Terrible service went for birthday celebration all you can eat no milk for my tea waited 1/2 hr for milk tea got cold went to get some food and there wasn't no plates, when plates eventually arrived there was no food so had to wait again for some to be cooked, very limited choice . Desert consisted of some mixed fruit in syrup but only the juice left but plenty of ice cream. This meal costs 19 95 per person, the place was so disorganized I was very disappointed will never go again.

Just ok. Lots of mould around windows. Bit off putting. Selection of foods ok. Staff friendly. Toilet needs modernising.

Not very good. Chicken was very dry and stringy. Ice cream dessert was Iceland's own cheap ice cream. Won't be going back.

We went here last night 02/03 /2020 @ 17:45 just after opening, expecting nice fresh hot food. 4 of us eating. Greeted eventually, and shown to a table. The whole restaurant was extremely cold, with the doors open (unitl I shut the inner-set). Although the food tasted OK, apart from the mushrooms, everything else was cold (not even 'luke' warm). When asked for feedback by our server, we explained. He apologised and said he would relay back to the owners. We certainly will not be returning anytime soon

Visited on a Sunday afternoon about 3pm Most of the dishes were empty what was there looked like it had been there all day, dry or overcooked. Rice is now separate and under silver domes, dry cold. My partner and I sat down with our plate of food and looked at each other and decided It was just too awful to stay. Went to The Mayflower instead which was superb worth the extra money all fresh. Not sure what’s happened here, but won’t be back.

A different experience. This is definitely the strangest dining experience for us, thus far. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and the venue was relatively clean. However the food was very disappointing and there wasn't much choice either. The manager introduced himself and started with an apology about the birthday balloon and proceeded to mention the fried rice may be too dry, if it was let him know and he would change it instantly. He also mentioned if there was anything missing from the buffet or we wanted fresh let him know. Throughout the meal there was Jazz playing from a disco themed LED stand parallel to our table. Oddly the LEDs beamed and illuminated the area around us. Additionally there was a huge table of tat located opposite the toilets. Staff were eating behind the hot plate and also using a tooth pic whilst behind the bar but continued to work without washing hands. All this aside the manager was a legend singing my daughter happy birthday whilst playing a guitar and presenting her a heart shaped box. Followed by a final apology for not visiting our table again during our meal. Strange!

Had a meal here tonight. Well if you could call it a meal. Most things were hard. Over cooked. Saw at least 4 members of staff exit for a cigarette and then serve people without washing hands. The floor behind the bar was extremely dirty wet and totally unkept. Food had been sat for every long time, tasted like bland fatty lumps of fried rubber. Very poor very poor.

They accommodated us as a large group without booking which was good. Some of the food was cold even though it had just opened

Went last week,n sadly it has gone downhill about,the food was not very hot,they changed one of their sauces and it was awful,staff are lovely,they need to add alot more things in the evening,as the price is quite high,was told they would be adding a chocolate fountain bit sti not there

Loved the atmosphere for the special valentine's Day event. New owner is a really friendly enthusiastic guy. Great variety and quality of food.

Visited for first time in 6 months. No change to the menu, substantial price increase and the food was only warm at best. Doubtful we will ever go back with current management.

Now re-opened and under new management after a period of closure. Visited tonight for the first time since re-opening and what an improvment. Actual table cloths with linen napkins, complete re-decoration and new decor all around. And most importantly the food was back to it's best. After a period of steady decline and eventual closure last year, Dragon Palace is back!

From the moment we arrived, the whole atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect. They had put balloons and table confetti on our table for my mother in laws 70th birthday. When you phone and book, they ask If it’s for a special occasion so they can do this for you. Which is a really lovely touch. The food was outstanding as was the service the whole evening. The staff are so friendly & helpful. I can not recommend this place enough, also had complimentary shots. Which was an added bonus. Love the fact that they also had a singer too entertain you whilst your eating and if you feel really brave you can also get up and have a go yourself. Going back this weekend and cannot wait to have the lovely food again.

Great place for an all you can eat chinese buffet. Plenty of selection and all very good. We've been here a few times and have always been pleased with the food.

