We visited on November 1st, 2024, and sadly, it was quite a disappointment. While the bar staff did their best, the kitchen service was very underwhelming. By 6:30 PM, they had already run out of the special main menu on the board! The food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was subpar. The steak & ale pie was more air than a hot air balloon and hardly had any meat. The crust was burnt and tasted like a heated-up frozen pie. The chips were clearly shop-bought oven chips. This was not the level of service we had experienced before. We left feeling quite disappointed. It seems the place is being sold, and I hope the new owners can bring back some quality!

First time visit. While the wait time for our Sunday lunch was more than we would have expected, the food itself more than made up for the delay. The slow roasted rib of beef, cooked on the bone, was perhaps the the best roast I've ever had, utterly delicious. Dessert was equally good (bakewell tart) I would definitely recommend a visit.

Stunning views. My beer was spot on. But pray for good weather and sit outside and admire the scenery. UPDATE: Still call every now and then and am enthralled by the beautiful view. It's a shame they can't make more if it but it's a pretty building and I would imagine (and hope) it's listed.

Ordered a mixed grill and a fish pie. Both underwhelming in size compared to price. Especially disappointed with the fish pie and the grand total of 3 prawns and some shavings of salmon and cod all in a very shallow dish. If the meals had each been £5 cheaper it wouldn’t have felt so disappointing. We decided to go elsewhere for dessert and more drinks.

We booked online prior to eating here on a midweek night. The place was not overly busy so could have just walked in without a booking. Nicely spaced out inside and we were not seated too close to others, so could enjoy a private conversation. We ordered two different meals, one of which was really enjoyed (pork belly) and the other found distinctly average (burger). We have eaten here before and it would not put us off returning to try different dishes.

Updated review. A nicely presented pub with a country feel. The Peacock is a 20 minute drive from Sheffield city centre. The service is friendly, quick & attentive. The food's very tasty & well presented. There's a warm, comfy & relaxing feel to the place, even more so on a cold, dark, rainy night. Highly recommend. Craft ale Open fire Ample car parking spaces.

Nice food but a shame about one rude waitress and a manager who only seemed to worry about allergens as they posed a risk to the restaurant, not to the customer (openly discussed at the bar in front of us). Good for Sunday lunch but not particularly family friendly.

Following the review below, we returned for another meal as their usual standard is excellent. We were not disappointed. Everything was cooked to perfection. The gressingham duck pie was amazing. We are so happy we returned. We ordered off the main menu this lunchtime as we had an offer. Usually we order off the lunch time menu and have never been disappointed. This afternoon it would have cost twice as much and was extremely disappointing. The lemon and thyme hassleback potatoes were bland and not crispy. I would be surprised if they weren't cooked earlier and warmed up. The vegetables were tasteless, and the sea bass was ok at best. The pork in apricot sauce didn't taste of apricot, the charred leeks were chewy and not charred. I did tell the staff when they enquired if everything was ok that I would never order it again and that it was extremely bland. He said he was sorry. I've recommended this place to loads of people, but would have been embarrassed if they'd come today.

Tried an evening meal as a treat here on a midweek evening in September. Although the online booking system appeared to allow bookings upto 11pm, the restaurant was very quiet by the time we left at 9.15pm. Staff were friendly but too busy with other customers to be aware of and ready to welcome guests on arrival. We waited over 30 minutes for our main course order to arrive. Food portions were rather begrudging in size, especially given the premium pricing for this pub chain. The halibut was quite small in size and the pork belly was served as rather overcooked and almost unrecognisable slices rather than a traditional "square". Alcohol prices are again, "premium" - e.g. £6.25 for a pint of lager. My recommendation - Register for Chef & Brewer's pub offers to make a visit here more affordable and the meal sizes slightly more forgiveable.

Had a few good meals at the peacock but was a bit underwhelmed with the Sunday roasts. My partner had the beef rib which was nice but can only assume they forgot to add the gravy jug so was a bit dry. The pork loin was just 2 thin bacon rasher sized strips so disappointingly small. Checking menu afterwards suggests it should have come with stuffing but didn't. Had to send the broccoli back as it had black bits in and was going off and the replacement had the same. Thankfully the desserts were delicious and it is a lovely pub. Hopefully just a bad day!

