What a find. A hidden gem that’s well worth a visit. Food cooked fresh while you wait. Good size portions and at a good price.

Was in st Helens Saturday afternoon and pop in for a drink,the pub was unbelievable friendly and made very welcome, prices where really good at £2 pint of fosters and carling only 2.50. Pub was very clean with nice clean toilets has well,small beer garden outside which was a little suntrap.serveral tv's with football on.we where even offer some sandwiches 2 snack on.would definitely pop in again if in the area,thank you Vulcan we had a fantastic day

The best place to go for breakfast in St. Helens. Very reasonably priced and all cooked fresh as you wait. 10/10 would recommend (also sells things like steak nudgers, chips, pies etc)

In need of a major makeover and the food although cooked fresh was very bland and the chips dripping in grease and the 'cod' batter was undercooked and no where near crisp - very disappointed in every aspect unfortunately

The cafe is located next to the station great for food for the train. We order food for pick up regularly We get a breakfast my daughter loves it here Staff are lovely Great little cafe xxx

This is one of the nicest chippy around know big fancy meals just good old English food when you step inside its like being transported back in time if you want a great tasting meal go there

Order never arrived, when I rang they said they had knocked on my door at 18.05, checked my cctv no one had been.

supper fast service chips fish was lovely noticeds they have steam steak puding great would go back fish was cooked fresh as was chips ,very clean , very chatty want to get to no there customers ,was surprised to learn i lived 5 miles awy going to there chipp ,which i had read about being one of the best

19TH MARCH 2025. ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took both Hubby Neil and I to a new place….. ‘The Wheatsheaf’ in St. Helens. I proper olde Worlde pub full of sport memorabilia and photos of local businesses of days gone by, there is bad subsidence with all of the mining of yesteryear’s and feels like your walking down a slope but it definitely adds to the character and charm of the old pub….. it still has the old waitress service button bells on the walls around the top of seating areas….. where years ago you pushed the button to alert the waitress to your table to take your drink orders….. they may still work but I didn’t press it!!! Tempted though!!! Another great pub that serves proper homemade food and plenty of it too! Both went straight to entrée’s: Neil had proper homemade chunky chips, peas, fresh carrots and a HUGE suet pudding…… with thick, rich, glossy gravy and more in a little jug on the side. I had had the mixed grilled!!! It was HUGE! ‘Desperate Dan’ would have struggled to eat it….. Neil had to help me out eating it……and this is why! Rib eye steak, a full chicken breast, a massive pork chop, thick slice of gammon, two sausages, onion rings, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, chunky chips and two eggs!! I ordered a side of peppercorn sauce and a wheelbarrow to take me out in!!! Waiting time was cooking time, the two ladies that served us, sadly I forgot to ask their names, were very attentive, polite and made us feel welcome…… Thank you…xx This is an old pub, with old decor but that’s the style of this establishment…… the food was amazing and as you can guess, VERY filling, we were going to have starter too 😳thankfully we decided not too!!! Excellent choices on the menu, something for everyone. Would we go back? That’s a definite YES!

First time ever visiting this place, didn't realise they sold cask ale, managers very friendly will definately be visiting again

Some things are nice but never ever get the pork. I've given it about 3 chances and every time it's like tasteless leather. It's obviously been reheated, it really is inedible and must have been cooked days before. Beef is hit and miss. Fish is generally too greasy. Chips are generally nice. Can taste plastic in the gravy from the tub. Curry is nice, so is the rice. Seabreeze, if you read this please sort the meat out so its fresh because at the moment I don't know how you can dignify or justify selling shoe leather as food.

Good quiz tonight first time there tonight really enjoyed it definitely going again next week, well worth going if you like a wuiz
