The Peacock Inn in North East Derbyshire

Booked for a 60th birthday meal with 17 family members. Service, quality of food and drink and staff were all outstanding! I don’t normally leave reviews however we felt we must recommend. Prior to booking we emailed our meal choices to the venue due to the number of us. Communication from The Peacock was excellent, emailing back to clarify on how certain dishes were to be prepared such as the steaks etc. Everything was very smooth, all meals came out together, everything tasted delicious and portions good! Staff members were very attentive, no one ever waited for extra drinks, cutlery, sauces etc. Overall an enjoyable night and we said we will return in future. Thank you ‘The Peacock’ for a making my dads 60th fab!

Wonderful traditional pub in a stunning setting. Great beer and food options. Dog friendly and room to sit outside. Peacocks roaming freely and a large car park. Brilliant.

We have had food few times here. First time very angry with my experience, but we had just quick nibble after walk in Linacre reservoir. (Let’s not point that out) Another time we had full meal with starters (Bread and oil) the bread was amazing good portion as well specially that my partner is celiac. It came different type of breads it fell like fresh baked I absolutely love it. Oil was not basics, it was olive oil and mains was great too. My partner had one of the best gluten free Fish and chips and I had burger. BUT this time experience was totally different, we had ordered again bread and oil…. Half GF and half normal, I (not GF) came just one slice of basic Tesco tiger bread with small portions of olives (good olive presuming from Delia Italia) and basics oil (not olive oil) and DIRTY napkin. On mains we had GF fish and chips and Tagliatelle Chicken. The chicken came with nice bread (shame the type of bread was not served with the starter all would be different)The pasta, I thought it ment to be spicy but not chilly touch it a bit bland. … on the end I have started tasty a bit chilly… Fish and chips was okay… Not terrible but edible … Nothing to get the tastebuds partying….. Peas tasted like Hamlet ciggeretes they was not good couldn’t finish them…. Maybe a different chef ? Candle was a nice touch to the table but wasn’t light…. Seems to be a waste of promising ambiance and just space taken up on the table. Not one member of staff gave us eye contact which completely made us feel uncomfortable and not welcome, except into the end Sam and Indira they was nice, made the experience. Very disappointed with the starts as we came here to spend our 1st anniversary.

Fantastic pub with great food and great service. Lots of seating choice. Lovely patio terrace's and garden area as well as cosy inside seating area. It really is a lovely place to visit and to enjoy fabulous food. Also, you can walk straight into Linacre Reservoir from the pub car park 👍🏻😊

Perfect. Went this evening as a family and it was faultless. The food was delicious. The staff were very attentive. The place is clean, warm and comfortable. We can't wait to visit again!

I booked a table for four and asked for a quiet area so we could chat without too much background noise (two of us have impaired hearing). What we got was just that, except that throughout the meal people were coming and going past us, from the nearby external door to the bar and back. It was bit like being in a busy corridor. The meal was fine if a bit pricey I thought. The menu was a bit limited, to be honest. However, the table was well laid out and the staff were friendly and attentive. A small niggle. The website confused me for a while. It showed a "June menu" though we were proposing to be there in August. As I now find they change the menu with the seasons, this should perhaps have read "Menu from June".

We dropped in for lunch on Friday following a walk around the country park and a short diversion to Abbey Farm, previously owned by my wife’s grandfather in the 50’s and 60’s when it was a dairy farm. Excellent choices available but we both opted for the fish finger sandwich with fat chips. Not disappointed. Two small fillets of battered fish were the ‘fingers’ on a granary roll with tartare sauce. Very ample portion size. A range of local and international beers are available on draft. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Had our post-funeral buffet here and were looked after excellently! All manner of dietary needs catered for without fuss and a relaxed and professional approach made the day a good one!

Miserable owners, have fenced off additional carpark which a lot of dog owners use prior to having a drink in the beer garden after walking their dog's in the accessable woods behind. Hope you lose lots of custom you miserable miserable people.

Staff were very rude you can’t have Sunday dinner as a walk in but if booked inside you can! They allow you to buy drinks and say you can have food outside then when you go to order no Sunday dinner then the only other options is gammon or chips. Young staff behind bar couldn’t be anymore rude !

A great experience - lovely food and excellent service. We visited on a Saturday evening with a group of friends and despite being early were seated quickly. The service was great - friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Proper pub food was enjoyed by all, and I was delighted with the fact that there were lots of gluten free options available. I had the prawn cocktail with gf bread for a starter and fish and chips for the main. Both were really tasty and we’ll visit again as a result.

