My bestie and I recently re visited for their afternoon tea. We were here last July and I was here again last October. We ordered the savoury version again and it was as delicious as it was before. The service is very good, the surroundings both comfy and stylish and the price point is excellent. We always used to go to high end London afternoon teas such as the Berkeley, One Aldwych and Rosewood, which are superb, but take a lot more effort to reach and are naturally more expensive. We will be back soon.

The tone of the staff was abrupt and unwelcoming, and our plates were whisked away before checking that we had finished, which was unnecessary considering the cafe was half-empty. As for the food, it was inedible and over-priced, with pale flaccid sausages and a very greasy and salty pudding.

We called up and our first question was “ are you dog friendly? Can we bring a dog when you eat in? We got told yes dogs are welcome Drove 20 minutes to be told in person dogs are not welcome then the manager blamed the phone call on part time staff and said it is not his problem

I think this place does the best breakfast and coffee in the whole of Essex, the staff are so accommodating and are such a friendly bunch, it’s family friendly and has a selection of farm animals ranging from goats, horse, 2x highland cows, alpacas, pigs and donkeys, a pond with ducks for adults and children to see and a small play area for children. I just want give a massive shout out to LOIS, she really goes out her way, above and beyond to deliver the best service each and every time I visit and makes this place that extra special.

Yikes. Looked good, ordered two sandwiches to go which I thought were pricy at £8 EACH. Tried to charge me £18. Where I come from 2x8=16 but the lady said 'well thats what it says on the screen'. Genius, I bet NASA want her back when she's finished at the Café. The supposed 'country cheddar and ale chutney' was in fact wholesaler grated cheddar and a tiny scraping of nondescript chutney. These offerings made Greggs cheese and pickle taste like gourmet crafted treats. Came with a bag of crips, the choices were salted or salt and vinegar. No other flavour exists. Confused staff, over priced, overrated. Not everyone is an American tourist folks!

Now renamed, refurbished, under new ownership and operating as an Italian restaurant, so we thought we would give it a try for Sunday lunch. Four of us enjoyed an excellent meal. The food was tasty, well-presented, reasonably priced and arrived with little delay. The staff were friendly, accommodating and efficient without being intrusive. Our only suggestions would be - it would be nice if dogs could be allowed in the outside dining area, and please add ice cream to the dessert menu!

This place has potential but two occasions over three months I have been has been terrible! Can hardly get served because the barman is more interested in chatting to younger girls and when you do eventually get served they bring out mouldy stale bread! This is my local and rather having to take my kids to the next town, I thought I’d give Maldon another go nope nope, same again the manager would rather tippy tap on his computer than acknowledge anyone if you’re not in there clique then they don’t want to know you it’s like middle aged men running a sweet shop. I’m so disappointed when I said my son had a dairy allergy they offered him the macaroni cheese? Surely that’s just asking for trouble as I said clearly he’s allergic to dairy. It’s not very hands on and I would not say this is family friendly at all. I’d rather trek somewhere decent.
