Stayed here overnight with my wife. When we arrived we sat on the terrace outside the bar and overlooked the breathtaking views - rolling fields for miles around. The room we had was also stunning, with a deep bath and a lovely comfortable bed. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We dined in the restaurant and had breakfast there in the morning. The food was delicious and service very good. It was very busy although we took that as a sign of how good it is! We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to others. It’s relaxing and in a stunning location with nice staff and good service. Can’t go wrong.

Really enjoyed our stay here, Room was lovely and had everything you could want, very impressed. Evening meal was lovely, had the chicken dinner which was great, fantastic gravy. Their beer brewed on site was top rate. All the staff we delt with were great and friendly. Next morning after a great night sleep had a lovely breakfast. Only down side was that we had booked it for my wife’s birthday stating so on the booking notes, normally with other bookings we’ve done at other hotels we would have some recognition of this, maybe just a card in the room, nothing here which was a shame and spoiled the celebration slightly.

We had dinner here as part of an overnight stay. Although everything was excellent as an overall experience and an overnight stay at the hotel represents very good value, we thought the restaurant as a standalone was quite expensive for the service on offer. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar, and bills are settled at the same location. Our food both salmon fillet meals were very good and nicely presented although at around £26 per meal is the top end for this type of establishment. There is a good wine list, although wine etiquette from the server who poured out wine without offering tasting left some room for improvement. We were still very happy to dine here and would unreservedly be happy to visit again if in the area.

Staff are mostly very young and many have zero manners or understanding of handling complaints. Prefer to argue or answer back than escalate things. Manager apologised but just box ticking really. Wont be going back as staff are just there for the £ and don’t care less about hospitality. Food was a bang average Sunday roast at best. Burnt roast potato’s and a poor excuse for a “home made Yorkshire pudding” that looked nothing like one. It has the potential to be a great meal out, if the staff were better trained, or just mature enough to be honest. Maybe the chef just had a bad day also, but won’t be there again to find out.

Visited on Easter Sunday with family as a group of 15, food was ok but unfortunately one very rude member of staff ruined the experience. We had our 11 month old baby with us as part of our group, and when drinks were first bought to the table the waiter started passing glasses over (and very close to) his head whilst in his highchair. I asked him not to do that and he apologised but then kicked the high chair as he left the table while our baby was eating. As the food was then being bought out I had to ask a couple of other members of staff not to pass hot plates over our babies head as it kept happening. One member of staff then decided to be very rude repeatedly saying “I haven’t been here so I haven’t passed anything over his head before” and “I’m not going to drop anything on him”. Our whole group was taken aback by her attitude and the fact she clearly didn’t understand the seriousness of potentially dropping a hot plate of food on a baby. I wasn’t saying that she would drop something but understandably this was not a chance I wanted to take. The lady looking after our group then had to come over to apologise. I did speak to a manager who apologised but to be honest this felt very much like a half hearted apology and said he had spoken to the member of staff but really it should have been the staff member apologising for being so rude. Whether she understood the seriousness of passing things over a babies head or not, there was no need to be so rude. She could have simply apologised at the time and that would have been that. This experience ruined an otherwise nice meal out with family and to be honest I can’t believe that someone can speak to customers in the way I was spoken to and all you get back is ‘I apologise and I’ve spoken to her’ without even gesture of goodwill offered. I certainly won’t be returning and neither will the rest of our party.

We often call here for breakfast. Generally speaking the quality of the food is good and the staff are friendly and efficient. The only issue is the ‘hot’ drinks are never hot. At our last visit we had two lattes and a hot chocolate which were lukewarm at best and this happens most weeks which is a shame as otherwise everything is good.

There is even a mjni brewery on site - you can see the casks through a viewing window. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The meals were lovely and a good size - we couldn't manage a pudding. Car parking was a little interesting as the spaces are quite tight and note there are some steps to get down into the restaurant (I'm presuming there is a lift too but wasn't really looking for one). I was on a work trip at The Peacock and the measure of my experience there is that I would go back on a weekend away outside of work in a heartbeat. My accommodation was a stone cottage across the lane from the pub and was idyllic. Everyone who works at The Peacock should be proud of what they do as a team. The service was worthy of a 5* hotel, the food was amazing and their attention to detail was second to none. Just a little thing like them knowing I was from the cottage when I went for dinner and the detail in the accommodation made it worthy of a glowing review. Well done everyone, you smashed it.

The pub is in a great spot and was packed for Sunday lunch. The service from the mainly fairly young team was really good - whoever is recruiting and training them needs to take a bow. The Sunday roast was ok but definitely in the quantity over quality category, and expensive at £22+. Mind you, if you can charge £22 for ok and still be packed then fair play I guess.

