Great quality food and service. Went for sunday lunch, the roast beef was served medium rare which was perfect and the horseradish was the perfect condiment.

Delicious Sunday roast with all the trimmings, the fish cake starter which was recommended was amazing. Service was good as usual.

Amazing pub. Lovely interior design. We arrived ad hoc without booking but they were kind enough to accommodate us despite it being very busy. Food was awesome. Shares roast was one of the best ever, the beef and chicken was perfect and gammon was exceptional and not too salty. The veg eas great and only downmark was the roast potatoes which were good but not crispy and fluffy enough and short of the bar set by rest of food. Recommend this thoroughly

This pub offers delicious food, first class service and warm hospitality. Set in idyllic surroundings with beautiful interiors offering a roaring fire on those cold winter days and a stylish sunny terrace for those balmy summer evenings, the Rose and Crown has us returning time and time again, and is a real must for all you foodies out there! There was no question when it came to choosing the perfect venue for our wedding reception. Guided by the fabulous Debbie with her years of experience in hospitality and a keen eye for detail, together we created a beautiful bespoke event. Chef James went above and beyond to craft our ultimate menu, nothing was too much trouble. Debbie put her artistic flair into action adorning the restaurant with beautiful flowers complimenting the elegant table displays set with fine linen and flickering candles, not to mention her team of waiters and waitresses who floated seamlessly from table to table throughout the event making sure everyone was taken care of, impeccable service and a day we and our guests will never forget. Whether you’re popping in for a cheeky pint, a celebratory glass of something lovely, Sunday lunch or a steak on a Thursday night cooked to perfection by the fantastic chef James, you absolutely won’t be disappointed. 5 stars isn’t enough for this gem of an establishment, I highly recommend a visit, you’ll probably bump into us while you’re there!!

Popped in for a quick drink on a Sunday. Lovely pub, very modern stylish interior, almost like stepping into the West End. Very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere

Where to begin? We were greeted by a friendly team of staff and Debbie, the delightful owner showed us to our table. She explained the menu which had something for everyone. The sourdough bread was dangerously delicious accompanied with creamy whipped butter. My Caesar salad was plentiful and yummy, with a good dressing. My husband had the cured salmon in ponzu which he said was great. One friend had the sausage roll and it was so good she wouldn’t share it! Mains were even better. Lamb, cod and tomato tart. Just delicious, and the main thing was that the Rose & Crown used top quality ingredients which showed in their dishes, all of which were cooked with pride and love. The presentation was top notch and would look very comfortable in any five star Central London restaurant. Not expensive. Worth every penny. Thank you Debbie, Charles and Jack. We can’t wait to return, you’re right up there!

I attended a wedding there. Staff were very friendly. The food was nice. Weird yo moan, but the chicken portion was too much. I'm a sugar addict and the cake all had the same stodgy consistency do I didn't eat those. However, I did enjoy the finger food, not enough of that gor miss. Such a lovely restaurant, friendly staff..had pre drinks beforehand in the bar area, had our meal in the main restaurant, really lovely and such fantastic service, very knowledgeable friendly manager/owner I believe she was, I apologise I must admit my mind was focused on food 😋...had the sausage roll..not any ole sausage roll this is sooooo niice, opted for the burger for mains, other half had calamari which was nice also, obviously I tried a bit 😋.. for mains he went for the special...ham and chicken hock pie he really enjoyed that. Truly excellent. I had not visited the place for many years. It was previously a rather dingy and tired pub. With a change of ownership and complete overhaul and repurposing, it is now a lovely village pub but also a venue for events and meals. Highly recommended.

We had heard that the food here was surprisingly good (given it's village location in sleepy Herts), so we booked in for a Friday night dinner in January! We normally go into London but thought we would try local! It did NOT disappoint. The service and food were extraordinary. We ordered some bread and olives expecting the usual fair… what arrived were artisan olives and a homemade sour dough with whipped butter. An outstanding start. I had Ham Hock Terrine and sea bream with the most ridiculously deicious roast potatoes as a side. My husband had the burger (reported to be was delicious.) The sea bream dish needs it's own focus. It was light yet full of flavour with the leek and mussel sauce providing an airy, creamy accompaniment to a perfectly cooked fillet. The seasoning was perfect. Well done to the Chef. We were really impressed at the service. Meals were really well plated, Champagne served in a coupe and the attention to detail very impressive yet it was very relaxed and retained the country pub feel. The food is very fairly priced for the standard provided and the drinks menu extensive. We will be back and strongly suggesting if you have the chance to eat here you do! You will not be disappointed.

