Ramside hall hotel was fully booked. We needed somewhere in the local area, this was the first on the list. Excellent service, amazing food and great value . Even got a free bottle of prosecco as part of a meal deal, sweet! Lovely staff and lovely pub food. We had the steak and it was perfect 👌

Visited on the evening of Sunday 27/10/2024, 6:30pm. From the outset, there appeared to be problems with service, with a queue of people waiting to be seated at the restaurant reception desk. Order was taken efficiently, and we had the Steak Sharing Board for two, with a couple of sides. Some bread and butter were provided while we waited. The quality of the food was exceptional and could not be faulted. When we had finished, we had some difficulty attracting attention for our bill. We said we wanted to pay by card but no card machine was brought. After waiting for some time, we had to get up and stand around the restaurant reception area, almost to purposely get in the way, to get attention, and I had to collar a member of staff to say we were waiting to pay. In summary, food excellent, but the service - which may be due to insufficient staff - leaves something to be desired, and pulls down the rating of this review. Nevertheless, we would return.

Food was fine, certainly nothing special for the price. However, the service was very poor. Our waitress spilled water all over the table and told us she was get some paper towels to clean it up. She forgot, and was stood chatting to her friend. We had to go and get her before the water spilled over our legs. We were left with empty drinks and then couldn’t pay the bill. The majority of the room were trying to get the attention of the waitresses at this point but to no avail. I must add, it was not busy either otherwise I would be more sympathetic. To top it off, I had asked for a birthday desert for my partner, which was added to the bill, but not actually given to us. Very disappointing. Wouldn’t recommend.

After having been closed for a couple of years the pub is now due to re-open on the 31st October 2024. Greene King are saying that the re-opened pub will revert to it's former name of 'The Sportsman's Arms' (in recent years it had been named 'The Belmont'). I've given a three star (average) review as I haven't a clue yet what the pub will be like - I just thought it might be useful to post that it is re-opening soon but I can't work out how to post without giving a rating. I'm hoping to return with a five-star review soon!!

Now called the Charcoa Carvery since its refurb recently and I was impressed with the new decor which was luxurious and classy. The staff were pleasant and eager to assist and for all it was Sunday lunchtime there was no queu to get served and plenty of choice re seating arrangements for all we had not booked. I chose the turkey which was perfect and my family all had beef which they enjoyed. There was a good selection of vegetables (even salad if we had wanted it) but I did find it difficult to access the veges as there is nowhere to put your plate down and you need one hand to open the lid and another to serve the veges. Also the containers at the back of the vegetable servery were very inaccessible - this must have been designed by a very tall person with no regard for shorter customers and anyone with a disability or only able to use one hand would have been at a severe disadvantage. Also we never discovered the sauces until we returned to select our dessert as the sauces are set aside from the actual carvery and vegetable area. In the past you paid at the end and it was all the same price. Now you buy a ticket at the beginning but the meals are more expensive than the carvery selection so how do you know what you actually want until you are at the servery and by then its too late - you have either paid for carvery or paid for a meal so that is a strange set up I found. BUT getting back to the food and that was good, plentiful and hot. It is described as the 'ultimate carvery' and I think that is rather optimistic - its tasty and the ambience is lovely but a few practical tweaks in my opinion are needed. at the vegetable servery and make customers aware that the sauces are available. I enjoyed my trio of mini desserts and the assistant brought the hot drinks to the table when she had made them. A pleasant afternoon while the piano man played in the background.

I attended an awards ceremony from work. Setting was lovely and meal was delicious but the evening was spoilt by the astronomical bar prices. Every time we needed another drink it was like haemorrhaging money. Very disappointing as would make me choose another venue in future.
