We visited while passing by on the way to a friends house. We visited here as it is a farm shop and we expect good things from local farm shops. I can’t say that we were by any means blown away. We ordered 2 sausage sandwiches at the price of £10.50. Pretty steep for some sausage butties, but as it’s a farm shop, you expect quality, so the price didn’t bother us at this point. The box they came in was great and the fact you got a wooden knife and some additional tomato ketchup was a nice little touch. However. The sausages looked slightly anaemic, not the slightly charred outer you would expect. For two sausages per sandwich. I felt it was very expensive, as the bread cob, of which was quite nice, was huge. Too much bread vs sausage if you like. There was certainly more bread than sausage here! And the sausage that was there, was underdone for our liking. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best sausage cob I have ever had, and for what it was, unfortunately I would say it is over priced.

Called Monday, early afternoon. Large, easy car park. Look for signs to cafe/shop. Nice farm shop. Good choice at farm shop prices. Noone was in there to ask for advice either on the way in or on the way out.🤷🏼‍♀️ Food looks good quality and it was spotlessly clean. Down a couple of steps to the cafe. It's not wheelchair friendly this way - maybe you could get through the outdoor seating area but check first. Small first floor dining area, larger upstairs and plenty of outdoor tables too. Lovely decor. Plenty of choice of cakes etc - all looked delicious and it wasn't all covered in chocolate! Bonus points for that ( from those of us who have a cocoa intolerance !!) We chose Clementine cake and cherry Bakewell cake, a flat white and a latte. These were brought to the table by the ladies serving. The coffees were hot and a good flavour. The cherry Bakewell was delicious, the Clementine was slightly dry unfortunately. The meals being served to the other tables looked good and a good portion too! Not much was left on their plates at the end either! Always a good sign. The cafe was busy but people were coming and going all the time so free tables were not an issue. It's obviously a popular place to go. The staff were pleasant and constantly busy with serving, paying, clearing tables etc. I can't abide watching staff have a natter whilst floors are dirty! So well done to them👍🏻 Yes, we would go again. Yes, we would recommend others visit.⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a very pleasant Sunday lunch today in a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff, including the owner and Tara, previously from Kath’s Cafe were very attentive and professional. The Taming of the Shrew incident (mistaken for a mouse) was a case of mistaken identity and misunderstood by someone whose judgment was a little harsh. We are blessed to have so many good places to eat in our area and Marsh Green is one of the best!

I would give 0 stars if possible.. Me and my mum used to come here every week before it got new management, but since then we’ve been probably once, we thought we would try it again today but the place just looks so untidy and messy, the food and drinks are no where near as good as they used to be either. We had a coffee and a tea today with a piece of cake, my mum then saw a mouse running around in between all the tables, I couldn’t believe it, I reported it to the waitor and she laughed and started running around chasing it, I don’t think it’s a laughing matter really. Quite unprofessional. We quickly paid and left. There was no apology for this or even a discount on the bill, nothing. Then to my surprise as we left the manager was running around moving all the bins, so they clearly know there is a problem!! reported this to environmental health.

Disappointed when breakfasts arrived without a hash brown as listed on menu. When questioned, waitress advised had ran out. Once our order had hit the kitchen and you realised you were out of hash browns I would have expected someone to let us know and offer us an alternative item. This did not happen. Can only assume you were hoping we would not notice the missing item. After I pointed out the missing hash brown and asked if I could have another item in its place, I was only offered mushrooms, which I politely declined as I don't like them. You happily charged us full-price for our incomplete breakfasts even after we mentioned it again to the chap who rang it through the til. Called for lunch on Monday 13th November. We both chose a bacon, Brie and cranberry panini and requested that the bacon was crispy as neither of us liked uncooked fat. When the food arrived most of the fat had been cut off. What remained was virtually raw. Very little Brie and cranberry inside, plus there was one small strip of bacon inside one half of both paninis. We complained to a very pleasant waitress who left to consult with the manager. We were told the kitchen had cut off all the fat, which they hadn’t, and that the bacon was put into the panini raw (pre prepared we were told) and was then cooked on a sandwich toaster. Regardless of the fact we had left the majority of the paninis we were charged full price. The manager didn’t show his face and left it to the embarrassed waitress. Obviously won’t be returning.