Went 3 times while on holiday. Enjoyed every meal. Went for Sunday lunch as well,which was also good. Only thing I didn't like was when we paid (cash) they asked if we wanted change.

Delicious food, great service, and atmosphere keep us coming back. The Teriyaki Aubergine starter is out of this world! We are so glad this is within walking distance of Cow Close Barn; we would drive to it anyway, but being walking distance from the holiday cottage is a bonus!

I was disappointed with the small portion of roast lamb that I was served. I had already asked semi jokingly for a decent sized portion. The lamb was very tasty though. Very disappointed with the quality of the bread and butter pudding. Very dense and stodgy. It needed a lot more egg custard and vanilla essence, and probably a good sprinkle of nutmeg. I could see that the place was very popular and was well attended but at £18.95 (I think) for a main course and £7.95 for a dessert I felt it was over priced. Needless to say that I will probably not be returning.

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had! The Haddock was incredible, nice size Fillet with lovely big pure white flakes and the batter was just perfect with a good crunch and wonderfull golden colour. And what about the chips? Well they were the best triple cooked chips I have ever had in a restaurant cooked to perfection with a wonderfull crunch. All in all, it was a wonderfull experience and the staff were just so attentive and friendly so I will definitely be going back. I've not been to the peacock for years but I will not leave it so long next time. Highly recommended and worth the five stars I've given them.

The best prawn salad you will eat in Derbyshire…… fresh tasty prawns and so many makes this dish absolutely delicious. ***** 5 stars is the best!

We held our wedding reception at the Peacock Inn and from start to finish the experience was brilliant. Charlotte and her team were great in organising the evening - understood straight away our vision and how we wanted the table /decor to look , the private room itself was nice and private and the welcome drinks were a great touch for arrivals. The food quality and service was outstanding - we had 30 guests who ordered off the main menu and each starter , main and desert came out in good time and was delicious , we had many comments from our guests saying how good the food was. The service was 10/10 all night. Thank you for making our special day that much more special :)

We were nearby and called in without a booking. The pub was quite busy but they found us a table we could use for 90 minutes which was fine. Smart contemporary decor, frequented by families, walkers and dog owners on the day we visited. Lunch was nice, served quickly and the service was friendly. Good choice of ales and soft drinks so we we left fed, watered and happy.

Last night we had a family gathering to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday; we could not have chosen a better location than the Peacock at Cutthorpe. EVERYTHING was perfect, but the standout point to highlight was 100% the service! We had a large room to ourselves and it felt like we had a waiter coming to take a drinks order, and deliver them to our table, as much as we could’ve needed. They had decorated the room for us with the items we had provided, plus the general decor is fresh and clean. There is ample parking, no issues with disabled access, lovely outdoors areas to sit, a play area for little ones, and the Peacock is situated in beautiful surroundings. The menu choice is fantastic, the food great, and, as I said previously, the service exceptional. Thank you so much for making this such a wonderful night. 🙏

First visit here in years. Very impressed. Staff were excellent, friendly & efficient. Food was top quality, presented well & delicious.

The Peacock at Cutthorpe is a lovely pub with amazing views of a countryside field. We already pre-ordered our meals prior to our visit. The food was amazing 👏 as always, and the service was excellent 👌. We arrived 20 mins early to our booking, but we were waiting 15 mins after our booking time. Overall, it was a good visit ☺️

Fish and chips were the best I have ever had. My husband had the gammon and he said the same. Well worth a visit.

We often visit this pub when we are visiting to cover respite break for family member. The welcome has always been friendly. Today I asked if they could provide a bottle of milk for my young granddaughter and the lady (possibly the manager) was more than happy to deal with my request and even refused my offer of payment. I didn't feel it fair to rate the food as its been a few years since we dined but I remember food been good and seeing the fish/chips someone had was big and looked nice. Outside play area for children & dogs made welcome. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Absolutely amazing from startvto finish It was our first vist but definitely will not be our last . Food excellent Staff very attentive but not in your face. Great atmosphere.

Absolutely lovely. Popped in after a long walk, the place was quiet but with a great atmosphere. Our dog was welcome and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the burger with chips, my partner had the lentil burger and both were delicious.

