If allowed i would have given this place a zero. Worst place I've ever been to. Not family friendly. ..customers sticking their tongues down each other throats in front of young kids and older ppl. Person in charge/manager/owner pretty much laugh in my face when I ask him to speak to them and further told me its a public place and the customers are longterm customers. Not for people of colour as you will be treated as 2 class citizen by owner/manager or whoever is in charge. The food was very bland and cheap quality too.

Tasty steaks. Good portion sizes. Good selection of dishes. Dessert chocolate and pecan tart was a bit disappointing but fine. Staff were great, fantastic service. Wine very expensive. Though £35 for a bottle of Proseco was a bit over the top, but suppose you expect the price in a hotel.

Lunch at the Wooden Fender was amazing! The service was impeccable and friendly and the food was delicious. We had the pork chop and pie of the day as our mains and we ordered a brownie to share for dessert. It was very sweet that the staff cut the brownie in half and served it to us in two separate plates, the presentation was beautiful and it was a thoughtful gesture, usually we just get two spoons when we share dessert so the Wooden Fender going an extra mile made it all the more special. Would definitely go again when back in the area.

I always take my Nan here on a weekend when I visit her. She is in a care home just up the road with severe dementia and this is the only place I feel safe taking my Nan, as I know everyone is so lovely and understand the situation. They are patient whilst she decides what she'd like, friendly with her and chatty when she is in the mood and so so kind. It is the only place I will go now for lunch with Nan, I cannot thank the team here enough, incredible food, great value for money and the best customer service I've experienced I can honestly say. Thank You all so much x

Despite a dreadful experience on our last visit with our family we decided to try again as we have been dining here for 30 years. We came with our family for my husband’s birthday, and It was once again very disappointing. Service was very slow but staff were pleasant. The food was not good at all, some meals were inedible and returned. Our bill was adjusted but it was very expensive for what we had. A total disappointment from start to finish.

I don’t normally write reviews, but the service by the rude receptionist was shocking. In the evening the guy at the desk was super friendly and helpful, in the morning the woman was rude unhelpful and hostile. We came down for breakfast at 7.00 am and she shouted at us where are you going as we tried to enter the breakfast room. She was sat gossiping with a long term tenant who had a super aggressive dog and could be heard bad mouthing other staff and ourselfs. We felt uncomfortable and didn’t know breakfast didn’t start till 8.00. In the morning we asked to stay another night. She said there were no rooms available. On booking. Com 3 rooms had been available as we wanted to stay another night. She was so rude it felt personal. We paid for breakfast and it wasn’t included the deal was b and b. Over all we over look how run down the room and loo was due to the historical building over all sad trip. The building has many people living and treating the hotel as home and it’s intimidating.
