This is a traditional drinks only pub, friendly and intimate. We are regulars and for us it's the best pub around for a drink and a chat. The staff are outstandingly helpful and welcoming. There's good outside seating for when/if summer arrives and an attractive "chalet" if it's warm but you need shelter. A recent addition is a pizza van on Tuesdays and a fish and chip van on Thursdays and you can take food inside.

The pub is in a great spot and was packed for Sunday lunch. The service from the mainly fairly young team was really good - whoever is recruiting and training them needs to take a bow. The Sunday roast was ok but definitely in the quantity over quality category, and expensive at £22+. Mind you, if you can charge £22 for ok and still be packed then fair play I guess.

Booked this venue for a birthday celebration will never go again. Table was placed next to large glass door which was constantly open meaning we ate our meal with our coats on. Food was average at best. Worst of all was the promised entertainment which they were asked about via several emails without receiving an answer to what the entertainment was. During the evening someone turned up set a deck and speakers up on a dining table put some pre recorded music on never heard him say a word. When asked about the entertainment they used a previously used excuse (the singer didn't turn up) Had a taxi booked for midnight left at 22.00. NEVER again Barlow get your act together .

This is a lovely pub but you pay well over the odds for your drinks compared to other local pubs you will pay over a £1 more per pint. This I wouldn't mind but the last couple of times I have been the pub has been ice cold with no heating also opening hours are very restricted and very little option on food

Until a few days ago, I’d never heard of Hackney House Café. However, my friend had previously visited and, because it’s a midway point for us, she suggested meeting here for lunch. We both decided to have quiche. My friend chose the quiche with a sweet potato crust, which was served with some new potatoes as well as salad whilst I opted for the cheese and onion with extra salad and no potatoes. Both quiches were warm and had a lovely soft, creamy texture that melted in the mouth and, even though they were quite deep with plenty of filling, the portion sizes were really generous. The accompanying salad was tasty too and I especially enjoyed the homemade coleslaw. I also had a couple of oat milk decaf lattes which were served extra hot at my request. Service was very good and, although prices at Hackney House Café are probably just above average, the food is excellent quality and merits the cost. Toilets are spotlessly clean too. My friend had made a reservation and, even though it was midweek, it was really busy with most tables taken. I’d definitely advise booking. In addition to the café, there’s an adjoining shop which sells some lovely cards along with their homemade pies and cakes to take away. As well as buying some birthday cards, I bought a couple of sausage rolls for my grandchildren which went down a treat. All in all, I was so impressed with the place and will definitely return.

Staff introduced themselves and were very attentive and efficient. Both our meals were very tasty and beautifully presented. We enjoy good food and the Peacock didn't disappoint. Interesting combinations of flavours which worked well. Well done, good team work!
