Fantastic venue....food as always .... amazing. Great atmosphere with visitors talking to each other and sharing thoughts on the food. Good selection of wine. Obviously some new staff....so service good but not tip top. Meals arrived separately rather than together and one meal was totally wrong meaning I had to wait and others were half finished before it arrived. But tone honest it was still so good that we went back for brunch the next day.

We visited last night , weve had lovely meals previously here and last night was no exception. The stone baked garlic bread is fabulous , and my Partner had the prawn and chorizo skewer , also very nice . For mains , I had the scallop and prawn ravioli, excellent flavours , my only comment would be slightly too much oil for me , but thats a personal opinion . My partner had fillet steak that was excellent .👍. It was just a lovely , enjoyable evening , with a nice atmosphere in the pub , Also , lastly , but not least , a fabulous, attentive waitress ❤️. Thank you for a much needed Friday Date Night 🥰

The service was very good, very little atmosphere, felt we were pushed in a corner out of the way. Ordered a goats cheese and carolomised onion pizza. The pizza base was over cooked and burnt on the bottom and so hard l couldn't cut through it. The staff did offer to replace it or take it off the bill. Mix up with the coffees. The other parties meals were nice, nothing special. Not be in a rush to go back.

Ample parking nice interior. We had a mixture of meals Sunday lunch the veg was hard beef was tough no mash bit cheeky to charge as a side dish! Steak ok except for the very large amount of fat around one side of it.Chicken and avocado salad was ok chicken very salty avocado was what looked like off. We asked why it was that colour when the manager very sternly told us that chef says it’s the dressing that’s sent it that colour and that he’s the chef ,amazing how some was bright green and some was almost black! The manager never even had the decensecy to say sorry or goodbye, he was an arrogant and intimidating man who only cared about the tills ringing. As this was our first visit it will most definitely be our last, wish we’d gone to the Sitwell Arms instead.Oh and by the way one of us has spent time as a chef!!!!

I used to go to the college right beside this pub (Mount St Mary's). During the time we were there, we were given the privilege of being allowed to go to this pub for food and drink during our school hours. Each time we went, we made an experience thanks to our incredible sense of humour ( ´ー`). However, the experiences we had were brought to life because of the food we received, the amazing staff involved, and the overall positive atmosphere. I would encourage all who read this to visit, and I would highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding. For all the fun times we had here, I hope that this review can give something back to the staff involved. It has been just over a year, but definitely not forgotten. Thanks to everyone at the Angel. I was a little surprised by the need to select meals for 10 in advance and to pay £10 a head deposit. On sitting down in the beautiful surroundings and experiencing the wonderful cuisine though, I understand why they can, and maybe must, operate in this way. The quality, presentation and taste of each and every dish was fantastic - All 10 of us felt it was one of the best meals out ever. The staff were most welcoming and helpful too. The venue catered well for children and a dog. We were impressed enough to collect take away pizzas a few days later which also proved to be a big hit. Wholeheartedly recommended

Let me start by saying the food and service was spot on especially the desserts Unfortunately we were seated in a large room upstairs which was occupied by a number of large family groups which consisted of quite a few children and babies need less to say the noise and activity levels were very high throughout our meal. Let’s just say it wasn’t the most relaxing dining out experience that we have ever had. I would go again but perhaps think more about the time I booked the table for.

We were a party of 10 on Mother’s Day later in the afternoon. We had pre-ordered our food to ensure what we wanted was available. Everything was delicious. The starters, mains and desserts. All piping hot and fresh. Plenty of well cooked potatoes and veg. Lots of lovely gravy including a scrumptious mushroom sauce for the vegetarian option (a very nice mushroom wellington). The restaurant was packed, but this had no negative effect on the quality of the food, service or wait time. My whole family were very happy. Recommended!

I say lunch, it was Sunday lunch. That said, the Sunday menu seemed appealing and my friend who is a veggie opted for the mushroom dish whilst I had the roast beef. Both dishes were great and the selection of veggies was plentiful (although we could have eaten more), we ordered a side order of the dauphinoise potatoes. Nice but a bit pricy. We enjoyed it very much and had no room for any dessert.

The meals were great, I had the fillet steak which was a beautiful piece of meat. I love that they don’t automatically add a service charge and allow you to judge to put a tip on. My only issue was that it took me to try three different beers before I found my taste!!

