Ordered spring rolls, pad Thai and green curry with Jasmine rice. The food was all delicious. I ordered gluten free versions as my wife can't have gluten. Even gluten free all dishes were better than those I've had at other Thai places. Food was ready on time and well cooked and all ingredients including the meat were high quality

The gardens are stunning and the tearoom where we had afternoon tea and a toastie was beautiful! Their project, where teenagers learn the art of hospitality and catering was heartwarming, but equally, I definitely had better service and beautiful presentation of food from these young people than a lot of other cafe/restaurants! Overall, a very enjoyable and beautiful day out. We got some great pictures! Thank you!

Really impressed with the meal at this pub. A warm welcome by the staff and very helpful with regard to a disabled guest, providing a ramp for the one step up to the restaurant. The room was airy, light and stylish with outdoor tables as well. The food was delicious and really enjoyable so can’t wait to go back again. The staff made it a special occasion for the birthday girl and we appreciated their attention to detail. I have to mention the ladies loo - very stylish, smart and clean. This was a really enjoyable experience, delicious food, friendly staff and lovely surroundings.

As a local resident and keen cyclist, I’m always on the lookout for new spots to stop for coffee or breakfast during my rides. I stumbled upon Essendon Golf Club by chance while driving past one day—it looked inviting, so I made a mental note to include it in my next cycling route. To be sure it was a cyclist-friendly venue, I returned by car a few days later and asked a staff member if bikes were welcome. The young man I spoke to was polite, welcoming, and informed me that breakfast starts at 7 a.m., and yes, cyclists are absolutely welcome. Fast forward to my next ride—20 miles in, I arrived at the golf course. As it was my first visit, I wasn’t sure about the proper way to access the garden area with my bike. I walked it through the golf shop towards the outdoor seating area, but as I reached the doors, the manager approached me and said I couldn’t take my bike that way and needed to go around. I apologised, explaining it was my first time there and I didn’t know the correct route. Rather than simply guiding me, he repeated—quite firmly—that I shouldn’t have come that way. I then asked if I could exit through a nearby door instead of retracing my steps. He sighed, said “Hold on,” and asked another staff member to open the door. When my friend arrived a couple of minutes later (he came in separately), he was met with the same abrupt and dismissive tone. Neither of us felt particularly welcomed at that point. "Not welcoming to cyclists, and the staff seemed more focused on enforcing authority than offering hospitality. After making our way to the garden, we ordered breakfast. While waiting for our food, the manager returned and sat down at our table. He began with a rather unexpected “just so you’re aware” and explained that when golfers see cyclists, they become wary due to “snatch-and-grab” thefts happening at other local golf courses. He said he’s part of a WhatsApp group where such incidents are shared, though he admitted nothing of the sort had happened at Essendon. He claimed that the thieves dress in full cycling kit, enter golf shops, grab polo shirts (apparently worth around £60), and cycle off. I pointed out that the gear I was wearing costs considerably more—£120 jersey, £225 bib shorts, £235 shoes, and a £12,995 bike. He nodded and said, “They look just like us.” The implication being that anyone—even properly dressed cyclists—could be a potential thief. He ended the conversation by telling us we were welcome anytime but should “just be aware.” I’ve never visited a venue and felt so unwelcome. The manager’s tone and approach were off-putting and completely unnecessary. If we hadn’t already paid for the food, I would’ve left. To sense-check his story, I later spent about 30 minutes searching online and couldn’t find any mention of these alleged thefts. I then rang a few friends who regularly play golf at various clubs in the area, and none had heard anything like this either. And let’s be honest—if someone in full cycling kit and cleats can sprint into a shop, steal shirts, and ride off one-handed… they probably belong in the Tour de France. The whole thing sounded made up, or at the very least, exaggerated. The setting is lovely, the food was decent—but the experience left a bad taste. Based on how we were treated,

A fantastic Britstop and in their gardens they have lots of animals including goats and a white peacock. Lovely traditional pub and good staple food, nothing posh, but very enjoyable. Located in the middle of nowhere it is narrow roads to get there but you are rewarded with wonderful countryside and lots of walking opportunities and they are very dog friendly. Great real ale and well worth a visit.

Just righting a review to give a little warning to other customers, ive ordered food from there website on the 2nd of may at 12pm and went to there shop twice that day to collect my food as it gave an estimated pickup time. I had to go digging to find out when they actually open from other customers to find they don’t usually open till 5 which is not stated on there opening hours so have gone after 5 for the past few days and they still haven’t been open my order is still showing the same pickup time on the email and it is now the 6th of may I have emailed them texted them called them dmed them and have had no reply from them but they have taken £36 from me with no problem as a first time customer I couldn’t give any more fault to a restaurant never in my life come across such things. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NOTHING!!!

I recently tried this pizza place recommended by a friend, and it was amazing! This place is undoubtedly serving the best pizzas in Hatfield. The pizzas tasted just like they were homemade—fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Each slice was a perfect balance of a crispy crust, rich sauce, and high-quality toppings. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Beautiful Pub in old Hatfield. You really feel like your going back in time when you step inside! Popped in yesterday with Hubby early evening greeted by a lovely lady bar staff whi quicky took our order of drinks, was told we could have a free Chilli with rice with a drink over £4.50 hubby was very happy. I opted for a bowl of chips which was £3 they went down very well. Traditional pub grub. Would love to see a Ploughman's brought back on the menu one day. Locals very inviting lovey garden outside and doggy friendly which is a bonus if your out walking from Hatfield house and fancy a drink. Overall great Pub with charm and lovely bar staff who are only happy to help 😀.
