Youngs Fish Bar in Basingstoke and Deane

This is worst Chinese I have had ,chicken balls were soft and gooey and csweet and sour was tasteless and meats have no taste so could be anything,I don’t normally do reviews but had to let everyone know how bad this is.

Always get lovely food from youngs, staff are lovely, talking to my children. Prices are fair. Would by far recommend. Old and goldie

I spent five minutes queuing to order. As I was giving my order to the woman at the counter, a woman walked in and stood beside me at the counter. The staff member immediately stopped serving me and started taking the woman's order instead. The staff then told me that I had to go to the back of the line as my transaction was now void. Of course, I did not do this and left. I will never go back. I am not sure why they did this and I can only speculate. However, since the staff addressed the woman by name when she queuejumped, I can only assume that the queuejumper is either friends with the staff or a regular. Sadly it sounds like this is something the staff in this establishment do on a regular basis.

10/10 wouldn’t go anywhere else. We always use this Chinese. Always great service & even better food!

Excellent service from all of the staff members and the food is very good quality and Excellent customer service you can order over the phone are just go there and get the food and all ways piping hot every time

Food is crap. Service not good. Customer services is poor. Avoid like a plague. Chips are like chewing a stick. BBQ ribs are like cooked from 2010. They reheated them over and over again.

Best chips in basingstoke, generous portions, always busy so plan that into the visit but there is a reason for that - the excellent food!

I have been going to Young's for the best part of 15 years and have never, once, had an issue. The food is always atleast 4/5 so I have no idea where these others people have been eating but they need to stop giving such a good business a bad name.

Very popular takeaway, always busy. We always phone Chinese order through to collect. Food always excellent.

Only went there once when I first moved to Basingstoke. Took my young son to get a takeaway. When we arrived there was no queue, just a few people dotted around waiting for their orders. We stood at the counter for a few minutes waiting to be served and were completely ignored by the staff! Eventually more customers came in and the scene became chaotic as everyone began jostling to get to the counter. The lady who was supposed to be serving finally began to pay attention and started taking orders from some of the regulars who she knew by name that had arrived after us! I tried to explain that we had been waiting for a good ten minutes by this point and she began shouting at me that I needed to join the back of the queue that by this time had swelled to about eight people. Needless to say that I stormed out without having even sampled the food. I'll never go there again!

I’m surprised by the bad experiences some have had. I’ve been going here for chinese and chips for years and i’ve never had a bad experience . The chicken balls are amazing, my son loves them. I love the prawn toast and the noodles. I’ve always felt the chips were very good and they are huge portions. Yes they don’t take cards but the cash machine is right outside so i dont see why thats an issue. Whenever i have preordered, the food has been ready when i arrived. The only downside, nothing to do with them, is the car park can be manic as its shared with Tesco.

We usually get a take away from Peters down the road, but the quality there has slipped recently, so we thought we would give Youngs a try again, after many years! Big mistake. Curry sauce here is vile, way too salty and no taste at all!! Beef in the chow mein was really chewy. Egg fried rice and chips were ok but not worth going back for. We will be giving this a miss for a long time now.

My second go to chinese takeaway. The way you guys cook the food especially the char sui pork is just wonderful. Thank you for so many good meals.

Don't go. It's disgusting tiny fish battered and fried and then refried children wouldn't eat it, their mum and partner one bite and it went in the bin, and mine the fish was horrible tasting had a few chips and the rest went in the bin. This is the worst fish and chips I have ever had and will never go back so please stay away other wise your regret it a total waste of potatoes, fish and money.

Over friendly staff member feeling a little fake. Had fish and chips. Good sized portion of chips. Very nice lunchtime takeaway meal. Can eat in and they do delivery as well.