Decided to have Sunday lunch here and we weren't disappointed. Very efficient service. My pork was very tasty and tender. We finished with sticky toffee pudding and my wife had the Ice cream selection. Again, all delicious. A wafer with the ice cream was all that was missing for my wife. We have dined here before and enjoyed all previous meals and will definitely return for Sunday lunch again.

We booked a surprise meal for my sons 30th birthday the landlady was very accommodating upon entry she made us feel at ease & showed us our table in the private dining area, it's was lovely on this special occasion we chose our menu before in advance as there was 10 of us. The Food arrived & it was lovely very well presented hot & delicious we all remarked on the freshness x the staff always came to check on us which was reassuring we would definitely return. Lovely food but slow service in general, clearly not enough staff. Large table next to us did’t even order desert as they had waited so long. Amazing place just need to staff it correctly. So far it’s taken 10 mins just to get the bill. I sit here waiting ……

A little average unfortunately. Good food choices for mains. Service started off well then just kind of ignored and forgotten about which was disappointing. Ok but unlikely to return.

We were a party of 10 celebrating a family birthday. The pub was very busy but the waiting staff were very attentive and we didn’t have to wait too long for the food which we had pre ordered. We sat in the bar area which was dog friendly. Small issue with one dish which was late arriving at the table, but not so late to create a problem. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was well presented. Thanks to all who looked after us!

A large party of 18 but all served well . Pity not more veg as only 1 small dish of greens between 2 people.Did bring more when asked.

The food and atmosphere here are excellent and the staff very polite and professional, however when they are busy it can take a while for staff to approach you so there can be a delay in getting drinks and desserts. This has happened on more than one of our visits.

Love it here , more expensive than other pubs but the food is beautiful and the staff are always lovely and catering , nice place to stop for a drink as well if you have gone for a walk over Linacre , nice in the summer to sit outside on the benches , the restaurant to the back is decorated lovely

Went today New Year’s Day for family meal the food was amazing and the staff could not do enough they was so attentive and friendly thank you for a great New Year’s Day

Disappointing, told us they needed our table for other guests before even finishing serving us with the response when challenged, sorry we are busy. If you’re that busy and can’t keep up with service then don’t take so many bookings!

Popped in after a walk, we’ve been in a couple of times, maybe 3-4 and every time we’ve left having been made feel uncomfortable by rude staff. We’re not complainers however if you are working in the industry it isn’t hard to crack a smile when serving customers, or to try and be helpful. We were told abruptly after asking for some food that it was not possible as kitchen was closed( absolutely fine) that’s not an issue if she spoke to us nicely. I asked about any snacks and was told there over there somewhere. No one smiled or spoke to us nicely, and we left paying for drinks and a bad service from unhelpful staff

Just had a lovely Christmas 🤶 Eve meal and have to say the food was delicious and service second to none ... portions generous and sooo tasty, I had the nut roast dinner and my other half a lamb dinner generous amounts of meat and cooked to perfection, only criticism is .... we really wanted one of the puddings 🍰 but sadly after the veritable feast could not eat another thing, but next time as we will definitely will be back and highly recommend a visit thank you

So disappointed with my Beef and Horseradish roll. Tasteless, thick and fatty beef with barely any horseradish. The granary roll apparently came fresh from Bakewell. It certainly wasn’t fresh that day. It was stale and had been squashed down. This was all accompanied by a few leaves as a garnish and horrible greasy fries. When I complained the waitress looked at me with disgust. There was no option for a refund she just huffed off! An expensive sandwich. Won’t be returning.

Absolutely superb food and service. Different areas of the pub to suit all… dog/no dog, bar area (open fire) and well appointed restaurant (the crab room!) outdoor terrace area weather permitting. Great place for a bite to eat after a walk round Linacre Reservoirs just down the road. Loved the posh fish finger sandwiches, battered strips of real fish.

This was our second year coming for our friends Christmas meal. We all throughly enjoyed it. The staff were lovely and delicious food.

Friendly welcome and service with delicious food. I had fish and chips for my main which was excellent, highly recommended. We'll be back again very soon.

It is not a cheap eat, expensive. The food is without flavor. There are staffs who work here that should not be in customer facing jobs.

Had actually booked for another Peacock, without realising but this place was absolutely lovely. Food was delicious, hot and service was good. Not an extensive menu but dishes cooked fresh and presented well which is always preferred. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. Atmosphere was nice too.