When we arrived we were greeted immediately and shown to a table. The food was superb and with lots of variety. I will definitely go again very soon.

We decided to try this place as we were meeting with friends and family. The place was reasonably quiet but it did get a bit busier later on. The place is quite big with a lot of tables. This is an 'all you can eat' buffet restaurant so there was a good choice of food to pick at the food counter. The food was good, the different styles of chicken pieces were juicy, the satay sauce was really good (one of the best I have had). There were ribs, soup, duck pancakes, a couple of noodle dishes, 3 different rices, some seafood, onion rings, prawn crackers, sweet and sour etc. There was some fritters and ice cream to choose from for pudding. If you're in the area this restaurant is good to eat at. The staff are friendly. Good location in the centre.

I went to Basingstoke to visit my friends on Sunday. Out of the 100 plus restaurants there, we’ve chosen this chinese restaurant, as lot of food variety and price is cheaper for a buffet style. Im a chinese, I really think the foods taste authentic and delicious, especially the sweet and sour pork ribs and tomyum soup. Yummylicious! Will definitely come back again.

Absolutely delighted to find this gem restaurant on Sunday, loved the tasty sticky BBQ ribs, authentic satay sauce, delicious thai Tom yum soup, wonderful ambiance and lovely setting. For the price we paid was totally worth it.

Since their refurbished and new staff from the Mayflower the improvements are great. Lovely crisp white tablecloths and linen serviettes. Improvements to the buffet food too. In an emergency ten days ago they agreed to sort out a range of dishes as a take away. They had planned to launch a take away service but at the time weren't doing them. So thanks again to helping us out... love them all.

We visited on Saturday evening for our annual Christmas get together with friends, the place was rather busy. We have been coming here for many years but this was the most enjoyable The tables was set up with table cloths and glasses, what was never done prior to the re opening The food was fresh and good selection and no waiting for the staff to refill the hot plates with food. Peking duck pancakes with all the trimmings There was live singer, disco, karaoke, that really set the evening up, the manager was coming around with free shots that was very kind. Christmas decorations all around Well done guys excellent evening, keep it up!

Attended their ladies night event tonight.. did not know what to expect but what a laugh. Had is a laughing, singing, dancing and taking parts . The food was awesome, and service fast and great, the management Hiro even dress the part to make it so much fun for us guests And Brian the other management staff was so welcoming too. And was great to come on and greeted with a glass of strawberry possesco on the house. Hiro and Brian totally revamped the old restaurant and gave it a new re branding and inject a whole load of fun to this restaurant, just as they did to the other restaurant Mayflower previously. I have no doubt wherver they go they bring great fun to diners due to their very positive outlook for restaurant with an edge.. and the edge being fun entertainment. Well done to you all. My mates and I, we had such a great time.

This was a really great meal, best treat was a guitar sound birthday tune for our daughter. They really looked after us well.

First visit since it reopened for evening meal with friends. I found the meat options quite oily and fatty. The special fried rice was good and spring rolls. Manager was attentive and brought us some shots as we were in festive attire. It wasn’t busy. There was entertainment a vocalist - good as well. Manager then did karaoke for those still there and more shots!!!

Well food was good except for all the rice was cold and I did tell the manager that could be a potential health hazard and he went to rectify it. On entering we asked the csost of buffet and were told it was £8.75 so we ordered our drinks and got our food the drinks took 15min to arrive due the shortage of glasses which were piled high on the bar.There was dirty laundry in the corner of the back entrance and food stacked up which had been delivered. I understand that a large party had just left. Anyway went to pay bill and they charged £13.75 per person i refused to pay that amount and the young lady who told us the original price said she made a mistake and this did get rectified. I just wish that they had more staff and perhaps a price list up so you can see the costs.

Went here last night for a get together with friends and had a great time, the service was excellent food was very tasty ,very welcoming staff .