Ordered a Chinese takeaway from Young's on Friday as my usual takeaway in old Basing was closed Despite pre-ordering they clearly didn't start cooking till I got there..... what was the point of pre-ordering! They only take cash which luckily I had enough on me, but could have been an issue. When I got all the way back home I found that they had not put any king prawns in one of the dishes and instead of a beef in another dish they had used Chicken. Trying to save money by shortchanging customers or just incompetent ?? All tasted quite bland and the special fried rice was lumpy Do yourself a favour and find another Chinese takeaway........ honestly. !!!!!!

Este es nuestro pescado predeterminado y chips. Hay uno más (el), sin embargo nos Trailerman prefiero este como hacen más grandes porciones y tenemos la opción de China si alguno de nosotros desea. Normalmente tenemos patatas fritas uno grande y dos de bacalao patatas fritas hay suficiente para los tres de nosotros en una gran porción. También nuestro hijo pequeño no podía comer mientras parte en su propio. Tener salsa dulce y agria y salsa de curry es también sabroso!

Popped in Saturday evening after a long day out, had to wait 10 minutes for fish and chips so thought being cooked to order, when I go home which is only a few minutes drive, the fish was dry batter was hard, and the chips cold, if I hadn't of been so tired I would have gone back, went in the bin waster on £11.50, I will not be using this place again.

This is our local Fish & Chips and Chinese takeaway. We've been going here for years. Always busy on Friday & Saturday evenings. We never had any problems with them. Very quick service & staff are very nice. Food is lovely. Only accepts cash though.

Stopped here on a Friday night. It seemed quite busy and we had to wait a short while but the food was nice and fresh. Staff quite friendly

Paramos en jóvenes los viernes para comer algo después de un día fuera, llegamos a la casa con salchichas y patatas fritas para ambos y un rollo de pancake para compartir. Las patatas fritas y salchichas tenía que tener unos minutos en el microondas, ya que estaban frías. Tomó un bocado de mi mitad del rollo de tortitas y inmediatamente lo escupí. Sabía absolutamente horrible, estaba frío, pasada y grasienta. Mi marido comió su mitad y pasamos el día siguiente en el cuarto de baño. Asqueroso

I was really impressed with the extremely efficient and friendly service on my most recent visit. The young woman behind the counter delivers truly outstanding service and is a shining example of a perfect employee, really friendly. This place is also very child friendly, as the other woman behind the counter was very friendly to my sister and gave her a free chocolate bar. All of the staff smiled. The food was good but not quite perfect, a few pork balls were of inferior quality but generally everyone enjoyed it. The menu is very vague in the description of some foods, perhaps this could be improved. Excellent value for the huge portions, but as stated in my last review a loyalty scheme for regulars would be better (just a simple stamp card with 25% off every fifth order or something along those lines). Seating wasn't provided, and they only take cash although there is a cash machine directly outside the shop so it's not really an issue. Overall, I'd certainly return, especially because of the outstanding service.

Excellent value, delicious cod and chips. Everyone enjoyed their food, although the chicken balls were apparently rubbery. A loyalty scheme of some description would be great. It was extremely busy leading to some waiting times, the staff member serving us was very friendly and the staff are well mannered. Some could smile a bit more, though. I would return, though, because it was very good overall.

We love this place. Whether it's fish and chips or Chinese, we're never disappointed. Great service as well. Definitely worth a try.

Really good Chinese food. Tasty and good portion sizes.Food is ready very quickly. If you ring up they usually say 15-20 minutes - and it's always been ready by the time I got there!No delivery option and they are cash only - but there is a cash machine at the Tesco next door.My new regular takeaway!

Have only had the Chinese side of this takeaway & on the whole it has been really nice. The chicken is sometimes a bit dry in the chow mein but the chips I have had are usually delicious. Staff are friendly & helpful

Hmmm... its a Chinese takeaway, ..I have been quite a few times, mostly ok..My latest experience was very good. (Noodles) they only take cash though, so I dare say the tax office only get the minimum. Sorry, I ment it's cheaper than having a card machine...