We travel 20 minutes regularly for an all day breakfast mostly. We work night shifts so an afternoon breakfast was ideal. Breakfast no longer served all day so had the burger. The burger was yummy but sadly other little bits let our visit down, like forgetting our cheese off the burger, no longer comes with coleslaw. Cup of tea is now standard teabags and we used to enjoy the proper tea leaves. Staff were friendly but didn’t seem confident in what they were doing yet. The new menu is disappointing, seems to offer less but for more money, we always said the old menu should of been a pound or two more, but not more for less food and options. We sadly won’t be making the journey to travel anymore. So sad this has changed, from one of our favourite places to a very average experience.

I've visited over half a dozen times in the last 12 months and this is the first time under the new ownership and how disappointed we were. The menu is a third of the size of the old one which has lost all of the fantastic pies and pastries. Prices have increased dramatically for smaller portions and less quality ingredients. The breakfast is no longer served all day. The burger is now only a single burger which is no longer served with bacon or coleslaw. We booked for a Saturday lunch as we know how busy this place can be and it was half empty as it looks like all the regulars have already abandoned ship as its lost all its charm. This was a little gem where many regulars would travel miles as its a little out the way but unfortunately I won't be returning as its now average at best. Such a shame.

I’m not sure why new owners would change such a successful eatery? Slimmed down menu, breakfast menu only before 12 noon, prices up considerably and if I’m not mistaken new staff which weren’t great. The menu didn’t include the lasagne, very little choice unless you wanted a sandwich with crisps for the price of a main meal with previous owners. You’re missing a trick with timing of breakfast, previously you’d see groups of younger people enjoying a good value breakfast after 12 noon and I’m sure you’ll lose custom over this. Prices have shot up and I know you’ve done a lot to the site but don’t make loyal customers take the hit. The fish and chips were very nice but my partner had the goats cheese salad and I’m sorry but what a rip off! Not worth the price, not a lot on the plate. All in all you’ve changed so much that we won’t be returning which is sad because we’ve been very regular customers but with points raised above it’s not worth the drive out anymore. I’m really not sure you’d change things so much, one previous review said “if it’s not broke why fix it? “ and they’re bang on. Hope I’m wrong but time will tell.

Absolutely appalling what I received one piece of fatty bacon rind left on and steamed more than grilled or fried. and one cheap sausage cut in half which looked microwaved I’m all for supporting local business but that’s probably the worst cooked breakfast roll I’ve had whilst traveling in the UK. This was at the top of our list of places to eat now it's crossed off altogether. The food was always delicious, plentiful and a good price but not anymore. There are no pies, fish and chips or jacket potatoes on the main menu. Lots of items included bread which I don't eat. We asked for a homity pie and a meat pie which weren't on the menu. They did agree to cook them for us then charged us £3 per meal more than we paid the last time we ate here. Why this staggering increase? It's a farm shop cafe stop ripping off your customers. Such a shame that a once great little homely cafe with fabulous food has been taken over and changed into a run of the mill expensive cafe. The breakfasts here were superb but looking at the prices now I wouldn't pay it. Today it cost us over £30 for two pies salad(mine was gritty) one portion of chips and two coffee's. This would have cost us around £24 only a few months ago. The three stars are for the staff and coffee which was good. Because of the menu and price increases which are around £30% we won't be back.