First vist here since it re-opened. On the whole it was a good experience. The staff were attentive and the food was a bit better than I was expecting. I have been to some slightly upmarked restaurants and gone away feeling a bit hungry still! My only moan and why not? I did think it was slightly ont the pricy side

Everything about the Rose and Crown is perfect, the ambiance, food, staff and service. We went for Sunday lunch for my father in laws birthday and every effort was made to make it perfect, they even put a candle in his dessert and sang happy birthday! There is not a thing we would change about our experience tonight. My partner and I have not stopped talking about how incredible the food was. We came to this unassuming pub on a whim and will be returning as soon as we can. Absolutely perfect!

It would have been a 5-star experience if the garden area didn't resemble a neglected building site. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant, with clean toilets – a rarity in the surrounding area. It's a pity we couldn't sample the cocktails due to the absence of a bartender.

We stopped to have lunch and we were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door. Our pet pooch was offered a bowl of water which was very much appreciated due to the warm weather. We would definitely recommend and also revisit in the near future.

We were so excited to come here for a roast dinner as my family had come here 2 weeks before and raved about how beautiful the food was and I can really agree - it was gorgeous. However, the lady that runs the restaurant made us feel like we were a nuisance. I booked online for 16:15 and got a confirmation email 2 days prior. We were running late so I called and asked to move the booking and they advised that 16:30 was the latest we could push it to, so we arrived on time. As soon as we walked in the lady immediately asked the kitchen if we could order and then proceeded to tell me my booking was at 15:45. I tried to show my email confirmation but It was like flogging a dead horse. We were in and out in 40 minutes, we really did feel like we weren’t meant to be there. 5 stars for the food, but 2 for the service.

Visited here on a whim for the first time in a good few years. Most impressed - the food exceeded my expectations. Many pubs and restaurants in the area like to think they serve ‘gastro pub’ quality food, when they serve average pub grub at best. This places delivers on the food quality without question and for the same price that you get mediocre chain pub food elsewhere. Staff are great too, clearly put their heart and soul into it.

Unfortunately a couple of issues ruined a family lunch Firstly we were told that because our booking was for 1.15 and we had arrived at 1.00 we couldn’t order a drink on the terrace until our time slot ?! There is a bar and a terrace Why not welcome guests with a drink ? Doesn’t make sense More importantly when I did order drinks the ‘waiter’ made a couple of errors It happens - one didn’t matter - one cider and two Bellinis instead of two ciders and one Bellini But one did matter My daughter has been alcohol free for just over a year I clearly ordered her a Mocktail even pointed to the drink on the menu When she first tasted her drink she even asked me and her brother to taste it because it didn’t taste right We reassured her that it was soda water not Prosecco and not to worry But when the bill came we had been charged for the cocktail equivalent not the mocktail My daughter was very upset Even though she hadn’t intentionally drank alcohol - she still had But worse than that the waiter then tried to blame me because I had ordered the wrong drink The owner removed the drink from the bill to be fair But I hope they realise the importance of the mistake and it doesn’t happen again

Went for a late Thursday afternoon lunch and sat outside in the sunshine. The staff are very friendly and helpful with asking with your needs/wants. The menu is small but perfect and I am sure has something for everyone. I can honestly say that the food was the best I had for a very long time if not ever. It has something for everyone, pub, bar food or restaurant, all very comfortable and lovely decor. Just go there and enjoy yourself with friends and family. Or should I say don't go there because I want it all to myself lol.

If you’re looking for a traditional village pub, then this place has moved on a lot! It apparently reopened in August 2021 following a major refurbishment, and now has the service and feel of a restaurant. Came here for Sunday lunch on the King’s Coronation weekend and the food was faultless. At £48 for 3 courses (plus 12.5% service charge) this is more expensive than most gastropubs, but the food quality is also much better. Service was friendly & attentive, and the modern dining room had a light & airy feel. Would most definitely recommend eating here, but would go elsewhere for a casual pint!

We came on a Friday night, set menu only and we were seriously impressed with every single course. Nouvelle style, but packed with flavour and very refined. Staff were exceptional - top notch but relaxed. We went with wine pairing and was complimented perfectly. Price pretty decent. Can’t go wrong.

What a great discovery! Stunning pub/restaurant with a great feel/ambience whether having a drink near the roaring log fire or having lunch/dinner in the separate dining room which is very spacious and elegant decor to set the mood. I dined with a friend and we both had the mushroom tart from the set menu. I can't explain how amazing this was with the surprise bacon accompaniment (it's the only way I can describe it and doesn't look like bacon at all but a white fluffy melt in your mouth ball) For main I had the Sea bream and mussels and have to say I didn't want it to end... Debbie was very attentive and spent time to explain each dish and desert was also out of this world, the madelines were warm soft and smelt like granny's cooking. The sorbets were so creamy and not like anything I've had before. If you want something to remember with a little twist, great hosts and surroundings, then look no further! I can't wait to return