We started using this fish and chip shop, driving a couple of miles to get there, as a result of good reviews online. The first few times we visited, the food was excellent, with lovely white fish and great chips; I didn't mind the price (it's relatively expensive). However, there has been a distinct drop in quality more recent;y (over the past three or four months), with the food on the last visit (last night) being particularly bad. When I got home, the two pieces of cod we bought were very overcooked, dry and in pieces, and the chips were soggy and greasy. Also, and this may be a coincidence, but my wife was very ill during the night, and I have stomach cramps and diarrhoea today.Needless to say, we've decided that we won't be going back!

This is my favourite Chinese. What I have tried there has been really nice. Sweet and sour chicken ball are the beat I've tried. The staff our lovely. I recommend Young's to everyone

I visited Young's for a takeaway after having pleasant meals from there in the past.Unfortunately, the standard has dropped dramatically. My wife ordered (what was her favourite) BBQ spare ribs and chips, whilst i ordered jumbo battered sausage and chips.The spare ribs were laughable. Extremely overcooked whatever little meat was on them. my wife had one rib and decided that it was pointless to even try to eat the rest.My evening was then spent throwing up being sick from the sausage. It was either out of date or undercooked.Very disappointing as this place used to be very good. We will be ordering from another Chinese in future.If i could give this zero stars, i would.

I visited Youngs fish bar last month for a birthday meal and have had very positive experiences in the past.When you walk in, you should be served right away by a very friendly lady. Generally, the place looks pretty clean and tidy and they still have 4* hygiene. I would just recommend that some seating is provided while you wait for your order because it took them a while to package ours as we had a large order.The menu is very extensive and value is generally good although some dishes are more expensive then others. Do be aware however that card is not accepted here although they do have a cash machine outside. We received our food and left; they always check your order with you and I've never had any problems with inaccuracy.We got home and unwrapped the food - the portion sizes are generally large. The chips were unfortunately a ball of soggy mush. From what I gather, the Chinese dishes were all generally satisfactory however my rice had been very tightly packed into my container and so it was a bit squashed and mushy. The fish was also swimming in oil and grease.Overall, I feel that this is a generally good Chinese (see previous reviews) although they have let themselves down on this visit. If I am to return, I expect to see it back up to it's usual standard. I would recommend however I may try some other nearby Chinese takeaways to see how they compare.

Have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or size of the portions. Just wish they did a jumbo haddock

The location of this Chinese is ideal if you live near popley (opposite the mini Tesco). Sometimes you may find yourself struggling to find a car parking space but it is much quieter if you arrive at around 5 pm when they have just opened. Upon entering you will see a food hygiene certificate with the rating of 4 'good', looking at the date on the back of this it is the 8th of June 2015 meaning it has recently been updated.Service is fast and all staff are friendly. Inside the premises looks clean and well maintained. The cost isn't the cheapest however portion sizes are very large and I didn't even finish my meal, this makes up for it. The fish was very nice as was the rice, the batter was nice and crispy and the portion was huge.The food could be improved, the pork was quite fatty and the chips were quite soft and could be crispier.Overall, I feel that this is the best Chinese I have visited in Basingstoke and so I will be sure to return and recommend to all. The location, value, service and food are all good.

After going to Tangs a few months back we haven't eaten here at Youngs for a while now and too be honest there can be no comparison. Mixed meat curry is smaller,thinner, lack of texture and taste. Not a whinge as age it as I was hungry but won't be going back

What was good:*Chips were of better quality this time round.*Chicken is amazing!*Food hygiene rating is still '4'.*Rice was broadly average.*Friendly staff and quick service.*Very reasonable price but for the inconsistent food quality it is just above average.What was not good:*Pork is not of brilliant quality, inconsistently cooked and big fatty lumps.

A good takeaway with a current food hygiene rating of '4'. Nice food but sometimes varies in quality. Service mostly good with nearly all staff friendly enough. Convenient location.

Fish was lovely and fresh and batter nice and crispy, portions really good and price not bad at all. Good friendly service nothing was too much trouble.
