tandoori Chicken, Vegetable Korai with Mushroom Rice, Bindee Bahji and Peshwari Naan. They also gave us complimentary poppadoms and Baileys to finish. Can't complain at the xma'sday special price of £15 per person. Good service too.