Visited for lunch yesterday, have been coming here for many years and found it as been going down hill. I understand new managers have taken over running it but the owner is the same, seen many managers come and go over the years and no investment by the owner. on the good points - the decor has changed for the better, tables laid out very professional with table cloths etc. recorded music and live music in the evening. The food seems to be a little more fresher. Negitive points - the menu is the same, the same dishes that they have served for at least the past 3 years with no change. Continually running out of food, at one stage there was noting in the trays causing customers to wait around. Tables not being cleared due to lack of staff Overall - will give it a few months to see if improvement is continuing and keep a open mind over that time.However a lick of paint and table cloths,is one good step but unless the menus changes occasionally it not changed at all. Its all about the food, change the menu now and again to make it more interesting and the old regulars will come back and stay. But best of luck to the new managers, its just a pity a new owner wasnt found.

Refresh that hasn't worked, clean tables now adored with cloths but void of cutlery and view of the identification number. Plates not refreshed promptly. Food was much the same but waited in vain for some to be refilled (Muscles Mushrooms) and Ice cream selection reduced to vanilla only. They have added music but forgotten to sing in tune.

so happy to have a decent buffet style Chinese in Basingstoke. The decor and attention to detail has made so much difference compared to the old AM that used to occupy the building. The selection of food is good and there is plenty of variety of dishes. The staff come across as friendly, attentive and genuinely lovely. I would recommend and will be returning. My only very minor gripe is that I found it quite cold, but this could be because it had just opened and was empty when we arrived, I’m sure the temperature is fine when it’s busy!

Went for an informal dinner having heard that the dream team from the Mayflower has temporarily taken it over.

I went to the re-opening of this restaurant a couple of days ago. Firstly, the food is very good and will improve to an excellent standard under new management. The restaurant has been redecorated inside, has new table layout and now includes excellent entertainment on selected nights.

Is this place even open anymore ? It's been closed the last 2 weeks.

Food was really tasty the first time making it the highlight of the town but the second time the food was dissapointing. Chewy meat. The fact that it was so great the first time made it all the more dissappointing.

All you can eat decent food and friendly service whilst being affordable, what not see would you want.

A decent Chinese buffet but a little overpriced.

What a terrible experience!! We were a party of four who arrived about 12:30 for the lunch buffet. The food was mostly inedible. I decided to have the spring rolls and, what I thought was chicken? The spring rolls were greasy and unpleasant. The food was 'old' and on the main courses, I would say half were empty. I mentioned it and was told it was 'on order'. So, being hungry, I tried chicken, I think sweet and sour. It was chewy to say the least. One of the party had the curry with satay sauce which was so spicy she became red and was choking. She said the sauce had not been like this previously. The noodles were actually cold as were the pancakes and the aforementioned chicken was also cold. I will eat here again. I hope none of us gets sick.

Horrible food. Clearly stale food not fresh. Limited choices for a buffet. Most dishes were uncooked. Giving one star as unable to give zero. Don’t waste your money here.

Got to restaurant just after it opened today at 5.30 ish. The chips must have been yesterday's warmed up, satay chicken was tough and shredded duck had alot of fat/grissel. Far too expensive for what you get. £15 per adult and £7.50 for kids. Well over priced. The best was ice cream!!! Not recommended

I came here a couple of months ago and left a good review telling people to go come here and give it a chance . . . . Well, scrap that! We came here last night, there were only 2 other parties here so thought it would be ok. We were welcomed by a friendly gent who sent us through to find a table, he may have been the manager. A young lad took our drinks order, a small and a large soft drink both no ice . . . We received 2 smalls with ice, should have know from there it was not going to be a good experience. We went up to get a plate of food, 2 chewy veggie spring rolls on offer, prawn toast that had been sat there long enough to go brittle, cold chips and battered chicken that was extremely rubbery . . . We waited for fresh to come, and waited and waited . . . Gave up waiting so decided to try a mains instead, the rice had all stuck together in lumps and the curries didn’t even look fit for consumption, this is where we gave up and complained. Even another diner agreed with us when she overheard us talking to the staff. I remember the days when you struggled to get a table here and now it’s like a ghost town, maybe they should just call it a day.