I booked a meal here after looking at reviews as we are visiting the area for a week with friends and are staying in a cottage 15 mins walk from there - After a lovely long morning walk we arrived at the Peacock at 3.30 pm. The table wasn’t quite ready so we had a drink in the bar . We were shown to our table, the restaurant is really lovely .We had 2 starters, halloumi cheese and risotto followed by Sunday roasts for all 4 of us . The food was delicious - best roast I’ve had in a while and good portions too. The staff ( all young ) were really friendly and the service was efficient . I’d definitely recommend a visit here and I’m planning on returning tomorrow for another meal .

Lovely pub with nice decor, waitresses attentive and not overbearing which was nice. Husband had fish finger on a white cob which was huge, it was excellent hot and tasty, I had roast beef and horseradish on brown, I’ve just a couple comments regarding mine. The beef was lovely and loads of it, but the cob was really hard work, too big and needed more butter on it as it was quite dry. I would prefer the cob slightly toasted maybe and the horseradish sauce in a separate ramekin so you can add more as I do like plenty on. Apart from that I thought it was great

Worlds away from our last visit. We came earlier this year and had a tasty dinner and staff were very friendly. We enjoyed it so much that we agreed we would come again after our next walk at Linacre. Attended again on 30/09/23 and our experience was completely different. We popped in after a walk at Linacre with our two year old, dog and my sister. The manager looked at us disgusted and was rude and blunt. We perceived this to be because we weren’t in our gladrags (but surely they expect walkers at a pub right next to Linacre reservoir) We were told eventually that they could only accommodate us outside (even though we could see a seat for 4 inside) We were told we only had 10 minutes to order as they had a group coming in and then was only handed one menu to share between us all. Food wasn’t half as nice as last time we went. Sausages were a weird consistency. I wasn’t nearly half as impressed despite ordering the exact same as we did last time. Kids portion was lukewarm. Nobody bothered to come outside and ask if everything was okay or if we were enjoying our meal at any point. Overall this experience left a sour taste and I don’t think we will be visiting after our next trip to Linacre. We will take our custom where it’s actually wanted and not where it appears we are looked down on by staff.

Find it hard to believe that anyone can give a bad review about the peacock . The staff are so lovely and Charlotte is the perfect host always so friendly and professional. We have just been in for dinner and my husband said it’s the best steak he has ever tasted and my sausage and mash was lovely. The pub itself is so warm and welcoming and we have NEVER had a bad meal or service in over 3 years . Love it 😍

Had seen some good reviews. Nice pub and well presented and beer and drinks were good. Staff were also attentive and friendly. Sadly, in comparison to other places we found the food was at best average and over priced for what it was. The fillet steak was small, barely warm and definitely on the chewier side for fillet. Fish in wasabi was surpringly bland. Hallulmi burger was too salty, bun was over toasted and a bit dry as a result. In fairness, the haddock and chips were pretty good. So all that said, having reviewed many pubs and restaurants in the area, overall this one (on this occasion) was a definite disappointment. I certainly won't be rushing back for the food, although a beer in a nice pub would be possible! 3 stars is a more than fair score and now one to watch to see if I'm a just a blip (it happens) or perhaps food is not what it was?

This popular restaurant is always full and rightly so. We have eaten there several times and never been disapointed.

Lovely lunch on the garden, food excellent, though aa a vegetarian more choice would be good, but I say that everywhere I go. Had the roasted aubergine starter as a main with fat chips (v good) and a really good side salad (i usually moan about pub salad!). The best aubergine dish ove had anywhere. Delicious!

We are regulars to the peacock inn, but unfortunately the last few times have been a little disappointing.. firstly I can’t fault the food it’s always good.. but we like to eat outside specially when it’s a sunny afternoon, last few time the tables around the back have been dirty, not cleaned, no seat covers unless you know where they are.. I get the British summers but at least tidy a few tables and present them like you would your own.. looking tatty I’m afraid!!

We chose The Peacock for my 60th Birthday Party - it was fantastic. Charlotte & her team did an amazing job & all credit to the amazing chefs who managed to serve people with steaks cooked just as requested and all together - no one was left waiting! We booked a private room for my son Ross's 30th birthday meal whilst staying locally hor a few days. What can I say, if you are looking for a friendly, reasonably priced place to enjoy a meal this is the place for you! The food was great with generous portions with fresh ingredients. The staff were friendly and attentive. I have no hesitation in recommending the Peacock Inn to all, enjoy.....