I booked a table there by telephone for 12pm last Friday to see my brother. When I arrived exactly on time it was not very busy (1/4 full) and I told the middle-aged woman behind the bar (wearing glasses, and looked quite scruffy actually) I had a booking for 12. She asked me in a hostile way "what sort of booking?". I replied, three times "for lunch, the name is O'Hara". To each utterance she just repeated "what sort of booking?". At this point, I was really exasperated, and stated "I am at a loss to understanding what you are asking me here: I have booked a table for lunch". She then said "Oh you mean you've made a booking? Well there isn't one here". In a classic passive-aggressive way she said something like "I suppose we have a table"--and then ushered me to a tiny table squeezed in the corner of an empty further room, whereby I had to move the table to squeeze and sit next to the chimney breast. I declined her grudging suggestion of a drinks order (with hemlock being the price it is) and immediately phoned my brother who had just arrived outside. We instead went to the nearby Sitwell Arms, where the food was decent and we were made very welcome. The most interesting aspect of the affair is that there was a male member of staff behind her in the bar area who not only witnessed at least some of the initial rudeness, but when alone behind the bar as we left made no reply or acknowledgement to my parting comment "you need to do something about that aggressive member of staff". Yet do you not think in any decent establishment he would have. I should point out that at no stage did I either swear or raise my voice. Evidently, they had not written the booking down--no worries, these things happen. But that rudeness I have rarely encountered. All is not lost however, two marketing opportunities suggest themselves: 1) one where you can get the Fawlty Towers experience of rudeness but without humour sadly 2) even better: should medical students and trainee psychiatric nurses want to witness a text book example of passive-aggressive behaviour, you couldn't do better. It is of course up to you whether you book: even if you do it will probably be denied...

Review based on a group of 20 having an early Sunday Xmas lunch. Normally you see plates of gorgeous food with no idea of how appetising it is, what better to see what was left of a turkey lunch with all the trimmings, that's right two Brussel sprouts, and they were the only disappointment, hard as bullets. The desert, bread and butter pudding was unconventionally presented but tasted superb, only let down by the canned custard. Overall good food in pleasant surrounding with good service.

We had a big family Christmas lunch on Saturday - 23 of us. I picked the Angel and Harlequin for its reviews, its vegetarian friendly menu and its location (giving us all equal travelling to do). I was blown away by the location and the lovely countryside surrounding the village. We all liked the place and the food and the beer! Even my sister-in-law, who was a catering professional, was complimentary about the food. We could choose from either the daily menu or the Christmas menu and it looked to me from the family’s responses (the silence that descended while everyone got stuck into the mains) that the options were equally good. The Welbeck Abbey pale ale on draught was very nice indeed. For a party it is advisable to book well ahead and you need to pay a deposit to secure the booking and order menu choices a week in advance. But that is fairly usual. The upstairs room was very comfortable - comfy sofas even - and had a very cosy atmosphere. Sometimes rooms for groups can be a bit functional but not this one. It has an aesthetic. Be aware there are steps and no lift but we had both elderly and disabled (not wheelchair bound though) members of our party and everyone coped. The steps are not many, not that steep and there is a sturdy handrail. We hung a round chatting after the meal and nobody came to chuck us out even though I know there were later bookings. All round the A and H ticked all the boxes and came up trumps. I felt I was taking a bit of risk picking a restaurant I had not personally visited for our family “do”. With so many people involved and it being a rare occasion for us all to get together I really didn’t want it to bomb! And it didn’t. It was throughly enjoyable.

We had intended trying the bistro for some time and finally decided the time was now. We had booked but on arrival it was quiet (but then it was a Tuesday). The service was helpful and friendly and our waitress kindly told us the pizzas were 2 for 1 on a Tuesday. Result. We ordered the pizzas with a side salad and side order of colslaw (little ramakin dish £1.50 additional charge - pretty steep no matter how good it was). The side salad was delicious and full of variety. The pizzas were excellent. Regarding the drinks, I would concur entirely with some of the other reviews about the expense. I just had a soda which I think they charged for lime and soda at around £1.30. My friend ordered I think half a larger shandy. A pint arrived and the bill showed larger £5, lemonade £1.70 so not sure what that was about. The desserts were reasonably priced and the coffee was nice but a bit pricy. The place is lovely and we would return with perhaps more of an eye on the drinks charges rather than the need to question the menu.

Main issue is overcharging for drinks. One Amstel lager shandy (pint) and one large glass of French sauvignon blanc - 8.50 gor the wine on their printed menu....initially charged £16.90!!!!!...then when queried charged £14:90.....STILL overcharged!. So £6.40 for half a lager with half a lemonade, when a pint of lager there is around £4 ??? Another member of our partu was charged £8:60 for two lager shandies, then the next time they went they tried to charge £9.80??? Same lager...same lemonade. Kid serving initially attempted to justify it by claiming that their register charged different prices for bottled lemonade and tap lemonade??? Kid quickly backed down when challenged again. Oh, and Toad in the Hole IS NOT a big Yorkshire Pudding with two sausages thrown inside. The sausages need to be cooked inside the Yorkshire Pudding batter......pure laziness on behalf of the Chef. I would not return simply because the staff are unable to charge consistent, accurate prices.