I would be happy for the owner of dragon palace to contact me to explain why they feel that the food they put today (28-7-19) is fit for human consumption. Food was very dry, tasted of nothing and generally looked like it needed replacing several hours earlier. Complained to a member of staff who asked if I am veggie... no I just won’t eat the rubbish you want to serve. Seriously this was very disappointing- made even more disappointing that even tho the food was rubbish and I offered to pay for the 2 small drinks we were served that they charged for the large rather than the small. Seriously people of Basingstoke stay away from this place, it is an utter shambles.

This was our first visit and we loved everything about it. Good customer service, happy and friendly staff. Food was amazing and selection was varied which was good too. Prices were good for a buffet at 14.95 each and we will definately be going back again. Very recommended

We attended the Dragon Palace recently and I was told my 11 year old and 14 year old were to be charged as adults, it does say(in small print) a child is considered to be 1.4m and below but looking at average heights in the UK(attached) you would be lucky if your 10 year old makes it in to this ridiculous way of determining a child, this is blatant overcharging and I will not be returning, it’s not the about the money it’s the principal!

Went for lunch yesterday after many years. Given the place was not that full, all the dishes were present and hot and not badly presented. It's not gourmet by any means but it's not bad either - lots of rices, noodles, veggies and Indian and Chinese dishes, the "Crispy Duck" was actually Crispy Chicken but it had nice moist pancakes and fresh cucumber and spring onion. All in all it did the job and everyone found something they liked and ate a bit too much :-)

Reasonably priced, but the food isn't all that great. Theres a decent variety of meat dishes but not much to choose from as a vegetarian. Good for a bite to eat with friends but not somewhere for a romantic meal.

For 55 pounds for a party of 3 (1 soft drink each), this was one of the worst dining experiences ever. The food is disgusting fatty slop. I feel like I need a month of detox after eating here. Far too expensive for something so basic and terrible. The price for a buffet (near £14 on a weekday) is double what it should be. Advice: stay away from the Korma. It was like cold yellow paint.

I haven’t been here since it was AM, so for a change we decided to come for lunch, even after reading all the bad reviews that had been left. I work in a restaurant myself and know that people use this site as a complaining tool and very rarely take the time to say how good things are.

This is an all you can eat type of Chinese. The food isn't up to much and those dishes that others may like a little more seem to be emptied and not filled up on a regular basis. It's OK for a quick meal perhaps but not if you're looking for something special.

Great food on Sunday buffet, been here couple of times, food always good, plenty of choice, friendly staff, always a pleasure to come here and prices are reasonable as well

Food is horrendous... all you can eat ? Myself and my partner couldn't manage one plate, the staff were friendly enough however the place left us feeling dirty, tables were sticky walls damaged and dull lighting making it a very unfortable place to sit and eat, and to top it all off you could indulge in a dry stale prawn cracker that felt like eating a polystyrene cup from a burger van in a lay by. Terrible experience refused to pay £15 a head

Not as good as it used to be, quite a bit more expensive too. The amount of dishes available is pretty good, a nice mix of mainly chinese and some indian.

I knew this reastaurant since 2008, management changed several times and even the name but the food is still the same. Its not bad for a buffet restaurant even the service is good. The dessert section is also good their ice cream selection is delicious.

We went for my son's birthday last night only to find a note on the door saying shut on Monday's from now on. As you can imagine we were very upset especially as we'd only visited for Mother's day 2 weeks before & hadn't been warned this was happening. Luckily Tang, the Chinese restaurant opposite had a table & we had one of the best Chinese meals ever. The food was incredible with larger than average portions, the staff were amazing & it was only slightly more expensive. I don't think we'll be going to the Dragon Palace

Went there on a Wednesday evening was not busy at all , capable of seating large parties of people . Set price for meal, drinks extra. Drinks are ordered and brought to the table and then self service buffet . Noticed food was refreshed regularly and seemed fresh . Quite a lot of choice for starter and mains but limited choice for vegetarians .The spring rolls were hot fresh and tasty . Limited choice for dessert which was various ice creams jelly , cut up oranges and banana fritters which taste lovely with syrup but aren’t anything to look at .