My last review was 5* but unfortunately the whole menu has been slimmed down and changed for the worse. There are now none of the delicious pies or quiches that were our favourite. Fish and chips, the chicken with stilton sauce and the homemade lasagne (all superb!) also disappeared, along with the all day breakfast. Instead of all meals being served all day there are now specific times for breakfast and lunch. The only salad was goat cheese, the cake selection is much smaller and we struggled to find anything we wanted so we drank our warm (not hot this time) latte and left. We won’t be returning :(

The table next to us had pie and chips which smelt amazing but we didn't see on the menu, so we will be back to try these. The coffee was excellent and much improved and the slice of cake huge and great value. The staff were as lovely as last time and the place looked clean and new. I appreciate people don't like change but we welcomed some new inspiration. Maybe a slightly bigger choice (specials board maybe) would keep everyone happy. I'd have liked smashed avocado but sadly that was only on the breakfast menu. I ordered a salmon and cream cheese sandwich, which was okay but the filling was not very cold. The salad on the side had a very gritty bit which put me right off eating the rest. Prices have gone up too. If you are coeliac you would struggle to find something suitable now that no jackets. On the plus side the staff and environment are nice and the food was quickly prepared and drinks were ok.

This was our favourite local breakfast/brunch/lunch/ tea and cake stop. Only 10 minutes from home. First visit on their opening day. Breakfast now 25% dearer. I didn't bother asking if they allow substitutions. They have demarcated the breakfast and lunch menus either side of 12pm. I'd have like a lunch menu item but was too early. This was never a problem before. The drinks came well after the food. I'll come back to try a couple of lunch menu items. The Avocado smash was well prepared but rather mean. A rather poor start. Had a drive out to visit Marsh Green following recommendation, did not know you needed to book so was disappointed to be told fully booked in the cafe and no further assistance offered.

What a gem of a cafe. Generous, fair-priced, well-cooked meals from an extensive menu served by friendly waiting staff who couldn't do enough for us. So glad we finally called in!

I called for breakfast on Saturday morning . Food lovely but the service was very poor . Not enough staff . Poor girls serving were run off their feet . Had to wait for cutlery when breakfast arrived and had finished eating before drinks arrived . . Real shame as this has put us off going again

We used to come here almost weekly for either breakfast or lunch after a run or walk with the dogs. We also supported Marsh Green throughout lockdown with takeaways. However over the last 18months we feel that standards have slipped in terms of food quality...

Fourteen members of Darley Dale WI had a very enjoyable lunch. The staff were friendly and efficient. Everyone's meal was served at the same time and was of a very high quality. Would gladly recommend the cafe

As we arrived about 6 workmen were just leaving having stopped for breakfast. The friendly, obliging staff quickly cleared the tables (we stayed downstairs) and wiped them clean very thoroughly. We decided to try the full English ourselves, two generous slices of bacon, a sausage,...

We came for breakfast, it was busy with a nice atmosphere. The staff are very busy serving in the shop/deli counter and the cafe but are very friendly. Upstairs in the cafe is fairly cosy, the condiment bowls were filthy with dried beans and goodness...

Met with my sister to celebrate her birthday having booked a table in advance. We were given a friendly greeting and shown to a nice table by the window. We both had something from the specials board (fish pie and creamy King prawn curry). Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake. Have visited here many times before and highly recommend it. Great food, nice cosy atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Such a lovely cosy pub with a coal/log fire and dog friendly. The food and drinks were very good value. I had an amazingly simple yet delicious burger for £9. My friend had a fish and chips from the light bites menu which was £6 and it did not disappoint. They have darts, board games and a pool table. I will be back! Lovely chatty landlady.

Wanted to go out of my way to leave a positive review for the Fox & Goose. Living fairly locally, we drop in time to time and on Sunday just gone, we did so with our little boy. We hadn't booked nor were we having any food. Just a drink at the bar. Those dining had the opportunity to 'meet santa' in a cordoned off area. Spotting we had a little boy with us, the bar staff kindly invited him in to meet Santa despite us not dining etc. My little boy loved it and was thrilled with his little present. Unbeknown to them, due to work commitments I'd been unable to attend our booked Santa visit elsewhere so this impromptu meeting of the man himself, was that bit more special for us as the parents. Lovely venue with great food and drink but above all that - the staff puts it above other venues. Thanks again!
