A proper cosy local pub, not many of these about any more that haven’t been forced into doing food. Perfect place on a sunny day, and a great covered wooden outdoor seating area has been added since the last time I was there. Nice beer selection and crisps, what else do you need?

A great pub and always a perfect pint of Wainwright. The outdoor space is lovely and the couple who run the pub are great hosts

I wandered into this place having walked my dog a few weeks ago. I have been back with family and friends regularly since. The landlord and Landlady are so friendly and cheery and the staff are lovely. We also discovered that as well as an excellent selection of beers, lagers etc, they do pie and peas on certain days. I took my Yorkshire dad who loved it. Very good value for money, lovely pie, peas, roasties, gravy and bottle of hendo’s!!. The beer is excellent and the place is spotless. Can’t praise it enough. I wished I lived closer…!

The Publicans made our weekend. We had a terrible experience at the Angel and these two wonderful people made our afternoon and restored our faith and mood. They turned a very sour experience into something joyful. Friendly, welcoming and lovely, warm people. Please visit and highly recommend. Thank you to you both

Well what a surprise pie and peas at lunchtime, just a quick stop and stayed a bit longer than I expected. The staff are very friendly and even the landlord and landlady were about checking and chatting making sure everything was fine for everyone locals and none locals. It was a good pub visit and I was wishing that I wasn't driving as there was a good selection of beers.

Fantastic traditional pub. Great atmosphere, friendly bar staff and good beer. Unfortunately it is far too easy to get very comfortable and stay all day!

This is a friendly cosy pub with an open fire. They serve real ale. Quiz night on a Monday night is popular, free fun quiz ( no cheating!) followed by sandwiches and pork pie, good evening out.

The Rutland is a great little "proper" pub, is well used by walkers and locals alike and I have noticed that it has a very good "early bar" trade. It seems that food has to be organised in advance but although the pie and peas are to die for, it is not its main attraction. You always receive a warm welcome from the hardworking landlord and staff and there is an excellent choice of real ales. My favorite is Harvest Pale, which along with Black Sheep seem to be regulars, with a few others which seem to change on each visit. There is often something from the Bradfield Brewery, sometimes Farmers Blonde but also one of the fruity options, which are worth a try. It has a cosy atmosphere in winter and a large beer garden which is great, when the weather is better. With many pubs closing or turning into restaurants in the area, this is a real gem, worth supporting.

One of the best pubs in South Yorkshire / North Derbyshire. Always has 3-4 very well kept ales. Prices are lower than many similar looking rural pubs. Roaring fire in winter. Quiz night on Monday is good fun and there are several prizes drawn at random "just for taking part". Some of the friendliest staff in any pub.

Served promptly and with a smile. A really nice pie, superb mushy peas, and on this occasion, washed down with a rather nice pint of Harvest Pale, a fine ale from the Castle Rock brewery. The Friday lunchtime visit came at the end of a 4 mile walk with other members of the Dronfield and District Footpaths and Bridleways Society.

Busy pub with lots of walkers, a great recommendation, good choice on menu at very reasonable prices, service was quick with a smile and the lunch time meal was well prepared, cooked and served. Great range of real ales which appear to change regularly. A great find this pub, will definitely revisit. Plenty of off road parking if you are not a walker.

This is the best pub for miles around. It is a country pub with loads of atmosphere. It is not a restaurant, so don't go if you are expecting a meal. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. The choice of beer is good and the landlord takes pride in keeping it in good condition. It's cosy in winter and has a large beer garden in summer. What more could you ask for. Well worth a visit.

This place captures everything you'd expect in a country pub! Fine real ales very well kept, a great mixture of folks at various times, lovely people in charge - one of my favourite places to go for a pint or three...especially on a warm sunny day!

I've been here a few times and it never disappoints. I love the olde worlde interior and the warm atmosphere. The staff have always been friendly and polite. There's always awesome music playing, the whole place is right up my street. The food is lovely, they do proper home made chips and they have a black pudding and peppercorn sauce that is amazing!!

Solo comimos una vez allí, pero habíamos jurado que si estuviéramos en el distrito en el futuro sería nuestro lugar al que ir. La comida en nuestra visita estaba bien preparada y bien presentada, y esperamos volver. Qué vergüenza para ellos.

Food menu is very limited. I had a blt which was nice enough my other half had a burger which was again nice enough then we had halloumi fries which for us was way over done. Staff seem friendly enough the cafe is nice and clean.