Very nice place and good food but it is overpriced by at least 25%. One other gripe is that if you ask for soda water, they want to charge, which i dont agree. I asked why they charge, and they said because of the gas. If you had a bottle of still water, there is no charge, so i find it a bit cheeky, and money grabbing was not necessary. Prices seem to have shot up again , £26 for a Sunday lunch quad father, a very royal high price, which I would never pay. Its not as though the food is bad, just overpriced. Prices have increased again for the quad father now at £28 plus. Eye watering to think of it, really. Sunday lunch at barlow Hall is £27 and in unique settings, so I will be trying that place next. Update on Barlow Hall Sunday lunch, it was terrible.

Ah, the Peacock at Barlow—once the shining jewel of my Sunday roast dreams. But sadly, my most recent visit has left me with a slightly less rosy view of both the restaurant and the birds they’re named after. Let’s talk about the roast dinner. Now, when you’ve been promised four meats by something called "The Quadfather," expectations are high. Four meats. That’s not a meal, that’s a meat festival. I was ready to channel my inner carnivore, prepare myself for a meat-infused spiritual awakening. But what did I get instead? A roast dinner that was colder than my enthusiasm after watching the potatoes not even try to crisp up. And, as for the four meats—well, I count three on my plate, and one of them looked suspiciously like "something that used to be meat." I'm not sure if I missed the memo on the "fourth" meat, or if it was just a very enthusiastic metaphor. Either way, the promise of quad wasn’t quite delivered. Now, the real kicker? This was the special Sunday where we decided to use a gift voucher to celebrate our engagement. You know, because nothing says "we’re in this together" like a roast dinner and a side of disappointment. If I’m being honest, the roast was so cold, it could have been the icebreaker for our wedding vows. I should’ve known something was off when I walked in and noticed a distinct lack of excitement in the air—more ‘peacock feathers falling flat’ than ‘showing off’. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some of my favourite meals at the Peacock before—those golden moments where everything comes together like a well-rehearsed choir. But this time, the choir was out of tune, the stage was cold, and the choir director had possibly misplaced the sheet music. I’ll probably return, because every restaurant has an off day (and I’d like to believe the “quadfather” was just having a tough weekend), but for now, I’m left with the bitter taste of cold meat and unmet expectations. So, until next time, Peacock—please, for the love of engagement dinners everywhere—don’t make the next roast a 'meatless' miracle.

We have just stayed at the Peacock, in the Pilgrim room, as a treat, the night before my wife’s 60th Birthday. The welcome, on arrival, the room itself and the little note acknowledging her Birthday, were superb. The room was lovely, the bathroom massive and everything tastefully done. We ate in the restaurant, last night and enjoyed everything. Lovely local beer and the food was fantastic. So well presented, generous portions, fantastic service, topped off with a special little cake/ candle and chocolate message, again acknowledging her Birthday. We also had breakfast today, again faultless. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

First time here. What a great location with fabulous views. Warm welcome. Friendly vibe with people from adjacent tables chatting on an autumnal Sunday morning. Eggs benedict was prefect. Photo shows the poached eggs after I broke them. Perfectly cooked. And there was just enough Hollandaise Sauce without drowning out the flavours. The eggs with bacon on crushed avo and sulsa was delicious. A bit too much salsa for my liking but wasn't my dish. The dessert French toast was great. Bread was thick. Moist and tasty. We stayed on our trip to Chatsworth House Estate. It’s only a short detour from Chatsworth House. The Sycamore Cottage is amazing. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was very modern and the cottage was very classy. Wi Fi with a strong signal right through the cottage. All the usual conveniences. The whole accommodation is immaculately clean. Central heating made the cottage a very comfortable place to stay. We had dinner at the Peacock at Barlow. The food was brilliant. Good selection on the menu and the quality of the food was fantastic. The meals were served pretty quickly as well. We had the rib eye steak and the pork belly and it was delicious. They also have their own brewery and had three local pump ales available. Collyfobble Brewery. Give the IPA a go. A full English breakfast was included with the accommodation cost. That was a great meal. The pub terrace has charming views across green fields and some stone cottages. Really feels like you’ve escaped. The only thing better than the food and accommodation is the customer service. All of the staff were so friendly, helpful and nothing was a problem. We've been visiting The Peacock since it first opened, which must be near to 10 years ago. The food was always fantastic, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. We often pop in for a drink, we really like the atmosphere in all seasons! It's also lovely to sit outside in the summer. BUT....We visited on Saturday night for food & noticed that the prices were averaging around £18 - £21 per dish. Some dishes more expensive, particularly on the specials menu. I ordered the Peacock Fully Loaded Burger (priced at £19.95), I was so hungry and expecting a decent sized burger that'd be too big to manage....how wrong was I. It was tiny. I'm pretty sure a Big Mac is bigger 🙈 The patties were dry and crumbly, cooked to 'very well-done' 🙃 The side salad was just a few leaves & the fries were few. The other dishes that the table had were - bangers and mash, curry and chicken souvlaki. Again, all quite small portions. We understand that the hospitality industry has taken a huge hit & the cost of produce and wages etc has risen, however the quantity and quality of the food does not align with the prices that are now charged. I cannot complain about the staff, most of them are pretty young, but they're attentive and polite. The pub is a lovely place, with a lovely atmosphere. However, I think we'll be giving it a miss for now, considering that the local area has other lovely pubs and restaurants that are more wallet friendly.