We have eaten here for a number of years. Last year it went seriously downhill food wise including causing food poisoning in my sister. My daughter and I heard it had changed hands and had upped it's game - we weren't disappointed. In fact, we were astounded. The menu is more select but with dishes with a twist (try the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie). We both had amazing meals that elicited mmmms and aaaaaahs from us as we ate. Combined with an excellent glass of Marlborough Sauvignon we have no words to express how we felt on finishing our meals. However, I hadn't finished yet. I took Matt's advice on dessert and plumped for the Vanilla Slice - I couldn't have guessed what would arrive, three layers of puff pastry filled with ?Creme Anglais and chopped strawberries accompanied with white chocolate ice cream and raspberry coulis. We are still talking about the food 3 days later and have booked a table for when my poor unfortunate sister arrives back in the UK next week. Our thanks to Matt and Cez - amazing serving staff who were friendly, professional and willing to give recommendations and advice. But biggest thanks have got to go to the chef - WOW, what an experience - you are amazing. Thanks to everyone at the Peacock - your haven't just upped your game it is now stratospheric. Booked Sunday lunch as we know we are going to get a lovely meal and it didn’t disappoint… We had the Roast Turkey dinner… superb. Cooked well, really tasty and well presented. One of our party had the Lamb Shank Shepherds pie, she said the lamb was really tender. Afterwords, we had the small pudding with a drink. I had Sherry trifle - a beautiful little cup of trifle with a topping of double cream on top… so tasty! Add onto that, the lovely attentive staff and you have a wonderful combination. We were served by Keisha, a really friendly lady who does the Peacock proud with her enthusiasm. Always a pleasure going here and well worth the drive.

The desserts were lovely but had to rush as we had another commitment at 8pm which we were late for due to slow service. The staff were all very friendly but the food was expensive for what it was and we all said we could have had a much nicer meal closer to home. We went there as we had tesco vouchers which were accepted with no issues at all. Honestly not sure how this place thinks that’s acceptable to serve for £15-£20 a head in the countryside. Waste of time, will not be back and do not recommend! Dear hosts, we are fellow cricketers from Sheffield who have fond memories of having few beers after our matches down at Peacock since 2018. Yesterday (3 teams) we had a great day at cricket and wanted to have a good pint of beer on the way back. I know tables would have been booked by other guests and we would have just walked into some tables. Not all players were around here. So there would have been some misunderstanding. Going forward will make sure we will follow pub traditions. If at all something to consider, maybe the service could be a bit more warm to foreigners and consider cultural differences while explaining table restrictions. Looking forward to continuing spending our post match pints and valuable £ at your historic pub. Cheers.

Simply yelling at 2 elderly gentleman who went to sit in a table inside when 30 pints of beer was on order!! They were shouted and told off not to sit? When the others stayed out for the beer to be served, these 2 elderly gentleman who accompanied us went to sit in due to chill weather. Even after asking that we can split our tables, she kept saying that you will still be treated as 1 group and cannot be served. If you are a large family, I would never recommend you to go to this place. It’s a complete waste of time and the logic given by the pub team is completely illogical.

We popped in for a quick drink and snack for the kids at 2:30pm only to be told that the kitchen was backed up and food for walk ins without a booking wasn’t being offered. There were numerous empty tables available and the pub wasn’t overly busy. We only wanted to order two bowls of chips for the kids but this was declined. We stayed for an hour to have a drink and by the time we left the pub was pretty empty. This is the second time we’ve been to this pub and the service offered was poor. Shouldn’t be offering food if the needs of customers can’t be met. Such a shame as the pub itself is beautiful.

Lovely landlady & landlord. So friendly and welcoming. We had halloumi kebab and steak which were both cooked to perfection. Has glass jars on the bar filled with phone chargers and plugs incase you’ve forgotten yours and also a jar full of reading glasses just incase you need to borrow a pair! How thoughtful! And the best part is they are very dog friendly. Dog treat station at the end of the bar. See you again soon!

Good pub with onsite brewery and a plentiful selection of local beers/ales as well as wines/spirits etc. Friendly staff and atmosphere.