We used to use this restaurant a lot. It is now poorly decorated dingy. The food has gone down hill. No longer value for money

The state of the toilets was disgusting! Wallpaper peeling off of walls, everything unkept! Barely any food, not being topped up and all the small amounts of food left were questionable. Not worth the money! Gross!

1st time here, staff had a moan because I took cutlery of another table as wasn't any in on ours. Food is nice but dry personally. Place is mouldy, all up the stairs to toilets is dirty, mould patches wall paper peeling off. Cracks in the walls, in loos some lights are held up by tape

Absolutely amazing all you can eat buffet - delicious, healthy, reasonably priced. They serve non alcoholic drinks and ice cream.

Great range of food, suiting all ages. Child friendly restaurant, the 'child' price is determined by the height, not age, which is a brilliant idea. Restaurant staff are polite and unobtrusive. Food is delicious. And the toilets are clean.

Food tastes off/stale, hygeine isn't amazing, overall quality of food is nothing worth travelling for.

Went in on a Saturday evening, expecting a good variety of food. What we found was not only a poor selection but the food available was dry, overcooked, the service area was filthy and it was a general shambles. Really disappointed.

This trip was terrible from start to finish! We weren’t shown to a table, the atmosphere was substantially more than lacking with no background music and not even a nice smile and greeting from the staff. The food was terrible. Firstly, their was no selection. The buffet had about 10 options. There was missing staple options like seaweed, dim sims etc. The presentation was horrendous, the food containers looked as if they needed a deep clean or even better replaced, the signage was outdated and barely readable in some cases! Secondly, their was very very limited options for people who didn’t want meat, I ended up with plain noodles, egg rice and a pancake. Thirdly, the food itself tastes horrendous, it was either covered in oil, over fried, soggy or in the case of the plain noodles tasted like it had been cooked in dirt water. Fourthly, the price is what shocked me and my partner the most! For 2 shocking dinners and 2 glasses of soft drink it cost £35! What an absolute joke. Upon complaint and telling them honestly what we thought, they didn’t seem to care and didn’t reply, just continued to take our money without a thank you or a sorry. Very rude staff, disgusting food and shocking venue. I highly discourage anyone from spending their money here. Go to McDonalds, at least your more likely to get good service.

I eat here quite regularly as the food is reasonably priced and tasty and it's a nice place for a catch up with friends. Was disappointed to find the place closed last night but no signs up to say why so we went somewhere else. Food is nice for the price you pay but the drinks are expensive. Staff are very friendly and very quick to clear empty plates . The only negative I would say is that the food can sometimes be a bit slow to be replenished and if it's busy and lots of people are waiting for the same dish it can be a bit of a bunch fight to get there before it runs out again. I have been disappointed a few times by this but on the whole a good cheap night out.

Sadly the last couple of visits have been disappointing. Visited last week as a table of four and whilst service was good and polite, (bearing in mind this is a buffet you get yourself from the hot counter). the food was at best "adequate". Two soups on, both very very thin and like dishwater so skipped on these after a quite taste of one. Limited starters and main courses but the duck was OK.It was an early evening over a weekend so would have expected more choice and less overcooked dishes. Satay sauce was thin and pancakes almost transparent so needed two to keep the food together. It's as if they are trying to make food go twice as far. Don't know what we paid as wife settle bill but please staff/owners, make a bit of an effort and you might get more people in. Also, if food is being returned, it may not be due to people being greedy, just a fact that it doesn't taste good or has been over cooked.

Since new management the food is poor. Otherwise it use to be my favourite place to eat out.

Used to go here a lot and spend a lot of dough, but prices have gone silly and quality has diminished. Over 60 quid for 3 on a weekend. All a bit silly. Service is still okay though, but will not return unless they get realistic with prices.

I called in here on a Friday lunch time for the buffet. The choice of dishes was sadly very limited - almost all chicken with one beef main course, and a third of available dishes taken up by "Indian" curries (Basinsgtoke has enough Indian restaurants, I wanted an oriental buffet). The food was luke warm, but the staff friendly enough. I cant help but feel perhaps I should have gone to Poppins instead and had a fry-up.