We often go the the pub quiz on Thursday nights. Excellent atmosphere, great food and lovely staff. Had a very uncomfortable experience a few weeks ago when a family became verbally abusive towards us when we asked them not to research questions on their phones. They said they were emailing, but many witnesses, including staff, observed them googling answers to the quiz sheet questions. I am so grateful for the staff for looking after us after the barage of abuse we received. We felt physically unsafe until the staff stepped in and the manager dealt with the abusive family. This was such a deviation from what is usually such a fun and fair night. Thank you everyone at the Peacock at Barlow and thank you David Box for such an entertaining quiz!

Have been to the Peacock a number of times over the past few years. The dining area is lovely with great views and the service is good. However friends and family have been aware of the prices creeping up and today we all felt the prices were over the top eg. £20 for cottage pie?! It is no wonder that the restaurant was quieter than we have ever seen it. There are a number of very good eating places in the area who charge significantly less.

Have been here many times and really enjoyed it until today. I was there with my puppy meeting a friend and was told by a member of staff to not have her on my knee as all dogs have to be on the floor. I don’t think I would’ve minded but I was there yesterday and no one said anything! She only said it due to a table next to us complaining about it to her however, members of staff were repeatedly passing by our table and she decided to say something when we’d finished our food and she had been on my knee the whole time we were there so, how come she didn’t mention it when we first arrived? She said it’s “the owner’s policies”. If you have set policies in place please make sure all members of staff are aware of it, as I know that one of the members of staff that was serving my table yesterday was a member of management. It’s not a big deal however, it was enough to have put me off from returning again.

Went to the Thursday night pub quiz and was only there 10 mins before the locals accused me of cheating even through the quiz hadn’t started at that point. I was only checking an urgent email! Lots of abuse followed and then we were asked to leave by the manager who didn’t even bother to listen to 2 sides to a story. He clearly needs to go on a management course. I think 1 star is too generous I would not recommend to anyone unless you got in with the “in crowd”

Went for a meal. The food was overpriced but very tasty. They got the changes to our order correct. The problem was the length of the wait. It took nearly 40 minutes to get our food. For me that is too long.

Faultless service, delicious food, professional and friendly staff! The rooms are exceptionally well designed with such attention to detail that many much more expensive hotels could learn a few lessons from this inn. We had a wonderful stay and will be returning!

We stayed here for the weekend and were both very impressed by our experience. All the staff were helpful, professional, polite and friendly. There was an impressive choice of food and drinks. Everything we had to eat and drink over the weekend was fantastic, the food was all cooked to perfection and well presented. The room we stayed in was beautiful and one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. The whole place was immaculately clean. We cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience thank you

I’ve been here in the past, although not for a couple of years, and suggested it to my friend as somewhere to celebrate her birthday. The food, fish pie and crème brûlée for both of us, was absolutely superb and I was left feeling cross that I’d not eaten here for some time! There was a wonderful atmosphere, particularly considering that we were there at lunchtime and not in the evening when places are often livelier. Reservations aren’t possible but the pub is fairly large and it seems that would-be diners can usually get a table without too much difficulty; we certainly had no problem at peak time on a Friday. The location is beautiful too, especially when the weather is kind and you can make the most of the stunning views. With such a high standard of food and service, coupled with a buzzing atmosphere, this place is highly recommended.

Had evening meal, stayed over night and had breakfast for my birthday. What a wonderful stay I had. Meal with a group of friends and I decided to treat myself to an overnight stay too. The Bodecia room is amazing. So warm and inviting. I love the hanging space and the umbrella stand. (They were too big to get in my car 😂) We had a group meal and all my very choosey friends enjoyed their evening meals. I had breakfast and the yoghurt sundae didn't disappoint. My self and now a fair number of friends will be saying with you again. Well done to everyone at The Peacock.

I stayed for a work trip and found all the facilities to be very good. Rooms kept super clean and liked the spcial touch of having a scone left in the room for me. Views from the bathroom were idyllic - shame I didn't have more time to explore the amazing countryside which was so accessible. The rooms were very modern looking in appearance, which all added to a "highly recommended" experience. Foodwise, I only had breakfast which was excellent, but we sat in the bar the night before and saw some fantastic looking plates coming out.

Went for a meal. We've eaten here many times and have always enjoyed everything as its s lovely place with great staff, good food, alfresco seating with a stunning view. We were very surprised that the chicken dinner was approximately £20, which is quite over priced in our opinion and on top of that it was an extra pound for a yorkie pudding! All the menu prices are high. It's the first time we've been where the restaurant was virtually empty at teatime, perhaps this reflects the increased prices?
